The Darts - Scarlett Macfarlane - Lunar & The Deception - Les Flâneurs feat. Avantage Kairos - Eleyet McConnell - Andervel

The Darts - Apocalypse.

Seattle’s The Darts return with “Apocalypse,” the second advance single from their upcoming LP Halloween Love Songs, arriving March 3. Where “Midnight Creep” danced in B-movie shadows, “Apocalypse” blows the door off the darker half of the album, leaning into caveman rhythms, volcanic fuzz, and the kind of apocalyptic joy that makes destruction sound like deliverance. It hit February 3 and marks the moment the record shifts from spooky fun into full-throttle, after-midnight fire.

The song was born in Angers, France, when singer/organ conjurer Nicole Laurenne wandered through the massive medieval Apocalypse Tapestry, a wall of woven chaos, angels, beasts, storms, the whole cosmic meltdown. “The lightning bolt struck me,” she says. “The song practically wrote itself in the van as we left the castle.” Instead of doom, Nicole leaned into the strange liberation of burning it all down: freedom from suffering, freedom from crowns, freedom from being told what comes next. She wrote the line “no future, no kings” as a mantra of release — and a year later, as if the song had cracked something open, “No Kings” erupted as a protest chant across the U.S. All while the track existed only as a demo on her laptop.

Musically, “Apocalypse” hits like a ritual. A pounding, Neanderthal beat through the verses, wide-open chant on the chorus, and those snaking organ lines that nod straight to The Seeds, The Standells, and other 60s greats who knew how to make the end of the world sound like a block-party with broken amps. Rebecca Davidson’s guitar tone drags the song into modern grit with thick, grimy Mudhoney fuzz, a little L7 bite, and flashes of Bikini Kill’s unbottled anger. It’s garage rock with a cracked halo, stomped through the dirt and set on fire.

Scarlett Macfarlane - Winter’s Whisper.

New York’s Scarlett Macfarlane returns with “Winter’s Whisper,” a fun, energetic, and delightfully zany alternative-pop single that invites listeners into a world where fantasy and reality blur. Inspired initially by the image of a magical winter walk, the song quickly evolved into something far more surreal and became a reflection on how life itself often feels stranger than fiction.

“I wrote ‘Winter’s Whisper’ based on just the title and how magical a walk in a winter ‘wonderland’ could be,” Macfarlane explains. “Then words like ‘magic’ and ‘wonderland’ took me down a not-so-proverbial rabbit hole.” Drawing inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s iconic prose, the song shifted perspective, becoming a commentary on the bizarre, confusing, dangerous, and incredible nature of reality itself. “This world, life itself, is filled with fantasy,” she says. “It can be all at once transformed by the cast of characters you encounter throughout your own zany story.”

True to its theme, the song embraces duality. The title reflects the idea that every story has more than one side and that mystery is an inescapable part of understanding the world. Musically, “Winter’s Whisper” stands out through its unexpected fusion of pop melodies with an almost rockabilly, off-kilter energy. “I think the use of an almost zany rockabilly feel in a pop track really makes this song stand out,” Macfarlane notes. “It’s just fun to listen to.”

The songwriting process became a creative puzzle, weaving familiar fragments of Alice in Wonderland into a new and personal narrative. “I basically got to stitch tiny moments from a very famous childhood story into my own interpretation of Wonderland,” she says. “It was like solving a puzzle and making the pieces fit in a way they weren’t meant to in order to make my own image.”

Lunar & The Deception - Your Monsters.

Following a strong 2025 with the brooding single "Eclipse" followed by the subsequent “No More Secrets”, Lunar & The Deception now unveil another powerful precursor to their long-awaited debut album The Somnambulist, arriving March 6th. The band's striking new single "Your Monsters" landed on February 3rd.

Opening with delicate piano and lead singer Britt Xyra Dusk’s haunting vocals—evocative of Amy Lee's dramatic intensity—"Your Monsters" draws you into an intimate space before jagged guitars tear through the stillness. As drums build and strings sweep in, the track transforms into an anthemic, darkly progressive rock opus—melancholic yet powerful, vulnerable yet defiant. The song captures the duality of love—its tenderness and its terror—laying bare the beauty and brutality of relationships where affection and destruction exist side by side, where passion gives way to conflict.

At 02:48, the track undergoes a profound shift as layered vocals relay over each other, creating a rich choral effect that feels both communal and overwhelming—like an army gathering strength or a final stand in an epic battle. The mood transforms from personal torment to collective catharsis, moving from claustrophobic intimacy to vast, cinematic scope. This anthemic finale doesn't offer resolution but liberation through confrontation—the sound of rising bloodied but unbroken, where triumph mingles with sorrow and private pain becomes transcendent. Influenced by The Doors, Portishead, and Nico, with echoes of dramatic darkwave/gothic rock, "Your Monsters" is both a meditation on intimacy and a reckoning with the darker forces that surface when two people collide.

The band reflect: "'Your Monsters' is about the raw tenderness of love while confronting the shadows that emerge in intimacy. It's about those moments when connection becomes collision, when what we cherish can also consume us. It's an honest reckoning with both the light and dark we bring to each other."

Les Flâneurs - Fireworks feat. Avantage Kairos.

Les Flâneurs is the project of the musician and producer Alessandro Marchetti. His first album A Long Season (2020) was played in countless nations around the world and got rave reviews and appreciation. Afterwards, the project entered a phase of exploration. The new album Afterglow, to be released in 2026,  arrives after six years of research, experimentation, and collaboration — a slow process shaped by mood, instinct, and artistic necessity rather than industry timing.

What if love was a fireworks show? A fire, yes, but a fireworks fire — a fleeting sensation of unknown fantasy. Fireworks captures that ephemeral explosion of color, light, and emotion: dazzling, intense, and impossible to hold. Like a spark in the darkest night, it illuminates, mesmerizes, and disappears almost as quickly as it arrives, leaving a space for the imagination to wander — between expectation and fulfillment.

The song was born as a collaboration between Les Flâneurs and Avantage Kairos, the singer and leader of the band Kairoscode, who added voice and lyrics to Marchetti's instrumental composition, forging the definitive identity of the song. Fireworks' video was filmed in the stunning landscapes of the Azores, where the singer Avantage Kairos now lives, by the Portuguese director Paula Murio. The everyday life's scenes from the heavenly island translate the song’s dreamlike intensity into cinematic images full of color, light, and poetic narrative.

Eleyet McConnell - The Horizon.

Award-winning husband-and-wife duo Eleyet McConnell are set to release their highly anticipated sophomore album, The Journey, on March 6, 2026, across all major digital platforms. The project marks a powerful new chapter for Angie and Chris McConnell, showcasing their most confident, expansive, and emotionally driven work to date.

Leading the album is the anthemic first single and official music video, “The Horizon,” a classic rock–inspired statement of resilience, perseverance, and forward motion. Built around driving guitars, soaring melodies, and heartfelt lyrics, the track has quickly become a defining moment in the duo’s evolving sound.

The Journey continues the momentum Eleyet McConnell have built as one of independent music’s most authentic and compelling voices. Blending rock, Americana, and roots influences, the album explores themes of survival, self-discovery, love, accountability, and hope—reflecting both personal and universal struggles.

Produced and recorded by Patrick Himes at Reel Love Recording Company, the album features a seasoned lineup of musicians, including: Angie McConnell – Vocals, keys; Chris McConnell – Bass; Brandon Ullery – Guitar; Rob Olsen – Guitar; Patrick Himes – B3/Keys, Producer; Kimmi Sampson – Fiddle; Kenny Barnett – Drums, JD Harris – B3.

Andervel - Foxglove.

On May 1st Mexican-born, Reykjavík-based singer-songwriter Andervel will release his debut album Ironclad & Palm Trees. A folk-leaning, multilingual record shaped by migration, memory and the meeting of two homelands, the album expands the poetic, cross-cultural world he has been steadily building across recent singles, where the warmth of Mexico meets the windswept quiet of Iceland.

Today, alongside the announcement, Andervel has shared the album’s lead single, ‘Foxglove’. Named after the hardy, wind-tossed flower that thrives across Icelandic landscapes, the track reflects on resilience during moments of transition. Beyond describing the seasonal shift from summer into autumn and the transformation of the Icelandic landscape, the song captures an intimate moment of suspension: between light and darkness, the hidden and the visible. Gentle finger-picked guitar and brushed percussion contrast with the relentless force of the Icelandic wind, which pounds against walls like ocean waves. Written during a period of anxiety as Anderson and his partner faced the long descent into winter, the song was inspired by a seemingly fragile flower surviving against the magnitude of harsh weather - a quiet meditation on waiting, uncertainty, and finding strength before change arrives.

Ironclad & Palm Trees reflects a project that has grown alongside its creator, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist José Luis Anderson. His classical vocal training (Anderson was mentored by his grandfather, award-winning opera tenor Librado Alexander), early musical upbringing, and years performing Mexican and Latin American folk shape the timeless quality of his voice, while his life in Iceland informs the album’s emotional terrain and sense of place.

Moving fluidly between Spanish, Icelandic and English, Andervel draws from a broad lineage of lyric-driven songwriting rooted in the folk tradition. Alongside contemporary influences such as Adrianne Lenker, Laura Marling and Natalia Lafourcade, as well as Mexican composers Manuel M. Ponce and María Grever. Active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Ponce and Grever helped bridge European classical traditions with Mexican folk music, creating intimate, expressive vocal works whose emotional directness continues to resonate in Andervel’s songwriting and live performances.

Kee Avil - The Darts - Archive - Adam Weil - Honey Motel

Photo - Caro Etchart
Kee Avil - itch.

Kee Avil (Vicky Mettler) this week shares the next move in what has been a notable and highly praised musical journey in recent years. Rather than produce and drop a traditional album, Mettler is teaming up with NNA Tapes to experiment with a one-track-at-a-time-over-the-course-of-a-year project, Vapor. To be clear, this is not merely an album with a bunch of singles –– this is Mettler writing, recording, and releasing her album in real time, in chronological order.

It feels to me like a response to the public-diaristic modes that have emerged alongside the life of the Internet and digital social communications. Mettler says: "Creative inspiration is often like vapor, appearing and dissipating quickly. This album represents what inspires me in the moment."

"Vapor is a deconstructed album that I’ll be releasing song-by-song throughout 2026, a sort of sonic diary. Creative inspiration is often like vapor, appearing and dissipating quickly. This album represents what inspires me in the moment, it’s my attempt at capturing fleeting moments of creativity, and finishing them quickly while they’re still fresh and breathing. For me, it’s a way to let go and make music without thinking too far ahead. Once a song is finished, I move on. I don’t try to link the songs: each tells its own story. My hope is that at the end, a natural cohesion appears, a concept reflecting a frozen moment in time, a process from start to finish."

The Darts (US) - Midnight Creep.

Seattle’s all-women garage-rock wrecking crew The Darts kick off their new album cycle with “Midnight Creep,” the first advance single from their upcoming LP Halloween Love Songs, out March 3 on Adrenalin Fix Music. The single dropped yesterday and finds the band slipping deeper into the spooky, swagger-heavy garage-trash universe they’ve been flirting with since day one. If you’ve ever wished the Back From the Grave comps came with a dance craze, you’re already in the right neighborhood. The Darts have spent the last decade carving their name into the global underground with Farfisa-first garage chaos, sold-out shows across Europe, the UK, and North America, and multiple sold-out vinyl runs.

They’re known for genuine, close-to-the-crowd performances and Nicole’s honest connection with the room, a band that brings people into the show and plays from real joy rather than polish. They’ve landed sought-after KEXP live sessions and hit major festivals like Punk Rock Bowling, Binic Folk and Blues, SJOCK Festival, and Bear Stone Festival, earning fans ranging from Dave Vanian to Stephen King to Jello Biafra. With Nicole Laurenne (vocals and keys), Rebecca Davidson (guitar), Lindsay Scarey (bass), and the returning Rikki Watson (drums), this lineup feels like the most dialed, dangerous, and joyfully unhinged version of the band yet.

“Midnight Creep” started as a surprise curveball when Lindsay brought Nicole a demo called “Phantom Creep.” Nicole was already quietly writing a Halloween-themed album and immediately heard a chance to chase something different: an honest-to-ghoul old-school monster dance, the kind that might’ve aired on a haunted Shindig episode taped in a basement full of fog machines and paper-mâché bats. She rebuilt the tune into a slinky, organ-driven earworm; Lindsay created a simple, go-go-friendly choreography; and suddenly The Darts had a Halloween banger that felt both brand-new and weirdly familiar.

Archive - City Walls.

The unique, enigmatic and acclaimed South London collective Archive share the latest single, "City Walls", from their forthcoming record Glass Minds (due out February 27 via Dangervisit).

On 29 April 2022 Archive released their twelfth studio album Call To Arms & Angels recorded at RAK Studios and produced by Jérome Devoise. The album features 17 tracks and is accompanied by the documentary Super8: A Call To Arms & Angels. Adam Weil - A Little Broken.

Adam Weil is a Midwest-based singer-songwriter whose music blends unguarded lyricism with a stripped-down Americana sound, favoring emotional honesty over embellishment. He released his debut album, Same As I Used to Be, in 2024, establishing a voice rooted in intimacy and reflection. Adam continues to refine and expand his artistry with his forthcoming release, A Little Broken, on Friday, March 27, 2026. His songs delve into themes of resilience, self-reflection, and quiet perseverance. Adam’s voice carries a subtle tension throughout the record, balancing vulnerability and resolve that feels quietly disarming. There’s a rawness to the music that suggests the songs were written to be felt first, not explained.

The CD was produced by Grammy-winning producer Sheldon Gomberg, who also produced Same As I Used to Be, engineered by Kevin Smith, and recorded at Carriage House Studio in Silver Lake, CA.  The musicians playing on the CD are Adam (acoustic guitar, lead vocals), Jay Bellerose, Gary Novak (drums), Rob Humphreys (percussion), Joshua Gooch, Trevor Menear (guitars), Anna Butterss, Alan Hampton, Jorgen Carlsson, Jennifer Condos (bass), Carey Frank (organ), Chris Stills and Kipp Lennon (background vocals.)

Weil’s friendship with Sheldon is important. “Sheldon and I actually go way back. We used to play together, and years ago, I was the first full-length album he ever produced, which makes coming back together for these projects even more special. There’s a deep level of trust between us — he knows how to draw out performances that feel completely honest.” Adam released two college-era albums with his band, followed by two more in his early twenties under the name Rhythm Tree

He then moved to Los Angeles, where producer Marvin Etzioni produced his album Proof. During those sessions, Adam met bassist Sheldon, and their creative partnership began. Adam later released Out of the Blue on an indie label, followed by Expectation Bridge, Sheldon’s first full-length production. Though unreleased, it was a key creative milestone. After stepping away from music for years, Adam reunited with Sheldon last year to release Same As I Used to Be and A Little Broken.

Honey Motel - Mammoth Bones.

Honey Motel release the soulful final single ‘Mammoth Bones’ ahead of their anticipated new EP Motel FM (Due Feb 20th). Produced by Alec Brits (Clean Cut Kid, Michael Aldag, St Catherine’s Child), the EP bursts with character - from moments of heartfelt reflection to others of driving alternative rock intensity. ‘Mammoth Bones’ brings one of the most emotive moments on the EP, bringing a shimmering blend of neo-soul and drampop to the band's indie tendencies. From its bubbling downtempo mainstay, the track moves to a funk influence finally as a tasteful guitar solo tops the chopping rhythmic shift.

Talking about the EP, the band explain: “‘Mammoth Bones’ is about the beautiful absurdity of navigating life with someone who makes everything feel okay. It’s a reflection on how the chaos of the world seems to fade into the background when you’re side by side with the right person. The song explores that feeling of drifting through the universe with your person, so content and locked in that even if it all ended tomorrow, you wouldn’t mind. ‘Dying wouldn’t be so bad if it was with you.’ There’s a quiet, defiant peace in that idea. Love can make the noise fall away.

Musically, the song mirrors that journey. It begins steady and measured, then gradually opens up into something more expressive and free. It’s a love song at its core, just one that floats in space rather than walks the earth.” The upcoming 6 track EP ‘Motel FM’ showcases the Liverpool quartet’s radiant musicality and growth, blending elements of indie, alt-rock and alt-pop through a guitar led sound that is nuanced yet raw, capturing the essence of their live sound whilst delivering varied, at times intense and high octane, at others textural and emotive soundscapes.

Native Harrow - The A.M.s - Brenda Carsey - Land Of Pure - The Darts

Native Harrow - Old Kind Of Magic (New Album).

We are delighted to share the title track 'Old Kind of Magic', leading the way on the fifth long player from Native Harrow (their third for prestigious London based label, Loose). The album is described as "a sojourn on their passage between two lands; a luxuriant and fecund annunciation." Beehive Candy have featured them before and we were really impressed back then. Now we are blown away by the new collection of songs, both beautiful, thoughtful and wonderfully natural.

In the first days of 2021, the band known as Native Harrow landed seaside in Brighton, England. Its leaders, Stephen Harms and Devin Tuel, arrived with a few trunks worth of books, clothes, guitars, and microphones. Settling in at the very top of a crumbling regency building where the seagulls call to the sun's rise and fall each day, they thought “this is the perfect place to make a record.”

Immersing themselves in a new place filled with unfamiliar faces, sounds, and sights, the band fueled their creative voices on being strangers in a strange land and spent most of the year writing and recording the ten songs that would make up OKOM. From early mornings spent discovering the knurled hills of Albion and late nights dancing in London, to the quiet hum of building a home in the heart of the countryside, rediscovering love, letting go of things lost, taking a spiritual trip, riding the waves, and trudging through the mud to find freedom; this album spans a lifetime of lessons.

Harms and Tuel have self-produced a work that is simultaneously their most sweepingly expansive and delicately intimate album to date. It is at moments revelatory, and at others beautifully heartbreaking; a showcase of Tuel’s finest writing. Recording Old Kind of Magic themselves, they crafted an album that places itself distinctly between the two musicians and the tapestry of sounds they are regarded for.

The A.M.s - Ignite The Sky.

In 2019 on Piano Day, the 88th day of the year, Adrian happened to tune Mariko’s piano. He asked if she wanted to play together; she said maybe. Realizing she might be able to return to her long-lost passion, music, they connected and started rehearsing with the hopes of playing out. Before they ever got the chance he moved to California, and soon after COVID-19 shut everything down. But they kept playing and sending ideas. Now, with an extensive catalog of 50+ songs, they are releasing their first album, Ignite the Sky, recorded at Earwig Studio in Seattle, WA.

Ignite the Sky chronicles Mariko’s journey of finding her birth parents during COVID, while processing the events and struggles of 2020 in quarantine. The self-produced and mostly self-played collection of songs, save for their drummer, Jason Edwards, lends to the intimate nature of the album along with the acoustic instruments and vintage keys.

Using inspiration from nature, “Torn Vine” introduces others to the identity struggles of an adoptee, while “Biggest Wave” illustrates the immense weight of connecting to birth parents and discovering a love and loss so deep.  The upbeat latin groove of “15,000 Days” isn’t what it seems at first–rather, it was 15,000 days that had passed until Mariko and her birth parents reunited once again. “Ignite the Sky” the title track, encompasses many themes across the band, adoption, and quarantine: distance, loss, hopelessness, separation, but ultimately faith that stars will align again for reconnection in the future.

Brenda Carsey - Man Of Mine.

“Man of Mine” is the fourth and final single off of Brenda Carsey’s upcoming full-length studio album “Cognizance”. The song is a true Neo Soul/Jazz Pop song with delicious instrumentation that embodies the beauty and depth of a growing love. It begins with enticing and provocative notes of fleshy enjoyment and gives way to the kind of growing love that allows you to feel safe enough to be weak, to be seen, to be yourself and grow.

Carsey admits that she doesn’t usually write positive songs nor love songs but this song wrote itself and arose from the genuine gratitude she has for her partner. This song is for anyone and everyone who has ever experienced a deep feeling of love for someone. For your partner, your best friend, for your group, for yourself! All identities, all relationship styles – All love is beautiful! Let your love shine out into the world!

Brenda Carsey is a Los Angeles-based vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Her music has been described as brilliant, timeless, playful, and larger than life R&B/Soul and Progressive Pop. Carsey delivers an engaging, energetic show, with her unmistakably unique sound rooted in the classic pop diaspora. Carsey’s voice is uninhibited with a virtuosic range, mixing a syrupy sweet sound with a beautiful soulful darkness. She will stop you in your tracks with poetic lyrics, fluid melodies, engaging chord progressions, funky rhythms, and a voice filled with passion and soul.  She has recently released three new singles, all from her much anticipated upcoming full-length album "Cognizance" which is set for release at the top of 2023.

======================================================================

Land Of Pure - Places Without Colors.

The style of the Zurich newcomer band Land of Pure could be described as alternative rock. And yet, with their instrumental diversity, they clearly go beyond the scope of this genre: in their songs you can hear jazz trumpet solos, Highlander flutes, Japanese kotos and Indian sitars and tablas. Mixed with 80s synth, the result is a very multifaceted and intense listening experience.

The Asian influences in the music are no coincidence - singer Aaron lived in Asia for over 10 years, where he worked in various aid projects and social business start-ups and processed what he experienced there as a songwriter. After a solo album in 2018, «Land of Pure» grew into a six-piece band that now has its first album on the way with «King of Nothing».

The slightly dreamy-melancholic and at the same time expressive single «Places Without Colors» raves about the colorful and chaotic cities of Asia. Anyone who has ever traveled through such big cities or even lived there knows the incredible fascination that such a city exerts. And the desire to return there again and again.

The Darts - Love Tsunami.

The Darts formed in 2016 with the goal of making great all-girl garage-rock noise, seeing the world, and having a fab slumber party every night. They threw on some vintage black slips, threw off their shoes, and set out on the adventure.

In the first six months, they put out two self-produced EPs and signed with Dirty Water Records (UK). In the first year, the label put out their first full-length vinyl release, Me.Ow. They headed to Europe a bunch of times and never wanted to go home. But when they did, Dirty Water re-released the first two EPs as a second full-length vinyl, 'The Darts' and they toured all over the U.S. a bunch of times, with great bands like Australia’s The Living End and Billie Joe Armstrong’s The Longshot - and, once again, never wanted to go home. Their idols started noticing, including author Stephen King, actors Drew Carey and Fred Armisen, and punk legends Jello Biafra and Blag Dahlia, sometimes even coming to shows and getting on stage with us. Two years into the project, they were on bigger European stages like Sjockfest, Cosmic Trip, and Roots n Roses, with acts like Turbonegro, The Flaming Lips, and The Dead Kennedys.

In 2018, Jello Biafra signed the band to his label, Alternative Tentacles, and released their third full-length record, I Like You But Not Like That (2018 Alternative Tentacles Records), at a packed Punk Rock Bowling appearance in Las Vegas. They then embarked on an unforgettable coast-to-coast US tour with their heroes The Damned. They found themselves performing with bands like Rancid and L7, had songs placed on top tv shows like Peaky Blinders, got thrilling reviews in Rolling Stone, made a stop at Mexico City’s superb Hipnosis Fest, and then...the pandemic hit.

But even then, things didn’t stop. Vox hosted an Instagram Live show garnering over fifty thousand views, they played Punk Rock Bowling 2022, made their debut at Seattle’s uber-hip Freakout Fest, and recorded a new 7-inch for Adrenalin Fix Music, Dirty Water, Beluga, and Ghost Highway Recordings in Europe. By summer of 2022, we toured all over the US again, performed on the legendary KEXP Sessions, and finished recording a new full-length record (funded entirely by fans) co-produced by Jello Biafra himself. Snake Oil will be released on Alternative Tentacles in early 2023. European tours are lined up well into next year...and work is already beginning on the next record.

Cavalry - Paris Youth Foundation - Lauren Ray - The Darts

Cavalry - A Little Rough.

Background - Following on from the success of lead singles Heresy and Black, with both having attracted widespread acclaim throughout the online community, the band unveil the final two heartfelt and emotive tracks on the record (Cabin and A Little Rough), further showcasing their hallmark sound and songwriting prowess.

Discussing the EP release, the band stated: “We had a bittersweet run of singles last year with Fierce Panda - some really positive acclaim and some major radio airplay, but also some background missteps. We were restless to release more and resolved to cut our teeth on a larger project. And after months of tireless writing, recording up and down the country, ‘See The Night Perform’ is the first emblem of that period.

The EP title comes from the refrain at the end of ‘Black’, and typifies the loose concept, which is all about foraging intensely within to find hope and wonder in the cynical cycles of the modern age. But we're not ones to tell stories with our songs - if we're fortunate to have people listen, and listen deeply, we want them to import their own meanings. If there's one sign of music showing its power, it's that.

We're proud of the EP and the songs within, but proudest of the hallmark sound we've developed even more - simple, dark pop songs with a guitar-driven indie edge, an alt-folk heart, and post-rock drama and atmosphere". FACEBOOK.

The new 'See The Night Perform EP' really is a compelling collection of material. 'A Little Rough' is perhaps the gentlest song of the four, none the less the simmering emotion is just beneath the surface and the bands ability to ply the listener with melodic hooks is again clearly apparent.

Paris Youth Foundation - London.

Background - Liverpool’s newest up and coming guitar dreamers unleash new anthem London, an ode to heartache in the big smoke and laced with a glistening of glockenspiel. Following on from singles ‘Lost Cause and ‘Missing the Mark’, new track London juxtaposes a dark and despondent yearning love with an upbeat song structure that loops and woops it’s way through choruses with flourishing abandon. Potter’s lyrics yet again unveil a deep romanticism and vulnerability, a secret emotional weapon hidden behind bouncing melody and giving Paris Youth Foundation’s songs graspable depth and colour.

Following their debut show at Last year’s Reading Festival which had gained them the respects of Huw Stephens, the band has gone on to play all the major new music festivals including Hit The North, Live At Leeds, The Great Escape and Liverpool Sound City. They’ve not stopped throughout 2017, touring alongside Transgressive trio Blaenavon. Brighton’s indie rockers The Magic Gang, and hotly tipped grunge rockers Inheaven.

‘London’ was recorded and produced in its namesake by British producer Charlie Hugall who has previously worked on records for the likes of Florence and the Machine, Ed Sheeran and Lucy Rose. Lead singer Kevin Potter said, "London is a song that means an awful lot to me. It's the story of a long-distance breakup and is probably as personal as I've ever been. It's a song that wears its heart on its sleeve. The song was built around the line 'Does London love you as much as I do'. That line is the reason this song exists."

Since their debut play by Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, the band has been championed by Phil Taggart, Steve Lamacq, BBC Introducing, Abbie McCarthy, Alice Levine and John Kennedy.  They now wrap up a massive year with a sold out headline show at Liverpool’s Buyers Club on December 16th. Paris Youth Foundation is Kevin Potter (vocals), Jamie Hives (guitar), Tom Morris Jones (guitar), Paul Bates (bass) and Jonny Alderton (drums). FACEBOOK.

With a band name like Paris Youth Foundation I didn't know quite what to expect and the vibrant new song 'London' certainly exceeded any preconceived expectations. Gorgeous alt rock where every component part is performed with passion the band have something special going on here.

Lauren Ray - Two Days.

Background -  British Singer Songwriter Lauren Ray’s brand new single ‘’Two Days’ showcases her sweetly soulful vocals and touching lyrics.

Stepping away briefly from her usual piano led sound to lean into her Nashville/Americana influences such as Alison Krauss she confidently ticks all the right boxes for fans of classic singer songwriters.

Co-written with Martin Sutton (LeAnn Rimes, Pixie Lott), ‘Two Days’ is a beautifully written track about the two important days in everyone’s life; the day you are born and the day you know why – with a romantic twist to knowing why.

‘Two Days’ is laced with wintery and romantic touches and is a perfect early (8th) December release. WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.

The Nashville/Americana influences are more than welcome if the resulting effect is a song like 'Two Days.'  A light melodic musical setting with top musicianship provides a refined backdrop for Lauren Ray's equally melodic and gorgeous vocals.

The Darts (US) - Gonna Make You Love.

Background - The Darts recently released their debut LP, Me.Ow, via Dirty Water Records. A follow up to two well-received EPs, it features sludgy guitars, fuzz-soaked vocals, and a healthy dose of menacing organ and was described by Bandcamp as "grinding garage that sounds like a rock show at a haunted mansion."

The LA and Phoenix-based band -- which is made up of Nicole Laurenne (The Love Me Nots, Motobunny, Zero Zero), Rikki Styxx (The Dollyrots, The Two Tens, Thee Outta Sites), Christina Nunez (The Love Me Nots, Casual Encounters, The Madcaps) and Michelle Balderrama (Brainspoon) -- has now shared a video for album track "Gonna Make You Love," which features trippy visuals interspersed with live footage of the band commanding various stages.

Though they've only been playing together for a year, The Darts have already toured the US and Europe, been named "Best Local Band" by the Phoenix New Times, and made fans around the world, including Jello Biafra. They just wrapped up a US tour in support of their new release and plan to head back to Europe in the Spring/Summer of 2018 before releasing another full-length album later in the year. BANDCAMP, FACEBOOK.

The Darts were regular attendees on Beehive Candy earlier this year and the new music video for 'Gonna Make You Love' is more than enough reason to welcome them back. As per usual turn the volume up loud!!

Escape From Yesterday - Blondie - Noel Cowley - The Darts - Airpark - Frenship

Escape From Yesterday - Same Old Scene

Background - Escape From Yesterday are a four piece pop-punk band from Murray Bridge, South Australia. With tunes much to the style of bands such as Blink-182, Paramore and Fall Out Boy; Escape From Yesterday have taken the Adelaide music scene by storm in less than a year of forming. They are now ready to release their brand new single, Same Old Scene.

The track is about breaking out of your hometown and embarking on your own adventure. Inspired by the band members personal struggles, hopes and dreams, Same Old Scene displays the bands edgy yet approachable style. The combination of punk-rock and funk influences gives the band’s music a very “Funky Punky" vibe. Same Old Scene addresses some very relatable issues that young people face, and the band hopes that the themes in this song will inspire others to take a leap of faith and pursue their dreams.

Same Old Scene was recorded in a brand new studio that has been installed into local venue, The Station. It was recorded by members of Escape From Yesterday, and mixed by Jordan Holmes, vocalist and lead guitarist for the band. “Same Old Scene was written with the intention of inspiring others, but also ourselves” says Jordan, “Sometimes, we need to remind ourselves that we’re capable of more than we think, and we just need to believe in ourselves.”

This year, the band is working non-stop on a debut album, which will hopefully be “released by the end of 2017”. The demo version of their track Run Along has seen positive reviews with Music SA’s Matthew Hayward noting it as “a rousing call and response number featuring some heavy distortion and developing pop sensibilities”. Same Old Scene is rapidly becoming a fan favourite at their live shows. They carry with them heavy sounds and an exciting presence on stage. Pop-punk single ‘Same Old Scene’, due to be released April 28th. Facebook here.

'Same Old Scene' mixes robust guitar fronted rock with more melodic and appealing vocals. Put together they make for a top-notch song, one that suggests a second listen is in order, at the very least.

Blondie - Long Time.

Background - Blondie has premiered the video for latest single “Long Time,” off of the band’s 11th studio album Pollinator, out May 5th (BMG) “Long Time” is the third track from the remarkable new album that perfectly demonstrates the blend of Blondie's pioneering past with new influences from modern music's great innovators - the track is a collaboration between Debbie Harry and Dev Hynes (AKA Blood Orange).

Set in the city where Blondie's story began over four decades ago, the video for “Long Time,” sees the band in a chaotic, fast-paced New York City. Scenes flip between front woman Debbie Harry recklessly driving in a yellow cab and the band playing on the city streets. The video was shot and directed by Dikayl Rimmasch, who also worked with Beyonce on her Lemonade album videos and on her Formation World Tour. Rimmasch also directed the video for Pollinator's debut single “Fun”.

Blondie’s sound and sensibility is as fresh on Pollinator as when they first topped the charts. The band has enlisted an eclectic group of songwriters for their most collaborative album to date. Those offering their own interpretation of the band’s legacy include superstar Sia, British singer Charli XCX, Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio), Nick Valensi (The Strokes), Johnny Marr (The Smiths) and Canadian movie blogger and indie rocker Adam Johnston (an Unkindness). The LP, produced by John Congleton (Franz Ferdinand, St. Vincent, Sigur Ros) and recorded at NYC’s famed studio The Magic Shop, also features vocals from Joan Jett, cross dressing comedian and singer John Roberts and The Gregory Brothers (founders of Songify the News). Laurie Anderson appears on a special hidden track on the CD version.

Blondie will bring their one-of-a-kind live magic to the stage when they kick off their North American co-headlining Rage and Rapture Tour with Garbage on July 5th. The band has also announced a return to the iconic Roundhouse in London on May 3rd to celebrate the release two days later of their remarkable new album. Website here.

Many (many) years ago I went into my local record store to see if they had the brand new (debut) Blondie album. They did not and the shop manager was pretty underwhelmed when a younger version of me suggested they were going to be huge. I ordered a copy and a week later went back to collect. It was one of those fabulous moments when I could not get home quick enough to play it. Sadly like so many record stores it closed many years ago, Blondie on the other hand are still delivering the goods as 'Long Time' confirms. I'm looking forward to Pollinator, albeit without the youthful energy this time around.

Noel Cowley - Spring You Bring.

Background - "Stay-at-home-dad-singer-songwriter", to give Noel Cowley his full, snappy job title. This Londoner - and now honorary Essex man - who grew up in Ireland sees music as an essential accompaniment to his life as a parent, together with wife Katrina, of toddler triplets.

It's a far cry from two decades spent flitting in and out of service industry jobs while concentrating on living a musician's life outside of work hours. These days parenting is the focus with music the sideline, and both roles are the richer for it. If there's one continuous thread that runs through Noel's life in music, it's his writing, recording and performing partnership with younger brother Ewan Cowley, the Dublin based musician, producer and solo singer-songwriter/composer.

The two Irish brothers learned to play the guitar together as teenagers, busked pop hits in the streets of Derry and formed and fronted a glam-punkypop band (The Bexleys) in the early 2000s. Latterly they've been collaborating on Noel's solo music, their Beatles and Beatles-inspired influences such as Crowded House and Squeeze sustaining a love of creating easily hummable melodies married with emotive lyrics.

The culmination of the Cowley brothers' work together so far is Noel's debut album produced, arranged and co-written by Ewan. The album is set for release in the summer of 2017 on Indie label Nub Music and the first single from it, Spring You Bring, is out now. Website here, Bandcamp here.

With a sprightly piano rhythm and the impeccable vocals of Noel Cowley, 'Spring You Bring' is a bright uplifting song, given extra vigour as the music develops.

The Darts - You Got Me.

Background - Formed in 2016, The Darts are the explosive union of Nicole Laurenne (The Love Me Nots, Zero Zero, Motobunny), Rikki Styxx (The Dollyrots, The Two Tens, Thee Outta Sites), Christina Nunez (The Love Me Nots, The Madcaps, Casual Encounters), and Michelle Balderrama (Brainspoon).

The debut EP was self-released by the band on ten-inch vinyl in October 2016, with a second EP released in January 2017. The band signed to Dirty Water Records, which re-released the two EPs as one full-length digital album in January 2017. A second full-length album is very much anticipated this summer with six new tracks already in the can and another six almost ready.

“I knew it was special before it even was the beginning,” Nicole said of her new band. “These three women are musicians I have performed with for years and years, watching them and wanting to do this kind of project with them. When Michelle and I finally talked about writing some songs together for real in 2015, it was almost like a fully-formed idea in my head. And it has been so easy to make it all come to fruition, like nothing I’ve ever done before. Even just getting in a van with these people is special. They’re just fun, supportive, hilarious, goofy, and no one takes herself too seriously, which is a pretty hard quality to find in good musicians, if you ask me.”

With two tours of the southern and western United States with Oakland’s all-girl rock duo Steel Cranes and France's Weird Omen under their belts, the Darts are gearing up to take their music overseas for a European tour this May which Louder Than War Magazine describes as "dirty, rough around the edges, good ol’ dive bar rock n roll". Website here, Facebook here.

With some UK and European dates coming up in May and June (see our tour page) it seems like a good enough reason to feature The Darts again, this time with the rather potent 'You Got Me'.

Airpark - Plenty To Pine For.

Background - Last month, Nashville-based alternative pop/rock duo Airpark released their debut EP Early Works, Volume 1 via Eugenia Hall Records. The band have just shared their video for "Plenty To Pine For".

Raised in New Orleans, the Fords grew up surrounded by music, from the Crescent City's jazz to the soul of Irma Thomas and Allen Touissant. Later while living in Nashville, the two rekindled the music connection they'd kick-started back home, finding popularity as The Apache Relay performed alongside the likes of Jenny Lewis, Mumford & Sons and more. Michael and Ben move at a deliberately different speed with Airpark, thus finding new musical territory to explore.

Taking their cues from a wide set of influences — the rhythmic world music of Tinariwen and Lijadu Sisters; the production of Air, Damon Albarn, and Fiona Apple's The Idler Wheel; the tenor vocal range of Big Star's Alex Chilton and Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham, with the occasional pop crooner delivery of Harry Nilsson — the two unveil their new direction with Airpark's debut EP, Early Works, Volume 1.

It's a sound that targets the feet and the head. It's pop music for thinkers. It's dance music for wallflowers. And with the brothers pulling triple-duty as songwriters, multi-instrumentalists and co-producers, Early Works, Volume 1 is their most forward-thinking project to date, pairing the band's growing ambition with musical chops to match. Website here, Facebook here.

Our second feature for Airpark this time with 'Plenty To Pine For'. This is another beautifully crafted song, the duo's ability to write and perform intelligent pop to a high standard is notable, as is their commitment which gently drifts to the fore as the track develops. We featured their current tour dates on our tour page last time around.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Frenship - 1000 Nights.

Background - The new video from Frenship is entitled "1000 Nights". When talking about the video the duo states, "We originally had the idea for the video out on a camping trip in Stanley, Idaho. We had just received the song back from mastering and took the first listen on the shore of Lake Stanley at the base of McGown Peak. This place inspired the idea, look and feel for the 1000 Nights video. With the idea in place we sought out a director that could fully capture beautiful shots outdoors and filmmaker Matt Kleiner perfectly fit the bill for this.  The video was shot at Diablo Lake in Washington State." The 'Truce' EP is out now on Columbia.

There's a strong contrarian streak in Frenship, the Los Angeles-based duo of James Sunderland and Brett Hite. James grew up in Colorado and relocated to LA after 4 years of college studying production, where he was part of a DJ duo that didn't work out. Brett grew up in Spokane, Washington with a passion for soccer. An injury led him to discover a burgeoning interest in music and he began to play coffee shops and small venues after college as a singer/songwriter.

Brett and James met while working retail in LA and began to realize they each brought something to the table musically that the other could appreciate. They describe their hypnotic production as a combination of the twosome's affection for 80s-styled pop.

The duo signed on with Columbia Records and subsequently released their debut EP, Truce, in September 2016. Frenship's platinum-selling single “Capsize” was one of the most viral hits of 2016, surpassing 20 million streams in its first month and collecting over 300 million to date. Spotify crowned them #2 Breakout Artist of the year due to the song's chart performance. Facebook here.

'1000 Nights' might slowly fade in, however once the beat kicks in, alongside he distinct and gratifying vocals the song begins to standout. That might have been enough, however the chorus explodes into being, adding something of an anthem vibe taking a fine song even higher.

The Monday Mix: No Monster Club - Harlea - The Darts

No Monster Club - French Revolution / Life Is Flashing Before Your Eyes (Aardvark - Blessing).

Background from Bobby Aherne of No Monster Club - I'm here to tell you about the 'Encyclopedia Project' that I have planned for the foreseeable future: On the first of each month, I'll be releasing a new single (consisting of two songs) that'll be available for free download - or as 'pay what you like', should one be willing to throw some change into the virtual tips jar.

The first instalment arrived on January 1st, containing one new song and a cover of an amazing Vince Collins song from 1984. As I'll be utilising an alphabetical, encyclopedia-based naming scheme, issue #1 is entitled 'Aardvark - Blessing'.

My 2015 and 2016 albums ('People Are Weird' and 'I Feel Magic', respectively) were unanimously acclaimed ~ they were released by indie labels based in NYC & Chicago, and each picked up four stars from The Irish Times.  Website here.

Both 'French Revolution' and 'Life Is Flashing Before Your Eyes' are worth a feature and as I cannot make up my mind on which one to include, here are both of them. If we are going to receive a monthly double helping of indie music this good, then hopefully their virtual tipping jar will overflow!

Harlea - You Don't Get It.

Background - Birmingham born, North London raised Harlea has shared her new single ‘You Don’t Get It’ (6th Jan 2017) - a snarling second offering, which marries together crushing blues-inflected guitar work, with infectious pop-tinged vocal melodies.

Sparkling evidence that Harlea has truly found her voice, the new track - inspired by “the overt power of being a woman” is a ferocious affair, yet finely balanced in its delivery. Harlea went on to say this about the new single: "It's about living life on your terms and being true to yourself. You do what you want, when you want and how you want. It is defiant of a male world in which women are expected to fit. You either fit her world, her needs, her desires or you don't get her.”

There is only the careful and judicious release of music, when it’s ready and when Harlea is ready. The release of 'You Don’t Get It’ this week - a timeless, assured, sassy rock track that showcases Harlea’s sultry vocals as well as her songwriting ability - comes just ahead of her debut live show. Harlea was asked to perform at The Line Of Best Fit’s Five Day Forecast, which takes place at the Lexington on Friday 13th January and sold out within a week. With blues inspired riffs, and incessantly catchy female-led pop melodies, Harlea's thinking of 2017, and she’s also thinking of 2018. She’s in it for the long-haul, not the quick fix. Website here and Facebook here.

'You Don't Get It' has a bluesy and powerful rocking vibe running through its veins. Harlea's vocals are determined, suggesting that messing with her might be a bad idea, however adding enough melody to give the song some real edge.

The Darts - Revolution.

Background - The women -- singer and keys player Nicole Laurenne, guitarist and singer Michelle Balderrama, bassist and singer Christina Nunez and drummer and singer Rikki Styxx -- aren’t afraid of having a little fun with their image, to the extent that their chosen band description on their Facebook page reads, “Garage-psych-rock-grrls who will make your head slam and your feet shake. And then there’s the music.”

While The Darts offers a new creative outlet for the ladies, all are already seasoned musicians. Laurenne and Nunez are both veterans of the recently-disbanded Love Me Nots, Styxx has kept the beat with The Dollyrots and Balderrama is a member of the long-running Los Angeles band Brainspoon. One of the standout tracks on The Darts is “I Want Your Fun,” a hook-filled pop rocker that’s equal parts pink bubblegum and black nylon and that includes the line “Kiss me like you’re leaving town,” a lust that’s palpable throughout the record.

The Darts are about to begin a US nationwide tour that’ll keep them on the road through January; after a bit of a break they’ll return to touring in March. Website here, Facebook here.

It was only last month we were saying just how good The Darts EP was and now we have their new self-titled debut album, due January 13 on Dirty Water Records. Second track 'Revolution' typifies the energy and exuberance The Darts can pack into every song. Sometimes full on garage rock with plenty of hooks and enough melodic variations to keep everything interesting, this is one genuine rock'n'roll LP.
