Rosscoe Frantz - Raw and Bitter.

There is something acutely uncomfortable in being human, in loving and learning to let go, and WA-based indie folk-rock artist Rosscoe Frantz masterfully captures those sentiments in his latest single, ‘Raw and Bitter’, out yesterday Friday, March 20. In 2025, Rosscoe Frantz released his debut EP 'Share House', adding another notch to his belt. He has supported the likes of Sarah Blasko, Boy and Bear, and Pete Murray, performed at Blues at Bridgetown Festival, sold out his EP launch at 459 Bar in Perth, and landed on Spotify and Apple Music playlists.

Building on that momentum, ‘Raw and Bitter’ sees Rosscoe Frantz further the terrain he has already begun to map out. Softly strummed guitar with a healthy dose of reverb and grit open the track, as the sleepy arrangement wakes up, bringing in elements of percussion and lead guitar. Rich vocals cut daggers with Frantz’s emotive lyrics; the refrain ‘everything turned raw and bitter’ sings out across the musical room, breaking like a teenage heart losing their first lover.

Elaborating on the meaning behind the tune, Rosscoe Frantz says: "‘Raw and Bitter' is a stark, intimate reflection on the parts of love people rarely talk about. The moment when a relationship is strong, the feeling is real, but the future isn’t necessarily aligned. The song explores the tension between deep affection and quiet doubt, where love coexists with confusion, and staying means asking the hardest questions. It’s a song about holding something precious in your hands and not knowing whether to fight for it or let it go."

Serena Rose - Wild One.

Australian cinematic-psychedelic artist Serena Rose shares her new single “Wild One.” Drawing on her background in film scoring and composition, Serena’s music is led by mood and texture rather than conventional narrative, focusing on atmosphere, stillness and emotional detail.

Before launching her solo project in 2021, Serena studied Music and Audio and began working within film and screen composition — an influence that continues to shape her sound. Her recordings favour space and tone over density, combining slow-burn guitar work with restrained arrangements and a strong visual sensibility. Often compared to Mazzy Star, her work also reflects the expansive dynamics of artists such as Radiohead, John Frusciante and All Them Witches.

“Wild One” was written while living in the Byron Bay hinterland of eastern Australia and reflects the physical environment that surrounds her. Built around drifting guitar lines and minimal percussion, the track captures a quiet moment of reflection rather than a traditional song structure, prioritising feeling and place. Serena explains: “For this song I kept seeing the same setting — creeks, wet forest, fog after rain. It’s a calm, solitary space and I feel the music as being inside that landscape rather than describing it.”.

Written in a single burst of inspiration, the recording leans into natural space and restraint. Guitars stretch across the stereo field while subtle rhythmic movement anchors the arrangement, allowing the production to create a sense of physical environment rather than performance. With “Wild One,” Serena Rose continues to develop a sound that sits between psychedelic songwriting and cinematic composition, positioning her as a quietly distinctive voice within Australia’s emerging atmospheric and dream-leaning alternative scene.

Eidetic Dreams - Eidetic Dreams.

Helsinki-based dreampop duo Eidetic Dreams released their fifth single “Eidetic Dream” yesterday March 20 via All That Plazz. Building steadily from the Nordic indie underground, the band has gained traction through YleX support (including Nosteessa), praise from Soundi, and growing streaming visibility — their previous single “The Truth About My Fall”was featured on Spotify’s Breakthrough 2025 playlist and the global Fresh Finds editorial playlist.

Over the past year, Eidetic Dreams have performed at Finland’s leading showcase festivals, including Lost In Music and Mars Festival, while expanding their live audience beyond Helsinki. The new single further marks the band’s upward trajectory as they move towards their debut album, set for release in 2026.

“Eidetic Dream” is also a defining moment for the duo by name and intent — a song that reflects the band’s core themes of memory, desire and uncertainty, captured in the line: “Was it all a dream, just an eidetic dream?” The track was mastered by two-time Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum mastering engineer Ryan Schwabe. Eidetic Dreams will next perform live at Kult, Kulttuuritalo Helsinki, on March 27 with Tinyhawk & Bizzarro.

Hrishikesh Hirway - Rollercoaster feat. Fenne Lily & Uwade.

Songwriter and podcast host Hrishikesh Hirway releases second single "Rollercoaster" (ft. Uwade, Fenne Lily) from his upcoming record In the Last Hour of Light, due out April 24 on Keeled Scales. The album is his first full-length release under his own name, marking his return to making records after more than a decade focused on audio storytelling through his acclaimed podcast Song Exploder.

“Rollercoaster” is a meditation on longing and displacement, built from two images that lodged themselves in Hirway’s imagination: the buffalo of Catalina Island, brought there by ship in the early 20th century and stranded ever since, and the vision of someone riding a rollercoaster alone. Co-written with Fenne Lily and Uwade, the track finds Hirway placing himself back in Massachusetts, feeling out of place and full of dreams he can’t yet name, asking whether you can miss somewhere you’ve never been. Both Lily and Uwade contribute vocals, as does Ken Pomeroy, their combined voices lifting the song toward a feeling of lightness and air, a counterpoint to the loneliness at its center.

“I started to think of the image of a person riding a rollercoaster on their own,” says Hirway. “It struck me as terribly lonely because of its juxtaposition against a supposedly fun thing, and that juxtaposition felt deeply, painfully familiar.” Hirway has also confirmed the special guests who will join him on a set of upcoming tour dates, including Adam Scott in New York, Jason Mantzoukas in Los Angeles, Samin Nosrat in San Francisco, Josh Malina in Chicago, Min Jin Lee in Boston, and more.

Kyle Morgan - Where To Start.

"I never stopped to think it through / I just got into the car"... Opens "Where to Start" - the first single from Kyle Morgan's upcoming LP Ghost of a Problem and drops us right into the uncertainty of and resignation to a fate largely out of our control. Morgan imbues his characters, even when sung in first person, with a lived in familiarity that reminds me of some the best instincts of John Prine and Tom Waits. The relatively slow back beat builds in an unhurried pace, stopping to luxuriate on the baritone sturdiness of Morgan's main guitar melody.  It's a beautiful intro to the record. Would love to hear your thoughts and coordinate coverage of the single or the album out 22 May.

""Where to Start" is an expression of resignation in the face of the uncertainty of life and what the future holds.  When your longing for clarity is met with complete silence, but for the whining of tires on mile after mile of an empty highway.  And when having come to a dead end, the only choice is to keep driving, hoping this time the road will lead somewhere new."

Sharing new music during times like this feel like a relief. Some kind of tangible proof that the world keeps spinning amidst the ongoing insanity of the first 2 full months of 2026. I am happy to share the newest album by Kyle Morgan - a record that after a single spin feels thoroughly lived in. The first solo follow up after 2022's Younger at Most Everything (Team Love Records) and on the heels of the well-received 2025 collaboration with Tamar Korn ("pitch-perfect acoustic performances" - Bandcamp Daily).

Kyle Morgan's world-weary delivery imbues the characters, missed connections and snaphots of uncertainty with a ghost of a possible optimism - even in the midst of an OCD spiral. Baroque strings, straight-forward rock and sturdy folk are replete Ghost of a Problem - haunting bathrooms, dive bars and close calls that populate this record.

bauhofer - Move Mountains.

“Move Mountains,” is the new single by bauhofer from Wollerau, Switzerland. On this track, the singer/songwriter embraces a more melancholic and gospel-inspired tone.

With the EP “The River Seine,” released last autumn, and his distinctive Southern-rock blend of rock, blues, and country, bauhofer achieved international success. The title track reached a top position in the Euro Indie Music Charts—the charts of Europe’s most played and most popular indie music—and was broadcast for weeks by radio stations across Europe, the UK, the USA, and as far as Brazil.

With his latest release, “Move Mountains,” an emotionally charged track, the artist returns to piano and vocals alone. The song expresses the longing for a loved one who is far away, and the determination to overcome all obstacles to reach that person. The single was produced by Slade Templeton (Crimer, Crying Vessel) at Influx Studios in Bern.

Tanya Ransom - Clela Errington - Katy Broder - Mélanie Pain - Eidetic Dreams

Tanya Ransom - The Significance of Time (Album).

Tanya Ransom’s third full length studio album, The Significance of Time, is deeply evocative, blending her signature sound of alt-country and folk with quiet emotional intensity, the album was released yesterday.

Ransom’s vocals radiate both warmth and strength, weaving a delicate yet powerful narrative through all 10 tracks. The album features her all-West Australian creative team, helmed by co-producers James Newhouse (The Waifs, John Butler) on drums, percussion, electric guitars and some bonus backing vocals and Dave Mann adding depth and textures with his work on pedal steel, guitars and backing vocals. Tilly Kelleher accompanies on the vocal harmonies, alongside Tone Bourke (The Waifs, Eskimo Joe) on all things keys (piano, harmonium, rhodes, wurlitzer, synths) and Sam Liddon on Electric and Double Bass.

The finely crafted production reflects a quiet cinematic quality, inviting listeners into Ransom’s deeply personal stories. Exploring themes of grief, war, friendship, death, love, changing of seasons, letting go and trust. Woven together with the concept of significant moments in time. The album features Tanya’s latest single ‘Winter Song’ which earned a finalist position and was awarded an Honourable Mention in the Americana Category, in the International Songwriting Competition.

With over 15 years of experience on the Australian touring circuit, two previous independent albums and her last EP release, Ransom has captivated audiences from intimate venues to major festivals, sharing stages with icons like Missy Higgins,  John Butler and Boy and Bear. Her ability to weave raw emotion into her lyrics and deliver them with authenticity has drawn praise from music reviewers and audiences alike.

Clela Errington - Standing on the Platform.

With a voice timeless and true, Toronto singer-songwriter Clela Errington releases her second single, “Standing on the Platform.” Following closely on the heels of her excellent first single, “Full Moon Dark Time,” the new one is also drawn from the upcoming Walkin’ Each Other Home, Errington’s fifth studio album to date.

“Standing on the Platform” is a contemporary folk ballad written and performed by Errington. With cinematic scope and a reflective heart, it’s rooted in folk tradition, but carries jazz and blues sensibilities in Errington’s phrasing and harmonic openness.

Her warm, unhurried vocals float over acoustic guitar, piano, and subtle percussion, creating a quiet power and sense of anticipation — like standing at the threshold of change. The soft but insistent beat of brushes on the snare drum perfectly conveys the easy click-clack of the train's steel wheels as they run on the rails.

Errington's song echoes the spirit and tradition of Gospel train songs like The Impressions' "People Get Ready," Elizabeth Cotton's "Freight Train," and Woody Guthrie's "Bound for Glory." Like those eternal classics, "Standing on the Platform" gently suggests that the tracks are heading, slowly but surely, toward a promised land of peace and light.

Katy Broder - Could it be you.

"From the Dojo right onstage" the Landesspiegel recently wrote about Katy Broder. A fitting description, one might add – after all, the Liechtensteiner is also known as the coach of her country’s national karate team. With them, she competed at the European and World Championships this summer.

But things are also going well for Katy Broder as a musician: her last single “Gravitate To Me” was played on radio stations all over the world. In Switzerland, it was featured on the playlists of many relevant indie stations and was even praised by the French blog and radio LrDr as the “discovery of the week.”

On September 26, 2025, Katy Broder is following up: after just a few bars of the new anthemic single “Could it be you”, one is reminded of Roxette, Pink, or Avril Lavigne. At the same time, she manages to infuse the sound with contemporary flair. We think it’s another strong taste of the album, which will be released this fall!

Katherine “Katy” Broder (born November 8, 1973 in Chur) is a Swiss karateka, manager, and singer-songwriter based in Liechtenstein. She founded the Shotokan Karate Club Vaduz and, since 2025, has been president of the Karate Federation of the European Small States.

Mélanie Pain - Senden Daha Güzel.

It all began 15 years ago, in a scene worthy of a Wes Anderson film: Nouvelle Vague was performing in a pastel-colored, retro-style seaside town in Turkey. During the show, a fan stole one of Mélanie Pain’s shoes right off her foot on stage. A few weeks later, she received a package containing the shoe, an apology note, some Turkish delight... and a CD of Turkish music. That unexpected gift sparked her curiosity — and a lasting affection for Turkish culture. Since then, the idea of covering a song in Turkish never left her.

In early 2025, her friend Aslan, a French teacher in Istanbul, sent her “Senden Daha Güzel”, a rock anthem by the legendary band Duman. The song instantly reignited Mélanie’s desire to take on the challenge of singing in Turkish. As Melanie explains:

“This song reminds me of the grunge music from my teenage years — Nirvana, Pearl Jam... I wanted to interpret it in my own way, with softness and poetry. Singing in Turkish was a real challenge, but I was fascinated by the rhythm of the language. I loved it so much, I’m already working on more Turkish covers.”

Far from the raw energy and distorted guitars of the original, Mélanie offers an intimate and sensual rendition, carried by hypnotic bass, soft percussion, and sun-drenched fingerpicked guitar. And the cherry on top: a French version titled Aussi belle que toi, written by Mélanie herself, appears as the B-side of the single — a retro and elegant nod to the golden era of yéyé singers and 45s. Turkish and French versions below.

Eidetic Dreams - Spin.

Helsinki-based dreampop duo Eidetic Dreams already has a foot in the door of international indie recognition. Their previous single The Truth About My Fall was featured on Spotify’s global Fresh Finds playlist with over 1.2 million followers, and the band has been highlighted in Soundi as well as chosen as a YleX Nosteessa artist.

On Wednesday (September 24) Eidetic Dreams released their fourth single Spin—just one day before their appearance at Tampere’s Lost In Music festival. Spin reveals a lighter yet more guitar-driven side of the duo, centered around a bright Johnny Marr–inspired riff that brings fresh energy and pushes their sound into new territory.

Eidetic Dreams was formed in Helsinki when vocalist-songwriter Siiri Kähönen and guitarist-producer Antti Heikkilä began making music together. Kähönen’s delicate yet intense vocals and Heikkilä’s melodic guitar quickly found a common ground, complemented by modern production and electronic elements. The band’s name refers to vivid, lasting memories—exactly the kind of moods they aim to evoke with their music.

Avery Friedman - Joan and the Giants - Eidetic Dreams - Shura ft. Cassandra Jenkins - Shealagh Rose

Avery Friedman - Photo Booth / Flowers Fell.

Brooklyn-based artist Avery Friedman has announced her debut album, ‘New Thing,’ for release via Audio Antihero on April 18th. The album features James Chrisman (Sister. / CIAO MALZ) and Felix Walworth (Florist / Told Slant).

Previously, Friedman had always felt that songwriting was just something that other people did until she was pushed by a transcendent live music experience and a traumatic mugging to seek catharsis through music. Playing her first show in July 2024, she soon shared stages with h. pruz, Dead Gowns, and Sister., where she impressed the latter’s James Chrisman enough that he offered to record her debut album.

The result is ‘New Thing,’ a sonically deep and layered debut that sees Friedman explore her trauma and sexuality with a raw open-heartedness inspired by artists like Adrianne Lenker, Squirrel Flower, and Babehoven. Following "Flowers Fell," Friedman's acclaimed debut single, February 28th's "Photo Booth" is a punchy burst of shoegaze and indie music, both singles have impressed Beehive Candy and we really do look forward to the debut album.

“New Thing is a conduit for emotions too frenetic to hold on your own. This record is a collection of the first songs I’ve ever written, after many years of orbiting the music world, but denying myself my own musicianship. Many of these tracks were born of anxiety – from my turning to a guitar to externalize (and organize) a sense of chaos that otherwise felt trapped inside me. We recorded a bulk of it with a live band, as a means to maintain the raw energy at the center of the record. What results is a time capsule for a year of intense personal expansion in my life – and the layers of warmth, wonder, sensitivity and sharpness that come with growing.”  – Avery Friedman.

Joan and the Giants - Still Breathing.

Ahead of their very first international shows in Austin, Texas for SXSW, Joan & the Giants return with their first music of 2025: an emotional indie rock single, ‘Still Breathing’, which came out yesterday. Joan and the Giants' collections of accolades expanded exponentially in the past year. Having won Best Rock Song and Runner up Song of the Year at the 2024 WA Song of the Year Awards, touring along Australia’s east coast, playing Sydney's SXSW, and playing alongside P!NK and Tones and I at OPTUS Stadium, 2024 was a productive year, and 2025 is set up to be a fantastic follow-up as they head to the US for SXSW in March.

‘Still Breathing’ is a dreamy and emotional track. Born impromptu from a jam session, this is a free-flowing and heartfelt single and a true reflection of the love and passion that Joan & the Giants put into every song. With two tracks of guitar, a percussive track and melodic track, this song is imbued with an internal conflict. Its echoing instrumentals straddle the line of wistful pop and energetic rock. Frontwoman Grace Newton-Wordsworth’s voice is intoxicatingly authentic and leads the listener on an moving journey.

The emotion of this song comes from a very real place. This single marks the parting of frontwoman Grace Newton-Wordsworth and her long time partner, bandmate and songwriter, Aaron Birch after their nine-year relationship has come to an end. A tumultuous time for both of them, this is a product of their shared pain after their separation, and in that tragedy a passion is captured. This song acts as a farewell to Aaron as he and the band go their separate ways. Grace comments that:

“The lyrics really speak about an inner war, trying to fight for the people you once were but knowing you have to let it all go - “But some things are best kept in the past, and I know we weren’t built to last”.

Eidetic Dreams - The Truth About My Fall.

Helsinki’s rising dreampop duo Eidetic Dreams returns with The Truth About My Fall a lush, emotionally charged breakup anthem that blends ethereal soundscapes with a fresh pop-rock edge. Featured on Radio Helsinki and praised in Soundi, the band is making waves in the Nordic indie scene. Released via All That Plazz (home to Markus Krunegård, Lala Salama, moshimoshi), this track is their most direct and compelling yet.

The song captures the moment after a breakup when unspoken words finally surface—sometimes as sharp remarks, yet with a lingering sense of respect for what once was. "Breakups are full of contradictions and bittersweet emotions—they hurt, but they can also help us grow as people," says vocalist-songwriter Siiri Kähönen.

Writing the song was quick, but the arrangement took time. "We experimented with different approaches for over a year and a half before realizing that simplicity was the key. We stripped away anything unnecessary to keep the song’s intimacy intact," Kähönen explains. The track’s depth is built on lush vocal layers, an atmospheric synth, and a melodic guitar theme that ties it all together.

Shura - Richardson ft. Cassandra Jenkins.

British singer-songwriter and producer Shura shares her new single "Richardson" ft. New York singer-songwriter Cassandra Jenkins. It is the second single taken from her recently announced album I Got Too Sad For My Friends, to be released on May 30 via Play It Again Sam.

A lyric on “Richardson” cuts to the core of the album’s solitary feeling. “I got too down around my friends,” Shura sings over a laid-back groove adorned with soft guitar licks and flurries of keys. It was the first song written for the record, and it was also – by circumstance, but also fittingly – the first song she’s written at home alone on an acoustic guitar since she was a kid. Featuring Cassandra Jenkins, whose album An Overview on Phenomenal Nature was one of the few Shura could listen to during that period of high stress, the track brings her sadness full circle; Jenkins’ voice accompanying hers in lush harmony the same way it did back then.

Shura says: “I fell in love with Cassandra's record at a low point in my life. It felt like an armchair I could crawl into. It accompanied me on long walks I took around my apartment in Greenpoint. I always knew I wanted to work with Cassandra on something. After a few conversations it became obvious to the both of us that it had to be this song. That Cassandra would accompany me here. A song about walking, thinking, and trying to find comfort somewhere, as Cassandra’s voice accompanied me on those walks then.”

Cassandra Jenkins says: “I was drawn to Richardson because it captures a mood that's hard to place, in part because it's so much about place, and a kind of limbo we bring with us wherever we go. I love that this collaboration developed into a meta conversation between me and Shu about the ways we communicate with our loved ones when we are apart, whether by circumstance, time, or geography. It makes me think we were cosmic pen pals long before we ever met.”

Shealagh Rose - Safe in Our Silence (EP).

Shealagh Rose, a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter from Hamilton, Ontario, releases her captivating new EP, Safe in Our Silence, a collection of songs reflecting themes of vulnerability, growth, and emotional resilience.

The standout focus track, "Perth," is a transcendental and calming piece that celebrates the comfort found in deep, silent connections with loved ones. It embodies a hopeful sentiment, exploring the beauty of letting people into our lives despite the baggage we carry.

"Perth" was recorded in an intimate setting, with Shealagh tracking the piano at the music studio where she teaches, using rented Rodes mics. The process was a learning experience, pushing her to apply her knowledge of mic techniques in new ways. Contributions from friends like Murray Heaton (guitar on "Radio Silence"), Sam Goswell (drums on "Radio Silence"), Dan Minchom (bass on "Radio Silence"), and William Lamoureux (strings on "Games") recorded remotely, added rich textures to the EP.

The EP takes you on a journey. While the first three tracks deal with loss, apathy, loneliness, and bitterness, the last track, "Perth," turns a corner. It is a much more hopeful piece about letting people into our lives despite whatever baggage and scars we may have. – Shealagh Rose.
