Cactus - Buffalo NY 1971

Image
This is Cactus live at Gilligans, Buffalo, New York back on the 26th June 1971. A limited edition 2CD including this gig was also officially released on Rhino Records in 2004 (5000 numbered copies only worldwide) the latter half of the second CD included other live material. This is just the Gilligans gig from a bootleg copy which has been in circulation for a long time. This was the last performance from the original Cactus line up. A good number of music fans were introduced to the band through the 1972 sampler album 'The New Age Of Atlantic' which included the studio version of Long Tall Sally, which took the song from it's Rock'n'Roll roots to a much heavier rock anthem sound. 2010FM - May Edition One

Image
Welcome to a slightly late edition one of 2010FM for May, and we are gonna tear through this one and as always in no particular order so hang on tight.. Portland's Spirituals are set to release their debut record with Waaga Records on June 22nd. Spirituals is the moniker for the sample-based electronic music endeavor of drummer, producer, and graphic artist Tyler Tadlock. In his hometown of Jackson, Mississippi, Tyler began experimenting with samples from local free jazz projects and sounds recorded with his laptop to form rhythm driven compositions. After relocating to Portland, OR, he began work on his first album, drawing on a wealth of samples, meticulously chopped and arranged to form electronic music which pays homage his jazz roots. Featured Track: Wanderings. Website: MySpace . ______________________________ Next up we feature a song from the soon to be released new album, Hay, Hay, Make A Wish and Turn Away from Portland, Oregon folk-pop five-piece Norman .

Joni Mitchell and James Taylor - London 1970.

Image
This is Joni Mitchell and James Taylor in concert at the Royal Albert Hall, London back on the 28th October 1970. The performance was some two weeks after their collective appearance at the Amchitka Concert on October 16th 1970 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, which was a fund raising concert for what would eventually become GreenPeace. This is a high quality recording and reflects two people who are clearly enjoying themselves. The concert was originally broadcast on BBC Radio and is introduced by then BBC DJ John Peel, the concert was also broadcast on WNEW in New York Source: FM broadcast, soundboard. The Rolling Stones - Camden Theatre 1964

Image
Having recently covered The Rolling Stones BBC sessions from 1963 to 1965, this is another incredible recording from the same era. Recorded live at The Camden Theatre, London, England, on March 19th 1964 and subsequently broadcast on May 9th 1964 on The BBC "Rhythm And Blues" show, bootleg label The Swinging Pig eventually released a CD single (TSP-CDS-004) which from what I can gather was sourced from a soundboard tape rather than any BBC transcription disc recording. Source: Soundboard. Sound Quality: Excellent stereo mp3@320kbps. Genre: Rock, rock and roll, blues-rock, rhythm and blues, blues. Set: Full 'Rhythm And Blues' show set. Set List: 01. Iris DeMent - Byron Bay Australia 1998

Image
This is Iris DeMent at the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival, Red Devil Park, Byron Bay, NSW, Australia back on April 10th 1998. The performance was subsequently broadcast on national radio on June 14th 1998. Iris DeMent's songs are typically simple, clearly told stories about life's pains and joys. She at times sounds a little like Dolly Parton and occasionally like Emmylou Harris. The songs are superb and in this performance she uses just guitar and piano, which makes for an intimate personal feel. This is the sort of country music I can enjoy, clear of stereotypical songs and falseness, rather just plain simple heartfelt songs stripped back and very roots orientated. Source: FM Broadcast Sound Quality: Very good stereo mp3@192kbps. Genre: Country, Folk. Set: Full Set. Set List: 01 Introduction 02 Let The Mystery Be 03 Easy's Getting Harder Every Day 04 When My Morning Comes Around 05 I'll Take My Sorrow Straight 0

2010FM - April Edition Three.

Image
With the third April edition of 2010FM we start with a band to watch out for this year, namely Elogy . The California based band are set to release its debut album 'One' on July 6th, 2010. With sweeping melodies, well thought out synth lines, and driving vocals, Elogy has recorded an album that is distinctly new, but that still evokes contemporaries like Coldplay, Muse, or Thirty Seconds To Mars. Based in Orange County, California, the members of Elogy came together four years ago under the leadership of Derek Cannavo. Transforming an old warehouse space into a fully functional, state of the art studio, Elogy began to develop their sound and their organization from scratch. Using their classical training as a foundation, the band quickly amassed a large catalogue of songs, and as they brought their music to a live setting, their sound began to evolve as well. The featured track certainy evokes thoughts of Coldplay in terms of vocals however the musical style is different and c

Leo Sayer - Boston USA 1975

Image
This is singer songwriter Leo Sayer live at Pauls Mall in Boston on March 9th 1975. Leo's debut album 'Silverbird' was released in 1973 and was one of my favorite albums from that year, indeed I still give it a listen from time to time. Four songs from the album are performed within this concert. By the time of this concert Leo had enjoyed a number of hits and had gained a good following both in the UK and the USA. For me personally his musical direction after Silverbird was a little to 'single hits' orientated, however his positive and upbeat style gives all his songs a lift when performed live, and after all who can blame him from exploiting his chart success. Source: FM Braodcast Sound Quality: Very good stereo mp3@192kbps. Genre: Pop, Pop Rock. Set: Full Set. Set List: 01 - Giving It All Away 02 - Oh Wot A Life 03 - Tomorrow 04 - The Bells Of St.Marys 05 - Train 06 - In My Life 07 - One Man Band 08 - Telepath 09 - Another Time

2010FM - April Edition Two.

Image
As was the case with the first April 2010FM edition all the featured songs are at the bottom of this edition in one playlist.  I have already given some attention to Alcoholic Faith Mission this year, however with the forthcoming release of the new album 'Let This Be The Last Night We Care' (available on April 27th in the USA on Paper Garden Records) and those nice folk at said record label sending us another song by the band, I just had to give them another big Beehive Candy recommendation. The band will be touring Japan and Europe along with the U.S. this year so keep a look out for tour details. Featured Track: My Eyes To See . Website: MySpace . Purchase: Paper Garden Records . Amazon . _________________________ Indianapolis three-piece Burnt Ones released their debut 7" All Night Long via Roaring Colonel Records last Thursday (April 15th), which also happens to be the label's debut release. Roaring Colonel is the newest project of blogger-extraord

The Corrs - Sopot Festival Poland 1998

Image
This is The Corrs live at The Sopot Festival in Poland back on the 21st August 1998. The band have been on hiatus since 2006, as raising families and personal aspirations understandably take priority. Having seen them live a couple of times, this performance is a fine representation of their excellent musicianship and harmonies. The Corrs are one of those bands that make what they do seem so easy, however years of practice lay behind their superb performances. With the encouragement of their parents, Jim took guitar lessons, Sharon played the violin and Andrea took up the tin whistle. Caroline did not learn to play the drums until she was 17 and was helped by a boyfriend at the time. They were all taught the piano by their father. Throughout their teenage years the children practised in Jim's bedroom at a rented house. Andrea sang lead vocals, Sharon played the violin, and Caroline and Jim played the keyboards. The Blue Nile - Manchester 1991.

Image
This is The Blue Nile in concert back on the 13th September 1991 at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester, England. The band was formed in 1981 when Paul Buchanan  and his friend, Robert Bell, met Paul Joseph Moore after graduating from the University of Glasgow in the late 1970s. Although their individual degrees didn't reflect their future career wishes (English Literature, Electronics and Mathematics, respectively), their mutual friendship grew out of their shared interest in music, and they began writing and recording together. The music of The Blue Nile is built heavily on synthesizers and electronic instrumentation and percussion, although later works have featured acoustic guitar more prominently. The band have only produced four albums and large gaps between recording and touring has always been the norm for this band. Source: BBC FM radio broadcast. 2010FM - April Edition One.

Image
A slight change for this edition with all the music streamed at the bottom in one player. Details of each featured track are mentioned with each artist. Hidden Shoal Recordings recently announced the release of the single ‘The Green’ by American ambient experimental pop duo Boxharp . For those new to the band, Boxharp are Scott Solter (producer/engineer for the likes of Spoon, The Mountain Goats  and St. Vincent) and Wendy Allen (Tarentel and The Ballustrade Ensemble). The title track from their forthcoming album, ‘The Green’ sees Boxharp perhaps clarify what spacious astral pop sounds like. The song is a splendid and gentle presentation of quality pop with the multi-tracked vocals of Wendy Allen, ‘The Green’is a great introduction for the forthcoming album and has got Beehive Candy very interested in hearing more. The band was recently featured on David Bowie's official website after previously being chosen by Bowie in an article in British newspaper The Guardian as one of h
