A Trip With The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour

Image
It's been some time since part three of 'a trip with the Beatles', for which I apologise, and no, I have not yet edited the 'Get Back sessions' to share, I feel another apology coming on. So this is part four, and I make no apologies for this! A twenty three track album, the copy I have obtained goes under the name of 'Magical Mystery Tour Outtakes', it is however far more than that. Lets go interactive for a moment. If you have the time, read the Wikipedia entry for the Magical Mystery Tour (click HERE ). It's easy to forget the 'TV' film version bombed originally outside the UK. and was panned by the critics of that time. It's a reflection on my personality I guess, that I loved it, it is however the music that in typical Beatles style has demonstrated longevity. I think it reasonable to say that against the Wikipedia background, this series of recordings are an absolute must for all Beatles fans, and curious parties. The album is as follo

Manfred Mann's Earthband - Philadelphia 1976

Image
This is one of those moments in time. When a band introduces a 'new song', as they did during this performance, one that all these years later we know to be, a 'classic' of theirs, you can begin to plot that occasion with greater clarity. Manfred Mann's Earth Band have never been superstars. I think it fair to say that was never the intended goal, indeed the choice was taken to move away from 'three minute pop songs' and chart hits, and explore more creative ideas. By the time of the 'Roaring Silence Tour' they were however well established, but they did not fit that comfortably into any particular rock niche. A bit Prog, a bit rock blues, sometimes just Manfred Mann, growing a little older. This is a recording of them at the Spectrum, Philadelphia USA, on the 15th October 1976. They were, and indeed remain a recording band, one of those acts who seem to embrace a lot of contemporary artists, and not detract from the original idea. They were pretty g

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Hamburg - 2006

Image
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers playing Fliegende Bauten , Hamburg, Germany on the 24 th April 2006. I am not a massive fan of the band, however I sense on this occasion as far as popular opinion goes, I may be swimming against the tide, with lead weights attached to my arms and legs. That said having listened to this concert, I would not turn down a ticket or two, to see them live. The sound quality is excellent ( pre FM - stereo soundboard), almost too good at the start when they seem to be a little slow getting going (or is that just my ignorance). 01 - Can't Stop 02 - Charlie 03 - Tell Me Baby 04 - The Needle And The Damage Done 05 - Me And My Friends 06 - Dani California 07 - 21St Century 08 - Don't Forget Me 09 - How Deep Is Your Love 10 - She's Only 18 11 - Right On Time 12 - Californication 13 - By The Way ( Apologies this fades out early) I reckon a lot of people are going to enjoy this. Billy Idol - Poplar Creek - 1984

Image
Time to up the energy levels! This is Billy Idol recorded live at the Poplar Creek Theatre, Hoffman Estates, Illinois, USA, on June 1st 1984. Poplar Creek was an outdoor concert venue located in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The property consisted of 200 acres at the intersection of Higgins Road and Route 59. When it opened in June 1980, the surrounding neighborhoods weren't exactly thrilled. To appease them, the inaugural concert featured a very non-threatening John Denver. By 1984 they may have got use to the venue being there. That said the whole place closed ten years later, maybe it took them that long to get over the 'rebel yell !' This is Billy Idol recorded for a syndicated radio series at that time, so apologies for the appalling and 'quite cheesy' intro and the end 'really hip' DJ comments. That said the actual concert is pretty nifty to say the least, and the sound quality is high standard FM stereo. Reloaded 23/02/2016 link in com

The ORB - Glasgow 1997

Image
Just another one of those posts, to remind you another decade of your life has slipped by unnoticed. This is The ORB live at The Barrowlands, Glasgow, Scotland on the 20th March 1997. This is a high quality recording (BBC FM stereo) For more details of releases & tour details click HERE . Also some remastered ORB options HERE . So Much New Music - If Only I Could Catch Up With The Back Catalogue!

Image
Whats new or current in the Beehive? Lets start with The Polyphonic Spree , who released their third album 'The Fragile Army' this summer. On this album they take their unique 'spaced out choral pop' a little towards the dark side. I think they are probably a love or hate group. I like them (to be awkward). Links Removed - MP3 Policy. The Polyphonic Spree - (The Fragile Army - 02) - Running Away.mp3 The Polyphonic Spree - We Crawl.mp3 The Polyphonic Spree - The Fragile Army.mp3 Now a band I am really keen to promote (you know you can still buy music & help new artists ?). Bodies Of Water remind me a little of the aforementioned, add a touch of Beach Boys harmonies, and something a little maverick, and you are almost there. All of which probably does not help - elsewhere they have been described as gospel pop, so here's a few songs to clarify. Bodies o fWater - Doves Circle the Sky.mp3 Bodies Of Water - Our Friends Appear Like The Dawn.mp3 Bodies of Water - I Gu

Marvin Gaye - Budokan - 1979

Image
Yet another little treasure. This is Marvin Gaye live at Budokan Hall, Tokyo, Japan, way back on November 13th 1979. The man made great music throughout his career, and is synonymous with Tamla Motown. As is widely known he also had something of a troubled life at times, and when this concert took place he was not far from rock bottom with both tax debt and drug problems. However a true performer, he sounds great, and with a backing band that has real power & edge, this was a great show. Set List: Got to Give It Up When I First Saw You What's Going On Who Is To Blame Inner City Blues Funky Space Reincarnation How Sweet It Is Band Intro/Trouble Man Ain't That Peculiar Yeah Yeah Yeah/Pride and Joy Pride and Joy Darlin' I Love You Heard It Through the Grapevine Going To Chicago Need You Baby Too Busy Thinking About My Baby Distant Lover He does say thank you & goodnight at the end of the show, however it is missing from this copy. Johnny Cash - New York - 1996

Image
This is Johnny Cash live playing at the Irving Plaza, New York City, on the 07.09.1996. In 1996, Cash released a sequel to American Recordings (1994), entitled Unchained, and enlisted the accompaniment of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, which won a Grammy for Best Country Album. This live performance does justice to the exceptional studio work he produced around that time & thereafter. Sadly in 1997 the on set of serious illnesses, greatly reduced his live appearances. Set list: Folsom Prison Blues Get Rhythm Sunday Morning Coming Ghost Riders in the Sky Oh Bury Me Not Never Picked Cotton Rowboat (Beck) Rusty Cage (Soundgarden) Southern Accent (T.Petty) Memories... Ring of Fire Walk the Line I got Jesus in my Soul Big River I Still Miss Someone Orange Blossom Special Far Side Banks of Jordan This is a superb recording of the show (stereo soundboard). The Runaways - Cleveland - 1976

Image
Here are The Runaways, recorded live on the 19th July 1976, at The Agora, Cleveland, USA. Why have there never been more all girl rock'n'roll bands? I guess by virtue of when The Runaways formed, and their style of music, they are often linked with the new wave / punk scene, whatever category you feel obliged to stick then in, they play a pretty nifty show! Song list is: 01 - California Paradise. 02 - Cherry Bomb. 03 - Take It Or Leave It. 04 - Secrets. 05 - You Drive Me Wild. 06 - C'Mon. 07 - Blackmail. 08 - Wild Thing. 09 - Don't Use Me. 10 - Rock And Roll. 11 - Is It Day Or Night. 12 - Johnny Guitar. 13 - Dead End Justice. CLICK ON COMMENTS BELOW FOR NEW FULL CONCERT LINK. Sound quality is excellent, I'm guessing probably from an FM broadcast, anyway enjoy. Purchase The Runaways first album HERE .

The Doors - Stockholm 1968

This is a copy of the second show, the Doors under took at the Konserthuset, Stockholm, on the 20th September 1968. Jim Morrison is in feisty form, the audience clearly enjoying the concert. Songs performed are: 1. Five To One 2. Alabama Song 3. Back Door Man 4. You're Lost Little Girl 5. Love Me Two Times 6. When The Musics Over 7. Wild Child 8. Money 9. Wake Up 10. Light My Fire 11. Pink Floyd - Psychedelic Sound Check - 1994

Image
In my little world, a small claim to fame is having been in the audience with my eldest daughter, at Earls Court, London, when Pink Floyd recorded the Pulse DVD. Like I say my little world. Turning the sad level up to eleven, I still have a guitar plectrum used in the show, and given to me after, in my possession. Did I mention little world? The 1994 tour promoting the Division Bell album was no little thing! In my opinion it was a fantastic tour, a spectacle definitely, the musicianship well crafted, and the gig I attended, plus the footage, and recordings of others I have heard, suggest the tour as a whole, was really appreciated by the fans. Oh, I know there are those who say it stopped being Pink Floyd when Roger Waters departed, or even when Syd Barrett was dropped, and those who hark back to the golden years, whenever they were. However do you know what? I really don't care. There are more important things in life than becoming retentive over music... So to the purp

The Who - Tommy Tour - Amsterdam 1969

Image
This one is special. The Who toured their then new album Tommy in the autumn of 1969, through to 1970, with gigs across the USA, and then on to the UK. They started out in Europe, and this was the starting point. Playing Amsterdam on the 29th September 1969, they featured some of their then best live material, and the whole of Tommy. Pete Townsend seemed in a good mood, chatting to the audience a little, the whole performance was outstanding. This was the original line up enjoying themselves: Roger Daltrey - Vocals Pete Townsend - Guitar & vocals John Entwistle - Bass Guitar Keith Moon - Guitar & vocals I have used the cover of an early CD boot (silver disc) as the picture (click on to enlarge), however the recording I have uploaded is from another source. REPLACEMENT DOWNLOAD LINKS IN COMMENTS BELOW (17TH OCTOBER 2009). The music source is stereo soundboard, professionally recorded and cared for since 1969. Spooky Tooth - Grugahalle, Essen 1969

Image
Originally there was 'The Art', led by Mike Harrison on vocals and Luther Grosvenor on guitar. They then met American keyboardist Gary Wright and changed name to Spooky Tooth. They first recorded It's All About (Island, 1968). For those who look for the roots of progressive rock, and the harder edged likes of Led Zeppelin, your starting place could well be Spooky Tooth. Spooky Two (1969) delivered a mixture of heavy blues with guitar and organ both to the fore, and some more AOR sounding material. Both albums are worth checking out, or one of the 'best of' collections. This is a recording of the band live in 1969 at Grugahalle, Essen, Germany. Set List: 01 - Something To Say 02 - I Am The Walrus 03 - The Wrong Time 04 - I Wanna Be Free 05 - Son Of Your Father 06 - Better By You, Better Than Me 07 - Alone 08 - Soulful Lady When it comes to Beatles covers, I would personally say that their version of 'I Am The Walrus' is outstanding, the studio version is a m

David Bowie - Montreal Canada - 1983

Image
David Bowie played the Montreal Forum, Montreal, Quebec, on the 07/12/1983, part of the Serious Moonlight world tour. Described as the early and late shows, this was in fact one performance with a twenty minute intermission in the middle. Band line up: David Bowie - vocals, guitar David LeBott - keyboards Lenny Pickett - saxophone Stan Harrison - baritone sax Steve Elson - tenor sax Carlos Alomar - guitar Earl Slick - lead guitar Carmen Rojas - bass Tony Thompson - drums Joyce and Kevin Simms - backing vocals This was a much recovered David Bowie, with Berlin and his well known cocaine problems behind him, and a superb band supporting him. The tour was a mix of the more commercial 'Berlin era' music, some of his greatest hits, and the then current, Nile Rodgers produced Lets Dance album. The early show on this occasion consisted of: Look Back In Anger 3:17 Breaking Glass 2:56 Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) 3:32 Rebel Rebel 2:27 Heroes 5:05 What I

David Bowie - Diamond Dogs Tour - Live 1974

Image
This particular bootleg is known as - David Bowie - Strange Fascination 74. This is one of the few high quality recordings of the Diamond Dogs Tour of 1974. This one was recorded at The Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on the 5th of September 1974. Not much in the way of information for this gig, I am guessing it was an FM broadcast, very listenable throughout. Sinead O'Conner - Live Vredenburg - Utrecht - Holland

Image
This is Sinéad O'Connor Live in concert at Vredenburg, Utrecht, in the Netherlands. The concert took place on March 16, 1988, and was also broadcast on FM. Sound quality is excellent, as was the performance, it's a must have for any Sinead fan. Her first album The Lion and the Cobra was "a sensation" when it was released in 1987 and it reached gold record status and earned a Best Female Rock Vocal Performance Grammy nomination. The single "Mandinka" was a big college radio hit in the United States, and "I Want Your (Hands on Me)" received both college and urban play in a remixed form that featured rapper MC Lyte. In her first US network television appearance, O'Connor sang "Mandinka" on Late Night with David Letterman in 1988. The single "Troy" was also released as a single in the UK and Ireland. The Doors - Live - Isle Of Wight - 1970

Image
Known as 'Palace Of Exile' this bootleg is in a class of it's own. The Doors played not long after midnight, whoever took the time to record this to such a high standard, and those who have ensured that the quality of the recording has remained until today deserve some thanks to say the least. Considering this boot was recorded thirty seven years ago, it remains a fine quality recording, and really does justice to the highlight of that years Isle of Wight festival. The art work in the picture contains front and back CD covers. I am not sure of the origins of these, and if they have any resemblance to the early vinyl boots in circulation, however Jim Morrison was certainly sporting the beard etc, at that time. The gig was recorded live at the 3rd Isle Of Wight Festival at Afton Farm, Freshwater. Commencing at 12:05 am on Sunday, 31st August, 1970. This is a soundboard recording. Set List: 1 Back Door Man 4:38 2 Break On Through 4:50 3 When The Music's

Jeff Buckley - Liquid Room Tokyo 1995

Image
This is Jeff Buckley live in japan in 1995. The audio quality on this concert is superb for an audience recording. The concert took place on January 30th 1995, and as far as I know was just one of two gigs he undertook in Japan. The full concert listing is as follows: 1. Dream Brother 2. Grace 3. So Real 4. Last Goodbye 5. What Will You Say 6. Lilac Wine 7. Mojo Pin 8. Eternal Life 9. Improvisation / Lover, You Should've Come Over (10. Vancouver) (11. Kanga-roo) 12. Hallelujah / I Know It's Over (Smiths cover). I am afraid that my copy of the gig does not include Vancouver and Kanga-roo. This was a wonderful concert. My life flies by. It is now over ten years since the tragic loss of Jeff Buckley, I still often wonder what may have followed if only... This is the last full concert bootleg of Jeff Buckley for a while on Beehive Candy, however more are planned to follow. I am in the process of going through 'one offs', studio rarities and so forth, and as time permi

What Will You Say 6. Mojo Pin 7. Eternal Life 8. Kick Out The Jams 9. Grace.
