Skinny Lister - Romanie - Alice Costelloe - Adam Goldberg (The Goldberg Sisters) - Bino Bames

Skinny Lister - Tumbling Into Something.

Whetting appetites for their upcoming shows, the Folk Punk legends have prepared a brand new video for ‘Tumbling Into Something' Taken from their invigorating 2025 release ‘Songs From The Yonder’, amidst an album full of mostly up-tempo madness, “Tumbling Into Something” is the moment of calm that allows its listeners to catch their breath.

Of the track, Dan Heptinstall shares: “I always feel Lorna’s voice shines on our ballad style tracks, and this track lends itself particularly well to her voice. It’s an optimistic song about tumbling fearlessly forward into life while acknowledging its beauty. It’s about surrendering to the uncertainties of life, and embracing the excitement of the ride. It’s also about new beginnings and second chances.”

Offering a more ambient and atmospheric arrangement than fans might usually expect from a Skinny Lister staple, the hallmark instruments are still all present and correct, albeit in soothing form. “The drums are played with bare hands rather than sticks, and the accordion in this case is used more to add mood than melody, played almost like a synth pad – it leans towards something that sounds a little more ‘Vangelis’ than traditional folk” adds Dan.

‘Tumbling Into Something’ follows the seafaring ‘Yorkshire Belle’, the fervent ‘Plough On’, and swaggering drinking song ‘Set Us Straight’ among the singles plucked from their acclaimed 2025 album. Teeming with themes of seafaring, travelling and drinking, ‘Song From The Yonder’ is a riotous, feel-good listen that already feels right at home in the Skinny cannon.

Romanie - I Won’t Yell.

Romanie shares her triumphant new single ‘I Won’t Yell’ along with news of her upcoming album It’s Not That Funny, set for release on Feb 20 via Community Music. New single ‘I Won’t Yell’ arrives as a declaration of defiance. Originally stemming from a folk song Romanie had written years earlier, ‘I Won’t Yell’ was co-produced with Adam Hyde (Peking Duk, Keli Holiday) and Tom Stell (Golden Features), reworked during a 3 day co-writing session in Sydney. Speaking to the process, Romanie shares, “We turned this small acoustic song upside down into this powerful statement, keeping basically all the lyrics and giving them a new meaning.

The song is about not being heard as a woman: oftentimes we get called ‘too much’ or ‘too loud’ with the result of keeping our emotions to ourselves, or not speaking up about the things that we want to. ‘I Won’t Yell’ was a fun song to make: letting go of my constant self judgement with the nudge of Tom and Adam, who let me yell in the vocal booth.”

Multi-award-winning Naarm/Melbourne-based artist Romanie returned earlier this year with acclaimed singles ‘Uh Oh’ and ‘When Will We Lose Hope?’. In addition she signed off the summer by making her mark on Europe, supporting grentperez in Brussels and Gordi in Antwerp before joining pals Olivia Jane Bolmat and SHERÓSY  on their ‘Girls Tour’ stopping in London,, Manchester and Scotland.

‘I Won’t Yell’ is the third single lifted from Romanie’s forthcoming album, It’s Not That Funny. It marks a significant progression from her Australian Music Prize-nominated debut album Are We There Yet? As the new record showcases a transformation in Romanie’s worldview and artistry through embracing contradiction: finding light in the moments of darkness, hope in the face of adversity.

Alice Costelloe - Damned If You Do.

London singer-songwriter Alice Costelloe has unveiled new single 'Damned If You Do' - the latest preview of her highly anticipated debut album 'Move On With The Year', out 6th February 2026 via Moshi Moshi Records.

Interrogating the crossroads between art and adulthood, 'Damned If You Do' reflects on the looming rituals of marriage, motherhood, and the idea of giving oneself away. Unfolding through warm organ tones, plaintive guitar lines and rumbling synths, Costelloe's crystalline vocals let the questions sit open rather than solved: "Would I do it for love / Do it for you / Give my body up / For something new."

On the release of her new single, Alice said: “I was thinking a lot about the next phase of life as I wrote this album. Cocooned away and focused purely on making music, I felt more creatively fulfilled than I had in a long time. It made me question how this freedom could exist if I followed a more conventional path. To prioritise domesticity and stability or to prioritise creative ambition – either choice felt like sacrificing something essential.

“I was also coming out of a period of keeping my head above water while navigating life with an addict parent, and I realised that whatever decisions I made next, I needed to be careful not to lose myself. ‘I don’t see myself all dressed in white / standing in the shadows’ is as much about my claustrophobia around the altar and its traditions as it is about resisting the pressure to embody some ideal of feminine virtue – to be expected to sacrifice your own life in service of another.”

Adam Goldberg (The Goldberg Sisters) - Our Kind of Love.

Today, NY-based actor/director/musician Adam Goldberg announces When the Ships of My Dreams Return, the upcoming album from his moniker The Goldberg Sisters that will be released on February 20, 2026. This is the fifth album from The Goldberg Sisters, the current musical project from the multi-hyphenate who has starred in films like Saving Private Ryan, Dazed and Confused and 2 Days in Paris and appeared in TV shows like Friends, Entourage, Fargo and The Equalizer. The LP marks the first time where Goldberg has performed, recorded and mixed the entirety of the album on his own. Also today, he released the album’s first single “Our Kind of Love,” a track about the complexities of how to present love in an increasingly digital age.

On the new single, Goldberg shares: “‘Our Kind of Love’ was the first song I began recording for the album, before I realized that I was recording another album. It had been several years, and between two kids and my day job, I had neither the time nor frankly the inspiration to make another record or even another song really. But I had begun making some guitar loops, a practice which has often led to songs, and this track was born out of one of those sessions. It began simply with the looped phrase ‘Our kind of love’ — ostensibly a love song — but as I fleshed it out became a song about some people’s presentation of love, especially in the context of social media. This theme ended up recurring throughout the process of writing what in fact became a full album.”

His first LP since 2018’s Home: A Nice Place to Visit, When the Ships of My Dreams Return is his most expansive album yet in terms of style and lyrical themes, showcasing his ability to channel his energy into exploring unfamiliar terrain and re-emerging with a musical map that charts thrilling new paths for himself. And while Goldberg had played most everything on his last couple of records as well as self-recording several demos, he had never done it all entirely alone until now.

Bino Bames - Gathers No Moss (EP).

20-year-old multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and creative visionary Bino Bames releases the 'Gathers No Moss' EP, alongside emotive visuals for new single ‘'Let You Go’' today.

With a string of standout singles already released from the EP; including 'Cocktail Princess’', 'Isolated' and 'Nothing's Real'; Bino Bames has earned tastemaker support from Clash, DIY, Wonderland, Cosmopolitan and The Line of Best Fit to name a few, and built a growing cult following in the process. Honing his craft across the collection of 8 tracks, Bino reveals his unique voice as an artist stepping into his own, instilled in the narrative arc of his songs with a cinematic edge.

Serving as both a closing chapter and a new beginning, 'Let You Go' is a euphoric collision of emotion and relentless energy, an anthem of heartbreak and self-discovery. Shot over two sessions between London & Spain, the 'Let You Go' music video is art directed by Bino himself, and directed by Bino's long term collaborator and creative director Jorge Foley, bringing a raw grunge inspired aesthetic channelling the track's emotional chaos.

'I'd just come off the Punchbag University Tour when Jorge flew in from Spain,' Bino recalls. 'We'd shot half the video a month earlier, but those last few days together were when everything finally clicked. I wrote this song five years ago, back in Vegas. Since then, I've lived through more relationships, more heartbreaks, more growing up, and all of that changed what the song means to me. After performing it so many times on tour, it’s taken on a new life. The video feels like the moment it finally caught up.'

Romanie - When Will We Lose Hope?

This week Melbourne-based Romanie shares her emotive new single ‘When Will We Lose Hope?’ Keeping hope alive against the odds, Romanie’s new single is a sincere and raw offering. Effortless vocals and reflective lyricism share a haunting reminder of the bigger pitcher. When Will We Lose Hope? is an honest and beautiful output, here to gently offer perspective. Sharing more, Romanie said; ‘I wrote this song in January 2024 during Adrienne Lenker’s School of Song workshop.

I was feeling kind of lost in the world, wondering if making music was the right thing to do in a time of turmoil, reading the news and looking at villains ruling the world and destroying the planet. During the first lecture, Adrienne talked about having to let yourself feel things in order to write music and be curious. I cried during that lecture, and felt so inspired knowing that so many other beautiful songwriters were experiencing the same thing and suddenly writing songs and making music felt like the only straight forward thing to do.

It’s a really sad song, but I really want to emphasize the element of hope in it too, because it’s important to keep loving and caring for community. When Will We Lose Hope? is Romanie’s second single to arrive this year. It follows ‘Uh Oh’ which was released in May marking a new era for the artist, one that blends grit and grunge with softness and emotion in equal measure.

Amanda Pascali - Cleopatra.

Rising singer-songwriter Amanda Pascali shares her new single "Cleopatra," a powerful ode to resilience, identity, and the strength of women who break barriers across borders. Inspired by Pascali’s mother, an immigrant who arrived in 1980s New York City and built a life and career from the ground up, "Cleopatra" fuses Arabic melodies, Spanish guitar, spaghetti Western soundscapes, and world folk elements to reflect the multicultural mosaic of her story.

"Cleopatra" follows Pascali's previous singles, including a song of unrequited love, "Wake Up, Baby!," and an ode to all-consuming love, "Amuri." Her new album Roses and Basil was produced by acclaimed singer-songwriter and fellow Texan Robert Ellis and will release on September 12.

"'Cleopatra' is a bilingual, genre-blending tribute to my mother — who was born in Egypt and journeyed to America by way of France — and to every woman who has had to fight to make her story heard," Pascali explains. “The song is inspired by my mother’s story, but it’s also about my responsibility as her first-born daughter to carry that story forward. The repeated line ‘I was left with the pen in my hand’ speaks to the urgency I feel, especially in this moment, to tell these stories.”

She continues, "I have had to convince many people that it is compelling to tell stories where women are at the forefront. Today, I am sharing this one: I wrote this song about my mom but it’s also about me, and every woman who came before me. In every story, there are pieces of the writer that seep in. This song celebrates my relationships, past, present, and future with the most important women in my life: my sisters, my mom, and my grandmothers in heaven. We are the main characters of this story.”

Living Hour - Waiter.

Winnipeg band Living Hour releases "Waiter" this week, the second single from their fourth album Internal Drone Infinity, out October 17 via Keeled Scales.

Lyricist Sam Sarty writes: "This is a song about people who wait. Wait-ers. I find myself waiting without knowing what I’m waiting for. I wait in all these liminal spaces: hotels, parking lots, and even relationships. This song reflects on two relationships where I spent a lot of time waiting; waiting to feel something or to see what would happen."

The song is an ode to time passing after a relationship, becoming self-sufficient after a period of emotional intimacy. Sarty continues: "This song feels like a tribute to all that energy that pours out of me when I’m yearning for someone to be closer to me, but it also acts as a realization that I’ll always have myself. It’s a relief, like feeling that the wait is over."

Anchored by Sarty’s vivid lyricism, shaped by years as a projectionist conjuring stories in a dark theater, the band explores the quiet magic hidden in everyday life. With wistful vocals, textural distortion, and poetic detail, Living Hour capture the ache of memory, the mess of feeling, and the beauty in what remains.

flipturn - Burnout Days (feat. Old Mervs).

flipturn, "one of the most innovative bands out now" are set to bring their acclaimed album Burnout Days to UK audiences this November, with a run of dates that includes their biggest London show to date at Kentish Town Forum on November 14th, and an appearance at Live At Leeds City Festival.

The announcement comes as the band unveils a special collaboration with Old Mervs on a new version of their title track "Burnout Days", released today (August 20th). The collaboration emerged from the bands' recent sold-out afterparty performance together at Park West in Chicago following Lollapalooza.

"We've always thought 'Burnout Days' was a summer song, and since we will be coming over during the Australian summer we thought they would be the perfect fit," says flipturn frontman Dillon Basse. Old Mervs' Dave House adds, "We are absolutely stoked with this collab with flipturn! 'Burnout Days' is such a fun song and playing around in the studio with it was a blast."

Released earlier this year via Dualtone Records, the 12-song collection Burnout Days finds the indie-rock powerhouse returning as sonic architects, harnessing their impressive knack for hooks, shimmering soundscapes and "nostalgia-inducing lyrical delivery" (Uproxx). The album has been lauded for its "rays of optimism" (SPIN), "irresistible hooks" (Consequence) and "infectious energy" (Luna Collective).

Lydia Luce - Quiet.

Nashville-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lydia Luce shares "Quiet," the latest single from her new album Mammoth, which releases October 30. A much-needed antidote to the relentlessness of the world around us, the soft-pedaled keys and mellow strings mirror the feeling of sitting in harmonious silence with someone you love. The song is accompanied by an acoustic live video performed with Lockeland Strings.

“'Quiet' is a song for my partner and I," Luce says. "‘Quiet' is about the ability to sit with someone and not have to say anything. To be able to soak up their presence and find contentment, joy and peace in the silence. We are about to have our first kiddo and it's something we've been trying for, for the last year and a half. Everything is about to change in our house and we are truly cherishing these final months at home, just the two of us and our dog."

Recorded in just one week at Peter Gabriel’s celebrated Real World Studios, Mammoth was produced with longtime creative collaborator Jordan Lehning (Kacey Musgraves, Joy Oladokun, Caitlin Rose), with whom Luce runs the Nashville-based string collective Lockeland Strings. These songs are inspired by the ambient compositions of Luce's solo Lethe music project, as well as the natural surroundings of the UK countryside where Mammoth was recorded, with sounds of blowing winds and morning birdsong woven into the instrumentation. Gone are the boisterous elements of her previous releases, now replaced by something more quietly contemplative that represents this new chapter of tranquility. From the sweeping title track to the dreamy "Wisteria" and the tender lullaby "Florence," Mammoth is bound by a common thread of self-love, hope and acceptance, along with a fervent belief in the serendipity of the last few years.

Loveland Duren - Romanie - Lunar Vacation - Whiskey in the Pines

Loveland Duren - Tumbledown Hearts / Within Crying Distance.

“Tumbledown Hearts” really is a song about two people finding a way to celebrate life together in spite of turmoil, misunderstandings, disappointments, and a life lived long enough to know that while rose colored glasses may not be reality, we can sure put them on if we choose to.  It’s about two creative romantics on a journey, literally, but also about sharing companionship and comfort in an adult world with another battered but hopeful and optimistic soul.

The lyrics tell the tale. You’ve heard the expression “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade!”  We just found another way to tell a relatable story about people doing exactly that…having fun and sharing affinity for each other, with each other.  When our thoughts are shining just a bit too brightly on all our fears, we say “Snap off the light immediately; leaving the outside suspended;” put the past behind you, and share “another toast for what’s up ahead!”   You can “hypnotize” yourself, so to speak, and let love have prominence; enjoy and celebrate the beauty of the moment. —Vicki Loveland & Van Duren , 2021

“Ringing guitars, cracking drums and a “get up and dance” melodic bass line announce the new fetching pop rocker, “Tumbledown Hearts,” the opener on Loveland Duren’s new album, Any Such Thing (Edgewood Recordings). Co-written by the Memphis duo Vicki Loveland and Van Duren, the track was cut and mixed at famed Royal Studios by Adam Hill, who also plays lead guitar on the song. Vicki and Van’s powerful vocals alternate verses, then join together on the choruses and bridge; weaving a tale of two worldly wise companions on a very late night “falling sideways around the room.” Familiar and new all at once, “Tumbledown Hearts” sets the stage for the inspiring listening experience that is Any Such Thing”

Romanie - Stranger In My Skin.

Melbourne based Romanie’s new single is her most personal and vulnerable song to date. The track captures her feelings whilst enduring Melbourne’s extended lock down last year. Produced by long time collaborators,  James Seymour (Feelds, Merpire) at Small Time Group, and mastered by Isaac Barter, ‘Stranger In My Skin’ is a song that Romanie has been playing while busking for a while, “where people have stopped in their tracks to come tell me how relevant it feels to them. I hope this song can help anyone that has a bad day to allow themselves to feel sad and know that another good day will come too.”

Speaking more about the inspiration for her new single, Romanie says,“Stranger In My Skin is a song about feeling lost and alienated from the outside world and yourself. I wrote it during the second lockdown in Melbourne last year - a period in which I felt very alone and very far away from home (literally as well). I had some really bad days where I wouldn't take good care of my mental health and this song was written the first time after I had picked up my guitar again. I was really angry with myself for feeling that way and let myself slip.”

Romanie’s forthcoming sophomore EP ‘Little Big Steps’ explores Romanie’s personal story and journey from Belgium to Australia so far.  It’s about being in motion and growing as a person and musician.

Led by a pair of dreamy indie-pop singles ‘I’m Anything But Myself Around You’ and ‘Fake Friends’, Romanie’s full length EP is marked by its diversity of themes and tempos, yet anchored together with the consistency of the ideas of transition, self-reflection and authentic songwriting.

Lunar Vacation - Mold.

Lunar Vacation have announced their debut album Inside Every Fig Is a Dead Wasp today with a brightly-colored psychedelic music video for "Mold" (directed by Rach Rios Rehm).

Produced by Daniel Gleason of Grouplove, Lunar Vacation’s upcoming full-length is a vibrant offering of melodious guitars, propulsive rhythm, and fitful, gripping vocals that take on the contemporary strain of coming of age. The album boasts a celebratory sound, a reckless sense of ecstasy specific to youth, and rock-solid friendship. Drawing from early influences like Rilo Kiley and Tame Impala, and landing closer to contemporary favorites like Alvvays and Slow Pulp, Lunar Vacation make rich music replete with bliss.

The album will be released October 29 and is available for pre-order on pale pink vinyl (exclusive to Keeled Scales and the band), black vinyl, CD, digital, and cassette.

The band's hometown record store, Criminal Records in Atlanta, will also carry an exclusive pressing, with UK retailers Rough Trade and Recordstore.co.uk carrying deluxe editions with signed prints.

Whiskey in the Pines - Hotel Bar.

Armed with the prowess of longtime alt-country storytellers and a heartland rock style built over years on the road, Tallahassee band Whiskey in the Pines is entering into the latest chapter of their careers with their new track, “Hotel Bar.” To inaugurate their latest work, the band returned to a longtime fan favorite, newly pulled from the archive and reworked into a moving paean to hotel bars across the country.

The track came about as a combination of, “Mexican food, copious amounts of alcohol and perhaps a little magic,” as frontman and songwriter David Lareau describes with his characteristic self-effacing humor. Born out of reflections on life on the road, the song came to Lareau in a strike of inspiration while on vacation. Sitting at an Orlando hotel bar, fragments of lyrics came together in his head and were quickly transferred onto a nearby bar napkin. There they sat until Lareau, fresh off the night shift, stumbled into the song’s Rolling Stones tuning at his home studio. With the assistance of a little whiskey and a spliff, he began piecing the track together.

As Lareau describes, he’s “a rock n’ roll kid that ended up writing singer-songwriter songs.” After signing his first record deal at 19, he’s spent over two decades crafting music to move you, paired with a rebel core. Few better descriptors apply to “Hotel Bar,” with its dogged tales from the road and its lonely lyricism. Over forlorn fingerpicked guitar, Lareau tributes hotel bars and their solitary occupants, finding beauty in his fellow lonely faces. Lareau himself is far from alone, though; backed by Kelly Chavers on guitar, Aaron Halford on bass, and Erik Wutz on drums, the band builds into an emotive climax as they pose a simple question: “How does it feel when you’re away and on your own?”

Aeroplane Mode - Jillette Johnson - PEP - Romanie - Elise Davis

Aeroplane Mode - In A State.

Melbourne dream-pop 4 piece Aeroplane Mode are ready to hit the skies again with their sophomore single and videoclip for 'In A State'.

Mastered by Joe Carra (Babe Rainbow, San Cisco) the band have been able to create their own take on the dream-pop genre with rich jangle guitars, sweeping synths and honest lyricism. 'In A State' was inspired by the notion of growing up and the acceptance that comes with embracing change. As the band's bassist and songwriter Carlos explains: "The main concept that ‘In A State’ explores is that of a typical boy-meets-girl scenario, and the butterflies associated with a first crush". Exploring different vocal aesthetics and soundscapes, the single leans into a more upbeat tune and borrows the vocals of band's guitarist Brandon. "It is our mission with this single to make clear to our audience that we have two frontpeople in the band." continues Carlos.

Releasing alongside a video clip, the video features a series of the band playing amongst different colour washes, between playful scenes of lead singer Brandon, that embraces the band's aesthetic of nostalgic vaporwave, full of soft and dreamy textures. Recorded at Red Door Studios in Collingwood and produced by Melbourne based creative Nick Bond.

Having only released the one single 'Settle Down', Aeroplane Mode caught the attention of notable industry figures including James Tidswell (Violent Soho) who released the song on his Domestic La La Record Club and Brae Fisher of Dear Seattle who has taken them on for management. Along with this the band have been played on TOPS on Triple J Unearthed and received national radio play on Triple J, as well as being added to Spotify Editorial playlist ‘fuzzy’.

Comprised of members of DIET, alongside the unique talents of frontpeople Sinead and Brandon, Aeroplane Mode is set to woo fans of #1 Dads, Hatchie and Beach House. So, turn your devices to Aeroplane Mode, kick back and enjoy this flight.

Jillette Johnson - Many Moons.

Jillette Johnson has released a celestial music video for her reflective single “Many Moons.” The track is off her latest album It’s a Beautiful Day and I Love You, which just released on February 12.

“‘Many Moons’ is a coming of age story, and a reflection on all the phases of my life so far,” explains Jillette. “I worked with the super talented Grant Claire to make a video that told the story of where I came from, where I am now, and where I believe I’m headed. I wanted to use lots of color and to make it feel like a spacey fever dream, where all these disparate worlds kind of collide into one.”

It’s a Beautiful Day and I Love You injects Jillette’s intimate, piano-written songs with irreverent lyrics, buoyant pop melodies and a shot of guitar-driven, alt-rock muscle. Produced by Joe Pisapia and written entirely by Jillette, the album has garnered praise from Rolling Stone, NPR Music, Refinery29, No Depression and more.

American Songwriter said "Boasting a series of mesmerizing melodies, [It’s a Beautiful Day and I Love You] begins with the eerie and elusive 'Many Moons' and subsequently negotiates its way through to songs that become even more effusive and expressive.” UNCUT adds, “her latest uses country as a springboard into '60s pop, '70s rock, and Noughties indie...It's an adventurous palette that suits her well.”

In late 2020, Jillette launched her original “Artist Brain” interview series, showcasing intimate acoustic performances and conversations with other artists. Streaming live on her Instagram every other Thursday, previous guests include Jaime Wyatt, Molly Parden, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Elle Varner, Maggie Rose, Katie Pruitt and Lillie Mae. Upcoming episodes will feature Andrew Combs and Grace Weber, with more guests to be announced.

PEP - Like a Movie / Run.

PEP the NYC-based nostalgic pop group featuring frontwoman Karys Rhea (former drummer of Starlight Girls) is sharing a surprise two-video farewell for singles “Like a Movie” and “Run”, self-released Friday, February 26. This goodbye marks the end of a six-year run for a locally beloved band and celebrates music born out of Brooklyn venues in the 2010s.

“Like a Movie” is a haunt of doo-wop dream sauce, equal parts lovesick and buoyant. It comes with a silky video (dir. Dorian Duvall), shot with Rhea’s actual ex-boyfriend, going through the motions of a contrived love story fantasized and divine. “Run” is a glittering and joyful good time, previously released in 2017 but now with a brand new video, composed of careful quick harmonies, jangly splashes of color, and extremely catchy bass lines.

PEP originally began as the solo project of Starlight Girls drummer Karys Rhea. In the fall of 2011, she started humming doo-wop and Mo-town style melodies while practicing monotonous drum rudiments for hours at a time. These drum parts and vocal melodies became the foundation for PEP’s debut album, … Presenting PEP!, released in 2017.

After years of settling into a tight-knit act, PEP says farewell this year with the release of a new single, “Like A Movie”. Their updated brand of 60s doo-wop (nu-wop…if you will), became a seven-piece live outfit with back-up singers and choreographed moves reminiscent of retro pop girl groups. PEP is celebrating with their goodbye, years of music built out of Brooklyn venues in the 2010s, and a culture unabashedly retro but with a dreaminess that captured the hearts of listeners for a feel-good nostalgia PEP created with their tunes, fits, and fun.

Romanie - I'm Anything (But Myself Around You).

Melbourne based Romanie unveils her intimate new single  Anything (But Myself Around You). Produced by James Seymour (Feelds, Merpire) at Small Time Group, and mastered by Isaac Barter, the track was written in February 2020 right before Covid changed our lives significantly.

Speaking about the inspiration for  Anything (But Myself Around You), Romanie says, The song is about how everyone wants to show their best selves to social media, at work, even to their close circle of family and friends. We always try our best to be happy but I think sometimes we also just need to be a bit more real and call out if it's not okay. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where we want to speak out against someone, but we don't really dare to break the peace.
Noting names like Lucy Rose, Julia Stone and Phoebe Bridgers as inspirations, Romanie opens her heart in her songs unveiling melancholic and sometimes personal topics of moving from her home country of Belgium to her new base in Melbourne.

I made the big trip across the ocean to Melbourne in October 2019 to start a new adventure at the other side of the world. Leaving everything behind that felt familiar - insecurity and overthinking were my first few friends I unpacked from my suitcase. I had to start over what I had left behind in Belgium (playing shows regularly, releasing my first EP Feelings, having a good network and friends). Seeing all the creative energy and talent in Melbourne, I soon got a bit overwhelmed and started to worry I would never find my feet in the music industry. This creative energy however, made me want to work hard and practice my craft to grow and figure out where I want to go with my music. I was very lucky to land in a network where I am inspired every day. I think I've never written as many songs as I did in the past year. - Romanie

Elise Davis - Empty Rooms.

Nashville-based singer/songwriter Elise Davis released a new song “Empty Rooms” from her forthcoming album Anxious. Happy. Chill. out on April 16 via Tone Tree. The song premiered on Apple Music’s Record Bin Radio with Kelly McCartney over the weekend and was featured by The Boot, who called the album "...a 10-song record about falling in love and changing perspectives." Last month, Davis announced the new collection with “Yellow Bed,” following the release of three singles in 2020 (“Ladybug,” “The Grid,” and “Flame Color”).

“I started writing this song right before the pandemic, around February 2020,” explains Davis. It began as a reflection of how I have spent my whole adult life. I began writing songs when I was 12 years old and never looked back. I've played in many empty rooms, coffee shops, hotel lobbies, restaurants, dive bars - I've also played in front of thousands of people in sold out clubs, theaters, music festivals. At the end of the day, regardless of the ups and downs, I know that playing music is what makes me feel whole and how I want to spend my time on this earth.  After writing this the pandemic became in full swing and the reality of playing live music completely changed. It is interesting because now this song has added layers of meaning. Rooms all over the world that are usually full, are now empty rooms.”

Anxious. Happy. Chill. was recorded just days after wrapping her honeymoon in Arizona, where she finished writing the album in the Sonoran Desert outside Tucson. Davis recorded the album with producer Teddy Morgan (Carl Broemel) at his studio in Nashville, TN. With the Covid-19 pandemic already in full swing, Davis and Morgan worked together for a month while maintaining their physical distance, communicating through the glass windows of the studio's isolation booths and playing the majority of the instruments themselves. Drummer Fred Eltringham (Sheryl Crow, The Wallflowers) joined them for a single day to lend the album its unique, percussive pulse.

“Making this album was a unique experience to say the least. Normally, I go in with a band and we all sit around and play through songs. We hang out and have drinks, making it a social and creative experience. This time my producer and I were never in the same room. We wore masks to get to our spots in the studio, then spoke through glass on headphones,” explains Davis. “For 8 years I wrote for publishing companies in Nashville that set me up on scheduled co-writes. Those experiences helped me grow as a writer and I learned a lot. But to write this album almost entirely on my own brought me back to my roots. At the end of the day I prefer writing on my own more than anything, and I got back in touch with that again. I also played guitar on most of this album which I don't usually do. I usually hire guitar players whose skills are better than mine. But, me playing on the recordings makes them feel different. I hear myself in them more. This album is about love, success/failure, dislike of social media, aging, summertime, and most importantly, it's honest. I am so happy to be sharing my third child, Anxious. Happy. Chill., with the world.”
