Maddee - Leon Rosen - Vinyl Staircase - Tallies - The ROAMies - Moon Panda - Breichiau Hir

Just four weeks on from sharing 'Clouds' Toronto based Maddee returns with 'Dry' another song taken from her forthcoming debut E.P 'Red Mind'. Her soulful vocals are smooth, intimate yet powerful when required and the musical arrangement really is splendid.

Leon Rosen shares his debut single entitled 'Summers Edge' described as an end of summer piece the vocals exude heartfelt emotion and are gorgeously distinct as they hold centre stage on this song.

Dorking (England) quartet Vinyl Staircase have a new video for 'Sidewalk!' a feisty and potent song where the bands influences inspire rather than dominate. I had some friends from Dorking many (OK many many) years ago, so a little added reminiscing for me, but the song is a fine one.

We are back to Toronto again, this time for Tallies and a 360 degree video for 'Midnight'. It's a rich indie pop song and I'm pleased that they referenced The Sundays and Cocteau Twins in their promo, this really does have the strength of both bands combined, a feat and a half in my opinion.

We have a storytelling video by The ROAMies and the melodic and beautiful song 'We Can Work It Out' where the duos duel vocals and harmonies are just fabulous.

Moon Panda have shared a colourful and creative video for 'On The Attack', which works so well with their mixture of psychedelic nuances and high quality dream pop sensibilities.

Over the past year or so we have featured a number of Welsh acts performing in their native language and it's with pleasure to share a couple of new songs from Breichiau Hir namely 'Yn Dawel Bach' and 'Saethu Tri'. It just goes to show, you can enjoy the rock and passion of any good band whatever they are saying and singing.

Maddee - Dry.

The Toronto-based artist, Maddee is now sharing the downtempo R&B of ‘Dry'. Taken from her forthcoming debut six-track EP, ’Red Mind’, which is due for release this coming autumn, the new cut finds the artist exploring silk-smooth brass sections and pinpoint percussion, threading her lucid vocal in between.

‘Dry’ once again finds the 21-year-old artist working with Gray Rowan (Charlotte Day Wilson, The WAYO) on co-production, this time thematically turning her attention to self-worth and the importance of loving oneself. “It’s about trying to escape the feeling of loneliness but realising it’s perhaps better just to face it head-on,” says Maddee. “It’s also about realising my value in a relationship and what I'm ultimately worth and willing to give.”

The new single further examines the overarching subject of the forthcoming ‘Red Mind EP’, wrestling with the ramifications of a negative relationship and the emotions that Maddee felt throughout that period. From love to infatuation and naivety, the complex theme of love and emotion is further accentuated through the accompanying scarlet artwork.

Maddee cut her teeth initially with features on the ‘Colours EP’ from Toronto-based producer, Harrison - from here, she picked up slots opening for the likes of Lil’ Yachty, Willow Smith and Tennyson, alongside which she showcased across festivals including SXSW, NXNE and Field Trip. A pair of debut singles were released in 2017 (produced by Toronto’s Birthday Boy and Shagabond respectively), earning the buzz-building artist tips from tastemaker blogs, Majestic Casual and the attention of Red Bull Sound Select who handpicked her as one their spotlight artists.

Leon Rosen - Summers Edge.

Leon Rosen was born and raised in San Francisco, the son of an abstract painter and a belly dancer. His prodigious talent on the piano was recognized early on and by his teens, Leon was enlisted by Bay Area jazz legends such as Herbie Lewis and Sonny Simmons to back them on keys. He also fell in with the founding members of Burning Man who were pioneering the San Fran art scene in the early 2000’s. They invited Rosen to compose the opera which would be played for the 20,000 in attendance on opening day.

Rosen was always interested in pursuing singer-songwriter music in the pop vein, but made a more practical move to New York to study Jazz. Rosen thrived in the energetic and aggressive atmosphere of NYC, but eventually felt the call to move to Israel. Being both Jewish and Armenian, Rosen felt he was in a unique position to bridge the boundaries of race and religion. “I’ve always hoped to transform the world, so I often find myself taking a childish leap into the impossible,” Rosen notes. “Of course, you get punched in the gut by reality but I will always stay naive and get back up with a feeling of innocence and purity.” While studying Arabic, he became infatuated with Middle Eastern music which led him to Kochi, India, where he studied the musical traditions of the far East.

During this time, he had a prophetic dream that took place at a breakfast diner. Tom Waits sat him down and gave him a talking to about his initial dream of pursuing a career as a singer-songwriter. Waits told him, “Singing wasn’t about hitting the notes...You gotta just lay it in the bucket.” Rosen took this message to heart and returned to San Francisco. He struck up relationships with new collaborators and began exploring a more ‘baroque pop’ sound, combining his love of Jazz with the singer-songwriter pop of the late 70’s. The resulting recordings boasted a sweet, nostalgic vibe with modern beats and arrangements, falling somewhere between Harry Styles and and Tobias Jesso Jr.

Rosen’s debut single “Summers Edge” is now out. The heartfelt track is “...aimed to evoke the end of Summer. It’s a gentle sendoff of sorts, saying goodbye to Summer camp, Summer romance, Summer nostalgia or perhaps returning to a Summer lost - a place where an era ended, at a new time of change.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vinyl Staircase - Sidewalk!

Equally inspired by the fuzzy, garage rock vignettes of Ty Segall and the arch new wave of NYC legends Talking Heads, Dorking quartet Vinyl Staircase’s new single ‘Sidewalk!’ is a twisting, attitude-filled statement of intent. Channelled through a filter of resplendent Brit Grit, it’s a live favourite that has been tamed and committed to record.

There’s a taut feeling to the track, a disconcerting rigidity reflected in both the way the wiry guitars interact with locked-in bass and drum groove, and the panicked element to the vocals. Thematically this bears out, as the band elaborate:

"'Sidewalk!' explores the paranoia that can occur while walking around at night listening to music, also referring to larger worldly anxiety. Simultaneously it’s largely a non-sensical and erratic journey, reflecting the instrumental strangeness of the song."

Taking time out of touring to get to work on their latest batch of recordings has given the band a moment to reflect. Self-producing in their own homes in the small town of Dorking, they feel like outsiders with regards to any ‘scenes’. Using this relative solitude to their advantage, they have managed to avoid the tendency to take misdirected over-inspiration from their peers. Instead, the ability to grasp salient cues from other artists and taking them back into their own focused remit allows for the perfect mix between community driven evolution and individualist expression.

This ethos is exemplified in the video for ‘Sidewalk!’, as the band reached out of their bubble to bring the visual element of the track to life: “We wanted to put a big focus on the video for this track, and decided for the first time to collaborate with film makers”. Counter to the night-walk apprehension imbued in the track, the clip sees a figure striding through the streets in daylight, coolly accepting idolisation from an adoring mass, touching on the band’s tongue-in-cheek attitude.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tallies - Midnight.

Toronto-based indie-pop band Tallies have released the 360° video for “Midnight” ahead of their second European tour, which includes an appearance at Reeperbahn Festival in Germany. “Midnight” is the next single to be taken from the band’s breakthrough self-titled debut album – which is out now via Fear of Missing Out Records.

Hitting a melancholy sweet spot between The Sundays and Cocteau Twins, “Midnight” recaptures the thrill and excitement of those adolescent years when you’re sneaking out tof he house behind your parents' back and falling in love for the first time. Accompanying the track is a 360° performance video capturing the band in full motion, as director Christopher Mills explains.

“Midnight is an experiment in 360 degree double exposure performance based film-making that takes place in an enchanted rehearsal studio, and in a garden awash with moving light. Our perpetually moving camera embraces glitch, static poses during performance but always comes back to Sarah Cogan’s enchanting coaxing of an imaginary hand held viewers eye. Midnight balances glitch with wood, flowers plants and detritus with fluid and consistent camera movement throughout.”

Tallies navigate an unfamiliar world on their confident self-titled debut album, which blends elements of shoegaze, dream pop, and surf rock into a fresh sound that’s all their own. The band was founded by singer and rhythm guitarist Sarah Cogan and lead guitarist Dylan Frankland, a couple who met in a sound engineering class while attending Algonquin College (Ontario, Canada). Tallies’ sound was fully realised with the addition of Frankland’s friend from childhood rock camp, drummer Cian O’Neill, and bassist Stephen Pitman.

Growing up with a music-obsessed father, Dylan Frankland was introduced to greats like The Smiths, The Sundays, Aztec Camera, and Cocteau Twins. He subconsciously carried these influences into Tallies, which is evident in the Johnny Marr stylings of his guitar riffs and the Robin Guthrie-tinged shoegaze textures of his production. The album was co-produced by Frankland and Josh Korody at Toronto’s Candle Recordings, a hot spot where locals like Metz, Dilly Dally, Austra, and Weaves have made indie classics.

The ROAMies - We Can Work It Out.

Sometimes life gives us lemons. And, unfortunately, sometimes it throws those lemons at us really hard, one after another, no rest in between, no warning the next one is coming.

Our instinct is to run...hide...protect ourselves. Forget about making lemonade! And what about those we love, those sharing life with us? They’re right there beside us dodging lemons too. That’s where Love steps up. Love’s instinct is to love them as we love ourselves.

Even to put them above ourselves. If we’re all living to love each other as we love ourselves, to put each other first, those difficulties life throws at us become opportunities to work together, to build our relationships, to make them stronger...together. When the harsh difficulties of life fall on us, and nasty disagreements spring up between us, together, with Love and commitment to each other, We Can Work It Out - The ROAMies.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moon Panda - On The Attack.

Cross-continental psychedelic dream pop duo Moon Panda announced their debut EP and released a video for their latest single, "On The Attack", earlier today via High Clouds.

While "Attack" details the trials and tribulations of a long-term relationship, the Charlotte Spies-animated video is a technicolor contrast featuring shapeshifting animals. While that might seem visually disconnected from the song, singer/bassist Maddy Myers and Danish guitarist Gustav Moltke contend it couldn't be more relevant to the subject.

"[It's about] going back and forth between self-reliance and feeling like an unattached wild animal, chasing affection and adoration," Myers told High Clouds. "Waiting for a text back, a call, some proof that I’m missed. Hopefully, it outlines that chaos that can happen inside you when you just want that warmth and acceptance."

"Attack" is the latest song off of the duo's upcoming EP, Pastel Pools, which was announced alongside the single last week.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Breichiau Hir - Yn Dawel Bach / Saethu Tri.

To move from the caustic, the abrasive, the aggressive to a pensive sadness that eventually brake’s into a cacophony of blistering chords with such ease is a testament to Breichiau Hir’s growing confidence. The last 12 month of releases has shown a band forever forging their own individual path. ‘Yn Dawel Bach / Saethu Tri’ is their new Double A side single, it’s also the band's most melodic songs to date. These songs combine Breichiau Hir’s love for loud noise and soft sad moments. Emphatic sounds and melancholic atmosphere.  ‘Yn Dawel Bach / Saethu Tri’ belong together, they come from the same emotional and creative place. As Steffan Dafydd the bands lyricist and vocalist explains:

“In Saethu Tri, I outline the dread or regret that can overcome me and how I’m never totally sure how to deal with it. I don’t dramatise it in the song, I kept it matter of factly and tried to convey the numbness and dullness that comes with it. It’s wistful and sombre.”

“Yn Dawel Bach is nearly a response to this dread I talk about in Saethu Tri. It basically points out that these waves of panic can overwhelm you whenever it wishes. It can come crashing at you wherever you are. It doesn’t ask permission, it just arrives, unannounced and uninvited.”

These frail emotional landscapes the songs move through are beautifully conveyed. Calm verses that ease the listener into a false sense of security and control before a wall of sound blissfully brakes into the chorus.

The single will be available on limited edition cassette tape and Breichiau Hir will celebrate the release with a launch night at The Dojo, Kings Road Yard, Cardiff on September 28th.

Locks - The Cordial Sins - Ex Norwegian - The Be Positives - Dominic Sen - Bandits On The Run

Locks return to Beehive Candy for a seventh time with their latest release 'In The City'. The bands creativity is notable in pretty much anything they record, this time they have shared a simmering alt folk song with bags of atmosphere and a very addictive vibe.

From The Cordial Sins we have their new single 'Cruel'. I was hoping to share the video for it, but it's still unlisted as I write, nonetheless this is a gorgeous and melodic alt pop song that is released today.

Ex Norwegian have shared 'Life' along with a video that brings out the psychedelic feel of this fabulous and somewhat sixties orientated rocker. The band may have been around for a while, but they are still putting out some really fine new songs.

Our second feature for The Be Positives this time we have 'She's The Girl' and boy does it contrast with the last song. This time the melodic vocals lead with a toned down rock backdrop, last time they were belting it out in full garage rock mode, either way they are good.

Just four weeks after sharing the video for 'Hear Me' Dominic Sen returns with 'What It Is'. Her vocals are distinct and melodic on this beautifully arranged and somewhat gentler piece, and the hooks slowly dig in deep.

With a 360 degree video to immerse yourself in Bandits On The Run present The Ballad of Bonnie Jean (Live at the Safehouse). The trio serve up some feisty live roots music, putting us right in the centre.

Locks - In The City.

LOCKS are a London based alt-folk band, made up of L.Geary-Griffin (lead vocal / guitar), Mike Byrne (double bass), Marian McClenaghan (fiddle) and Andrew Marvell (drums).

In The City is the third track taken from the folk-noir quartettes debut album Skeletal Blues. It contains their signature traits which the band have honed over time, shuffle-esq tribal drums, rumbling bass lines, fiddle hooks throughout and story-telling fables.

“This song, simply put, is all about revenge. You’ll get what you deserve no matter what.” L. Geary-Griffin. “The fiddle part was made to sound like a siren echoing a warning ‘don’t come into the city tonight’” Marian McClenaghan.

The B-side to In The City is a remix of Teeth from their debut EP Rattle Them Bones! By Stos Goneos of Zambian swamp-blues brother duo Bite The Buffalo In The City & Teeth remix available as digital download September 6th 2019.

The Cordial Sins - Cruel.

The Cordial Sins' new single is entitiled "Cruel". A personal reflection and a journey toward the resolve of inner conflict, "Cruel" is a rollercoaster representing how isolation manifests when one dwells on unresolved grief and the emotional labor of the past.

However, this isolation acts as a catalyst for personal growth, change, and eventual peace. Musically the track features the band in their finest pop form with Liz Fisher's beautifully rising and arresting vocals alongside Corey Dickerson's lush guitar textures.

Drawing fervent attention for their delectable meld of alternative, pop and shoegaze, The Cordial Sins have recently completed their first U.S. tour in support of Elvis Depressedly. The group’s electrifying performance has also been showcased on stages shared with the likes of The Breeders, Foals, The Flaming Lips, Twin Peaks, Wolf Alice and more.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ex Norwegian - Life.

Somehow, through cosmic forces and mystical hiccups, it’s entirely possible you’ve been missing out on one of music’s great treasures. Following a musical lineage of power pop greats from the 60’s and 70’s, as well as the unhinged genius of the likes of They Might Be Giants and Squeeze, they have spent the last ten years cultivating a rabid fanbase and critical acclaim from publications worldwide. Over 25 tracks (15 on the vinyl edition), Something Unreal is a monolithic slab of glorious hooks and Michelle Grand’s Debbie Harry-esque vocals trading blows with Roger Houdaille’s rabble-rousing tones - if this is the first time you’ve encountered them, a technicolour world awaits you.

Based in Miami Beach, Florida, Ex Norwegian (named, obviously, after the Monty Python sketch), Ex Norwegian have had an evolving cast of band members, with the odd exploding drummer and bassists lost at sea but throughout it all, prolific songwriter, Roger Houdaille has remained. Something Unreal features fan favourites, Life and Making Deals, by turns swirling psych tempests and grandiose anthemic glam hurricanes.

The band’s output of chiming, melodic pop and rock gems began in 2008 with their album, Standby, at the CMJ Festival in New York, immediately causing a stir and understandably having countless genres thrown at them in the hope that one would stick.

Released in late 2016, Glazer/Hazerr is described as a “love letter to classic rock ‘n’ roll based pop” by UK’s Shindig Magazine. A low-key release, Tekstet (Subtitled) along with a 40-track covers album, Original Copies, quickly followed in 2017 leading up to 2018’s No Sleep. The ninth album, No Sleep, arguably took the band back to the beginning, crafting straightforward pop/rock songs with effective arrangements and quirky lyrics with strong melodies, with the main trio of Roger, Michelle and Giuseppe working collectively on it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Be Positives - She's The Girl.

THE BE POSITIVES is a northern conundrum. Consisting of Mike Seal (Guitar, Piano & Vocals), Rob Hatton (Bass & Vocals), Simon Mayne (Lead Guitar & Vocals) and Callum Darley (Drums & Vocals), they were splayed across Merseyside to Sheffield, all sharing an affinity for McCartney, Dylan, Kinks and Nick Lowe, and later, converging on Manchester, they hankered for gigging at grotty pubs across the city. Now united, the four-piece invoke mad-pop affirmation through berserk instrumentation laced with smart lyricism.

Of the same vein as Cut Worms, filled with Lemon Twigs-esque zest, second slice ‘Like Everyone’ flaps about with math-rock melodies and striking signatures – you never know quite where you stand – aligning it both musically and conceptually, feeding into Mike’s howls of “we’re like everyone…”

The band elaborates; “Like Everyone was originally intended for Proto Idiot but the weird timing of it threw us and it got shelved. I'm glad we revived it for The Be Positives as it’s understated and simple, yet the concept behind it is far from…. It was also one of those rare occasions where a song falls out of the guitar fully-formed, which doesn't happen often. We’re like everyone…”

Director Callum Scott-Dustin, who also created the visual for the band’s debut single, says; "For the 'Like Everyone' video we wanted to try and do something a little vintage and tongue in cheek, in the style of some Paul McCartney and Harry Nilsson videos we like. We played around with split screen, costume changes, some green screen and the idea of a fake concert within the video. We shot it all in a day at a Manchester venue then I had loads of fun throwing all the elements together in post, going for something playful that matched the energy and colour of the track."

The quartet’s self-titled album encapsulates their varied musical influences, from their garage fueled opening track ‘Like Everyone’ to the Nilsson tinged mad-pop of new single ‘Monkey. The Be Positives certainly don’t attach themselves to one genre. Expanding on ‘Like Everyone’, the band said “The song was written very quickly on acoustic guitar in Mike and Callum's kitchen. It was originally intended for Proto Idiot. You could sum the theme of the song up by simply saying, we all make mistakes; we're all the same.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dominic Sen - What It Is.

'What It Is' is Dominic Sen's second single from their terrestrial debut 'Visitor' out on October 18 on Roll Call Records. It follows previous single 'Hear Me', acting as yet another vignette from the love story, space opera, and thought experiment that is 'Visitor'. The album tells the tale of Tal Naata, a biologically human female coming from a distant and socially progressive civilisation to study Earth. Taking Tal Naata’s story as their prism, Sen casts our own primitive ideas of gender, duality and social cohesion back at us through shimmering, crystalline pop that pays homage to our recent past.

‘What It Is’ develops Tal Naata’s longing for connection on Earth. After spending her first months here struggling to adapt socially, she finds her interest piqued by a regular patron of the academic library in which she works. “I notice the books that you’re reading / you come ‘round the same time each day”. Tal Naata gives herself over to an insatiable curiosity to know more about this human that she feels inexplicably drawn to as her feelings morph into attraction. ‘What It Is’ is Sen’s own take on the female gaze in the throes of budding desire. Documenting one of the mainstays of the human experience, it is most simplistically a song about having a crush from afar and the follies and fluttering excitement that ensue.

Like Tal Naata, the album's creator Dominic Sen is themselves a visitor to Earth. The seventh and only surviving child of the supermassive black hole at the centre of “The Evil Eye Galaxy,” Sen drifted around space in limbo until intercepting the radio waves from Earth’s broadcasts during 1980’s and 1990’s. Our colourful pop culture precipitated Sen’s fixation on the meretricious myth of Earthbound stardom and eventually led them to create 'Visitor'.

‘Visitor’ will be released on Roll Call Records on October 18. It will be immediately available for pre-order, including as a limited edition LP in “Interstellar White” vinyl.

Bandits On The Run - The Ballad of Bonnie Jean (Live at the Safehouse).

Bandits on the Run have joined forces with The Power Station at BerkleeNYC to create “The Ballad of Bonnie Jean,” an immersive 360 experience where the audience finds themselves at the center of all elements, being surrounded by the music featuring spatial, ambisonic audio. When a viewer rotates the video by moving a mobile device, dragging the picture on a computer, or moving their head while wearing VR goggles, the sound field also rotates.

Stephen Webber, the Executive Director of BerkleeNYC, explains, "Power Station at BerkleeNYC is committed to pushing forward new modes of artistic technology and is becoming a leader in the development of 360 Cinematic VR music video content, featuring spatial audio. When it came time to present an educational session on ambisonic audio, I wanted to find a compelling acoustic group who knew how to engage an audience and was flexible enough to choreograph a performance to a 360 camera in the middle of the action. Bandits on the Run was the perfect choice! Their choreography blew away expectations, and the uber-talented trio provided a chilling, immersive performance that must be experienced to be believed. I truly believe the Bandits' 360 version of 'The Ballad of Bonnie Jean' is a pivotal moment in the development of 360 Cinematic music video!"

Comprised of cellist/badass Sydney Shepherd (who goes by the moniker “Bonanza Jellyfish,”) guitarist/fool Adrian Blake Enscoe (“Roy Dodger,”) and player-of-toys/clairvoyant Regina Strayhorn (“Clarissa,”), who are all actors in addition to troubadours, Bandits on the Run’s signature three-part harmonic voice stands at the center of their musical equation. Throw in some serious cello action, hooks played on various and sundry toy instruments, and a steely spine of rhythm guitar all accompanied by a suitcase drum packing a powerful punch and bang: you’ve got the basic magic of banditry, with a sound forged while busking in the acoustics of NYC subway stations.

Silver - Lucas Laufen - Shadowlark

Silver have just shared their new video for 'Wait'. It's a bright melodic rocker of a song, and the video captures that adding an extra layer of feel good to the piece.

Lucas Laufen has released 'A Million Miles From Love' which opens with an acoustic indie folk lilt, and is followed by some additional layers of instrumentation giving the track a richer feel.

Shadowlark have a new video for 'Bleed My Heart' which adds to the story line of the song, bringing plenty of drama, to a superb alt pop track.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Silver - Wait.

Silver will release their new EP Let’s Talk Tomorrow About Last Night on October 25. A new video for Wait has been shared ahead of the release.

Silver is Greg Gilmore (vocals, guitar) Jeff Knight (drums), Brendon Lund (bass), Adam Landis (keys) and Josh Kisor (lead guitar.) A Reno-based five-piece who deliver timeless, guitar-driven rock n’ roll. After coming together in the summer of 2016, the group self-recorded and released their debut EP Rock n' Roll Is Dead and began touring and staking their claim in the silver state and beyond.

It took only a few gigs to catch the attention of Joe Johnston, known for his work with CAKE and owner of Sacramento’s Pus Cavern recording studio who jumped on-board to engineer the band’s self-produced new EP.

Crossing multiple rock n’ roll genres Silver recorded Let's Talk Tomorrow About Last Night over five days in early January 2019. Silver stays true to themselves while paying homage to melody-oriented guitar rock and songwriter and singer Gilmore brings it all to life with his storytelling lyrics.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lucas Laufen - A Million Miles From Love.

“A Million Miles from Love” hit Lucas Laufen during his trip back home a few years back, particularly on a night when the singer-songwriter noticed his legs had been covered in blood.

“I went back down to the house to check what had happened and noticed that a rabbit had been killed on the lawn and left blood all through the grass. It was lying dead about a metre away from its rabbit hole with all of its family surrounding it.”

The deeply personal narrative behind the single was fueled by this graphic and surreal experience, forcing Laufen to recognize how possible it is to be close to home but simultaneously far away.

“I was in a really strange mindset with all the flying and moving between one side of the world and another - physically with my family but mentally floating around in space.”

Laufen worked with Tim Hodgson to direct the music video for his evocative debut. The collaborators tell an all-too-familiar story through minimal and vulnerable spaces, where recognizable material objects transcend their consumerist values.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shadowlark - Bleed My Heart.

Leeds threepiece Shadowlark have released the powerful and cinematic video for their recent single Bleed My Heart which is out now.

Directed by Ryan Mackfall, produced by Crashburn Media and starring Beatrice Blaj and Craig Russell, the video for Bleed My Heart was inspired by the band and the director’s love of David Fincher films. An expressive and mesmerising body of work, it features a strong narrative throughout with a twist in the plot at the end.

Lead singer Ellen explains; “We really wanted to avoid a performance-based video because they're just so boring... we also really don't like being seen. The idea with this was to have a proper narrative but something that wasn't as generic as a break-up. It reminds us of those great music videos from the 90s we all used to watch growing up.”

Following on from last year’s single Hunger, Bleed My Heart, produced and mixed by long-term collaborator Dan Austin (Massive Attack, Biffy Clyro, Doves), continues the band’s ethereal and poignant sound. Opening delicately with atmospheric synths and rich yet haunting vocals, the song builds to a dramatic chorus, showcasing the significant meaning about the power of talking to one another in an upbeat and mesmerizing way.

Forming in the halls of their local college in their hometown of Leeds, Shadowlark first introduced themselves in 2017 with debut single Do Your Worst. After gaining support from BBC 6 Music and Radio X, they secured a publishing deal with Warner Chappell, and over the last two years, have performed shows at the likes of Glastonbury and Live At Leeds, alongside support shows with George Ezra and Dylan Le Blanc.

Influenced by artists such as Portishead, War on Drugs and Bat For Lashes, Shadowlark are proud of their Northern roots and wear their hearts on their sleeves through their introspective and emotive alt-pop sound, which is a portrayal of real-life experiences and genuine everyday reality. As the band say; “we write real songs about real things that happen, and we play them to real people who care and will connect with them because these things happen to them too.”

Alongside Bleed My Heart, the band also have two standalone tracks featured on Take Us Home: Leeds United, an exclusive Amazon Prime documentary about Leeds United, which has been narrated by Russell Crowe. They include The Way It Falls and a cover of Marching On Together, the team’s official song, which is the first time it has featured a female vocal.

A highly anticipated remix of Bleed My Heart from World renowned producer and DJ Gerd Jansen will follow later this month alongside a UK tour announcement. Shadowlark are Ellen Smith (vocals), Chris Quick (keys) and James Warrender (drums).

Sketchy Fancy - The Florets - St Francis Hotel feat. Gaz Coombes

From Australia we have Sketchy Fancy and the single 'Pub Rock'. The bands natural rock sensibilities are fresh and polished and the delivery is both passionate and pleasing.

The Florets first E.P is 'Friction Made Fiction' which is a collection of five hook filled indie rock songs where the band carve out an individual and desirable sound.

Irish duo St Francis Hotel have the notable inclusion of Gaz Coombes on their new tack 'Liar Liar Liar'. It's a fabulous mixture of soulful vibes, psychedelic sounds and a gospel like chorus.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sketchy Fancy - Pub Rock.

Born from the desire to explore and perform, Sketchy Fancy carve sprays of raucous delight. Their collective experience of providing soul-filled thrills and hard-driven riffs has culminated in debut album Good.Bad.Happy.Sad.

A lucid ride through dreamy collections and heavy Zeppelins through to Super Nintendo and wasted days, this five piece from South Sydney bring contemporary psychedelica into focus for the working class. Pub rock in Palace City.

Good.Bad.Happy.Sad grins through kraut rock dalliances and experiences the blues on Venice beach, every moment a journey and documented with glee. Lead single Pub Rock draws from the storytelling of 1980’s pub culture and dusts it off with a high-energy arrangement and the poignant undertones of Australian bar scenes. The choral chant of “take me home” evokes both supportive community and the toll youthful hedonism.

These tight five watched each other play for years before hearing the call and seizing opportunity in early 2018. Their debut singles Butterfly Bonfire and The Rebel have been well recieved, garnering support form Sydney’s leading alternative broadcaster FBi and landing them the support for major touring act Caravana Sun. They’ve made headway playing shows up and down the NSW coast and are taping more records soon. You’ll hear bustling energy and sedated haze. Mixing good with bad. Happy and Sad. Taking in the common with the absurd, Sketchy Fancy exuberantly use the worst and revive with the best.

Show Dates:
13/09/2019 - Miranda Hotel, Sydney - Album launch
14/09/2019 - Northgong Hotel, Wollongong
27/09/2019 - Heritage Hotel, Bulli.

The Florets - Friction Made Fiction (E.P).

We are absolutely stoked to be releasing our first body of work to the world a year after forming. I think the EP has a really nice rhythm to it. Starting punchy and short, afterwards showing the importance of space in music and then slowly building into a heavy hitting outro - The Florets.

Emerging in 2018, Melbourne group The Florets hit the ground running with their debut single 'Sleep'. Led by driving bass and guitar melodies that complemented vocalist Nick Dawes’ rich vocals, the single was a strong statement of intent.

This richness has carried over into their new single ‘Just Coast’ too, with the band consistently building upon the strong foundations they laid down only a few months ago.

The band is rapidly building a strong presence within the Melbourne music scene & released their debut EP on August 30, 2019 under the name ‘Friction Made Fiction.’

Nicholas Dawes - Lead vocals/guitar/songwriter/keys.
Josh Dawes - Bass/backing vocals.
Amitay Moody - Lead Guitar/backing vocals.
Alec Cimera - Drums/backing vocals/tambo.
Location - Melbourne, Australia.

St Francis Hotel feat. Gaz Coombes - Liar Liar Liar.

St Francis Hotel are an Irish duo based in London. Their new single ‘Liar, Liar, Liar’ is being released on Danger Mouse’s 30th Century Records and is the first in a series of high-profile collaborations featured on the duo’s upcoming debut album.

Featuring vocals from Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes – his first new release since May 2019 –‘Liar, Liar, Liar’ epitomises the duo’s soulful psychedelic sound. The gospel-driven track is a venomous dedication to someone who’s perception of themselves is at odds with how the world sees them.

The accompanying music video is a vivid representation of this contradiction. St Francis Hotel collaborated with animation director RUFFMERCY (Thom Yorke, Run The Jewels, Earl Sweatshirt) who has become well known for his loose hand drawn animation style and video producers James & James.

‘Liar, Liar, Liar’ is the first single to be taken from St Francis Hotel upcoming debut album, ‘We Fall Together’ (Late 2019), which features other artists including Theresa Wayman (Warpaint, TT), Max Rad, and Waterstrider, with more names to be announced.

The release follows a string of singles including ‘You’d Gotta Be Alive’ and ‘Collide’ that earned critical acclaim and were featured across UK radio (BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 1, KCRW), Spotify (New Music Friday, Fresh Finds, Viral 50 UK) Apple (Best Of The Week) and appeared in US TV shows (Lucifer, Shadowhunters).

Rubita - Selci - Bananagun - Ets Trio - FEVA

Rubita has just shared a new song entitled 'Let Me Know'. Gently paced and lyrically quite personal this melodic indie folk piece, eases and charms it's way into our lives.

From Selci we have a live video for 'We Could Be Together' and the E.P. that its taken from namely 'Effervescence'. Described below as "gorgeous and otherworldly", I can only agree, her definitive style of alt pop really is something special.

Bananagun have shared the final track 'Crane In The Tiger's Mouth' from their upcoming 7" single. The timeless pop vibes are there from the moment go as their woodwind and harmonies create a unique and very pleasing sound.

Ets Trio have released a video for their imaginative folk rock song 'Lovers to Strangers'. With a combination of refined musicianship and melodic vocals the piece ebbs and flows in a calm and peaceful manner.

FEVA return for a fourth time on Beehive Candy with 'We're Not Defective'. Opening with a short burst of "out there" vocals, the alt rockers are soon barnstorming into a full on rocker that demands our attention to say the least!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rubita - Let Me Know.

A musician of great resilience and determination, Rubita presents a compelling swirl of conflict and desire in her latest single Let Me Know.

In the 3 years since the release of her warmly received Brutal yet Dulce Soap EP, Rubita returns with Let Me Know, a song born from torn relationships and informed by her hard work to date. Let Me Know was written in the heart of a student flat in Leith St, Dunedin, well known for its student population. Amongst disarming jangles and wistful harmonies, it describes the hesitant story of going back into a relationship with someone that broke their heart once before, and whether or not they have the strength to go through that again.

Let Me Know is one of many songs from the album that I wrote while living as a student in the freezing flats of Dunedin. Sitting back on a couch with someone I didn’t think I’d have much to do with again is where this song started coming together.’ - Rubita

No stranger to challenges, Rubita brings an impressive sense of character to her storytelling, her exchange in Rosario, Argentina found her performing her songs to the locals in order to communicate and make new friendships and graduating with a music degree as the sole female student. Her dedication to music helping to bolster her resolve and in turn these formative experiences have helped to craft an openness and intimacy within her work.

With 3 years of touring and and writing since her EP, Let Me Know signals the arrival her debut album, Distinctive Thrill. And as the tales of yesterday inform the songs of today, Rubita imbues an earnest charm into her developing wisdom and storytelling.

Selci - We Could Be Together (live) / Effervescence (E.P).

Calgary alt-pop artist Selci has released her gorgeous, otherworldly debut EP, Effervescence, with a live video for third single, 'We Could Be Together’. Recorded inside Selci’s Calgary apartment, 'We Could Be Together' soothes and sparkles at the hands of jazzist Timothonius on keys, and features Calgary producer Egypt on beat pad and young singer Heidi Shanklies.

“Doing this video was the start of getting a band together,” Selci says. “I've collaborated with Timonthonius in the past, but It was my first time playing live in this configuration. All of the songs on the EP are drenched in harmonies, so I'd love to add more singers and continue experimenting with different musicians.”

The song itself grapples with falling in love while dealing with depression, self-love over loving another. “Managing depression and anxiety is an ongoing battle for me, and my current partner has helped me work through so much, but that cliché sentiment about loving yourself before loving someone else has never felt so true,” she says. “You can’t rely on someone to fix you no matter how much you love each other.”

Effervescence examines the aftermath of various relationships ('Strangers' and 'Old Wounds'), a painful split with a bandmate ('Eyes of Amber'), and ponders the concept of artistic and societal freedom by using the metaphor of a mythic, mermaid-like creature confined to land ('Truth in the Sea'). Though trained in opera, contemporary and classical musical styles, Selci uses ambience and rhythm to compose sounds that exist on the fringes of pop music. To create Effervescence, Selci spent years in isolation while mastering the craft of production, setting her on a path of rediscovery and self-acceptance.

Sound guru Sylvia Massy (Prince, Kate Bush) was enlisted to mix Effervescence, and Matt Colton (New Order, Blood Orange, James Blake) was tapped for his mastering touch. The record also features an array of rare instruments and equipment from the National Music Centre in Calgary.  It’s an album of thoughtful, meticulous detail; as much an exploration of sounds and textures as it is a journey of Selci’s abilities as a sound designer and her dedication to carving out more space for herself and other women in technical roles.

“I always wanted to be involved in production and sound, but I didn’t think I was capable of it,” she says. “In the last few years, I gained a lot of confidence in my abilities. I felt like it was time to put out a complete piece of work. After performing countless shows, writing hundreds of songs that will never see the light of day, and hustling to bring my skills in production to a level that I believe in, I’m finally here.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bananagun - Crane In The Tiger's Mouth.

Bananagun deliver the final track from their upcoming 7" "Crane In The Tiger's Mouth". Regarding the sunny woodwind centric single the band stated "I guess sometimes you can feel like a fragile crane and the powers that be have got you in their jaw, you'll have to rise above or the tiger will swipe you down! Soar high little birdie for the night sky is and endless plane of dreams."

There are some records that you come across that sound like you’ve discovered an unearthed gem from a previous decade; a lost moment in musical history that has cruelly been sat gathering dust in a record shop for years. From the opening seconds of Bananagun’s “Do Yeah” – which stirs to life in an intoxicating blend of 1970s afrobeat, fuzzed out psychedelia and immersive pop – this very much feels like the case of discovering something special.

There’s a deeply percussive element to the band’s psychedelic ode to mother nature, touching upon Fela Kuti-esque repetitions, exotica, jazz and 1960s pop-rock. Much like a lot of the influences it filters into its own unique spin on it all, it’s intended as “music for the people” – a unifying groove that spans genres. Even the seemingly innocuous band name has an underlying message of connectivity that matches the universality of the music. “It’s like non-violent combat! Or the guy who does a stick up but it’s just a banana, not a gun, and he tells the authorities not to take themselves too seriously.” This extends to the underlying message of their debut single too: “try to love and not hate because you’re the one who has to carry it around.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ets Trio - Lovers to Strangers.

Ets Trio deliver folk-rock with worldly textures, bringing discipline, environments and a wealth of experience into a so; and accepting realm. Their single Lovers to Strangers a song of wisdom set to quell the an unsettling melancholy.

Fronted by Etienne (Ets) de Kock (vocals, acoustic guitar, lead guitar), the trio offer a grace with which to learn and accept the unfastening of relationships. The delicate finger picking, stunning harmonies, and heart-stopping lyrics vibrate Lovers to Strangers so to resonate distinctly with anyone who has felt the loss of someone special.

‘Lovers to Strangers has evolved over time as I’ve gathered more life experiences, and as my context has shifted. These days, rather than being an expression of my own heartbreak, Lovers to Strangers is a song of triumph for having made it out the other side, and an expression of empathy for someone who might be now going through something similar.’ - Etienne de Kock

Lovers to Strangers was written by Ets de Kock and recorded by Ets Trio (Oliver Wells drums and percussion and Jay Pyefinch bass) at Organic Patch Studio in the Perth Hills with Ets’ good mate Sound Engineer/Producer Matt Cal. Tucked away amongst the Jarrah Marri forest, it was the perfect place to bring together the final touches for the song. Lovers to Strangers was mastered by Lee Buddle at Crank Studio, known for working with artists such as Justin Beiber, Kelly Clarkson, Peking Duck and Gurrumul.

Born in South Africa, a childhood in New Zealand, and adolescence and adulthood in Australia, each of these settings have shaped Ets’ music. A WAAPA graduate Ets started playing Spanish guitar at age ten and has played most days since. Ets is also the lead guitarist of Mystic Rebellion a three-piece electronic outfit with West Australian Music Industry (WAMI) Award winner Mat Cal, and Mat Parker (Bambuseae Rhythym Section). Ets is also recording with Bomi Rock, a five piece specializing in indie surf rock.

Lovers to Strangers gently eases you through the sadness and dissipates the sense of loss with alluring tones of hope and acoustic swells of courage. Ets Trio bring the introspection of personal experience into an outwardly resilient world of folk-rock with a keenly perceptive dignity.

FEVA - We're Not Defective.

Heightening their credentials as one of the North East’s biggest emerging acts, Newcastle alt-rockers FEVA share raucous new cut We’re Not Defective, the lead track from the band’s forthcoming debut EP out later this autumn.

Spearheaded by charismatic frontman Sam Reynolds’ snarling lead vocals, the rising quartet’s latest effort shimmers with fierce indie licks and aggressive guitar tones, trademark qualities that’ve already earned widespread critical acclaim (The Line Of Best Fit, Clash, Dork) and praise across the airwaves (BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music).

“We feel like this track is where we’ve been trying to get to since we started as a band and we’re very proud to release it as the lead single off our debut EP”, the four-piece explained. “We’ve maintained since day one that we want to write heavy tunes that have a profound meaning and we feel like we’ve done so here”.

“The song is meant to empower people and we sincerely hope it does. We’re all navigating our way through life, one storm, one pipedream at a time and just because you take a different path or never quite make it to your end, it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you, it doesn’t mean you’re defective”.

Following on from summer shows alongside Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and The Vaccines, the Geordie risers are shaping up for their busiest period to date with further EP material on the way and their debut UK tour lined up in October.

Live Dates:
07 Sept – Riverside, Newcastle
18 Oct – Nice N Sleazy, Glasgow
25 Oct – Café Totem, Sheffield
26 Oct – Jimmy’s, Manchester

Cass Clayton Band - Bridal Party - Radio Drive

Cass Clayton Band released their new album entitled 'Play Nice' a few week back and it's well worth us catching up on it. The musical influences that inform the bands direction include rock, soul, funk and blues which ensures plenty of variety, more importantly the new collection of music has plenty of melodic hooks and is delivered with quality, passion and style.

We have already featured a couple of tracks from Bridal Party this year ahead of their 'Too Much' album release, and now we have the full album to enjoy. Their goal of making music they like is all apparent, as is their ability to write and perform exceptional, imaginative and notably creative pop songs.

The sixth full album from Radio Drive is 'In The Light'. Packing a fine collection of indie and alt rock tracks, the bands unpretentious natural rockers are determined and catchy throughout.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cass Clayton Band - Play Nice (album).

"Play Nice is an ironic title for this album, because I wasn't really playing nice in the writing of these songs. That's a departure from the norm for me, because I've always been careful to make sure people feel comfortable. I have a triple decker filter before my thoughts hit my tongue. I didn't want to do that with the music, so I stepped away from the comfort of being liked and said what I needed to say. I believe Play Nice turned out to be more expressive, vulnerable and sensual. Even the rock-based songs have an underlying message. I definitely feel overexposed, and maybe that's the way an artist should feel. Hopefully putting it out there without a filter allows other people to feel a little freer as well."

Cass Clayton Band has become known across the region for its tight chemistry and high-energy stage presence, a reputation that has landed them on some of the best stages, shows, festivals and radio shows in Colorado and beyond. Their unique blend of rock, R&B, funk, blues and soul has a distinctly contemporary feel, and has won over audiences across age groups and genres. Cass’s 2018 album (released June, 2018) won 4 songwriting awards and garnered top reviews from magazines nationally and internationally. They were also recently voted Album of the Year 2018 in the Colorado Blues Society Members’ Choice Awards. In addition, Cass has been voted as one of the top 3 slide guitar players in Colorado and top 2 vocalists (CO Blues Society Members’ Choice Awards). In February, 2019, she was featured on the cover of Recording Magazine with a 4-page feature article. Known for a uniquely soulful and velvety vocal style, Cass effortlessly moves from gentle and contemplative to a belting range that will knock you flat.

In 2019, Cass Clayton Band is shaping up to be an exciting year. Cass was recently invited to be a voting member of the Recording Academy, and the band is headlining for numerous festivals.  They will be joining Tab Benoit on the main stage at the Brighton Blues Blast, headlining Denver Arts Festival (50,000 attending), Art Night Out  in Lafayette, Stargazers Theatre Summer Series in Colorado Springs, and co-headlining Dickens Opera House with Grammy nominated, Brigitte Purdy.

Bridal Party - Too Much (album).

Victoria, BC art-pop quintet Bridal Party have always had the goal of making pop music they like. Now with the approaching release of debut full-length Too Much (on Kingfisher Bluez) the band find themselves at a critical moment: as songwriters and collaborators presenting their personal vision.

Principal lyricists Suzannah Raudaschl and Joseph Leroux formed Bridal Party with bassist and producer Lee Gauthier and drummer Adrian Heim in 2015. Jordan Clairmont joined on keys in 2017. Their initial EP release Hot Daze (2015) found chart success on college radio and some modest but promising support through placement on Bandcamp Weekly. Their second EP, Negative Space (2017) charted well and lead to six-figure streams of lead single Fruitless on Spotify. Beatroute (BC) magazine describes Bridal Party as “a perfect marriage of indie pop and soul.”

The band recorded Too Much over three separate week-long immersive studio visits in 2017 and 2018. This disparate recording process would ultimately undo and reform everything the band knew about their sound. A playful and unflinching lyrical voice was honed, drawing on themes of care and self-love as well as their sombre opposites. Each players’ particular handle on their instrument resonates without tuning out the chemistry of influence the members enjoy with one another.

The resultant record is a vibrant collection of songs of uncanny intimacy, thriving from experimentation in studio that remains honest to the band’s live set. Whether it’s the confessional lyricism and feathery textures of “When I’m Naked”, the plaintive riddle and bedlam of “Armour”, or the celebratory disco of the title track, Too Much shines a light on the band’s interior joys and terrors in equal measure.

Twelfth Day - Shotgun Tori & the Hounds - Rapport - Rosa Bordallo

Along with UK tour dates later this year Twelfth Day have just shared a new video for 'Keep Me' their latest single.Their musicianship and choice of instruments is described as unconventional, the end result is fabulous and the vocals and harmonies make the music soar to even higher places.

We have the full (self titled) album to from Shotgun Tori & the Hounds to enjoy via the Bandcamp stream below. Intelligent or with good humour, their lyrics alone are splendid and the mixture of folk, indie and country styles is delivered with quality and feeling. From Johannesburg, South Africa, their music crosses continents with ease, this really is a fine album.

Rapport have shared the first single and accompanying video today, the track is entitled 'In The Dark' and its a taste of what's in store on their debut E.P. due in October. It's a feel good indie pop/rock song where melodic hooks and a pleasing video suggest the band are worth keeping a look out for.

Musician and singer / song-writer Rosa Bordallo has a new album due in October from which we have 'Lost on the Coast' accompanied by a superb video. The song is hard to classify, it's personal, exudes feeling and is put simply, honest and beautiful.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Twelfth Day - Keep Me.

Twelfth Day are sharing the video for their new single, Keep Me which was shot in the studio.  It's a song inspired by the recent rise in awareness of climate change in the media, with the lyrics are from the point of view of Mother Nature as she expresses her relief that we’ve finally realised serious action needs to be taken to save the planet.

Keep Me makes up part of an in-the-works new album that will confront societal conventions by exploring a wealth of urgent current issues such as gender roles, power balance and the challenges of working in the arts as a young woman, the threat of climate change and society’s reluctance to act, and the struggles of mental health.

Expressed through their unconventional use of harp and violin - and their inclusion of drums and bass for the first time - they make something that’s greater than the sum of its small parts, drawing on a love of pop, folk, jazz and classical.

Shotgun Tori & the Hounds - Self Titled Album.

Shotgun Tori & The Hounds' self-titled album has just been released. Out of Johannesburg, South Africa, Shotgun Tori & The Hounds are articulate and intelligent story tellers, able to combine humor, emotion and beauty in an engaging new take on the indie-folk-and-country sound.

The band’s self-titled album is a collection of tales and spirit. Raw and melodic, the sound brings to mind Drive-By-Truckers if fronted by a combination of Amanda Shires and Martha Wainwright.

Lyrically, the songs on Shotgun Tori & The Hounds follow Tori’s imperative that stories are to be shared and not left to whither quietly.

The result is something at once powerful, vulnerable and defiant - all held firm by a production that draws as much from the Pixies and Radiohead as it does from the Beatles, Neko Case and Richmond Fontaine.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rapport - In The Dark.

Toronto-based band Rapport, are releasing the first single from their debut EP today Wednesday.

It’s called "In The Dark" and is accompanied by a really endearing video, and it appears on their debut EP which is coming out on Arbutus Records (Grimes, Lydia Ainsworth, Majical Cloudz) at the beginning of October.

The band is fronted by Maddy Wilde (formerly of Moon King) and they've been building some momentum in Toronto and Montreal recently, opening for folks like Sir Babygirl, TOPS, Ellis and Palm.

Rosa Bordallo - Lost on the Coast.

Musician and singer-songwriter Rosa Bordallo announces her new album Reef Walker, which will be released October 18, 2019 via Time Castle Recordings. Written entirely by Bordallo, Reef Walker is a personal investigation of identity, Bordallo is of CHamoru heritage and grew up in the Pacific island of Guam and moved to New York at the age of 19.

She has since struggled with distance from her birthplace—geographically and culturally—but finds solace and support in activism, connecting with urban indigenous communities, and creating music. Previously, Bordallo played in the post-punk band cholo and was a soloist under the moniker Manett, but Reef Walker will be the first album under her own name.

Reef Walker's first single "Lost on The Coast" is out today on DSPs, and, as Bordallo explains, "is about leaving one’s place of origin and not knowing if one will ever return. It’s about points of no return. We reach these important milestones in our lives only to realize we left something irreplaceable or irretrievable behind." The track arrives with a music video sourced from HD archival footage of aquatic life of various locales, edited entirely by Bordallo.

Xul Zolar - Fime - The Dollyrots

We have the brand new video for Xul Zolar and the song 'Nightfalls'. Musically it is somewhere between alt rock and indie with a definite experimental feel to the arrangement, the video is a fine accompaniment to a very fine song and E.P.

Fime have a new video for 'Solo / Together' which is a powerful indie rocker with a subtle melody and potent chorus line, it bodes well for the five song E.P due in October.

It's official The Dollyrots know how to party as is witnessed by the song and video for (drum-role please) 'I Know How to Party'. This is a hook filled and upbeat punk track that simply exudes good vibes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Xul Zolar - Nightfalls.

Cologne based indie four-piece Xul Zolar shared the new three-track 'Nightfalls' EP on August 23rd via Asmara Records/Kitsuné.

Alongside two recently released tracks: 'Perfume' and 'Nightfalls', the ‘Nightfalls’ EP includes the new single 'Your Ways'. A harmony of analogue and digital, the new single creates an atmosphere that is melancholic yet blissful.

Speaking to the rationale of the EP, the band explain "instead of moving on straight to work on our second full length we opted for the EP format which is a perfect playground to experiment and try things out. One aspect in which the songs of the EP differ from those on our record is that, while retaining electronic elements and influences, the sound is more ‘band-like’. For example while we often used triggered drums and samples on the all of the drums and percussion on the EP are played live and recorded. Another major difference to the last record is that the tracks on the EP are the first ones on which we worked as a four piece. We never follow a strict formula and though the tracks on the EP are in our opinion a clear continuation of our previous work, they are different enough to keep both the listener and us excited."

Since forming in 2011, Xul Zolar have gained recognition for their captivating sound and live presence, including performances at major European festivals Dockville, c/o Pop, Immergut and Incubate, as well as support shows and tours with the likes of Battles, Future Islands, Balthazar and SOHN. Having honed their craft, they have earned the label of being one of the most promising indie acts to come out of Germany in recent years.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fime - Solo / Together.

The band channel a slew of 90's influences to maximum effect, and it's made all the more potent by the crisp production, courtesy of Melina Duterte.

Recorded at the groups LA house (which they share with Duterte), "Solo/Together" is buoyed by call & response vocals and enveloping, reverb drenched guitars.

The nostalgic verses move with almost doo-wop-esque romanticism that perfectly juxtaposes the triumpant euphoria of the song's chorus.

Fime are an LA based band comprised of Beto Brakmo, Chase Cook and Maxine Garcia. Their new 5-song EP, Sprawl, comes on the heels of 2018's Outside EP, and follows the bands move from the Bay Area to LA. Sprawl is scheduled for release this October, and see's the band harnessing contemporary influences like Spirit of the Beehive along with classic alternative rock a la Sonic Youth, Pavement, and My Bloody Valentine.

The Dollyrots - I Know How to Party.

Filled with anthemic hooks and super-charged verses the Dollyrots new album Daydream Explosion is out now on Wicked Cool/The Orchard. "I know how to party is a song poking fun at ourselves and making the point that life is supposed to be fun. No one is perfect but everyone can party!" – says Kelly Ogden.

With production by the band and longtime producer John Fields, the Dollyrots' signature punk n’ rock style shines through with hard-charging guitars, tantalizing hooks, and punked-out percussion.

The twosome has had great success taking the DIY approach with their last three releases hitting the Billboard charts. Their 2017 album Whiplash Splash debuted on both Billboard’s Heatseekers chart at #13 and Billboard’s Independent Albums chart at #31. The band’s 2016 live album/DVD Family Vacation: Live in Los Angeles debuted at #15 on Billboard's Heatseekers album chart, and Barefoot and Pregnant garnered their first chart appearance, peaking at #7 on Billboard's Heatseekers.

This time around they have decided to join forces with Stevie Van Zandt’ s Wicked Cool Records/ The Orchard for the new album release. A label that evolved out of Van Zandt's weekly syndicated radio show Little Steven's Underground Garage, as it became clear to him some of the best Rock and Roll wasn't receiving the support it deserved. The duos alliance with Wicked Cool began with the singles “Get Radical” in 2018 and “Everything” this spring.
