Charm of Finches - Konradsen Feat. Gia Margaret - Anna of the North - Older Now

Charm of Finches - Meteor.

Blazing a trail of future music to come, “Meteor” is the first of a series of planned releases from the Australian folk-pop duo due to impact in the coming months that will form their highly anticipated fifth album.

Inspired by the powerful forces of nature that reflect a tumultuous inner world, the track was recorded by the ocean in Victoria, Australia, and mixed in Canada. Of this sensual, string-laden new single, Charm of Finches say: “This song came out of a bit of a turbulent time, and contemplates the sometimes fraught relationship with the self. We’ve visited many dramatic landscapes this year - we hiked up an active volcano in New Zealand and visited the oldest rainforest in the world up in Northern Queensland. We think that witnessing the power and grandeur of nature really influenced the writing of this song.”

Directed and edited by Charm of Finches, the track is accompanied by a bewitching official video featuring elegant choreography and shamanic feathered costumes hand-crafted by the band. Of the visuals, the band add: “We love to create music videos that are sort of like mini short films. We drew aesthetic inspiration from Yellow Jackets with a sprinkle of Narnia. We got out the glue guns and handcrafted elven twig crowns and feathered costume pieces, and even painted an animal skull mask. We collaborated with our incredible friends who helped us design and put together the costumes, source props as well as dance and act in it! We wanted to capture a magical, powerful, natural world and incorporate the beauty of the Australian landscape.”

Konradsen Feat. Gia Margaret - Nick of Time.

Northern Norwegian duo Konradsen - the project of Jenny Marie Sabel and Eirik Vildgren - returned Friday with new single 'Nick of Time', a moving collaboration with Chicago songwriter Gia Margaret. Released alongside an animated visual made by Jacob Grönbech Jensen (Kelly Lee Owens, Prins Thomas), the song captures a fragile space between stillness and change. Two acts who have built worlds out of quiet precision and emotional restraint, Konradsen and Gia began exchanging ideas between their studios in Oslo and Chicago after years of mutual admiration.

The resulting collaboration unfolds as a spectral meditation on patience and uncertainty. The song’s delicate keys guide its opening, falling like droplets atop the angelic harmonies of Gia Margaret and Konradsen, with the line “I am able, I am capable / I am worn out, alive” standing as a deft summary of what it feels like to endure transformation.

Speaking on the song's lyrical inspiration, Jenny Marie Sabel of Konradsen said: "I was going through a lot of big changes in my life at the time. Everything felt like it was moving so fast, and every big decision seemed to come down to the very last moment. I’ve always been what you’d call a slow changer — I can happily do the same thing for years, while some people love jumping into new projects all the time. I like routine and process, and I don’t like to rush into things. Over the past couple of years, I’ve asked myself over and over: “Will we find a solution?”, and somehow, things always seem to fall into place in the end."

Gia Margaret added: "When Jenny sent me Nick of Time it blew me right over! I was asked if I could contribute to it while I was in the thick of finishing up a record of my own and I had no business taking it on… but I couldn’t look away.  I felt totally immersed in her voice and words and it offered some room for playfulness. It was so easy to sing with Jenny’s beautiful and effortlessly cool voice. I also filled all the spaces I could with synth and piano. I’ve always felt some affinity with Konradsen’s production style so it felt like second nature. I hope this is the beginning of many more collaborations with this wonderful band."

Anna of the North - No One Knows You Better.

Norwegian singer-songwriter Anna of the North just announced her long-awaited new album Girl in a Bottle, will be out December 5, alongside the release of brand new single "No One Knows You Better", out now via Play It Again Sam.

Deeply personal yet universal, Girl in a Bottle is Anna of the North’s most vulnerable record yet, as she captures the dopamine rush of new romance, the fleeting fragility of modern love, and lasting heartache when it all dissolves. With production by Starsmith (JADE, Kylie Minogue, Ellie Goulding) and Sebastian Furrer (COBRAH, Avicii) Anna’s melancholic tone is transcendent across the 8 tracks of ‘Girl in a Bottle’, and though the 80s hued sonics point to hope and nostalgia, there is a signature sadness at the core.

The album features the swirling, lovelorn single "No One Knows You Better", with the refrain of the title gently repeated, allowing Anna to bare all. It follows on from the glistening, crystalline pop anthems "Call Me", "Waiting For Love" and "Give Me Your Love Back".

Over the years Anna of the North has received critical acclaim for her albums Lovers (2017), Dream Girl (2019) and Crazy Life (2022), gaining support from the likes of Billboard, Vogue, London Standard, i-D, FADER, NME and so many more. Her sound has transcended all around the world, generating a total of 550M+ streams. Anna’s music has earned her a Norwegian Grammy for single "Dream Girl", alongside co-signs and collaborations with the likes of Tyler The Creator, Frank Ocean, Steve Lacy, Dua Lipa and G-Eazy.

Older Now - Tide.

From Basel comes the perfect soundtrack for autumn: Older Now, the singer-songwriter project of Swiss musician Philipp Bäni, releases “Tide” — a delicate, atmospheric single full of depth and warmth. Fans of bands like Calexico or artists such as David Gray, as well as lovers of indie folk in general, will especially appreciate the Basel musician’s sound.

Between earthy folk tones and dreamy melancholy, “Tide” draws listeners into a world where a rough-edged voice, clear songwriting, and a gently pulsing rhythm merge into an evocative sonic landscape.

Philipp Bäni is known as a versatile musician who enjoys carrying his art beyond genre boundaries. After various artistic ventures, Older Now returns with “Tide” to the roots of folk-pop – honest, introspective, and full of expansiveness. An invitation to drift – with the rhythm of the tides and the sound of one’s own thoughts.

Anna of the North - North Riding - Malin Schell - Isabel Rumble - Louis O’Hara

Anna of the North - Call Me.

Global indie pop icon Anna of the North's latest single "Call Me" is a pop gem with 80s and 90s influences shining through and Anna’s vocals and lyrics as on-point as ever.

Anna of the North is the solo project of Anna Lotterud, an Oslo-based Norwegian singer-songwriter from Gjøvik. Originally formed as a duo with producer Brady Daniell-Smith in 2014, their debut studio album Lovers was released in 2017. Daniell-Smith left the group in 2018, with Lotterud continuing to use the name. The second album, Dream Girl, released in October 2019, was made by Lotterud in association with various producers.

The music has been regarded as "soft, soul-baring electro-pop". During her studies in Melbourne, Australia, Anna met New Zealand producer Brady Daniell-Smith at one of his shows and together formed Anna Of The North, with Anna performing vocals and Brady producing the melodies.

North Riding - Frio River (EP).

International award winning singer-songwriter Hayley Mckay and multi instrumentalist/producer David Neil Crabtree combine as ‘North Riding'. They also performed two headline shows at Durham Fringe Festival.

Legendary BBC presenter Bob Harris made North Riding his ‘New Horizon’ country artist of the week in October & played Frio River on BBC radio 2. A week earlier he had seen the band perform live at Rock N Raise in Newcastle alongside Kezia Gill & The Often Herd.

Their debut EP was released yesterday October 24th to coincide with an EP release show at Newgate Social in Newcastle. North Riding can perform as a 4 piece or 7 piece (full band). Malin Schell - Mother Nature.

Malin Schell has a vision: “When I sing, I merge with the sound and become one with the music. Through this, I reach a state of deep connectedness and inner peace. May my music touch many people’s hearts, inspire them, remind them of the light within themselves, and fill the world with joy, love, and harmony.”

And yes – her new single “Mother Nature” truly does touch the soul. With its rich instrumentation, rarely heard in the indie and folk genres, the song features shimmering harp sounds, romantic and wistful strings, percussion, and a moving voice. Together, they create an aesthetic reminiscent of the Nordic music scene.

Yet Malin Schell was born in Switzerland in 1990. Since childhood, she has been singing and playing the cello, guitar, piano, and various percussion instruments. She studied Music & Movement as well as Jazz Vocals at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, where she trained under Lauren Newton, and later earned a Master’s degree in Vocal Improvisation at the Basel Music Academy under Fred Frith.

Isabel Rumble - Hold Everything Lightly.

Isabel Rumble leans into life's gentle shifts on her second album ‘Hold Everything Lightly’, out yesterday October 24. Tracing the tender spaces between change and acceptance, the regional NSW-based indie-folk artist returns to the heart’s quiet centre, where resilience lives in vulnerability and softness becomes a form of power.

'Hold Everything Lightly’ moves like a slow river, its currents shifting between intimate acoustic folk and fuller, textured moments of release. Fingerpicked guitars, bowed strings, slide guitar, percussion and piano each breathe new life into every track. Isabel’s voice guides the record, warm and weightless as she balances fragility with grace, creating a world that feels both grounded in earth and open to sky.

Across ten tracks, Isabel moves through cycles of self-reflection, drawing from the rhythms of the natural world and the resolve that comes with acceptance. Written in the wake of transition, the record captures moments of honesty, growth and surrender, gently returning to what remains when everything else falls away. Speaking on the album, Isabel shares:

"Following the release of my first album, my approach to songwriting began to morph into a new phase. The songs that make up my second album are the most raw and honest I have written. They let me turn inwards and meet myself honestly in the midst of big change and transition. These songs very much travel through internal landscapes whilst, or perhaps as a consequence of, listening to the cycles of the world around me."

Louis O’Hara - Magpie.

West Wales songwriter Louis O’Hara announces the release of his debut album, 'A Peaceful Kind of Fun', out 7th November 2025 on Libertino Records. The news arrives alongside the release of 'Magpie', the album’s latest single, released earlier this week.

'A Peaceful Kind of Fun' is a 14-track collection that distils O’Hara’s poetic lyricism, tender folk roots, and subtle chamber-pop flourishes into a deeply personal yet quietly universal debut. Recorded with his band His Burley Chassis and produced by James Trevascus (Billy Nomates, Young Fathers, Nick Cave & Warren Ellis) in Spain, the album is shaped by themes of memory, loss, joy, and the places and people that anchor a life.

The album gathers together fragments of memory, relationships, and place, weaving them into songs that honour the connections which shape a life. Moving between moments of joy, loss, and reflection, A Peaceful Kind of Fun lingers on the small details that stay with us - the echoes of childhood, the presence of family, the landscapes of home.

Anna of the North - The Paper Kites - Professor Yaffle

Photo - Morten Sandvik
Anna of the North - Waiting For Love / Give Me Your Love Back.

Norwegian singer and songwriter Anna of the North delivers a brand new single, "Waiting For Love", out now via Play It Again Sam. Produced by Sebastian Furrer (COBRAH, Avicii) the track has Anna’s signature ethereal and dreamlike sound written all over it - pure halcyon pop - with her sweet vocals painting the picture of love felt deeply, and for love lost.

Anna’s music has been widely synced across TV and film over the years, most recently in Norwegian film Dancing Queen in Hollywood, the sequel to 2023’s multi-award winning Dancing Queen. Several Anna of the North songs soundtrack the film, including this new single ‘Waiting For Love’ - her music plays an integral part in the storyline. Additionally, you might catch the singer’s cameo in the movie… which is out now in theatres.

“Waiting for love has been in my demo folder for way too long. It’s been my favorite little indie-pop-song for a while, so I'm excited to share it with the world. It’s about that one time someone came into my life, lovebombed me, and left as quick as they entered. Like 1 day ago I didn’t know who you were and now my life is broken.”

The Paper Kites - Every Town.

Beloved alternative folk band The Paper Kites have announced their seventh studio album, ‘If You Go There, I Hope You Find It’, arriving on January 23rd via Nettwerk Music Group. To herald the announcement they’ve shared their brand new single “Every Town,” available now on all streaming platforms.

The Paper Kites have a gift for crafting tender, emotionally rich songs, and "Every Town" is no exception. It’s a sweet, melancholic reflection on love that lingers, even when everything else changes. With their signature soft melodies and heartfelt lyrics, the song captures that quiet ache of someone who’s always with you, no matter how far you roam or how much time passes. There's a warmth in the sadness, like a memory you don't want to lose, even if it hurts a little.

‘If You Go There, I Hope You Find It’ features the band’s recent single “When The Lavender Blooms,” recorded at Melbourne’s legendary Sing Sing Studios and mixed by multi-Grammy Award winner Jon Low (Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Gracie Abrams). Intimate and achingly reflective, the album is guided by a longing for connection, simplicity, and emotional clarity. Rooted in themes of nature, healing, and hope, each track unfolds like a whispered conversation, offering comfort in its vulnerability and calm in its sincerity. As it explores moments of change, introspection, and the beauty of imperfection, the record remains anchored in the band’s signature atmospheric sound. There’s a quiet familiarity that runs through the album, carrying a sense of return, or of arriving at a place that feels like home, both within and beyond yourself.

Professor Yaffle - Everyone Wants to Dream.

Professor Yaffle's forthcoming album Everyone Wants to Dream, due for release on Violette Records anytime now in September 2025. This Liverpool collective, led by Lee Rogers, has crafted something rather special - a collection of songs that maps the territory of middle age with remarkable honesty and craft. Following previous album releases Cosmic Lullabies, A Brand New Morning, Moments of Clarity and Let There Be Light, this feels like their most focused and expansive work yet.

The album turns on Everton Brow - that unremarkable Liverpool elevation offering the city's finest view. Rogers returns to it repeatedly throughout these eight tracks, using it as both literal place and metaphorical perch from which to survey memory, purpose, and the peculiar sensation that time is somehow accelerating while offering fewer clear destinations.

'Lost in a Dream (On Everton Brow)' weaves together lyrics Rogers wrote at eighteen with newly composed music. 'Everyone Wants to Dream' confronts the disorientation that arrives when children grow and one's role shifts. 'On Top of the World' becomes what Rogers calls 'a stoned love letter to Liverpool' - honest about intent, specific in its references.

The album's cover - a striking Karl Hughes archive photograph of a policeman surveying Liverpool from Everton Brow in 1979 - captures something essential about the record: that those who maintain order might dream the biggest dreams of all. This is Professor Yaffle's first release with Violette Records, marking the beginning of a collaboration that feels both natural and inevitable - two Liverpool entities who've circled each other for years before finding their moment.

RALLO - Clover County - Anna of the North - goodheart

RALLO - Eggshells & Rollercoasters.

Fresh off a wave of artistic momentum, indie rock singer-songwriter RALLO is set to release her latest single, “Eggshells & Rollercoasters,” today July 14. The new track, a delicate yet powerful meditation on the fragility of love and the highs and lows of human connection, will be accompanied by a cinematic music video exploring the song’s themes of intimacy, tension, and resilience.

Fans will also have the opportunity to experience RALLO’s magnetic live energy at two upcoming shows in the Hudson Valley. On July 17, she will perform at Rock da Casbah in Saugerties from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and on July 23, she will take the stage at Pearl Moon in Woodstock from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Seating is limited for both events, so early reservations are encouraged by calling 845-247-3929 for Rock da Casbah and 845-684-5537 for Pearl Moon.

"Eggshells & Rollercoasters” finds RALLO at her most evocative yet, layering poetic lyrics over lush, dynamic production that echoes with a sense of vulnerability. Hypnotic melodies carry the listener through a landscape of emotional contradictions: fragility and strength, joy and doubt, chaos and calm. “I wanted to do something enchanting and honest, yet humorous, with the many rollercoasters & eggshells life seems to be paved with,” says RALLO. “This song just kinda rolled out very organically from that initial spark.”

Clover County - Virginia Slim.

Emerging Georgia-based singer/songwriter Clover County announces that her debut LP Finer Things will release on September 26 via her own label Undercover Lover Records in partnership with Thirty Tigers. Produced by Carrie K (Noah Kahan, Maggie Antone, Koe Wetzel), the album is a coming-of-age soundtrack that explores romantic, familial and platonic love with a winking charm and an observing eye. To accompany the announcement, Clover released the project’s bittersweet first single “Virginia Slim.” Unfolding like the green rolling hills of Georgia’s Blood Mountain where she was inspired to write the song, “Virginia Slim” uses a fuzzy guitar, a painfully beautiful fiddle and the flick of a Zippo lighter to tell the quintessential ‘right person, wrong time’ story.

Next month, Clover will hit the road with rising country star Sam Barber for a run which includes dates in Toronto, Raleigh and more. She will also play FloydFest later this month and Austin City Limits in October.

“‘Virginia Slim’ is about falling for the idea of someone more than the actual person,” Clover shares. “After months on the road and too many blurred connections, I was burnt out. This song became a way to be honest with myself: about craving comfort, about romanticizing what’s in front of me and about choosing to protect a friendship instead of rushing into something I wasn’t ready for. Brad Cook helped me write the last few lines, including the most important of the whole song – ‘It’s been a long time since I’ve known love that wasn’t war.’ My two favorite instruments on this song are the Zippo lighter and the fiddle.”

Anna of the North - Give Me Your Love Back.

Norwegian alt-pop start Anna of the North today makes her stunning return with "Give Me Your Love Back", out now via Play It Again Sam, her first new single since 2022's Crazy Life. She also announces a Winter 2025 U.S. tour, with dates in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and more.

"Give Me Your Love Back" is classic Anna— dreamy, emotional, and irresistibly melodic. Her ethereal vocals and bittersweet lyrics are on show. With this new release, Anna bridges the past and future — offering long-time fans a return to her classic sound. The single arrives as Anna’s 2017 hit “Lovers” has been going viral and surpassing 225 million streams on Spotify.

The new single marks the beginning of a new chapter, with more music to come.

goodheart - Silverspoon Sunday.

Toronto-based indie-pop artist goodheart captures the quiet ache of emotional in-betweens on her debut EP Blue and Other Colours – a self-produced five-track project that explores disconnection, heartbreak, longing, and self-reckoning through shimmering melodies and honest storytelling. With elements of indie-pop, folk, and alt-rock woven through its sound, the EP invites listeners to sit with sadness – not to wallow in it, but to understand it.

From the friction of fading friendships to the numbness of everyday apathy, Blue and Other Colours traces deeply personal experiences with a diaristic sensibility and cinematic edge. Whether it's the drifting isolation of "Casey," the quiet resentment of "Funeral," or the dreamlike malaise of "Stuck in a Cloud," goodheart doesn't shy away from emotional complexity. Instead, she leans in to build lush, dynamic soundscapes that feel both intimate and expansive.

The focus track, "Silverspoon Sunday," is one of the EP's most biting and buoyant moments. With crisp drums, layered guitar work, and bright vocal delivery, it offers a sugar-coated critique of privilege and passivity. "It’s about comfort becoming a kind of cage," says goodheart. "Some people are handed every opportunity and still feel stuck. They coast instead of confronting the real stuff."

Despite its polished surface, the structure of "Silverspoon Sunday" subtly shifts throughout, avoiding traditional pop repetition and instead offering a dynamic chord progression that mirrors the unease beneath its brightness. "I love songs that sneak heavier truths into something that feels fun. This one is a bitter pill with a sugar coating."

Gringa - Anna of the North - Serial Chiller - Bradley Wik & The Charlatans

Gringa - I'ma Build a Home.

Background - It’s easy to fall in love with Brazilian music, and that passion sparked Gringa, the Bay Area quintet of non-Brazilian women who can’t resist experimenting with rhythms and instruments from the overwhelmingly musical country. Cheekily riffing off the Brazilian Portuguese term for a non-Brazilian gal for their name, the band takes everything from samba to forró, and crafts original songs that chronicle their lives.

“I grew up in the US but I fell in love with Brazil. I write songs and hear Brazilian elements in them, but I don’t want to bastardize the source inspirations,” muses Maya Finlay, Gringa’s founder and frontwoman. “You can play with something, but you’ve got to start with the roots. What’s the rhythm? I try to study it and know the traditional ways to play, but after that, you have a lot of influences. You weave them in”

On Letters from A. Broad, they capture the bittersweet exuberance, the seemingly effortless musicianship that’s second nature to Brazilian artists, all while finding their own distinct pop and funk-inspired voices.

The driving force behind the band, sound engineer, singer, and guitar/cavaco player Finlay, never intended to start a Brazilian-esque girl band. The group springs from a lively Brazilian music scene, one where men far outnumber women, and most female instrumentalists tend not to be Brazilian. Website here, Facebook here.

'I'ma Build a Home' is the first of five delicious songs on 'Letters from A.Broad'. It's a mixture of feel good music and rhythmic & melodic pieces, where a mash of genres and styles develop with a Brazilian theme running throughout.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anna of the North - Lovers.

Background - Following the announcement of their debut album Anna Of The North reveal the video for new single ‘Lovers’, directed by Alexander Darby. Speaking of the video, Anna describes:

“On a literal level, the video is about being lost at a house party and surrounded by couples when your own relationship has fallen apart. Digging deeper, it’s set in the same place as the song, that point when you feel so alone and you're reaching out but they're not reaching back. It’s desperate"

‘Lovers’, the debut album from Anna Of The North, will see its worldwide release on Friday 8th September. An album deeply rooted in heartbreak, it’s a subject that courses through the veins of all ten tracks – through the turmoil, the guilt and the tentative joy of finally letting yourself move on.

In three years since the release of debut single ‘Sway’, the Norwegian-Kiwi duo of Anna Lotterud and Brady Daniell-Smith have paved the way for their full-length debut with a run of singles which have notched up over 60 million streams, multiple No.1 spot’s on the Hype Machine charts and rotation on Radio 1, Triple J and Beats 1.

Now they offer up an emphatically assured debut LP, its clean, springy beats and shimmering synths underpinned by the rich, emotive clarity of Anna’s voice. Recorded in Oslo and mixed in Copenhagen and London by Luke Smith (Foals, Petite Noir, Depeche Mode), the album is a coherent but endlessly varied beast. Facebook here, live dates on Beehive Candy's tour news page.

Third time on Beehive Candy for Anna of the North this time with the new single and music video for 'Lovers'. Beautiful pop sensibilities, are at the heart of this mixture of danceable beats and rich synths, that ensure the ever attractive vocals have such a fine backdrop.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Serial Chiller - Bed Mood.

Background - Take a bunch of talented musicians from Hull currently making waves with their own releases at Radio 1, 6Music and Radio X, then hook them up with the young people in the area who’ve been incredibly brave in expressing their feelings in both moving and insightful lyrics, and what do you get? An album of amazing music called Three Minute Heroes #HearMeOut. If ever there was an example of the healing power of music Three Minute Heroes is it.

Featuring much loved bands from the area like La Bête Blooms, who’s collaboration with EMBRS on the track Stingray likens feelings of frustration to that of swimming in the deepest ocean - The Might And the Moon who sing about escaping the pressures around you as a child in Home – Serial Chiller and their cry for calm and solitude on Bed Mood - False Advertising and their “Pumpkins-esque” track It’s Been A While (excellent vocals from lead singer Jen Hingley btw) - The Froot of ’67 with their Hendrix influenced funk-rock on Egg - the folk flavours of the Hillbilly Troupe song Dead Langer - The Quicksliver Kings and their teacher/student conversation in I Want To Be Human and not to forget Crooked Weather’s dark and mysterious Skeletons.

The CD version of the album comes with a full colour booklet featuring lyrics to all the songs. It is a true insight into the thoughts, feelings, fears and excitement felt by young people throughout East Yorkshire, during Hull’s year as the UK City of Culture - a socially relevant and inspiring body of work that is on point in this time of heightened awareness around mental health. 'Bed Mood' is taken from the 'Three Minute Heroes' project - a campaign from The Warren Youth Project that supports young people to use creative writing and music to talk openly, confidently and safely about what’s on their mind. Facebook here.

The background and cause, that sits behind songs such as 'Bed Mood', is noble and responsible enough to twist my arm into featuring a track. No arm twisting is required however, this is one fine track & the video is a fabulous accompaniment.

Bradley Wik & The Charlatans - Some Girls (Still Love Rock N' Roll).

Background - Bradley Wik & The Charlatans are proud to release their first single, "Some Girls (Still Love Rock N Roll)."  For those thirsting for a fresh rock n roll sound, Bradley Wik is the answer.  Raw and unpretentious, the sound harkens back to the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and the Replacements. No gimmicks, no frills.  Just pure passion.

Just like Odysseus, Bradley Wik has always been too far from home, a Midwest boy searching for the music that once was and that could be once again.  On this new record, Bradley takes a line from the Thin Lizzy song, "Got to Give it Up."  He has lived a lot more life than his age would let on.  Battling with drugs and alcohol, failed relationships, and personal struggle, this new record is a way for the singer-songwriter to come to terms with his rambling lifestyle.

Clinging closely to the belief that raw, organic music has the power to penetrate the airwaves again, Bradley has broken the mold of modern trends and gone back to its roots, recording as a band, together, in one room, to tape; and without social media.

Wise beyond his years, Bradley draws on themes of redemption. There’s an unmatched vitality that he brings to his music; it doesn’t have to be perfect, but it does have to be worth it. What makes music great? The stories. And the moment where someone listening says, “that’s me.”

Bradley Wik & The Charlatans "In My Youth, I'm Getting Old..." will be available September 15th, 2017. Website here.

'Some Girls (Still Love Rock N' Roll)' dispenses with all non essentials and focuses on being a rock'n'roll song that relies purely on it's hooks and edge to get noticed. Looking forward to noticing the album as well!

Tuesdays Alternative Take: Klasey Jones - Khodara - The Proper Ornaments - Anna of the North

Klasey Jones - Cement.

Background - Plastician’s Terrorhythm imprint have been breathing plenty of life into the mutated, hybrid club sounds emerging from both UK and US beat-makers over the past two years, crucially spotlighting producers like Ganz, AWE, Patrick Brian and JD Reid for the first time.

The latest name to emerge from the camp, Klasey Jones, has been bubbling under for the past year, with his tracks earning heavy rotation on Plastician’s Rinse FM show in particular — itself often a valuable resource for those seeking a link between grime, drill and instrumental, cloud-wave rap. Jones’ debut EP — the widescreen, cinematic ‘Foreign Buyers Club’ — is a profound case in point, linking the above sub-genres with flashes of 80s synth music, anime OSTs and some genuinely one-of-a-kind sound design.

At five tracks long, Jones is also able to explore the variants to his sound fully across the EP; see the morbid dystopia of opener ‘Area 55’ for example, or conversely, the hazy, string-led romance on ‘Gang Gang’. With over 150 instrumentals currently sat on his hardrive, Jones’ potential is limitless, but ‘Foreign Buyers Club’ serves as the perfect introduction to where he’s headed. Facebook here.

Awash with layers of rich and vibrant synths 'Cement' is one of five tracks on the EP. On the featured track the rhythm comes and goes and for moments the synths just swirl around deciding perhaps where to go next. This is both imaginative and creative music.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Khodara - Billie.

Background - "Billie" is the first single off of Khodara's newest EP of the same title, out 3/17. 'Billie' will come out just months after her debut EP 'Where's Your Love?' , which was released on 12/13.

Khodara’s second EP entitled Billie – EP is a slower collection of pop songs, reflecting on the artist’s journey to date.  Produced and co-written once again by Billy Pavone, the 4-song EP has been compared to the XX and Phantogram while vocally recalling an early Madonna or a more refined Lana del Rey.  The purity of Khodara’s heart shines through in the lyrics.  Billie – EP’s overall message of overcoming fear is what young women around the world need to hear right now.

Website here and Facebook here.

With it's slow and easy beat 'Billie' is one very fine song. Melodic vocals gently build and then drift back into the atmospheric vibes. High quality pop music is alive and well with Khodara.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have already featured a couple of tracks from the forthcoming album release and as the band are consistently turning out refined material and have some tour dates to share here is the latest song they have shared 'Bridge By A Tunnel'. This is a more laid back piece with fine harmonies and a superbly calm vibe throughout.

Anna of the North - Oslo.

Background - Electronic duo Anna of the North (Anna Lotterud & Brady Daniell-Smith) today unveil new single “Oslo”, transporting you to a crisp, wintery walk through the streets of their city. It’s an icy, reflective synth-pop cut which beautifully marries the coldness of the climate with the warm sensation of home.  It’s got all the allure and emotion we now expect from Anna of the North, and follows the success of Anna & Brady’s previous singles “Sway”, “The Dreamer” “Baby” and most recently “Us”.

The idea for the track came from a photo of the city that Brady from the band had, “I’d never been to Oslo. It seemed so untouched and really captured my imagination”. The song began to form a few winters back, written as gift for a group of homesick Norwegian friends that Brady had met in Australia. He continues, "I met Anna soon after and we finished it together - she brought an authenticity to it that makes it feel like a love letter to the city."

Anna Of The North have recently played Pitchfork Music Festival, completed an arena tour with Kygo, as well as a run of UK shows with Liss. The band play Eurosonic Festival on Jan 13th. Further live dates to be announced soon. ‘Oslo’ is out now via Honeymoon / Different Recordings. Facebook here.

Back in August last year we first featured Anna of the North and said of the song 'Us' at the time "a smooth electro song with a hypnotic groove and Anna Lotterud wonderful vocals". Fast forward till today and the new piece 'Oslo' confirms that the duo are more than capable of exceeding expectations, this is a beautiful song.

Genre Wander: Rainbow Reservoir - Audience Killers - Sunshine & The Blue Moon - Anna Of The North

Rainbow Reservoir - Coco Sleeps Around

Background promo - Cardiff-based DIY pop imprint Odd Box Records are releasing the brilliant new 7" - Coco Sleeps Around - from Oxford's insatiable Rainbow Reservoir. With the full EP to be released September 10th the band are now sharing the title-track from the new record.

Despite being a relatively new band this is melodic power-pop at it's absolute best and is sure to thrust the band into popular acclaim. On one side the track is sublime, quirky pop but there's a feisty, angst-ridden undercurrent beneath the track. If you're a fan of Tullycraft, Cars Can Be Flue, Waxahatchee and Horowitz then this will definitely be your bag. Vocalist Angela was asked to describe their wistful pop, explaining that "it's punk in spirit and upbeat, has lots of rhythm, and can be romantic but with a dark side".

From the first note 'Coco Sleeps Around' demands attention. Rainbow Reservoir create a measure of punk angst surrounded by melodic hooks, feisty vocals and good old no nonsense rock. The four song EP is more of the bands most welcome and addictive music.

Audience Killers - Patterns.

Background - Latvian synth-pop trio, Audience Killers, release the music video for their next single, "Patterns". The track is from the group's debut album, Floating Islands, which was released in May 2016.

Audience Killers create a fluid blend of synth-pop and electro-pop that often draws comparisons to Mew and Passion Pit. Their debut album Floating Islands delivers this and more with warm, inviting synths, dreamy guitar lines, and ethereal vocals. Petrovs's striking falsetto is sure to bring to mind flashes of M83's Anthony Gonzalez. Lyrically, Floating Islands acknowledges the idea that one person has the ability to affect the lives of many with positivity and inclination.

Childhood friends Normunds Petrovs (vocals/guitar) and Arletta Supe (keyboards/backing vocals) only began writing and making music in 2009. Rounding out the trio, Petrovs and Supe met Edgars Oplucans (drums) during a live studio session in early 2010 and swiftly released their first two singles.

Audience Killers then released their debut EP Footprints And Heart in July 2012 and have since performed across much of Europe at The Great Escape, Reeperbahn Music Festival, and Tallinn Music Week, and released a standalone single, "Two Bare Feet," to much acclaim. This year's debut album release marks a major step for the promising Latvian band.

'Patterns' is a dreamy, atmospheric song that gently glides along, slowly building momentum until it becomes a melodic and vibrant piece (almost a case of three songs in one). The music video really is an ideal match.

Sunshine & The Blue Moon - Sunshine & Lucy.

Background from the band - I'm a bit of a sap, I love the idea of Love. Is there true love? Do we create this love based on instincts or fantasies, or is love itself an instinct? When it comes to how love is created, I don't mind any which way, I'm just happy to have experienced, or at least to have witnessed it. I wanted to try to capture that with a warm music video shot on film, giving the impression of a long lost burgeoning romance captured on warm film, maybe found in a dusty box, on a dusty shelf somewhere, to be viewed with a smile, as a reminder, a vignette of the very thing that drives us. Our debut album comes out on September 16th via The Hand, we're calling it 'Welcome To The Future'.

Sunshine & the Blue Moon choose to experiment not only with sound, but mood as well, expanding their aural landscape beyond common signifiers. Blending influences and ideas from across genres and eras spanning from early blues, folk and country, to 60's rock and soul, through eclectic 90's grooves. One listen may place you on a rural road with your sweetheart, feeling the summer breeze as it rolls through the trembling leaves. While another might place you in a pulsing dream wanting nothing more than to escape the hot city streets, to shake and dance the through the night.

One of nine songs on the debut album, 'Sunshine & Lucy' gives a flavour of where the band go with their music, it's certainly not the only style you will hear though. For example the following song (Depression) is a mixture of funk, blues and energy. What's consistent is the really tight musicianship and some exceptional vocal styles. As debut albums go, this is of a very high standard, the band have set expectations high, and I reckon they will deliver on that.

Anna Of The North - Us.

Background - Anna of the North is the music project of Norwegian singer Anna Lotterud and her producer Brady. She has just got off tour with Kygo and is a staple on Spotify playlists.

Originally from a small town north of Oslo, it was in Melbourne that she met Brady, and gained the Anna of the North moniker.

Two songs The Dreamer and Baby, have gained the top spot on Hype Machine, establishing a sizable listenership and following. The new song 'Us' confirms that Anna of the North are far more than a one two hit wonder!

Live Date:
Sep 20th 2016 - The Lexington, London, United Kingdom.

'Us' is a smooth electro song with a hypnotic groove and Anna Lotterud wonderful vocals. In what is a crowded part of the music world, Anna Of The North stand out, in part because they focus on the key ingredients of the song and deliver an uncluttered and yet expansive pop sound.
