Aaron Boyd - TREMOURS - Annie Hart - My Name Is Ian - Muca - Lindsay Lou

Aaron Boyd - Coming Undone (Album).

This is one really fine album, where every song matters. The background below gives a fine overview of both Aaron Boyd and the collection of new songs, listening just takes everything to another level.

Born and raised in Stanton Kentucky, and residing in Irvine Kentucky,  Aaron Boyd is a singer songwriter  that writes from a place only a few with the gift of a second chance can do. Boyds songwriting serves as an honest ledger of accounts that rise from the same rich patch of earth as the minerals found deep in Appalachian soil. With his carefully crafted lyrics and timeless sound, Aaron Boyd’s sophomore album “Coming Undone”, will shake your soul to its foundations.

Boyd began pursuing his passion for music and songwriting in earnest after his daughter was born. With new clarity and understanding of priorities, mortality and immortality, he was inspired to take seriously the gifts he no longer wanted to squander. His 2019 debut album, “Until the End” is a raw and honest account of the shadow-boxing necessary in one’s journey toward sobriety, when easy escape is no longer an option. through these haunting words and by facing and retrieving lost parts of himself, he becomes a healer for the rest of us

Fast forward a few years and we hear that sobriety brings a stronger, surer voice to his second album, “Coming Undone,” as well as a glimpse of light and hope and even a little gratitude. In the second verse from his title track, “I see you from across the bar/I get lost in your smile for a little while before I head to my car/it may not seem like much but it means the world to me/sharing some words of things we’ve heard and then suddenly/ I don’t want to run from all the things in life that I’ve done.”

“Virginia”, another single on the new album speaks of love whether it be of a special person or place and the fond memories of “those nights on the riverbank…underneath a big ole sky…Virginia, I love you/the heavens open up and shine a light on you while I’m away.” In “All the Good Times” the narrator is coming to acceptance and understanding of where he’s been while “The Very First Day” evokes the ethereal sounds of love eternal. “Earthly Sorrow” may be a nod to his beloved grandmother’s hymns.

TREMOURS - Dark Glasses.

Today 7th July 2023 shoegaze/dream-pop duo TREMOURS release their new single 'Dark Glasses' via Little Cloud Records.  The b-side includes a remix from Peter Holmström (Pete International Airport) of the Dandy Warhols.  The tracks will be available digitally on all platforms and on 7" color vinyl.  The video for 'Dark Glasses' was shot and directed by Carlos Colón in the Mojave Desert.

'Dark Glasses' is ominous while dancey.  Lauren's ghostly, dreamy vocals are driven forward by Glenn's pulsating drums, as hazy layers of guitar and dark Moog lines swirl around it all.

TREMOURS formed in Los Angeles in 2021 by the duo of Lauren Andino and Glenn Fryatt. Late night jam sessions in the midst of lockdown uncertainty slowly transformed into TREMOURS creative partnership, driven by the tension between Andino’s hazy, drifting guitars and Fryatt’s urgent, pulsating drums.

Annie Hart - What Makes Me Me.

"I wrote this song when I was feeling incredibly down about myself. I felt like the only thing I was good at was feeling gratitude - but at the same time, I was so melancholy. I pulled a trick from Belle and Sebastian’s hat and made this as cute, sing-alongable, and folky as I could. If I was going to feel bad about myself, why not have fun with it?" -Annie Hart

Annie Hart is is a New York City-based composer, songwriter, and performer. She made her name with David Lynch favorites and Twin Peaks alums, indie synth trio Au Revoir Simone, and has since branched into a wide-ranging solo career. Her new album, The Weight of a Wave, is an upbeat, fun blend of her DIY punk roots and love of new-wave-inspired vintage synthesizers.  Recorded primarily in her basement and at several arts residencies around the world, it was mixed in parts by Jorge Elbrecht (Japanese Breakfast, Hatchie), Joshua Druckman at Outlier Inn (Nude Party, Snail Mail), and Justin Pizzoferrato (Wild Pink, Dinosaur Jr.).

Annie’s reputation as a master of composition on analog synthesizers has led her to be chosen to compose the score for several shorts and feature films, including the prestigious ASCAP/Columbia University Film Scoring Workshop, Banana Split (Universal), & Olympic Dreams (IFC).  Film scoring, in turn, led her down the path of composing for orchestral instruments and study the art of it at the night school at Juilliard.  She has since won several grants for public performances of her chamber and classical work, including a performance by the Argus Quartet.

Between 2017 and 2022 Annie released three critically-acclaimed solo albums, including an ambient album on Orindal Records, and completed several world tours.  She will be touring the US in August of 2023, both as a headliner and collaboratively with the comedian and musician Fred Armisen.

My Name Is Ian - Underachiever Of The Year.

Ahead of My Name is Ian’s upcoming album, ‘GO BANANAS GO BANANAS GO BANANAS GO BANANAS GO BANANAS’, ‘Underachiever of the Year’ is set to be released on July 7th. Following on from their last single, ‘Thank You’, the track is about working a dead end job, just being able to pay your rent, feeling as clueless as you did at 18 but now being in your mid 30s.

‘GO BANANAS GO BANANAS GO BANANAS GO BANANAS GO BANANAS’ will be the band’s upcoming 8th studio album. The record will be full of the trademark blend of catchy pop melodies, witty lyrics, and infectious energy. Songs about hating your life, loving your life, Norwegian families, coconut crabs, 90s television shows, feeling like a loser, not trusting the government and Peppa pig. There is something for everyone. The album will be released digitally on the 21st July, with a limited edition run of 100 vinyl records following in late august.

Creatures of Cardiff, My Name Is Ian have already built a back catalogue that would have taken The Stone Roses millennia to mirror. Since 2010 their output of has dealt with break-ups, breakdowns, mysterious lion paintings and characters from the Tom Hanks movie Big. This restless productivity has seen genres including but not restricted to lo-fi, bedroom punk, garage rock, prog and anti-folk, all filtered through the pop-oriented cranium of frontman Reginald Foxwell.

Muca - Like This Before.

Top London based producer Muca releases ‘Like This Before’, a brand new collaboration with acclaimed singer Celeste Caramanna and his second track featuring legendary Brazilian Bossa Nova guitarist Roberto Menescal. With the new single, Muca also announces his most exciting project to date; A full album created with Roberto Menescal and talented emerging singers from around the world that aims to refresh Bossa Nova with new energy and perspectives, creating a lasting legacy for the next generations of musicians.

Muca’s first collaboration with Menescal was 2021’s ‘Until We Meet Again’ which featured Alice SK on vocals. The track received incredible feedback from the likes of Songwriting Magazine & Songlines Magazine and BBC airplay with an interview with Robert Elms.  The song has now reached over 1 million streams worldwide, so it feels like the right time for Muca to follow it up with new Menescal collaboration, ‘Like This Before’.

‘Like This Before’ has a modern and lively approach that pays homage to its Brazilian roots and the Bossa Nova style. The combination of the infamous acoustic guitar style of one of the only remaining living legends and pioneers of Bossa Nova, Roberto Menescal and Celeste Caramanna’s soft and sumptuous vocals is like honey on the ears and the collaboration shows how a sixty-year-old genre is still so special and still resonates with both old & young minds. The groove from Roberto’s guitar work sits beautifully behind the melody, with Muca’s fine skill of fusing the old and new wrapping the track up into quite a unique piece of music.

Muca specifically flew to Rio to record the track with Menescal. Once the recordings were done, Muca handpicked the right singer for the song. The only name that came to mind for this song was Celeste. Making the decision was easy; Muca saw Celeste for the first time on the same night he first met Menescal at Pizza Live Express Live in London. Celeste appeared with Menescal and sang a track with him that night. Both Menescal & Muca agreed that she would be the best vocalist for this track.  Celeste then worked on the lyrics and recorded the vocals with Muca in London.

Lindsay Lou - Nothing Else Matters.

Lindsay Lou shares “Nothing Else Matters,” the latest single from her forthcoming album Queen of Time, out September 29 via Kill Rock Stars Nashville. Co-written by Nashville musicians Maya de Vitry and Phoebe Hunt, the song features Grammy Award-winner Jerry Douglas with his immediately recognizable dobro work.

“I first heard this song when Phoebe sent me a few tracks to learn for a gig we had together,” explains Lou. “She told me that she had written it with my dear friend Maya, who was one of the first people I called when I was going through my divorce. Though the song wasn’t written for me specifically, it feels like it came to me right when I needed it.” She continues, “There is something incredibly iconic to Jerry’s playing; it’s unmistakable. Like every touch of his bar to the string speaks exactly to the heart of the song. I feel really honored to have his musical voice among the players.”

Queen of Time was produced by Dave O'Donnell (James Taylor, Sheryl Crow, Heart) and also features Grammy Award-winner Billy Strings. “Nothing Else Matters” follows the debut single and title track “Queen of Time,” which exemplifies the continued theme of duality as Lou explores a path filled with heartbreak, discovery and resilience.

After the loss of her grandmother, the end of her marriage, and the overwhelming turmoil of COVID lockdowns, Lou sought out a hallucinogenic ritual that would not only inform the way she processed the waves of grief ahead of her, but led to a profound realization about her own feminine power. With a new vision of womanhood in mind, she began to see a throughline from her grandmother, to herself, to the art she was creating. Queen of Time is the result of that deeply personal spiritual journey, unfolding across eleven tracks of tender, heartbreakingly beautiful music.

Ozomatli - Sisters - Annie Hart - Taliwhoah

Ozomatli - Come and Get Your Love + Solamente Una Vez (feat. Gaby Moreno).

Background - Ozomatli is giving classic and iconic Latin songs a reggae twist on their current album 'Nonstop: Mexico → Jamaica'. Since its inception in 1995, innovation and creativity have defined Ozomatli. Hailing from Los Angeles, the group found a way to represent the city's eclectic culture through music that appeals to the local community and the world beyond. Ozomatli's success is exemplified in an impressive variety of genres, from classic to modern Latino, urban, hip-hop and other world styles. The "Dioses del Baile," or "Gods of Dance," have created one of the most exciting, captivating and flat-out fun live shows touring today. They continue to harness their musical instincts by conceiving new concepts and forging new sounds that keep fans on their toes and the world dancing.

Ozomatli's latest recording -'Nonstop: Mexico → Jamaica' - is an album of classic and contemporary Mexican hits re-imagined with a Jamaican feel. Teaming up with other Latin superstars like Gaby Moreno (courtesy of Metamorfosis Enterprises), Juanes and Régulo Caro for the new versions of these "oldies but goodies," the album pays tribute to music and artists Ozomatli members grew up listening to, inspiring them to reconnect and reinterpret songs that defined their youth.

Produced by drum & bass reggae legends, Sly & Robbie ( whose production credits include Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Madonna, No Doubt) and featuring various high profile guest vocalists, the album reflects the bands multi-genre influences as well as their travels around the world. Website here.

I could not decide which song to feature as they contrast with each other, showing two musical sides to Ozomatli. So here are both 'Come and Get Your Love' and 'Solamente Una Vez', two fabulous songs that deliver both gorgeous Latin vibes and majestic reggae, alongside some fabulous musicianship & vocals.

Sisters - Heart Beats.

Background - Sisters have announced their upcoming album Wait Don't Wait and share the first single "Heart Beats". Wait Don’t Wait is the band’s second full-length album to be slated for release in this dark and disorienting year of 2017 – and their first release via Tender Loving Empire. Their debut LP, Drink Champagne (self-released Valentine’s Day 2017) was met with a confluence of, “How were you able to release such a happy record right now?” and, “Thank you so much for releasing such a happy record right now!”; sentiments that are only amplified, strengthened and refined on Wait Don’t Wait. Joy as an act of revolutionary defiance in the face of oppression is the name of their game, and it sounds too damn good to ignore.

March of 2017 in a cabin nestled outside of Clinton, Washington; Whidbey Island: Equipped with an iPhone for recording, a drum kit and a few synthesizers and guitars, Westman and Vait hole up for a week. Each day, they improvise from dawn until dusk as the cornerstones of songs emerge. Each thread is built upon – developed with care, knowledge, and – most obviously – the joy of discovery. Lyrics are free-styled and penned over a core skeletal structure until the spirit of a song emerges and is recorded to the iPhone. As their time on the island draws to a close, the duo sits atop a quorum of tunes – enough to fill a record.

October 13th 2017; Everywhere, Planet Earth: With the release ofWait Don’t Wait, Sisters are not only presenting another pop record full of bangers that demands repeat listens – their second this year – they are also methodically working toward creating a world that is safe for everyone. The thing called hatred; the thing called violence; the things that threaten life and love cannot survive in the face of true joy. Sisters deliver unrestrained joy, and it is desperately needed right now. The world has been waiting, but it needs wait no more. Website here, Facebook here.

There is a funky fresh rhythm on 'Heart Beats' and some vocals & harmonies that add even more of a soulful feel to this refreshing song.

Annie Hart - Hard To Be Still.

Background - Annie Hart is best known as one-third of Au Revoir Simone, the beloved all-female synth trio that counts David Lynch as a superfan (& also recently appeared on Twin Peaks). But with the eight tracks on her solo debut, Impossible Accomplice (Instant Records, Sept. 15), Annie will emerge as an electrifying artist and producer in her own right.

During the band's hiatus, she has been crafting pop songs on classic synthesizers, with a less-is-more approach, writing and engineering the record on her own in the basement of her Brooklyn home, sneaking sessions in while her children were sleeping.  Greatly influenced by the spare synthesizer sounds of Laurie Spiegel and the post-punk sensibility of artists like Alex Cameron, Annie has embraced her love of meticulously crafting the perfect tone to match the emotion of a song. "Be it melancholy, longing, happiness or simple desire, there is no better way to explain my innermost world than by going past words and into the intuitive and visceral feeling that a particular sound can evoke.”

In songs such as the first single, "Hard To Be Still" (featured on an episode of Netflix series, Gypsy, starring Naomi Watts), Annie cuts back the layers to reveal a rawer version of the dreamy synth pop her band was famous for forging. Solo, Annie has opened for artists such as M. Ward and Neko Case, and will be playing a handful of shows this summer in support of the new record. Website here, Facebook here.

We featured 'I Don't Want Your Love' from Annie Hart just a couple of weeks back & now we can share the new video for 'Hard To Be Still'. This is more of a rocker with a beautifully produced soundtrack and another delightful helping of dreamy vocals.

Taliwhoah - Details.

Background - A stylish pop outlier with Afro-Caribbean soul, R&B swagger, London-born and Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and artist Taliwhoah immediately elicits a reaction any time she sings. That typical response can be found in her very moniker…

Born in a big artistic family to a British born, Nigerian-Lebanese mom and Jamaican dad, Talitha Cross had a very roundabout introduction to music. Both her mom Toyin Adekale and auntie Maizie Williams were in the influential band Boney M, who according to many including the Independent helped define the late disco-pop 1970s era. Therefore Tali since she was little would spend hours watching and studying their VHS tapes and learning from the very best.

After relocating to LA, Tali experienced a very testing time during which her desire for song writing was born. Left homeless due to difficult circumstances, she slept in Union Station many times, scared, alone and writing songs as a survival tactic.

Fast-forward a few years and now Taliwhoah is signed to the uber cool Rostrum Records and has just released her latest single ‘Details’.

‘Details’ is a down-tempo piece of dusky R&B, dancehall and electronica. Talitha’s voice takes flight over a skittering synth, entrancing at every turn. “I was thinking about tattoos as an analogy for life,” Tali adds. “The biggest risks you take define you. Those little details we’re left with are what matter the most. It’s a moment of reflection for me.” Facebook here.

I have to say the clever synth driven musical arrangement on 'Details' is rich, deep and creative making for a beautiful contrast with Taliwhoah's lush, soulful vocals. Keeping the overall song a little understated enables everything to shine through!

Garbage - The Blow - MOON - Annie Hart - Emily Rockarts - Frankie Rose

Garbage - No Horses.

Background - Garbage yesterday released their new single "No Horses". All of the band's profits from sales and streaming of the single will be donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross through the end of 2018.

"'No Horses' is basically a dream fueled anxiety attack. A dark imagining of the future in which a presiding regime values only profit and success leaving no room for tiny beautiful things, small gestures and great beasts," shared Garbage singer Shirley Manson on the song.

Earlier this month, Garbage released their autobiographical coffee table book, This Is The Noise That Keeps Me Awake via Akashic Books. The book includes never before seen photographs of the band as well as pieces written by each of the four band members. Throughout their upcoming tour, Garbage will be visiting a select number of indie record stores and bookstores across the country to sign copies of the book. A complete list of upcoming signings can be found below.

Upcoming Garbage Book Signing Dates:
July 16 - Twist & Shout Records, Denver, CO
July 20 - Magers & Quinn Booksellers, Minneapolis, MN
July 23 - The Book Cellar, Chicago, IL
July 27 - Type Books, Toronto, ON
August 6 - Criminal Records, Atlanta, GA

Garbage kicked off their co-headline "Rage & Rapture Tour" with Blondie on July 5th in Saratoga, CA and will be touring the U.S. for the duration of the summer. Both bands along with an opening slot from Sky Ferreira played to a crowd of 17,000 fans this month, selling out LA's Hollywood Bowl. Support for additional Rage & Rapture tour dates will be provided by John Doe & Exene Cervenka followed by Deap Vally. A complete list of upcoming live dates can be found on Beehive Candy's tour news page. Band website here.

I have always been a bit of a Garbage music fan and the new single 'No Horses' both supports a worthy cause, and is one typically fine Garbage song, simple as that really.

The Blow - Get Up.

Background - The Blow announces its new album, Brand New Abyss, with a Pledge Music campaign along with the album's amped up first single "Get Up". The album's out Sept. 22 and the band will also tour this Fall on a co-headlining run with kindred spirit EMA. The Pledge Music campaign has some pretty unique premiums, such as a Blow beach towel set, a Gold Lamé Crystal Stereo Pair and a "vibe chain" worn by Melissa during the making of the album (see a full list of premiums, including turquoise vinyl, here).

The Blow’s new album, Brand New Abyss, is a lightning rod. A wild assembly of frequencies produced out of a thrust of electroacoustic punk energy, the album is a search for a new sound of rebellion in an environment where the aesthetic of punk has been commodified into submission along with most everything else. Brand New Abyss was written and produced by The Blow (Melissa Dyne and Khaela Maricich) using a production rig that the duo painstakingly developed over the past four years; a mothership of patched-together modular synthesizers, ancient samplers and audio production gear.

Like wizards in a craggy laboratory, they worked in seclusion, teaching themselves to control the raw material of sound using basic elements of electronic synthesis. Their aim was to be able to channel frequency into new shapes that would be useful to them, like tools to break through the algorithmic limits they were growing bored of. Says Dyne, “After having worked heavily with a samples in the past we got to a place where we wanted to treat electronic sound more acoustically, like something more alive. We wanted to make waves that we could ride and play around in- newer waves.” Website here, Facebook here.

'Get Up' is an adventurous taster for the September album release. The Blow mix intriguing and original musical sounds with some fabulous vocals, and arrive with something that just demands attention.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MOON - Hang On.

Background - MOON is a Los Angeles based alt-rock band fronted by Chelsea Davis (vocals/drums), and Dan Silver (guitar/synth). Embracing genres from shoegaze, desert rock, folk and soul, they maintain a healthy electronic presence in their sound. With dreamy guitars, picturesque synth work, and a solid rock backbone, MOON wraps up a concoction of gritty beats with moody and symphonic arrangements.

Their first single “I Got A Fever”, mixed by Mark Needham at Ballroom Studio (Los Angeles), recently appeared on iTunes “Hot Tracks” charts, and synced to the complete TV show intro for USA’s new hit show ‘Colony’. MOON’s current single “We’re So Close” is currently trending at the on KROQ’s Locals Only, hosted by Kat Corbett, and several other stations. Recently MOON was awarded with BalconyTV Editor’s Choice Best Video of 2016 for their live performance of “I Got A Fever” on the rooftop of the W Hollywood.

Originally from the midwest, Dan aka Silver Sessions, produces rock & pop albums and remixes for independent and major artists. He is also a composer with numerous credits on tv, films, ads, trailers and more. He met band-mate, Chelsea, from Utah, during a collaborative studio writing session for a film. A formally trained percussionist/composer and touring instrumentalist, Chelsea brings a flavor of vocals that are reminiscent of Annie Lennox, Cat Power, and Bjork.

The moon is universal. It has an exceptional gravitational pull that we are all attracted to. The music of MOON provides a message to all humans, “we are the human race”. Website here, Facebook here.

Rhythmic and powerful 'Hang On' builds into a splendid song, with bursts of melodic beauty, alongside a slightly darker musical theme.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Annie Hart - I Don't Want Your Love.

Background - Annie Hart of Au Revoir Simone shares new single "I Don't Want Your Love," debut solo album due July 28. Annie Hart is best known as one-third of Au Revoir Simone, the beloved all-female synth trio that counts David Lynch as a superfan (& also recently appeared on Twin Peaks). But with the eight tracks on her solo debut, Impossible Accomplice (Uninhabitable Mansions, July 28), Annie will emerge as an electrifying artist and producer in her own right.

During the band's hiatus, she has been crafting pop songs on classic synthesizers, with a less-is-more approach, writing and engineering the record on her own in the basement of her Brooklyn home, sneaking sessions in while her children were sleeping.  Greatly influenced by the spare synthesizer sounds of Laurie Spiegel and the post-punk sensibility of artists like Tubeway Army, Annie has embraced her love of meticulously crafting the perfect tone to match the emotion of a song. "Be it melancholy, longing, happiness or simple desire, there is no better way to explain my innermost world than by going past words and into the intuitive and visceral feeling that a particular sound can evoke.”

In songs such as the first single, "Hard To Be Still" (featured on an upcoming episode of Netflix series, Gypsy, starring Naomi Watts), Annie cuts back the layers to reveal a rawer version of the dreamy synth pop her band was famous for forging. Solo, Annie has opened for artists such as M. Ward and Neko Case, and will be playing a handful of shows this summer in support of the new record. Website here, Facebook here.

A gently understated musical soundtrack with delicate synths that ebb & flow alongside the dreamy swirling vocals on 'I Don't Want Your Love'. It's one of those tracks that gently crept up on me, and by the end of the piece, I was totally engrossed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Emily Rockarts - Inventor.

Background - Toronto singer songwriter Emily Rockarts is set to release a music video for her new single “Inventor” that features beautiful and captivating stop motion animation created by fellow musician Matthew Bailey.  Rockarts drew inspiration from the great Leonardo Da Vinci. “He was an incredible artist, but also a brilliant scientist, who seemed to balance being a dreamer with being a realist.”

Rockarts can relate to the struggle of creating that balance. “This idea relates to my feelings about creating and innovation in art as well as any field: technology, medicine, engineering. All of our great art, inventions and buildings didn’t exist, until they did. Unless you take a chance and try to create something from nothing, you’ll never have the opportunity to see what is possible.”

On her upcoming 26 date Canadian tour, Rockarts and her band featuring Dan Rougeau (guitar), Soren Nissen (bass), and Ian Wright (drums) will continue to push boundaries with their live performances to make each performance a unique experience.  “I feel so lucky to have such accomplished musicians playing with me,” says Rockarts. “No two shows are the same, because of their uninhibited ability to reinterpret the music on a nightly basis. We're constantly reacting to each other.” Tour dates on Beehive Candy's tour page, website here.

Beautiful vocals and a gentle piano background ensure 'Inventor' gets off to a notable start. Slowly building from there, the song grows in character and is just so full of charm.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Frankie Rose - Trouble.

Background - After spending years as a major presence in Brooklyn’s thriving music scene, Frankie Rose relocated to her familial home of Los Angeles for 18 months with the intention of establishing yet another moment in her storied indie rock métier. Gradually, she found herself short on sleep, funds and optimism. "I moved to LA, drama ensued and I ended up on a catering truck. I was like, how can this be my life after being a touring musician and living off of music. I had really lost my way and I thought I was totally done."

Towards the end of her time spent in Los Angeles, Frankie reached out to Jorge Elbrecht (Tamaryn, Gang Gang Dance, Violens) and began sketching what became the basic outline of what felt like a new album. Then, rather fortuitously, Frankie ended up back in Brooklyn with the realization that "in the end, I’m on my own. I have to do these things on my own."

The months that ensued meant basically working with no budget and finding ways to record in-between days. This time enabled Frankie to experiment musically with a variety of people that ultimately changed the way she worked. "I got a lot of input from people like Dave Harrington (Darkside), who was helpful reconstructing the songs, adding dynamics and changing up the rhythms."

The result of this existential odyssey is Cage Tropical, Frankie’s 4th album. It is awash with vintage synths, painterly effects pedals, upside down atmosphere and reverberating vocals. It evokes a new wave paranormality of sorts that drifts beyond the songs themselves. "My references aren’t just music," says Frankie, "I love old sci-fi. They Live is one of my favorite movies ever, same with Suspiria. 80’s sci-fi movies with a John Carpenter soundtrack, with silly synths – that makes it into my file, to the point that I’ll write lyrics incorporating that kind of stuff. It’s in there."

"I feel like I am finally free from worrying about an outcome. I don’t care. I already lost everything. I already had the worst-case scenario. When that happens, you do become free. In the end, it’s about me rescuing myself via having this record." Website here, Facebook here.

'Trouble' is one of ten tracks on the forthcoming Cage Tropical album. It's typical of the quality of the new song collection, where creative ideas take the music in a variety of directions, and result in fresh and often vibrant hook laden tracks. Well worth checking out.
