Would-be-goods - White Birches - Posturing - Alex Little - Mind the Moon - Stephen Wilson Jr. - Winterpills

Would-be-goods - The Gallopers.

Danger lurks amid the lights of the funfair in the 1950s carousel whirl of 'The Gallopers', Would-be-goods brand new single out this week. The album 'Tears Before Bedtime' is out on 13 February 2026.

Tears Before Bedtime is the sparkling new album by the Would-be-goods, Jessica Griffin’s band of pop adventurers. Since The Camera Loves Me, their cult classic 1988 debut for the legendary él Records, they have blazed a musical trail through indie guitar pop, with a garage band edge and forays into other territories - glam rock, tango, French chanson… The result is unique and timeless.

The songs on Tears Before Bedtime balance delicacy and power. Perfect pop melodies are delivered in Jessica’s gorgeous and idiosyncratic voice. Her lyrics are intelligent and wry, wistful and witty. Every song tells a story, taking us on a journey through space and time, from belle époque Paris to a 1960s London biker café, from a riverbank in ancient Greece to a 1970s teenage bedroom.

White Birches - A New Reign (Album).

”A New Reign”, White Birches third album, is out now. Available on all music platforms as well as on CD and as a special edition white vinyl. We are so pleased to be able to feature this creative new album in full, having already shared two tracks in the last couple of months, in our opinion anyone remotely interested in the dark wave genre or seeking an introduction should give this duo a good listen, we are mightily impressed.

White Birches tell us ”It has been a long journey since When the Street Calls, but we have been working on new music the whole time. Now that we feel ready to release an album again, I want to believe that we have developed an even stronger expression. An identity that is unmistakably White Birches and that resonates and moves,” says Fredrik Jonasson.

Some background on White Birches who are described as "mixing alarming guitars and dissonant synthesizers with haunting pop melodies". The dark wave consists of Jenny Gabrielsson Mare, who handles vocals, guitar, and piano, and Fredrik Jonasson, who works with synths, drum machines, and keys. Known for their evocative songs and uncompromising live performances, the duo continues to push the boundaries of the genre, where alarming guitars and dissonant synths meet haunting pop melodies.

Posturing - Ephemera (Album).

Laura Durdey is an exceptionally talented songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, who began Posturing as a “bedroom project”. With “ephemera” she shows us that she’s also a magician. Just wait until the trumpet kicks in - it’ll give you chills. With “ephemera” she has created a joyous collection of songs, each composed with the care and skill of a master.

She describes the EP as "Despondent ballads from an optimist with themes of loss, nostalgia and forward motion.  Posturing combines traditional songwriting inspired by the likes of Carole King with a droned soundscape that cushions the record and emulates the noise of a busy brain."

Though some of the themes are darker in nature the musicianship and poetry keep even the saddest of the songs buoyant and uplifting. Each side of the five track EP has been curated for the listener to experience from start to finish with beautifully crafted interludes that carry one song into the next.

As a band, Posturing, offer a captivating live show, not least because of Laura’s stage presence. Oozing with musicality she harbours a deep, soulful voice with impeccable pitch and then there’s razor sharp wit wrapped up in a dazzling smile.

Alex Little - Spider in the Sink (EP).

Vancouver’s purveyor of melodic grit and garage-pop heart, Alex Little, releases her new EP Spider in the Sink on Light Organ Records, the indie-focused imprint of 604 Records launched by Jonathan Simkin. Fans of Wolf Alice, Sharon Van Etten, Blondie, The Preatures, and Amy Winehouse will find plenty to love in Little’s mix of raw emotion, soul, and fearless honesty. Written and performed with guitarist and partner Adam Sabla and produced by James Younger of Yukon Blonde, the five-song collection sharpens her sound into something rawer, leaner, and more self-possessed. It’s a record that drags fear into the light and finds melody in the mess, full of songs that pulse with defiance, reflection, and soul in equal measure.

Across Spider in the Sink, Little writes like someone who’s fought her way back to solid ground. “My brain is not a friend, it is a bad enemy,” she sings on the title track, confronting her own anxious cycles with clarity and dark humor. “Forever” glows with self-realization — “I finally figured out that there’s actually nothing wrong with me” — while “Finally Safe in the World” offers the record’s quiet triumph, its chorus lifting like a breath finally exhaled. Every track moves with emotional muscle, the kind that comes from living through it and putting soul before polish.

“Spider in the Sink is about so many things,” Little explains. “I think most importantly it’s about taking back your own power, a power that you always had but didn’t use. It’s also about gaining strength through motherhood, and the importance of surrounding yourself with people who evoke the most genuine and positive version of yourself. Although I’m in a good place, I still struggle with anxiety every day, which I also speak about on the EP. It’s about acceptance of your true self as a whole, the past and all the horrible and good things that happened to get you to where you are now.”

Mind the Moon - Side by Side.

Mind the Moon is a singer-songwriter known for her honest, emotional songs that live between indie folk and alt-rock. “Side by Side” captures the feeling of standing still while everything around you moves.

The lyrics reach for connection in the face of time passing, touching on love, memory, and the quiet ache of holding on to a moment frozen in time. It’s a song that holds space for the things we can’t keep, but never really lose.

Mind The Moon's emotional single was recorded live at RAK Studios in collaboration with Jung Kim and Dom Borzestowski (Gang of Youths).

Stephen Wilson Jr. - Gary.

Indiana-born, Nashville-based rising star Stephen Wilson Jr. releases his new single “Gary” via Big Loud Records, kicking off the beginning of a new era following his massively successful 2023 debut double album søn of dad. The slow burning rocker builds to a propulsive peak, combining Wilson Jr.’s grunge influences with his signature lyricism that touches upon modern life in Middle America.

About the song, Wilson Jr. explains: “Gary, a dying breed, perhaps I pray not, we are going to need our Garys, y'all. Our Garys are going extinct, much like the polar gare. I believe we need to save them. It's gonna be a Gary, scary world without them. Where I come from, the Garys get it done. And when your septic tank blows, I do not believe AI will show, but I believe a guy will. And there's a good chance his name's gonna be Gary.”

It’s been a busy year for Wilson Jr. who released both a deluxe edition of his widely lauded debut double album søn of dad, as well as his recent Blankets EP, which included covers of songs by Nirvana, Temple of the Dog, The Postal Service and The Smashing Pumpkins

Winterpills - This Is How We Dance (Album).

The critically acclaimed Massachusetts quintet Winterpills returns with their first album in nine years. This Is How We Dance deepens their catalog of elegant chamber pop that’s “haunting…downright glorious when the harmonies start, as crisp and shining as crystal” (The Washington Post). Consummate masters of the slow burn, Winterpills have nurtured a singular aesthetic over the course of their 20 years together: lush and often gritty instrumentation, poetic and vulnerable lyrics, celestial harmonies, and cinematic arrangements that stealthily pull you in.

Boston music blog, If It's Too Loud praised, "Lean in the Wind," is a perfect reintroduction to the band. It's gorgeous chamber pop that also reaches into the world of dream pop, and is slightly folk adjacent. As with virtually any song from Winterpills, the true magic comes from the vocal harmonies between Flora Reed and Phillip Price. Those combined with the jangly guitars leads to an almost dreamlike state felt while listening to "Lean in the Wind." Welcome back, Winterpills. We're thrilled to have you."

Emerging from the hiatus of the pandemic, Winterpills dove hearts-first into crafting the album's 12 songs, in a string of inspired creative sessions in the band's living rooms and basements. The resulting album feels at once personal and universal, and showcases the evolution of a band still restless and exploring new ways to collaborate. Teaming up with producer Dave Chalfant––who had a production role in the band's first 2 albums––brought the new record full circle.

The James Hunter Six feat. Van Morrison - Duke and Goldie - Running Out The Clock - White Birches

The James Hunter Six - Ain't That A Trip feat. Van Morrison.

Today, The James Hunter Six shares the high-energy music video for the blues blaster "Ain't That A Trip," a rare duet with legendary Irish singer Van Morrison. Directed by James Slater (Jamie T, Major Lazer, CMAT), the joyful clip features a group of dancers performing an expertly choreographed, eye-catching routine in a desolate UK factory. The track comes from the group’s upcoming LP Off The Fence, their first release with Easy Eye Sound which is out January 16.

On the music video, Hunter shares: “Nearly all my tunes are written to be danced to and ‘Ain't That A Trip’ is no exception. Anyone who wants to wreck the dance floor (or factory floor) bustin' some moves to it is more than welcome.”

Slater adds: “We shot the video in a textile mill in my hometown of Bradford, England. In fact, it's where my Dad worked up until his retirement. It's a beautiful space. We just turned up, turned the lights on and started shooting. It was choreographed by my long time collaborator Daisy JT Smith who worked with four incredible dancers Saskia, Kadafi, Nicholas and Charlie to create something really free and playful.”

British singer, songwriter and GRAMMY-nominated James Hunter was first introduced to Van Morrison in the early '90s, and appeared on two of his albums – 1994’s live set, A Night In San Francisco and ’95’s Days Like This. The following year Morrison returned the favor, guesting on Hunter’s Believe What I Say. Three decades on, Hunter explains what it means to have him return for another collaboration: “I’ve always reckoned Van’s voice, right from the paint-stripping howls of the Them days to the Smokey Robinson-esque ‘Crazy Love.’ It’s a real kick having him sing on something I wrote. Is that a trip or what?”

Duke and Goldie - Romance and Ramblin' (EP).

Vancouver-based country-folk duo Duke & Goldie return with their luminous sophomore EP Romance and Ramblin' – a heartfelt collection exploring love, belonging, and the beauty of being an outsider. Led by the raw and anthemic single "Outsider," the record bridges classic country storytelling with modern reflections on identity and self-discovery.

Produced by acclaimed sonic craftsman Erik P.H. Nielsen (City and Colour, Blue Moon Marquee), Romance and Ramblin' finds Eric "The Duke" Duquette and Jena "Goldie" Gogo distilling the soul of country music through their own lived experiences. Drawing inspiration from icons like Loretta Lynn, Gram Parsons, and Lucinda Williams, the pair reimagine the heartland sound for a new generation – one defined by vulnerability, warmth, and truth.

"I've always been a big fan of classic 70's outlaw country music – folks like Waylon, Willie and Kristofferson," says Eric. "Except I don't live on a ranch, drive a pickup truck, ride horses or have any of the usual country accoutrement. So I felt like a bit of an outsider. When I went back and listened to those old records that I loved so much, I realized that they were singing about being outsiders too. And ultimately, isn't being an outsider what country is really about?"

Running Out The Clock - No Parking.

Running Out the Clock are making waves in the music scene with sharp guitar hooks, shimmering synth textures, and an unstoppable sense of energy. The band began when childhood friends Aaron (guitar) and Josh (drums) joined forces with Anisa (bass/vocals) and Yaz (lead vocals). Drawing inspiration from indie, math rock, synth-pop, and beyond, they’ve created a sound that’s vibrant, varied, and distinctly their own.

Nimble basslines and explosive drum fills drive adventurous shifts in rhythm and genre, while glistening synths and emotive guitar melodies amplify the blissful vocals and harmonies. Together, they craft songs that are as technically sharp as they are emotionally resonant, with influences ranging from Arctic Monkeys to Olivia Dean.

Running Out the Clock introduced themselves to the synth-pop world with their debut single, ‘Why Wait for Love?’ – an energetic anthem that celebrates self confidence and individuality. ‘Why Wait for Love?’ set the tone for the band’s dynamic style and catchy pop hooks. Building on the momentum of their debut, the band have just released their second single, ‘No Parking’ – an upbeat and fast-paced Indie Rock track that reflects the restless pursuit of purpose and identity. The band are already gearing up for their next single, ‘Without U’, set for release this November.

On stage, Running Out the Clock are equally captivating. Within months of their first live show in spring 2024, they became Rockshore Battle of the Bands finalists, earned airplay on Blast106, and won the Queen’s Battle of the Bands after a standout performance in front of more than 300 people at Mandela Hall.

White Birches - Salt the Earth

White Birches comprise of Jenny Gabrielsson Mare and Fredrik Jonasson who collectively deliver a musical soundscape that is at times expansive and yet feels deep and personal.

Having featured the previous single last month and looking forward to hopefully sharing the whole album in the near future, one thing is clear, although the following two quotes suggest we should expect darkness as a theme, somehow they still mange to factor in a number of other emotional responses leaving me wanting to here more from them.

Their label state "Salt the Earth proves that White Birches continue on their path where the last single Breathing started. The song is dark, melancholic and will embrace you totally. A perfect soundtrack for the season." The band tells us "Life is not just about grief and darkness. It is also about heartache."

Palm Ghosts - Rhett Miller - Gwenno - Black Dahlia - White Birches

Photo - Chad Crawford
Palm Ghosts - Content Providers (single).

Nashville-based indie rock trio Palm Ghosts releases its Content Providers album via Sweet Cheetah Records/Steadfast Records/Poptek Records on October 10. Content Providers is not just an album, it's a howl from the neon gulag of 2025, where rock bands aren’t bands anymore, but social media vending machines doling out dopamine and desperation in equal measure.

Palm Ghosts, ever the beautiful b*tards of post-punk gloom and cinematic pop, have cracked the mirror and are pointing to the ugly thing squirming behind it. These eleven songs don’t whisper or plead; they seethe, spiral, and spit in the face of algorithmic servitude. There’s blood under the fingernails of every chorus. You can hear the band clawing for something real in the white noise of followers, filters, and faux vulnerability. This is a world where authenticity has been weaponized, where the artist is just a dancing bear with a ring light and a Patreon account.

So, Content Providers does what any sane record would do—it loses its mind on tape. There are echoes of Gang of Four wielding a synth like a machete, Joy Division driving a burning Tesla into a lake, and sweet, sweet melodies that feel like postcards from a collapsing civilization written in faux-blood and tears. It’s ironic and earnest, brutal and beautiful.

Rhett Miller - All Over Again.

Rhett Miller releases “All Over Again,” the final single from his tenth solo album A lifetime of riding by night that arrives this Friday, October 10 via ATO Records. Co-written with Nicole Atkins, the tender song of hope and resilience poses the poignant question: What if everybody was there for each other just for a minute?

About the single, Rhett Miller explains, "Nicole Atkins was the brains and driving force behind ‘All Over Again.’ She challenged me to go with her to a musical place I'd never gone before. We did something that felt big and sweeping and positive in a way we had no idea the world might need a few years later when the song finally found a home on this new record of mine."

Nicole Atkins adds, “I was out on tour with the Old 97’s, it was the first few months of my life being sober on the road and this music and melody came to me. I showed it to Rhett one night and the next day he had all the words and they were so beautiful and positive. Just like Rhett. It’s tough to write a song that’s happy but he always has the perfect lyrical twists that are so natural to him.”

Gwenno - Utopia (Cornelius Remix).

Gwenno shares a dazzling Cornelius remix of “Utopia”, the title track from her new album that was released to universal acclaim via Heavenly Recordings in July. The Japanese producer / musical genius takes the track from Cardiff via Las Vegas and transports it to a starlit, sky high Tokyo piano bar. The result is pure utopian pop heaven - a sweeping orchestral love song to life itself. .

Commenting on the remix Gwenno says: “Cornelius is such a huge musical figure in anyone's life who came of age in the Naughties, and so I was over the moon when he agreed to remix Utopia. He has not only managed to enhance the musicality of the song, but has also added to the hyper real efflorescence that was in the air at the turn of the 21st century, which is what Utopia is all about. I see it as a perfect musical marriage between Las Vegas and Tokyo in the year 2025.”

Cornelius adds: “A few months ago Gwenno contacted me on social media asking if I’d do a remix. I didn’t know her music at the time, but once I listened I realized it was exactly my taste: psychedelic in feel, with production that hints at Krautrock and at Jean-Claude Vannier - Serge Gainsbourg’s arranger. I was also drawn to her natural, clear voice and her Welsh background. I was genuinely happy that an artist making music like that took an interest in what I’m doing all the way over here in Japan, so I gladly accepted. For my version of ‘Utopia’ I aimed for an elegant sound that updates the 1950s exotica of Esquivel and Martin Denny for today. I hope you enjoy it.”

Black Dahlia - The Imposter (Album).

Black Dahlia is an experimental musician and performance artist whose work blurs the boundaries between theatre, sound, and surreal spectacle. Her creations exist in dreamlike spaces where masks, characters, and worlds collide—flamboyant, avant-garde expressions that draw as much from performance art, mime, and surrealism as they do from music itself. Whether inhabiting strange personas on stage or building vast sonic landscapes, Black Dahlia conjures universes that feel both alien and intimately human, inviting her audience to step into the unknown.

Her new album The Imposter (out this week via her own imprint School of Dahlia) is a theatrical concept record that unfolds like a surreal stage play. Written, produced, arranged and performed by Black Dahlia, it follows a lone wanderer, The Imposter, who chases an enigmatic light away from a distant Paradise, only to find himself lost between realms, drifting through an interstellar limbo of time and strange encounters. The Imposter introduces this cosmic odyssey—an otherworldly tale of displacement and identity as the wanderer grapples with his fall from Paradise and the haunting uncertainty of existing between worlds.

Upon landing on Earth, the story continues with “Amphibian Man,” where The Imposter washes ashore in Germany and confronts the bizarre, dazzling reality of humankind. As he adopts new masks and identities in an attempt to belong, his confusion and frustration reach a breaking point, culminating in an explosive metamorphosis that symbolizes both rebellion and rebirth.

White Birches - Breathing.

Back in 2017 we first came across White Birches and were struck at the time by their incredible song construction and the atmosphere they create, so it's a big welcome back to Beehive Candy.  "Breathing" is the first single to be taken of the brand new upcoming album "A New Reign" (Release November 21 2025).

The track sets the tone for the album with its raw pulse, hypnotic synths, deep bass and intense vocals. Written in the aftermath of loss and upheaval, the song captures both pressure and relief. It is about survival — the simple act of breathing, where one wave of sound inhales and the next exhales.

Fans of Chelsea Wolfe, PJ Harvey and Anna von Hausswolff will recognize the haunting balance between fragility and ferocity.

Yellow Feather - White Birches - Little Axe

Yellow Feather - Lucille.

Background - Old Fort, North Carolina band Yellow Feather, which features vocalist Casey Kristofferson, daughter of Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge, released their debut album, And Gold, arlier this month.

Yellow Feather also features guitarist/vocalist Hunter Begley (who stars in the video for the album’s first single “Lucille”) and lap steel player Charlie Wills and the album features drummer Herschel VanDyke and bassist Robert Parks along with a slew of special guests!

And Gold was recorded at Echo Mountain Studio in Asheville, NC with producer Rorey Carroll, mixed at Café Rooster Records in Nashville w/ sound engineer Gabe Masterson and mastered by Alex McCollough (Jim Lauderdale, Amanda Shires, Todd Snider) at True East Mastering in Nashville.

Mountains call many to their bosom. Born sheltered by the winding valleys, amidst time-worn peaks, or discovered down a  shady dirt road, songs and humans alike, have many origins. Hunter Begley found himself in an eastern descent past Asheville, past the weird, and staring at truth. In the small town of Old Fort NC, searching for a room to fit his bed and guitar,he found a loft belonging to Casey Kristofferson. What became of the friendship that followed was the band, Yellow Feather.

Music in moments. Stories in sunsets. Poetry in progress. This is how songs are made. Kristofferson weaves lyrics and melodies  perfectly, while Charlie Willis works the lap steel into a smooth, sometimes rhythmic, but always haunting eulogy to the past. WEBSITE.

'Lucille' is one of twelve songs on the recently released 'And Gold' debut album. The album is a melting pot of gorgeous Americana rooted music, where vocal duties are shared, melodic hooks are a constant feature and the band are just so good. Like featured song = Love the album!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

White Birches - Howl.

Background - White Birches' music has been compared to Depeche Mode, Cocteau Twins and Sisters of Mercy mixing sweet piano and alarming guitars with dark wave synthesizers. Haunting pop melodies with dark lyrics.

The band formed in the summer of 2013 and their debut EP Stands of White Birches was recorded during the fall of 2013 and released april 2014 followed by a 10 day tour in an old station wagon. One year later, in April 2015, their debut album Dark Waters was released. Dark Waters was nominated in the catogory "Best Synth" at the swedish "indie grammy awards" Manifestegalan.

In the fall of 2017 White Birches signed with the label Progress Productions and their second album is to be released during the dark winter of 2017/2018. The duo consists of Jenny Gabrielsson Mare and Fredrik Jonasson. WEBSITE.

We featured Jenny Gabrielsson Mare a couple of times back in 2016, and now as one half of White Birchs she returns to Beehive Candy with the song 'Howl'. Her vocals are immersed in Fredrik Jonasson's richly textured keyboard sounds as the song flows along growing in energy and passion. The video is also Jenny's handiwork, the song is very much a team effort.

Little Axe - London Blues.

Background - Twenty-three years ago, this quotation foretold a great career for Little Axe aka Skip McDonald. The musician had already had a taste of fame with the Sugarhill Gang Backing Band / Tommy Boy Co-operations and their Hip Hop Masterpieces, writing music history along the way. Then he rolled out Little Axe and gave the blues a new, groovy face! Releases on legendary labels like Okeh Records, Realworld, On-U Sound and majors like Sony, BMG, Warner, etc. followed.

On-U Sound label mastermind Adrian Sherwood has always given Skip a platform to present his entrancing blend of blues, gospel, cajun, dub and trip hop: pioneering and authentic at the same time. His sound takes the essence and sound samples from blues legends such as Howlin Wolf, Leadbelly and Son House and distils them to create musical visions that are both penetrating and highly hypnotic. Little Axe has released seven albums to date; London Blues is his eighth official album. Old mates, like Mark Stewart (Pop Group and Maffia), Doug Wimbish (bass player for Living Colour), Keith LeBlanc (drummer), Perry Melius (drummer for African Head Charge) have provided assistance – and JebLoy Nichols collaborated on writing.

London Blues sticks tenaciously to tradition – to the blues – but at the same time is infused with a plethora of musical lingos (see above ….). On London Blues, Skip McDonald’s creative team is even more sophisticated and innovative than on the predecessor albums. Amazing instrumentals (Be Thankful), a touch of gospel (Deep River), splashes of trip hop with blues harp (Next Week Thursday) and delta blues meets dub (When I Rise) – the album meticulously follows a trail between Chicago and London, blending all the stepping stones to form a smooth, irresistible pathway.

The title track and featured song 'London Blues' is typical of the album as a whole, a vibrant collection of songs, where reggae and blues collide with other styles resulting in some wonderful material. There are even some dub versions along the way. Top musicianship and refined natural vocals, this is a very fine collection.
