Jo Yonderly - Mark Elliott - Turkey The Bird - Souly Us - Loumy - William The Conqueror - Kalbells

Jo Yonderly - Dead inside the inside.

The long time missing underground artist Jo Yonderly has finally been found! After years of searching, the man behind the mystical and enchanting demos that reached the Rama Lama HQ some time ago have been tracked down in Malmö, Sweden.

This with great help from Djoana Djones who is currently making a documentary about the journey, the first teaser is available to see here. ‘Dead inside the inside’ is the first track to reach the public’s ears from a forthcoming debut album.

‘Dead inside the inside’ is something you’d imagine to be a classic, but hard to define from what decade, or is it even from the future? It hits you right from the start and as the title line echoes in eternity you really get the feeling of being “dead inside”.

We asked Jo Yonderly to describe Dead inside the inside for this press release and he said: "I generally don't like blogs and papers, and so it evens out, but if you have to quote me, tell them it's about the abscense of mental health".

Dead inside the outside is out now on all platforms through Rama Lama Record.

Mark Elliott - Talk to Yourself.

Mark Elliott's “Talk to Yourself” The Runaway Home member’s latest single begins with a mellow guitar intro evocative of Chris Stapleton’s Jazzmaster on “Tennessee Whiskey.”  The groove will immediately bring you into the bluesy, guitar-forward, country space occupied by Keith Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color” and Hunter Hayes’ “Rainy Season.” However, “Talk to Yourself” is far from a sad song about a downhearted girl or a failing relationship.

It’s a heartfelt, comforting waltz that reassures you “it’ll all work out if you try” and treat yourself like a good mother or kind friend would. With his earnest, soulful voice, Elliott comes across as exactly such a figure. Accompanied by American Idol alum Melinda Doolittle, the Americana singer-songwriter delivers just the track we need to help us recover from a long and hectic year.

Mark Elliott is a Nashville-based singer, songwriter, author, and principal vocalist/guitarist for the Americana band Runaway Home. He has written for some of Nashville’s top publishing houses, including Sony-Tree, Maypop, and Bluewater Music. He’s a winner of the coveted Kerrville New Folk Award and had songs covered by both indie and major-label artists. Mark’s book, The Sons of Starmount: Memoir of a Ten-Year-Old Boy, is out in paperback and audiobook.

Turkey The Bird - Cave Rave.

Turkey The Bird, the band feat. Andre Manella from Switzerland is on guitar, is New Zealand's answer to Simon & Garfunkel (if & was a musician too). They write catchy folk songs with stunning rich melodies. Songs that tell uplifting stories about love and life. You can hear them on their new single 'Cave Rave'. But this time, life proved its quite dramatic side.

Cave Rave is based on a true story. It's a song about a sailing trip through the Pacific in 2014, when their boat «Sol» was hit by a storm. The trio remembers those days in serious trouble: «Our yacht was beached and scrapped. Whilst waiting for rescue, a number of small people gave us refuge in their dwelling. It was a home carved by hand into the side of a cliff, and this is a song in their memory.»

Turkey The Bird are spread around the globe, creating beautiful three part harmonies and toe tapping rhythms: Andre Manella from Switzerland is on guitar, bass and percussion. Adrian Whelan from Ireland is on guitar, bass and spoons, and Sol Bear Coulton, the token kiwi, on Banjo.

Souly Us - Everything Has Changed.

Rising Australian country duo Souly Us have released the music video for their latest single “Everything Has Changed.” The video, which features gorgeous scenes of members Ben and Kate performing on the Aussie shores, made its Australian debut on MTV and CMT last night. The corresponding single was recorded by the couple in lockdown and was released this past December on all digital and streaming platforms.

“Everything Has Changed” combines the duo’s signature country sound with a strong indie influence to create a truly unique and captivating soundscape. The song opens up with bright acoustic guitar and clean electric guitar accompanied by a locked-in rhythm section. Kate’s vocals provide a beautiful and soothing melody to complement the instrumentals. Considering how mellow the beginning of the song is, it feels fitting that the corresponding scenes of the music video are set in the couple’s home.

The chorus finds the 2020 Akademia Music Award winners barefoot on the rocky beaches of their hometown singing about how “everything has changed.”

“We are from Inverloch, a beautiful coastal town in southern Victoria, Australia. Living by the beach has definitely had an influence on the music we create, especially lyrically. We often speak of beach surroundings and we even go there to write sometimes! It’s amazing the inspiration that comes to you just by sitting there, breathing in the ocean air and watching the waves hit the shore.” - (Ben Mawdsley, Souly Us)

Loumy - What I Need.

Her last singles made it into the playlists of various radios, even abroad. Now Zurich-based Loumy is following this success with «What I Need», her intense dreampop-inspired ep. Rarely you hear such intimate and dreamy music coming from Switzerland, in the feel of Heather Nova.

«What I need», the leading-song of the ep, is about self-sabotage and represents a conversation between Loumy's reasonable, rational side and her emotional, impulsive one. While the emotional side has known for a long time that certain things are not working, she still is holding on them, looking for reasons and explanations. Meanwhile all rational warnings are set to fail.

Loumy's career started writing her own songs at the age of 15. Soon she founded the duo Tales of Two with a friend. First concerts and an EP followed. For three years now Loumy has been pursuing her solo career, which led to the release of her first single «December» in 2019.

Winning a singer-songwriter competition of HoneyBee Records, Loumy got the chance to record one of her own songs with five other artists in early 2020: «Moonlight» once marked the beginning of her career. One she's now continuing with her new ep «What I need».

William The Conqueror - Quiet Life.

Acclaimed UK band William The Conqueror announce their new album Maverick Thinker will release on March 5th through Chrysalis Records. The band also shared their new single "Quiet Life," a charming, slow-building lament that broadens out like a rolling landscape with a fuzz and crunch that gets toned down for something altogether more reflective.

Of the new single, frontman Ruarri Joseph stated, "With 'Quiet Life,' we wanted to step outside the sound of the trio and build some walls, add some layers for this one. It's a trippy, fuzzy wander down someone else's memory lane, so we went cinematic."

"The video is a time capsule of a very strange morning back in March 2020," he continued. "My friend and filmmaker Luke had just arrived in LA from Sydney to shoot some super 8 of us in the studio, but as soon as he arrived, the studio shut down and we all had to leave. We had a few hours before our new flights, so we headed to Venice Beach thinking it'd be a cool, buzzing place to get some shots and turn some film over. I guess having been in the studio bubble for the past week, we hadn't had a reference for this 'pandemic' we kept hearing about. Wandering around an empty Venice Beach was a rough landing for sure. Consider the bubble well and truly burst. And full props to Luke for flying from Sydney to LA and back in the space of two days and not complaining once (at least not to us anyway)."

Maverick Thinker was recorded out in LA (alongside producer Joseph Lorge) at the legendary Sound City Studios right ahead of last year's March lockdown, and put the band behind the glass and treading the same carpet as Nirvana, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, and Fleetwood Mac. A cursory listen to this new record suggests they might well have inhaled the spirit of them all. But to compare them with the greats does the West Country's William The Conqueror a disservice for they sound unlike any of the above. These are slinky, swampy rock 'n roll songs, razor sharp, dripping with the blues and an oft sardonic vocal delivery by Ruarri, the band's songwriter chief and lead vocalist. Written in the English countryside, it's made for sticky basement bar room stages where they dare to come alive with a vision of bigger rooms and broader stages. Taking that zest to tape has lost none of that fervour.

Kalbells - Purplepink.

Kalbells—led by Kalmia Traver (of Rubblebucket) with her bandmates Angelica Bess (Body Language), Zoë Brecher (Hushpuppy, Sad13), and Sarah Pedinotti (Okkervil River, LipTalk)—have announced the release of their sophomore album Max Heart, out March 26 on NNA Tapes.

Max Heart explores what happens when we let go of what doesn’t serve us in order to leave space for the blessings that do. The album’s ten vibrant and subtly layered tracks of mesmerizing psychedelic synth pop (co-engineered with Luke Temple) were birthed from the band’s practice of listening and accountability, rejoicing in their queerness, and promoting each other to be their most genuine selves. Max Heart is a portrait of badass women harnessing their improvisational magic.

A prime example of Kalbells furthering their sum energies is the effervescent funk of lead single “Purplepink,” out today. Co-written between Traver, Bess, and Pedinotti, a hyper synth bass darts around elongated keyboard sighs. The video, conceptualized and directed by Lisa Schatz, features 3D animated rocket ships, faceless furry creatures, a 30 foot glittery hologram of Maddie Rice (Jon Batiste’s Stay Human, Saturday Night Live Band) shredding on guitar, and Kalbells as warrior space queens. Read the full bio here.

Max Heart is available to pre-order on standard black & "Salty Pickle" green vinyl, as well as on compact disc and digital formats here. The album will be available on "Red Marker" red vinyl exclusively from local indie record stores.

Home Counties - Mush - Minor Moon - The Mandevilles

Home Counties - Modern Yuppies.

Home Counties release their new single "Modern Yuppies", the first of two self-produced singles to be released via Alcopop! Records – following hot on the heels of the band’s debut EP ‘Redevelopment’ which arrived in September 2020.

“Modern Yuppies”, premiered earlier today on Matt Wilkinson's Apple Music 1 show, sees the band move away from the indie guitar-laden sound of their debut EP, and instead embrace their playful aptitude for synth-driven, post-funk hooks.

Speaking on the shift in direction, singer Will Harrison commented: "Synths and drum machines were already something we were very keen to explore and 2020 provided us with an unexpected amount of free time to experiment. We dialled the disco influences up to the max and totally embraced that 70’s-cop-drama vibe for this pair of stand-alone singles. It feels like a bold declaration of who we are and it definitely gives a clearer taste of where we’re heading for our next EP”.

Since forming in January 2020, the band have distinguished themselves as a key act to watch, with radio support from Huw Stephens and Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1), Amy Lame and Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) and Matt Wilkinson (Beats 1), along with press support from DIY Magazine, Loud & Quiet, NME, Clash Magazine, So Young Magazine, YUCK, Gigwise and more.

With regards to the single’s lyrical content, Will commented: “The song is a comparison between the young urban professionals of the 1980s to those of today. It discusses the differences, the way that arrogance and conservatism have made way for self-doubt and socially ‘liberal’ political positions. Ultimately however, they are both plagued by the same condition - of constantly needing more.”

“Modern Yuppies” provides an exciting first glimpse of a band evolving beyond their indie roots by combining their aptness for angular guitar work with a more flamboyant sonic vision that somehow sounds eccentrically retro whilst being bizarrely surrealistic.

Home Counties are: Will Harrison (vocals/guitar), Conor Kearney (guitar/vocals), Barn Peiser Pepin (synth/percussion/vocals), Sam Woodroffe (bass/synth) and Dan Hearn (drums).

Mush - Seven Trumpets.

Leeds-based art-rock trio, Mush who are releasing their new single "Seven Trumpets" – it's the latest to be lifted from their new album, Lines Redacted which drops on Feb 12 via Memphis Industries.

Lines Redacted sets a different tone from their 2020 debut, 3D Routine (tipped in Rough Trade's Best Albums of 2020 and at Stereogum, BBC 6, Loud & Quiet, Uncut, Q, Paste, DIY, etc) – the first record was very much a product of its environment – in part sculpted by the band's often fraught live shows with Girl Band, The Lovely Eggs and Stereolab – looking to weigh in on the very real socialist option that was on the table in the UK at the time, this new one is something of the present-day dystopia, documenting the redacted and confusing environment that we now live in. We announced the record in November 2020 with the first single "Blunt Instruments" which had some nice tips at NPR, The Line of Best Fit, Brooklyn Vegan, Alt Citizen, Loud & Quiet, etc – it also bagged the 6 Music playlist and was tipped by Jack Saunders at Radio 1 (tipped the band as his "Next Wave").

Dan Hyndman, the main songwriter of the band, has written the album – dubbed a "Manifesto for Misinformation" – as something of a loose concept record with several protagonists telling different dystopian tales across its 12 tracks. It poses as a sarcastic reflection on the world around us using cynicism as a form of coping mechanism with a razor-sharp. Despite zero opportunity to tour this year, Mush have remained prolific releasing a duo of EPs and now two albums in just under a year with this latest record finding Lee Smith (The Cribs, Pulled Apart By Horses) tackling mixing duties.

Minor Moon - No Lightning Fix.

Minor Moon--the Chicago-based folk rock / alt-country / cosmic Americana group led by multi-instrumentalist Sam Cantor--will release Tethers, their third full length album, on March 26 via Ruination Record Co. & Whatever's Clever.

Tethers came out of a period of upheaval for Cantor, a time where he had to confront uncomfortable personal realities. Following the disorienting dissolution of a long-term relationship, he sought help from regular therapy sessions and the wisdom of close friends and family, and slowly gained some clarity and steady footing. This process led to Cantor constructing a psychedelic and knotty sci-fi world in his lyrics in order to write about what he was going through with more freedom and imagination. "Minor Moon songs have always had this arc of discovery and I've always used them as a way to dive into really personal, philosophical, or emotional problems," says Cantor. "It's about finding some truth looking inward."

"No Lightning Fix," out today, serves as a thesis statement for Tethers, as the song's narrator finds himself lost in a spiritual purgatory with no obvious way out. Accompanied by intricate fingerstyle guitar and warm-hued swells of organ, steel guitar, and backing vocals, the narrator accepts that there is no easy solution to their quandary--"no lightning fix," that is--before the track zig-zags into a Ry Cooder esque choogle and fades away to watery strings. Featuring V.V. Lightbody on backing vocals and Macie Stewart (of Ohmme) on violin, "No Lightning Fix" is an instance of progressive songwriting and layered story-telling with an earthy, alt-country influenced palette of sounds.

Tethers will be released on March 26 on soft red vinyl, limited edition tapes and CDs, and on digital formats.

The Mandevilles - Lightning.

It’s been more than five years since the release of our last record, Windows and Stones. We took our time because we wanted to. Sure, that sounds selfish and a bit self-indulgent, but it’s true. The songs on this record have been in the making for the better part of two years.

We cultivated such an amazing working and personal friendship with our co-producer Neil Morrissey, and his former bandmate Ryan Defoe over the last two years. The writing, recording, and production process has never felt so natural. Neil and Ryan’s style of writing and arrangement was very similar to ours, so it was an instant connection.

This record features a lot of experimentation. We got to stretch our repertoire out and really get to use everyone’s abilities in a way that we haven’t before. The songs really came to life because nobody knew what was about to happen. You’ll hear a difference, but know that everything you hear was thought of, and is there because we wanted it to be.

We’ll be releasing tracks from the album with a still-to-be-determined release date for the rest of the record.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,

Serena, Dan, Nick, Brett, and Taylor

Kristina Stazaker - Psymon Spine - The Barettas - Amy Speace

Kristina Stazaker - Silence and Slumber.

Kristina Stazaker released her new album, Follow Me, on the 18th of December 2020. The artist, who has drawn favourable comparisons to such luminaries as PJ Harvey, Anna Calvi, Tori Amos & Kate Bush, writes songs filled with raw emotion that guides the listener through rough, dark seas and enables them to explore mystical realms.

Silence and Slumber
In his dreams, he is laughing and playing his songs
To the crowds who adore him, throwing roses and cheers
In his dreams, he's the king of his land
But when he wakes up, to the nightmare he goes

Kristina Stazaker is a UK-based Singer/Songwriter who has been performing for over 5 years now as a side project and passion. Since 2015, She has been bringing her unique solo and acoustic sounds to crowds wherever she can. Showcased as "feministic anti-folk which nobody can actually describe", her muses have roots in old-time folk, punk and alternative indie.

Her captivating performances take the audience back to when deep nature and primal instinct ruled our lifestyles. The performances take you from the woodland to the sea and the time signature changes provide turbulence in the audiences' journey.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Psymon Spine - Jumprope.

Psymon Spine have shared their new single and music video “Jumprope.” The track features Psymon Spine vocalist Sabine Holler  delivering clever commentary on city life (which can be demanding and constant, not unlike jumprope-ing) over a driving beat and funk-inspired bassline that calls to mind LCD Soundsystem and Talking Heads.

Sabine Holler explains how the Jennifer Medin-directed video came about: “Due to Covid restrictions, I’ve been staying in Germany (where I lived before coming to New York) while the rest of the band is in the states. We asked Jen to come up with an idea for a music video that would connect us between continents. Jen joined the rest of the band in Montauk, where they were staying at our friend’s beach house, working on new music.

Meanwhile in Berlin, I had my two (also very talented) friends Alicia Perez and Maria Arespacochaga film and direct me doing my parts per Jen’s overall vision. We thought the brutalist German architecture, along with my angular dance/exercise moves, would be a funny contrast to the soft fall colors of Montauk where the boys were at the time.”Fusing psychedelic pop and the deep grooves of dance music, Psymon Spine’s music oozes with melodic hugeness—but the places this Brooklyn electronic pop outfit takes their songs is truly out there, exploring complicated feelings through a singular approach to left-of-center dance sounds.

Only a year ago, band members Noah and Sabine were playing in the dream-pop group Barrie, who broke out following a string of buzz-making singles, but Charismatic Megafauna proves that Psymon Spine are on a different journey, exploring sounds ranging from disco to early techno and motorik's incessant pulse. Psymon Spine put their own addictive stamp on the sounds of the past, with surprises at every turn and the type of lush synth work that could only come from brilliant students of dance music. Reflecting optimism and catharsis, Charismatic Megafauna is a heady trip through left-field pop that packs its own emotional wallop.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Barettas - Touchè.

Hamilton rock duo The Barettas have returned with a new single, “Touché”. The track is an upbeat pump up song that’s been paired with a performance video.

If you like the novelty of a dynamic duo you’re in the right place! The Barettas have been resurrected and are back from the grave.

And we’re aiming right in between the music industries eyes! Bang Bang, baby.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amy Speace - There Used To Be Horses Here.

Looking back on a twelve-month span between her son’s first birthday and the loss of her father, award-winning singer and songwriter Amy Speace culled eleven new songs directly from her depth of personal experiences—childhood memories, coming of age in New York City, and losing a parent while learning to become one—to create her new full-length album, There Used to Be Horses Here; out April 30th on Proper Records/Wind Bone Records. While many of the subjects on the album are heavy, There Used to Be Horses Here isn’t a sad record. Instead, it’s a direct reflection of that year in Speace’s life, propelled by a playwright’s eye for detail, a performer’s gift of vocal delivery, a poet’s talent for concise writing, and the extraordinary musicianship of collaborators, The Orphan Brigade. The end result is a sum much greater than its parts; a calling card for fans and critics alike to ask themselves whether Speace still fits only into the folksinger box she’s long been placed in—or perhaps, with this new album, she deserves to be seen in a new light.

In its most powerful moments, There Used to Be Horses Here sets Speace’s majestic voice to symphonic arrangements, yet her songwriting remains intimate and emotional. As a fan and friend of the Nashville band The Orphan Brigade, she invited its three members—Neilson Hubbard, Ben Glover, and Joshua Britt—to collaborate as songwriters and co-producers, inspired by their persistent rhythms and sweeping sonic palette. Remembering her vocal sessions, Speace says simply, “While I was singing over what those guys were playing, it made me feel like I was flying.” Speace observes that every vocal performance on the album is the first or second take, and that the musicians in the room are finding their way in the moment. The approach sums up her goal as a producer: “You need to make sure you press ‘Record’ while musicians are fumbling, because while they’re trying it out is when the magic happens. You should never let anything be perfect.”

There Used to Be Horses Here is an album and exhibition of songcrafting that Speace is immensely proud of. “The best songs I have written have been since my son was born when I thought I was going to lose all creative powers to mothering—and it didn’t happen,” she says. “It kicked it into high gear and made me think, ‘I may not have much time left on the planet. Maybe I should just get to the point.’” When There Used to Be Horses Here winds down to its end, listeners will look back over the eleven-song journey to see Speace’s knack for vibrant storytelling and ability to capture hardship in beautiful detail on display; her craft sharper and more meaningful than ever before.

There Used to Be Horses Here In Amy’s Words: “A month after I turned 50, I gave birth to my son, Huckleberry. My father was present for the birth and held him within hours. My Dad was 81 years old and we both knew my Dad would not see my son grow up. In the year between my son’s birth and my father’s death, these songs spilled out of me. I grieved in writing. I wanted to illuminate my father and his stories, from the horse farm near his home that was bulldozed to make room for condos (“There Used To Be Horses Here”) to his memory of a car ride that came back to him in a dream the night before he died (“Down The Trail”) to a photograph found in an old album (“Father’s Day”). I wrote to my son as I nested with him in the morning (“One Year”, “Mother Is A Country”). I sang to our ailing world as the pandemic raged around us (Warren Zevon’s “Don’t Let Us Get Sick”).

Kate Koenig - Anya Hinkle - Tamara Williamson

Photo: Samantha Singh
Kate Koenig - Fell to stone.

Kate Koenig is a very hungry experimental-folk caterpillar that eats Fleet Foxes’ progressivism and Kate Bush’s iconoclasticism and Jeff Buckley’s zeal and Leonard Cohen’s disenchantment, and is still eating while you read this bio.

She is also a fierce advocate for mental health awareness, which comes out in the deeply personal, introspective theater of her music.

Based in Brooklyn, she’s played at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom, Pete’s Candy Store, Pianos, Niagara, and Under St. Mark’s Theatre.

In June of 2019, she released her debut album, Haircuts for Barbers, which can be found on all streaming platforms. On January 31st she will be releasing her sophomore album Etemenanki.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anya Hinkle - I Belong to the Band.

Sometimes even the most determinedly original artist finds a song from another source that speaks to her circumstances so powerfully that she must find a way to make it her own. For Organic Records’ Anya Hinkle, the passage of time and events has only made her new single, “I Belong To The Band,” even more meaningful, and there’s no one better equipped to tell its story than the singer/guitarist herself.

“I discovered ‘I Belong To The Band’ thanks to my friend and clawhammer banjo master John Herrmann, who gave me a recording of it by their old-time band, The Ruglifters,” she says. “The song resonated so deeply with me for its simplicity, its inclusiveness, and the sense of gratitude it imparts. It was written by Rev. Gary Davis and originally recorded with his signature fingerstyle blues guitar and powerful voice.

“When the personnel in my band Tellico turned over early in 2019, I began transitioning to performing under my own name. But I still had a full calendar of band shows I was scheduled to perform, including a European tour and official showcases at IBMA.

“I wasn’t exactly sure how I would pull it all off,” Hinkle continues, “but I somehow managed to find a group of musicians that showed up for me in every possible way that I needed. They allowed me to experience music with more gratitude than I have ever felt, making the best music I’ve ever made in my life, and the best I’ve ever felt making it. We performed this song at every show that we played.

“When Billy Cardine and I sat down to arrange it for the studio, Billy laid down a dobro lick that emanated from his joyful and fun-loving spirit. When we added Julian Pinelli (fiddle), Thomas Cassell (mandolin), Johnny Calamari (bass), and a 3-part gospel chorus of Mary Lucey, Julian Pinelli and myself, it intuitively had a swingy, playful, joyful New Orleans string band sound that really captures the feeling we discovered playing together last year. I sang 'Hallelujah, I belong to the band!' with all my heart when we walked into Crossroads Studio to record it with help from Jon Weisberger (producer) and Van Atkins (engineer).

“We have had so much and so many taken from us this year by COVID-19,” Hinkle concludes, “and our gratitude for those that have stood by us and been there for us during this difficult time is deeper than ever. We are grateful to those that have been essential workers and health care workers, and we acknowledge all of those that are struggling so hard to keep things together every way that they possibly can. We are going to get through this.

The Neighbourhood Watch - POSTDATA - Revelry

The Neighbourhood Watch - Focus Up.

"Focus Up," the first single to be shared from their forthcoming new record, Lost in Bloom, is about how it can be hard to keep friendships intact as you grow up and need to make selfish decisions more often.

Based in Toronto, The Neighbourhood Watch have spent the last three years riding on beginner’s luck. Whether it was learning to play their instruments while writing their first album Community Protected, or stumbling through the production of their second record Goodbye Childhood, the Neighbourhood Watch love to grow alongside their music.

In their latest record, Lost in Bloom, the band pairs melody-driven songwriting with ambitious arrangements to tell a story about abandoning arrogance, resenting the people we loved, and being scared of growing up.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

POSTDATA - Nobody Knows.

POSTDATA, the solo music project of Wintersleep frontman/songwriter, Paul Murphy, is to return on March 5, 2021, with his third record, Twin Flames (out via Paper Bag Records). Following in the wake of the Brooklyn Vegan-tipped album-titled single, Paul is today sharing the new track "Nobody Knows" which was recently described by The Guardian as "a song that sounds as if it’s surfing an avalanche on a copy of Rumours" – listen to "Nobody Knows" here.

A breathtaking and introspective new album, brimming with deep wonderings and intricately excavated soundscapes, Twin Flames – which comes co-produced by Bristol-based Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Perfume Genius, Portishead) – borrows its namesake from the centerpiece song on the album. Twin Flames is about a storm, but perhaps more importantly, it’s also about a fire burning through it. Paul says that being in a storm can be a freeing and powerful experience. “You’re navigating this place…you can’t really see super far in front of you,” he says. “I kinda like that place.”

"Nobody Knows", which premiered at Under The Radar Magazine, is an infectious late night kitchen-party acoustic bop that finds Murphy rhyming off a laundry list of his faults and failings: “I’m not good when the party’s packed/I’m not good when there’s nobody left/I’m not good when I’m all by myself, I fear for my health.” Murphy is joined on the second verse by affirmations of “Not good!” Hollered by a backing chorus line of friends and family.

"I wrote "Nobody Knows" on a sunny afternoon – one of those songs that just comes easy, all the lyrics and melodies done in a few hours," explains Murphy. "I think lyrically I was making light of the fact that I often don’t feel comfortable and content in situations... looking at the negative side of things when there are so many positive ways to look at life. I think in this era of social media where people feel the pressure to present their lives in the most perfect light, it felt like a really appropriate sentiment, a little bit of a bite back. You can present yourself in a certain way, but it doesn’t mean that’s the reality of the situation, or who you are or what you’re feeling.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Revelry - Dirty (live).

Revelry have made quite the first impression with their sultry new single “Dirty”  the Murfreesboro-based southern rockers' debut track. It’s now available on all digital and download streaming platforms.

From the moment you hear that wailing slide guitar riff, you know that Zack Montgomery, Redd Byrd, Jordan Whorley, Dane Lovvorn, and Lucas Vincent mean what they say when they tell you they’re "down to get dirty". The combination of Montgomery’s gritty southern rock vocals and Byrd and Whorley’s overdriven guitars makes for a raw, high-energy debut that’ll keep listeners on their toes. The band’s enthusiasm about bursting onto the scene comes through loud and clear.

"When we first started playing dive bars in town, it was always late nights, drunk fights, and beautiful women. Some would say we are nasty, we say, "we're down to get dirty". -Revelry

With its distinctive retro flair, “Dirty” harkens back to the days of Led Zeppelin and Lynyrd Skynyrd. It’s sure to satisfy anyone with an appetite for unabashed rock ‘n' roll. Though the members of Revelry primarily aim to revive the ‘70s southern rock they were raised on, they can’t help but indulge their country leanings from time to time.

“With most of us hailing from around Nashville, you can also find some country influences in there. The line ‘My boots will look good under your bed’ was inspired by the Shania Twain song ‘Whose bed have your boots been under?’” - Zack Montgomery (Lead Singer, Revelry)

Despite only being together for a year, these five self-taught musicians have already proved that they have a handle on what it takes to create a memorable, hard-hitting track.

Dylan Brierley - Briana Dinsdale - The School Book Depository - The Sonder Bombs

Dylan Brierley - Not Alone.

From Dylan - "My name is Dylan Brierley and I am a singer/songwriter. I have been performing covers and my own songs for around 10 years. I am currently releasing 6 new singles for my E.P."

Now an established acoustic singer, guitarist and songwriter, Dylan is completely at home as an entertainer. His music has a unique style he really shines when delivering his own music.

“Not Alone”  was written from a very strange time in my life when lots of things were changing very quickly, but the people around me helped me get through. I wrote this because I think it could help a lot of people.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Briana Dinsdale - Ball and Chain.

At only 17 years old, Briana Dinsdale is an emerging country music singer-songwriter based in Brisbane, Australia. She has been singing since she was 8 and writing since she was 10. She tells stories about her personal life experiences through unique lyrics combined with a melody which appeals to a wide range of listeners.

Briana has been able to play at multiple country music festivals around Queensland and New South Wales such as the Gympie Music Muster, Brisbane's Ekka, and the Tamworth Country Music Festival. She was privileged to have been crowned the 2019 CCMA National Junior Songwriter of the Year at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

Ball and Chain is Briana Dinsdale's debut single. The song is targeted at modern country music listeners, particularly teenagers and young adults, in trying to get a message out that you have to let go of things in life (whether it is a person or a habit) in order to move on. This song is to inspire young people to keep going for their dreams and to help them know to not let others influence how they do what they love.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The School Book Depository - Tornado.

The school book depository is an imaginary storage facility where the Swedish musician and songwriter Fredrik Solfors releases his songs and videos. In April 2017 The School Book Depository released its debut album, a bunch of songs recorded in his home studio in Växjö, Sweden during 2016.

The motto for this project has always been ”it’s my party, I can do what I want”, in order to embrace all forms of creative outlet both musically and lyrically. The songs range from groovy, psychedelic hip hop to noisy and catchy garage pop and beautiful, atmospheric post-rock.

The album received a lot of good reviews both in Sweden and internationally. In 2019 the second album ”Bob and the Pitchfork Mob” was released and praised for its shameless diversity of creative takes on themes, genres and lyrics in both music and videos, all made in the same charming DIY-spirit as the debut album. Both albums placed in the top five of best albums 2017 and 2019 by the music site ”The Nordic Music Review”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Sonder Bombs - k.

The Sonder Bombs’ upcoming album Clothbound weaves a narrative of loss, letting go, and losing patience with losers – and 'K.' certainly falls into the latter. Streaming everywhere today, the song makes masterful use of the band’s acerbic wit with instrumentals that match the inner turmoil, firing off all cylinders while winking to hardcore and metal.

'K.' is the latest to be released from Clothbound, the Cleveland band’s highly-anticipated new album, following 'Crying Is Cool' and 'The One About You'. Produced in Philadelphia during quarantine with Joe Reinhart (Hop Along, Beach Bunny), Clothbound captures a band burning at both ends – and it’s working.

For The Sonder Bombs, self-confidence starts when it crosses paths with self-analysis. Their debut defined a new era of socially conscious, unapologetic pop punk. The alt-folk quartet began as a duo in 2016, with Hawks and her writing partner Jimmy Wilkens trading off abrasive and melodic punches against a DIY universe which places gender politics at the bottom of a list of priorities.

Now, the Cleveland quartet have doubled down on their second record. 2018’s debut. MODERN FEMALE ROCKSTAR was their first bet: an all-caps attack against a male-dominated scene brandishing a ukulele and dry wit as chosen weapons. A year and some change passed, where their relentless touring ethic and tough love caused a homegrown fan base to explode worldwide. Clothbound, like the title suggests, weaves a different narrative—one of loss, letting go, and losing patience with losers. If the first record introduced unapologetic sensitivity, Clothbound searches for the root causes of other key elements.

Blending together the folksy and the fiery can be cartoonish if not executed properly. On paper, adding a ukulele to a pop-punk band’s arsenal seems like an eyebrow-raising proposition. Luckily for The Sonder Bombs, the uke enhances the band’s self-assured humour and balance, creating a dynamic, nuanced counterpoint to frontwoman Willow Hawks’ acrobatic vocals and shimmering guitars. Hawks assures her listener base that the ukulele isn’t the product of a cutesy bygone era, it’s a weapon in a battle to be taken seriously in a male-dominated scene.

Pale Lady - Ben Wood & The Bad Ideas - Final Fiasco

We recommend following Beehive Candy on Twitter @perfectradio1 as we notify there immediately a new post has been uploaded. As mentioned in our last feature....

We are going to be making some changes this year, the first of which is this. Our policy is to only feature new music we really like (& often love). Regulars here will probably take that as a given. So by being featured on Beehive Candy that is our endorsement and recommendation.

To keep this site going we are no longer going to comment on each song, we will just use any promotional material provided to give some background. We will also no longer do any additional research.

We no longer have any income streams and everything is done in our spare time, so these changes are essential. Let's just allow the music to do the talking (or singing)!

===================================================

Pale Lady - Lost and Found.

Coming to us from Wellington, New Zealand, alternative pop rock quartet Pale Lady have started 2021 off right - with an energized new single and accompanying music video entitled "Lost and Found". Uptempo and brimming with melody, the new song and visual put on display the band's fun energy and sense of humor.

Musician Names/Instruments:
Conall Ryan - bass/lead vocals
Jack Taylor - Lead guitar/cowbell
Sam Minot - lead guitar/backing vocals
Sam Higham - drums/keyboards/backing vocals

Soon to be the first band to play on the moon, Pale Lady brings you a fresh blend of energy, smiles, and angst to create some Alt Pop-Rock goodness. Since forming in late 2016, Pale Lady has gone on to win the New Zealand national Battle of the Bands competition with two members also winning best guitarist.

They have opened for international legends such as The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Haken, released five singles and an EP with critical acclaim, and have recently returned from an international tour of Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Watching these rock fanatics live, you can expect to be immersed in lush vocal harmonies, a one-man drums/keyboard combo, inappropriate bass licks, and guitar solos a plenty. With new music and projects in the works, Pale Lady will be on the moon before you can say 'logistics'.

Ben Wood & The Bad Ideas - Soho.

Whilst starting out as a performer in London and a busker on the London Underground, Ben Wood was offered the unique opportunity to contribute to an X-Ray spex charity album in the US - one of only two UK bands who were offered the privilege.

Ben had to find a band and put a track together and send it over in 48 hours. Amazingly, he pulled it all together and formed his band, Ben Wood and The Bad Ideas from the experience: the name was a reference to his trepidation about the previous situation. They went on to play many stages: Prince Charles’ Garden Party, the Yes To Life Festival and release their compilation track, Obsessed with You as their debut single. The band’s 2018 release “The Reveal” featured Bruce Thomas (Elvis Costello and the Attractions) on bass.

In 2020 the band released a single every month for an entire year. The singles have guest spots from legendary musicians such as Dave Barbarossa of Adam and the Ants/Bow Wow Wow, Billy Ritchie of 60s Prog pioneers 1-2-3/Clouds (Ritchie famously introduced a young David Bowie to Jimi Hendrix) and even a very special guest feature from Paul Cook The Sex Pistols/The Professionals. LA based musician Nick Maybury (Juliette & The Licks/Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts) and Mike Webster of Asylums also featured on guitar.

The quartet have been enjoying heavy radio play stateside. All of the band’s monthly singles including their new release, “Soho”, have been spun by legendary Los Angeles DJ, Rodney Bingenheimer on 'The Rodney Bingenheimer Show.’ They have also featured on the 'Radio Indie Alliance' chart alongside the likes of Greenday and received airings on Planet Rock Radio and the BBC.

Ben Wood & The Bad Ideas’ brand new single “Soho” is available now on all digital platforms.

Final Fiasco - Hearts On Fire.

We are Final Fiasco an Indie Electropop musical project with Alternative influences, waiting to be discovered by you.

Our main objective is to think outside the box and create music that breaks the traditional musical boundaries, bringing together numerous musical styles, potentially bringing about something that was never heard before.

It all started in the summer of 2017 with Andi Calin's (the band's voice), vision that wanted to bring something new to Romania's musical industry. His dream couldn't get close to reality without the help of drummer Andrei Baciu, and all other people supporting his work and ideas.

Starting in February 2019 with the first single "Save Ourselves", Final Fiasco began releasing music on all public platforms (Youtube, Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and many others), preparing for the April 2020 release of their first EP entitled "Unlived Dream".

Besides the fact that we are a team that always goes for gold, we are also good friends who help each other and put fun in the first place, mostly during our jam sessions and rehearsals.

Keegan Chambers - atmig - Terah Lynn - Kev Gray & The Gravy Train feat Elise Palmer

We are back with a catch up on some recent songs that came our way during our break.

===================================================

Keegan Chambers - Not Waiting.

Keegan Chambers’ latest release looks and sounds like it could be the intro to your new favourite HBO series. The alternative pop rock song, titled Not Waiting, was originally written as a ballad. Finding herself at an emotional crossroads, Keegan wrote the song as an exercise in psyching herself up to lay her heart on the line and get some answers, once and for all. Once producer, Daniel Tsourounis, got involved, however, the track took an unexpected turn - which they both agree, was for the better.

They recorded and produced the song during quarantine and the video was shot shortly after phase three opened up, here in Toronto. In an effort to keep the crew small, Keegan took on the roles of hair, makeup, costume, and set design, not to mention fog wafter. Despite the small cast and crew, they wrapped with 15 minutes to spare, having shot more than enough footage to satisfy director, DanielDuguay and editor, Corey Stanton.

atmig - Ah Hah.

“Ah Hah” was created by remote collaboration during the pandemic lockdown, focusing on the exploitative nature of business and its consequences.

ATMIG is an indie-folk-rock male/female co-fronted band based in Detroit, Michigan.  We have the honor of being the first non-TMR artist to have its vinyl pressed as Third Man Pressing in Detroit, Michigan.

ATMIG, which stands for "After the Money is Gone," is a band from Detroit Michigan.  ATMIG is Tobias (vocals/guitar), Julia (vocals), Phil (bass/cello/keys/octave mandolin), Dan (guitar), Jamie (drums) and Emily (violin). ATMIG released its first single "Trip" on April 22, 2017, on a vinyl 7 inch.  ATMIG's first album "Wishes" was released on January 19, 2019.  Both albums were pressed by Jack White's Third Man Pressing and recorded at Soundscape Studios in Royal Oak, Michigan.  The music video for Trip, brought to you by Gravity Red Productions, premiered worldwide on 04.20.2017.

ATMIG's music is loud, soft, raw, produced, and heartfelt.  The band would argue ATMIG's sound is cohesive, notwithstanding sometimes sounding like traditional folk, indie-rock, shoegaze, and even a tid-bit rockabilly.  To hear ATMIG, listen to ATMIG's music or come to a show.  If you go to an ATMIG show, ATMIG will be there.

Terah Lynn - Enough.

Terah Lynn hails from the Appalachia. Whether leaning towards country or blues, this 6 foot tall ex-construction worker delivers heartfelt lyrics with a unique, gritty voice.

Terah Lynn re-connects with her country roots in her new single, 'Enough'. The new track is an ode to self worth and being seen, a profession of love and some banjo to boot.

Kev Gray & The Gravy Train - 2020 Love Song (feat. Elise Palmer).

Kev Gray & The Gravy Train are an alternative pop rock band formed in Tokyo in November 2008, with members from America, Canada, England and Japan.

After being chosen as a feature band in the government-sponsored, UK-Japan Year 2008, the group achieved mixed success on the Japanese music scene, after signing to Hemlock Music and twice winning the national music award, Gaijin Sounds.

2020 Love Song. Basic theme is a couple separated by lockdown struggling to stay together in 2020. Guess the general message is... Don't give up.. It is duet, between Kev Gray from Tokyo and sweet-voiced Londoner Elise Palmer. Other musicians are from South Africa, Ukraine, Israel , Germany, and Spain. A real lock down story, recorded globally via the internet.

Carter Sampson - Jarrod Dickenson - Rama Lama Records 2020

Continental Record Services have shared a few songs this week and we have chosen a couple starting with Carter Sampson and 'There's Always Next Year'. Lyrically timely and poignant, it's also one very fine, melodic and engaging Americana track ===== Secondly we have Jarrod Dickenson and his beautiful cover version of the George Harrison song 'I Live For You'. Packed with natural feeling this is a refined piece which takes the song into a more Americana dimension. ===== For a second year we have a compilation from Rama Lama Records where many of the artists have been featured by us over the past twelve months, such is the quality of the music and artists the Stockholm label manages to work with.

====================================================

Carter Sampson - There's Always Next Year.

Continental Record Services write - On the brink of a new year, we hope to please you with some releases that also surprised us. Covid/Corona Quarantines, however much we dislike them, seem to be good for creative processes.

So here are some singles that may bring you a bit of joy and light in these dark days..........

As Carter Sampson says herself: "Surprise! I hadn't planned on releasing any new music yet but I wrote you a song and think it's better off heard now. My new single now available anywhere you listen and download music!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jarrod Dickenson - I Live For You (George Harrison Cover).

And here is another cover for you, officially available on all streaming services now. Jarrod Dickenson pays tribute to George Harrison.

" 2020 marks 50 years since the release of George Harrison's landmark album, 'All Things Must Pass'. To pay tribute to Harrison and that fantastic record, here is a cover of the song "I Live For You", which was originally recorded during the 'All Things Must Pass' sessions, but was left off the initial track listing.

The song was finally released on the 30th anniversary of the album's release, and has been a favorite of mine ever since."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rama Lama Records 2020 - Various Artists.

Rama Lama Records proudly presents "Rama Lama Records 2020", a compilation of the best music we put out during the notoriously bad year 2020. The album gathers nineteen tracks from Cat Princess, Chez Ali, Guds Pengar, Gula Blend, Kindsight, Kluster B, Lilla Parasit, Loaver, Melby och Steve Buscemi's Dreamy Eyes.

2020 didn't exactly go according to plan. We could be negative and nag about the fact that we've never put on as few live gigs as we did this year, but at the same time we've never released this much music. Music that has helped us not give up during these "strange times".

During 2020, we've had interesting debuts from Kindsight and Gula Blend mixed with follow-ups by Kluster B and Melby, the great return of Chez Ali and debut albums from Lilla Parasit, Guds Pengar, Loaver and Steve Buscemi's Dreamy Eyes. What stands out to us this year is the great and eclectic mix these wonderful acts form when they come together, and we're so glad and proud to have released them all. We hope this compilation can work both as an introduction for the curious and a reminder for the great people who continue to follow and support our little label.

Rama Lama Records 2020 is available on all digital platforms and as a free download on Bandcamp. In 2021, we turn five and we plan to celebrate it a lot, stay tuned!

Another Sky - Bitter Defeat

Another Sky have just shared their latest single 'Was I Unkind?' along with a video of them performing with London Contemporary Voices. We have added a second video which features two extra songs 'Tree' and 'Avalanche’ again with London Contemporary Voices. This is our fourth feature for this exceptional band this year and these superb versions of their music really are something quite special and an absolute pleasure to share. ===== Bitter Defeat are a New Zealand based band and their brand new single 'Better' is a distinctive indie rock song. Gritty and packing some gorgeous hooks, this quickly becomes "sing along" music, and needless to say pretty much a certainty for a good few more listens.

===================================================

Another Sky - Was I Unkind? / Another Sky with London Contemporary Voices

Another Sky releases “Was I Unkind?” taken from 'Music For Winter Vol. 1 EP' out January 1st via Missing Piece Records / Fiction. On the first day of 2021, Another Sky will release their latest body of work, an EP entitled Music For Winter Vol. I. The EP follows their debut full-length I Slept on The Floor, released earlier this year via Fiction / Missing Piece Records. Yesterday, the band released the EP’s third single "Was I Unkind?", following the recently released "It Keeps Coming" and "Sun Seeker". Alongside the studio version of  “Was I Unkind?,” the London-based four piece have also released two very special live performance videos, recorded with London Contemporary Voices at London’s Union Chapel in 2019. The first being a live version of “Was I Unkind?,” and the second a medley of “Was I Unkind?,” “Tree,” and “Avalanche.”

“We wanted to release a song to celebrate Winter Solstice, a significant time of year in many cultures,” Catrin Vincent, vocalist and lyricist of Another Sky says of the new single. “‘Was I Unkind?’ was written about the time I accidentally killed my favourite plant. The plant became symbolic of how I treated myself. I realised I was as trapped in the world as the plant was, at the mercy of myself. Winter Solstice is a time of death and rebirth.”

"Winter is the perfect time for sombre music," she continues. On how the project came together, Catrin explains, "some songs are old, some are new, all are entirely collaborative. After being kept apart because of the lockdown and writing a bunch of our second album separately, we just wanted to get back into our studio and record." The entire EP was recorded, produced and mixed by the band themselves at their South London studio, The Lighthouse, in October 2020.

Bitter Defeat - Better.

Kirikiriroa Hamilton (Aotearoa New Zealand) based indie-rock band Bitter Defeat today released their third single ‘Better’. One of several tracks recorded at Hamilton’s The Porch Studio (by long-time The Datsuns sound engineer and collaborator Scott Newth), ‘Better’ is the third release from the five-piece, who list the likes of The Wedding Present, Guided By Voices, The Clean, Galaxie 500 and Pavement amongst their influences.

"‘Better’ is a happy song about crappy things ending" said Rob Shirlow the songs writer. "More specifically relationships and things in your life that are totally toxic but for some reason you don’t see it or don’t want to see it, or just can’t imagine that this thing which you think you really love or is important to you is actually really bad for you and messing you up and then it ends. The joy that comes from being released from such awful situations can be quite immense, and that’s what this song is about, really. It’s not about one specific relationship, more a theme of past experiences, some work situations of the past, social groups or ‘friends’ you realise were just truly awful things in your life...when they end, the big breathe out and ‘Oh my god what was I thinking!?’ moments.” Shirlow goes on to say “Musically it starts off a bit Britpop of all things, but I like to think we channel The Clash once it gets going. It’s a favourite to play live and is cathartic to sing and just let it all go!”

The band also recorded and starred in their second music video. “We worked with a friend of ours again, Kat Waswo, (WAZKAT Productions), in Hamilton one sunny afternoon in early summer. She did an amazing job. We had a bit more of an idea about what we wanted for this, and it’s basically us having a big old mess around outdoors, being very happy and doing mildly odd things for middle aged people. We considered a narrative of someone coming out of a troubled relationship and then being happy, but decided to focus on the ‘being happy’ element of the song, so that’s what you see. We don’t take ourselves particularly seriously, not that the subject matter isn’t serious or from the heart, but portraying that on screen is a different thing altogether. We’re very happy with the result and are grateful for all of Kat’s mahi with the video”
