Empire Child - Thomas Csorba - Kenny Shore - Special Friend - Fine Night Elements - Jeniffer Lima

Empire Child - Negativity Be Gone.

Empire Child is the new musical project of Ruth Rothwell. Having spent decades shaping music culture from the inside out, Ruth—formerly a senior A&R manager at MCA/Universal—was a key figure in the UK dance music explosion of the 90s, starting out as a club promoter before becoming label manager at BCM Records, the most successful UK dance label of the era. During this time, she helped launch Digital Underground in the UK, worked closely with Andrew Weatherall, and later went on to manage and develop artists including Dina Carroll, Carleen Anderson, and Juan Atkins. At MCA Publishing, she signed and nurtured globally influential acts such as Zero 7, Basement Jaxx, and Air. Alongside artists, Ruth also nurtured key songwriters, most notably Rob Davis, during whose time with her he went on to co-write era-defining hits including Spiller’s “If This Ain’t Love” and Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”. While looking after Eg White she put him forward for a co-write with newly signed Adele. This resulted in the song “Chasing Pavements”.

Despite her success behind the scenes, songwriting was always her true calling. “Songwriting is really my calling and I could no longer ignore that fact,” Ruth says. That pull eventually led to Empire Child, her long-form artist project, with the forthcoming record produced by Madrid-based jazz professor and producer Mariano Diaz.

Her debut single “Trace the Race” introduced the project with a deeply personal reflection on identity, ancestry, and belonging. Inspired by her heritage—her mother Indo-Jamaican, part of the Windrush generation, and her father from Cape Town, South Africa, who fled apartheid—the song explored migration, legacy, and the reminder that “your ancestors were immigrants once.”

Now Empire Child returns with her new single “Negativity Be Gone”, a song about reclaiming control over the thoughts and influences that shape our lives. Rooted in the idea that what we think every day affects our mood and outlook, the track is a call to push away self-doubt and destructive thinking. “I’m trying to get the message across that we have choices,” Ruth explains. “Choices about what we think and who we surround ourselves with. There are so many wonderful people in the world that you’ve yet to meet. Find the good people.”

Thomas Csorba - You Think You Know Someone.

Texas singer-songwriter Thomas Csorba has shared "You Think You Know Someone," a heart-on-your-sleeve-style song detailing the never ending discovery of a lasting love. From sweet notes tucked into jean pockets to a deep unspoken understanding, there’s always a layer to peel back and new ways of loving to uncover. This is the latest single from Csorba's new album Tender Country, which is out May 22 as the first release on the newly-launched Turtlebox Records.

“If there is anything I have learned in five years of marriage, it is that someone you know so intimately can still genuinely surprise you," says Csorba. "Growing old alongside someone is not for the faint of heart; it requires a tender spirit to recognize that, while our lives are intertwined, we are still individuals evolving along the way.”

He continues, "This song documents that perspective. It acknowledges that neither my wife nor I are the same people we were when we met about a decade ago. Over the past year, I have been moved by her depth and thoughtfulness as I watched her become a mother to our two boys, build her art business from the ground up, and navigate being married to a (sometimes-neurotic) artist of a husband. I am grateful to have a front-row seat to watch her life unfold, and I'm even more grateful to be a part of it."

Kenny Shore - Happiness & Misery (Album).

North Carolina’s Kenny Shore is back with a new full length album, Happiness & Misery The album runs the gamut of emotions and sounds and once again focuses on Shore’s ability to distill the human experience into song.

Happiness & Misery is an album of ups and downs, thus the title. As they were finishing the recording, Jerry Brown and Kenny reflected on the themes brought forth on this album and realized that the title from the song "Happiness & Misery" fit perfectly. It captures the back and forth throughout... from the fun bounce of "Roller Coaster Ride" to the grieve- filled angst of Nail It To the Wall. This didn't happen as planned. It was through looking back at what had happened organically, that made them sure of the album title.

As in the case of Kenny’s last album with Jerry, they had a real blast recording this. Maybe it's the "requirement" that was established with recording the last album, Time Stands Still - to start things off with a well told joke. This helped set the tone for each session. They tried (and succeeded) not to take each other, or this whole process, too seriously. Kenny says, “I think it worked and helped us make sure we were having a good time, doing what we love.”

Special Friend - Clipping (Album).

Paris-based duo Special Friend release their third album “Clipping” today. Special Friend have become the masters of weaving elegant and sophisticated pop musical webs while staying true to their DIY roots.  The French/American duo (Guillaume Siracusa on guitar and vocals, Erica Ashleson on drums and vocals) manage to create a sound like no other band.  When they play live, audiences marvel at the huge, intricate structures the band construct, while falling in love with the crystal-clear vocal melodies that are threaded in between the shards of guitar and the rattle of the drums.  How can a duo achieve so much?  UK audiences will be able to ponder this question in March: Special Friend are coming over from France to do a substantial tour of the UK.

The new album is more diverse that the last, with the high-tempo indiepop of first single ‘Breakfast’, the majestic, Yo La Tengo-like dreampop of ‘Clipping’ and the country-ish, gentle, homesick melancholy of ‘Isolation’.  Final track ‘OOO’ is a bold piece of Krautrock-inspired experimentation; ‘Mold’ is a beautiful slice of slowcore and opener ‘Paint A Picture’ is modern pop at its catchiest and most direct.

‘Clipping’, the album title, refers to the discipline of pruning growth back, removing dead wood to create a perfectly shaped tree with abundant blossoms: an accurate description of the album, and of the songs that hang from its elegant branches.  The album artwork is by Erica: Special Friend are in control of every aspect of this elegant artefact.

Fine Night Elements - Around This Sun.

Who are Fine Night Elements? Fine Night Elements are a working-class band from the North East of England, formed in 2021. Blending alt-rock energy with electronic textures, melodic hooks, and cinematic atmosphere, the band refuse to sit neatly in one genre. Fine Night Elements make music that feels grounded, ambitious, and unmistakably their own.

Around This Sun began as a simple, sombre acoustic idea that reflected on the state of the world with themes of war, homelessness and addiction. It steadily builds in intensity, each section lifting higher into atmospheric and reflective choruses, a soaring bridge and guitar solo, before closing on an expansive, ethereal, crescendo.

Commenting on the new single the band say "We’re so proud of this one, and it’s a song that feels so relevant in today’s world."

Jeniffer Lima - Pour Me A Drink.

A promising new voice in Swiss pop music is emerging from the vibrant heart of Winterthur: Jeniffer Lima. With her new single “Pour Me A Drink,” the multilingual musician ushers in a new era. She has turned away from Swiss-German pop and instead discovered modern English-language country pop. It is no surprise that the rising artist has been discovered by renowned producers. Together with Manuel Egger and Dave Demuth, she created her first songs, which quickly found their way onto Swiss radio. Her single “90s Vibe” has already secured a coveted spot on the rotation playlist of Radio TOP.

As a songwriter, Jeniffer Lima tells autobiographical stories that resonate far beyond a young audience. With catchy melodies and honest, profound lyrics, she creates music that touches listeners across generations. After her first releases in an acoustic singer-songwriter style, Jeniffer Lima quickly evolved under the guidance of producer Dave Demuth and found her place in the modern pop genre. Despite this musical development, one thing remains central: authenticity on stage.

With “Pour Me A Drink,” Jeniffer Lima once again shows her instinct for contemporary pop and emotional storytelling—confirming her potential as one of the exciting new voices from Winterthur (Switzerland).

Here Come the Mummies - Marsy - Special Friend - Rosier feat. Safia Nolin

Here Come the Mummies - Road Trip (Album).

The legendary, linen-wrapped lords of funk, Here Come the Mummies, continue their unstoppable groove-march with the release of Road Trip and a National Tour! Leading the charge on Road Trip is focus track “DTF,” a prime cut of the band’s signature “terrifying funk from beyond the grave.” Built on deep-pocket rhythms and tongue-in-cheek charm, “DTF” invites listeners into the Mummies’ mischievous world. As the band explains: “Anagrams can stand for lots of things. Like BDE, or FBI. In this case, we are slingin’ some Down Town Funk your way. DTF.”

Road Trip captures the joy, chaos, and camaraderie of life in motion—those long drives, loud laughs, and spontaneous detours that turn simple travel into unforgettable memories. According to one Mummy, “There's only good vibes on a road trip. We distilled this feeling into a funky-ass groove so you can get that feeling from your futon, office chair or VW bus.” Throughout the record, Here Come The Mummies deliver a full-on funk joyride, from the celebratory title track “Road Trip” to the punchy escape anthem “Rubber Meets the Road,” the sly mischief of “Backdoor” and the unapologetic downtown strut of “DTF.” The result is a tightly packed collection of grooves designed to move bodies, shake rooms, and keep the good vibes rolling wherever you land.

Here Come the Mummies have built a reputation as one of North America’s most electrifying live acts. Their high‑impact performances have made them a major draw across clubs, theaters, and festivals in multiple U.S. markets with capacities reaching more than 2,000 tickets, and they continue to captivate audiences from SummerFest to Jam Cruise. They’ve shared stages with legends like P-Funk, Al Green, Mavis Staples, KC & The Sunshine Band, and Cheap Trick, while igniting festivals such as Summer Fest, Summer Camp, Bluesfest Byron Bay, Musikfest, and Suwannee Hulaween. From rocking the Super Bowl Village to becoming favorites on The Bob & Tom Show and appearing on That’s My Jam with Jimmy Fallon, the band continues to prove that not even 5,000 years underground can stop a truly unstoppable groove.

Marsy - Changes / Rosé.

London band Marsy (fronted by Hannah Rodgers of Pixx) share two new tracks, recorded with Mike Lynsey (Tungg, LUMP). Rolling in on a completely pure sound - strummed guitars, soft keys, mellow drums and a vocal that sounds like it's moved in from a higher plane.

"Changes" floats like it's just opened the door on one of your best dreams and invited you back inside. "Rosé" explores trauma, dissociation and the domino effect of acting on intense emotions & being stuck in a pattern of addictive behaviors. Marsy are a London based four piece that combine effortless songwriting with timeless melodies.

Special Friend - Clipping.

Paris-based duo Special Friend have just released the gorgeous new single 'Clipping.' It's the second single from their forthcoming album of the same name, out 30 March. We are told that ‘Clipping’ refers to the discipline of pruning growth back, removing the dead wood to create abundant beauty.

Rosier feat. Safia Nolin -  Plus d’amis.

Montreal-based collective Rosier releases their gloomy, atmospheric new single "Plus d'amis" featuring acclaimed Québec musician Safia Nolin, available now. The track will appear on the deluxe edition of Elle veille encore, slated for release this Autumn. To mark the occasion, the band has announced a UK/Europe tour launching March 13th.

A dark folk-rock lament sung entirely in French, "Plus d'amis" is stripped-back and distorted, drawing comparisons to Slowdive, Mazzy Star, and PJ Harvey with its grunge-infused, shoegaze aesthetic. Time seems to stand still in this piece drawn from archival folk material, drifting into a gentle lethargy while gracefully exploring themes of boredom and despair. Safia Nolin's voice blends in with disarming ease, creating an enchanting echo of intertwined vocals and hushed, almost spectral textures that linger in space and envelop the listener in deep melancholy.

"This song developed from stories we discovered in the archives—narratives centered on the fear and dread of losing your mother," the band explains. "As it took shape, its vulnerability and deep melancholia reminded us of Québec musician Safia Nolin, whom we're huge fans of. We reached out to her, and were so happy when she agreed to sing on the track."

The track grew out of Rosier's archival research for their album Elle veille encore, during which the band explored mother figures in folk traditions by digging through written and audio archives of traditional texts from Franco-Canada and France. "We kept finding stories with mothers at the center," the band explains. "One recurring theme was the fear and dread of losing your mother, and this song grew out of one of those stories. As it took shape, it developed a deep melancholia and vulnerability that reminded us of Québec musician Safia Nolin, whom we're huge fans of. We reached out to her, and were so happy when she agreed to sing on the track.

Phantom Pink - Jasmin Wagner - Special Friend - Farveblind feat. Emmeline - The Tammy Shine - Son Little

Photo - Rachel Frichette
Phantom Pink - Czech New Wave.

Phantom Pink is the hauntingly tender alias of Los Angeles-based artist Brayton Walls, whose dark, cinematic strain of art-rock captures the beauty in emotional chaos. Blending jagged textures with dreamlike melodies, Phantom Pink’s sound is otherworldly, yet familiar.

Originally from Las Vegas, Walls began writing songs at 10 as a way to navigate his growing pains and identity. After years of shaping his voice in DIY scenes across the West Coast, Phantom Pink has emerged with a sound uniquely bruised and beautiful

In October, he released the first single “I’m at the right place at the right time” from his forthcoming full length album Gothika (due 2026). The song - mastered by Joe LaPorta (Beabadoobee, Laufey, Future Islands) - is loosely based on the cult classic thriller, Possession (1981). This year, he follows with “Czech New Wave” (out 1/16/26) inspired by the film movement of the same name, it’s a splash of color in a black and white world.

Jasmin Wagner - Were You Happy Today.

Jasmin Wagner comes from Kerns in the Swiss canton of Obwalden and is releasing a catchy new single titled “Were You Happy Today.” The 23-year-old singer and songwriter didn’t just discover her love of country music today. In fact, this sound has accompanied Jasmin since childhood—alongside her second passion, besides music: flowers. How does she combine these two loves? Quite simply, as “The Singing Florist,” as she likes to call herself.

It’s therefore no surprise that ideas for songs often come to Jasmin when she’s out in nature. She loves being in the mountains and finds inspiration when moving through the fresh air amid the Alps.

Growing up with a guitar in her hand, Jasmin began performing at weddings, christenings, and celebrations at the age of 14—and for several years now, also in renowned Swiss clubs. Always with her Western guitar and her expressive voice, which truly shines in the country and folk repertoire.

Farveblind feat. Emmeline - Natural Behaviour.

Copenhagen trio Farveblind just announced their debut album 'Micro Pleasures', will be out 15th May. Produced by Farveblind and mixed by Swedish engineer Gustav Brunn (whose credits include work with Yung Lean and Viagra Boys), the album will feature a cast of contributors and guest vocalists including Django Django, k.flay, Elliphant, USERS, Foreign Air and Emmeline. With touchstones ranging from Battles and The Chemical Brothers to Underworld and Viagra Boys, Farveblind's hard-edged brand of electronic music collides breakbeats, acid-drenched techno, punk fury, and sweeping cinematic layers.

Their forthcoming debut album 'Micro Pleasures' pulls that punk volatility, industrial precision and widescreen electronic drama into the same gravitational field and is previewed now by new single 'Natural Behaviour', featuring London vocalist Emmeline. Built on a pulsing, subterranean groove, Emmeline’s vocal moves between shadow and clarity, circling the refrain “I’ve been waiting for a change in your natural behaviour” while the skittering instrumental tightens around her.

Speaking about the track, Emmeline says: “When the boys sent me the rough draft of this instrumental it was already so driving and epic. I wanted to write something equally dark but with a momentum and force to it that would move the song into something broadly philosophical and/or existential. The phrase ‘Natural Behaviour’ came to the fore pretty quickly, and I started to think about what that actually means. How much are we a product of the music around us? Of the people? Of the availability of light? Then I started thinking about someone waiting for someone’s natural behaviour to shift — and how that can be a pretty futile task. Maybe the song exists in a club at the ends of the earth, where we’re all questioning why the grass grows upwards, why the bassline hits harder when the beat drops, why we punish the earth for what it gives us — and how some patterns are hard to break.”

The Tammy Shine - So Very Little.

Just released the new solo single and video So Very Little by indiepop legend and lifer Tammy Ealom of the band Dressy Bessy. It's been 6 years since the last Dressy Bessy album, but this time Tammy is back under a new name The Tammy Shine with an album she wrote, recorded, and mixed all herself. It doesn't stop there as she also shot all the promo photos, made the videos, and did all the album artwork and packaging. This was her first time in full control of an album from start to finish.

Set for release on February 20, 2026, Ok Shine Ok finds the perfect home on Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records (HHBTM), a label known for championing idiosyncratic and authentic indie pop. The album title itself serves as a mantra—an affirmation of positivity amidst the chaos, a nod to the "shine" Tammy has always brought to her visual art and stage persona.

Fans of Dressy Bessy will still find the undeniable hooks and melodic sensibilities that are Ealom’s trademark. However, they will also discover a new depth—a vulnerability that comes from the singular approach and the confidence of a woman who has lived through the changing tides of the music industry and emerged even stronger.

Son Little - Be Better.

Son Little has announced ‘Cityfolk’, his fourth album and first since 2022. Although Little is often placed in the category of “roots musician”, ‘Cityfolk’ defies genre and lets the evocation of his storytelling pierce through. “The industry likes to keep artists in little boxes, and for Black artists it has meant being defined by your proximity to ‘urban,’” Little admits. “But my music has always had flashes of country, rock and folk, as well as hip-hop, blues and R&B. So I've always struggled as an artist who kind of, I think, lives in the spaces between genres.”

With today’s album announcement comes 'Be Better', a track that is perfectly apt for the start of a new year. A song about release, resilience, and the quiet power of self-belief, 'Be Better' sheds the weight of old stories and broken expectations, trading despair for movement and renewal; it’s a hymn for transformation, challenging anyone ready to leave the past behind to step forward, even when the road ahead is dark.

Now living outside of Atlanta, Livingston attributes the development of ‘Cityfolk’ to going even further south to record in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, in January 2025. It was there that Little connected with Ben Tanner, a two-time Grammy-winning musician, Alabama Shakes band member and producer of St. Paul & The Broken Bones, John Paul White, Foy Vance and more, to flesh out sketches of songs that he’d crafted through epiphanies about his family’s roots. Already having an understanding of his father’s side, Little views his maternal line as a “mystery unfolding,” but it was in Shoals that the stars aligned, both through retracing his history and formulating an organic chemistry with Tanner.

Glass Forest - Chris Emmert - Special Friend

Glass Forest - Can't Just Walk Away.

Vancouver-based Glass Forest is an indie-pop group composed of Nick Owen (vocals/keys), Stephen Clarke (bass/beats) and Abby Wale (vocals). They have gained a reputation for euphoric live shows that blend electronic dance elements with atmospheric soundscapes. Their debut EP is anticipated in May 2023.

"Can't Just Walk Away" was written about the emotional hardships following the fallout of a previous relationship; specifically, between band members Nick and Abby.

It was a uniquely honest process writing and recording the single as they directly confronted the traumas. Oddly healing, it gave space to address and work through past issues, broaching subjects rarely discussed by ex romantic partners.

Chris Emmert - Say My Love.

Nashville Americana singer-songwriter Chris Emmert has officially released his latest single, "Say My Love", on all streaming platforms this weekend. The track marks Emmert's second release of 2023, following his debut single "Lets Go Out Tonight". Both tracks will appear on Emmert's June 23rd debut EP Introducing Chris Emmert.

Emmert, on the single: This is one of the last songs I decided to put on the EP. It was a staple in my set for about the last year or so, and was a song audience members would often cite as a favorite after my performances. It’s a simple song with a honest message and an upbeat swing about it. I think everybody likes when a tune is easy to understand and feels good. One of my heroes, Hank Cochran, always said, “make it short, make it sweet, and make it rhyme.” So, I think for those reasons this song works and vibes with folks.

We recorded this song live, only going back to overdub my guitar and vocals. All of the arrangements were developed organically in the studio. I told the players to simply play what they were feeling. I think that fostered a really unique and original sound for all the songs, which was my ultimate goal in producing this EP.

Special Friend - Bête.

Special Friend (American Erica Ashleson and French Guillaume Siracusa) are a duo with a sound that’s somehow minimal and epic. She drums, he plays guitar, their voices harmonise, a bontempi organ slips in almost unnoticed - and suddenly you find yourself lost in the huge landscape of a song.

Bête is one of many great tracks on the album – insistent, catchy, yet mysterious and elusive.  Erica and Guillaume switch effortlessly from English to French in their songs but the melodies are so entrancing you often don’t notice the change.  The lyrics lie in wait for you, and they are powerful (Bête is about the self-destructiveness of our species), but the music will seduce you first.

You may be reminded of Yo La Tengo, the Delgados or, when the volume goes up, Quasi and Galaxie 500. But Special Friend bring something new, something special!

Based in Paris, they’ve built a strong following in France, and the new album looks set to introduce them to the wider audience they deserve. The video for Bête is a good introduction to the band; it was filmed in the summer at Studio Heat in Montreuil, where the album was recorded.
