Dance Lessons - Worn Through - MK Naomi

Dance Lessons - Hurricane.

London’s jazz-pop futurists Dance Lessons have announced the release of their hotly anticipated debut album Beginners, a lush, emotionally-charged collection written across 2024 and 2025. With their signature blend of jazz, alternative-pop and electronic grooves, Beginners, out July 25th, is a bold statement from a band that’s only just beginning.

This week they have shared their new single, the beautifully expansive ‘Hurricane’. The track was written “following a friend’s messy, often beautiful, but turbulent relationship. It’s about people who don’t always get it right, perhaps what they’ve got is even a bit toxic, and yet somewhere in there, we keep going. And maybe if we only can survive each other, we become something else entirely in the process."

Dance Lessons - made up of Anne (vocals, songwriting, keys, production), Nat (guitars) and Tom (bass, backing vocals) - formed in 2020. Their debut singles dropped mid-pandemic to critical acclaim, and they’ve been carving their own lane ever since. The mission: blur the lines between jazz and pop while making bold, emotionally rich music with high-gloss production – thanks to Anne, the creative force behind the desk in a world where just 3% of charting producers are women.

Across its 10 tracks, Beginners explores “our constantly evolving relationships to each other.” The record’s sound is as expansive as its influences - from Kate Bush and Bowie to Solange and Róisín Murphy - and aims to “trick people who say they don’t like jazz into really digging it.”

Worn Through - Barely Real (Album).

Baltimore's Worn Through have released their debut LP, Barely Real, today June 20. Worn Through is a band that feels like a late-night conversation with an old friend, someone you know who has been through the fire and has come out the other side wiser, somehow kinder. Raw and honest, they let you behind the curtain to hear what they’ve kept guarded for so long, revealing the sting of lost loves, regrets of tender recklessness and those small, fleeting moments that carry the weight of the world.

Each song sung like unmailed postcards scattered on a living room floor, telling stories with beautifully entangled melodies and hopeful, yet melancholy guitars; picked like a petal with sophisticated twang. Driven between dash-lines by a reliable rhythm section that flows down the dark interstate of infinite time. Each player protecting the delicate flame that may have once burned them, but now invites them to find and keep peace.

Comprised of former members of Tin Armor, Angel Du$t, Wild Honey and Saintseneca, these kindred spirits have lived a life of rock n’ roll, only to realize that the road is “a goddamn impossible way of life,” echoing the parting sentiment of the original Band. At some point without noticing, their impulsive, roaming days had reached the end of the line, allowing them now to handle with care the opportunity to begin again, together in Baltimore, Maryland.

Knowing that nothing lasts forever only frees the music in the moment that it’s played, creating an authentic indie, country rock sound that’s been inspired by many of those who have traveled before them. Worn Through has no choice but to embrace the uncertain magic of rock n’ roll, because it’s the only road they’ve ever known.

MK Naomi - Dream Hiss (EP).

MK Naomi is a Boston-based emo pop hallucination. Named for the covert CIA bioweapons program that ran from the 1950s-'70s, the quartet's effervescent riffs and '90s-washed hooks glow in the dark. Simply, the band says they're FFO the Ten Things I Hate About You soundtrack.

MK Naomi’s spirited debut EP, Dream Hiss, pierces through the haze of grief like a sharp knife through fog. Written in the wake of a multi-year stretch marked by loss, unrest, and heartbreak, the quartet of songs linger in the liminal space between collapse and regeneration, where healing isn’t linear and clarity comes in flickers. Dream Hiss releases digitally and to tape today June 20 via Sweet Cheetah Records. “Dream Hiss is a collection of songs centered around a theme of vulnerability,” says Andrea Neuenfeldt. “Some of them were written during a raw, isolated time during the height of Covid.

“Prior to that, I had a few years of my life that nearly did me in. I was underemployed and struggling to survive on my own in my early 20s, supporting someone I loved who became sick. I had a nervous breakdown and spent a year living with my friend’s parents in the suburbs, trying to make sense of my life.

“By the time the pandemic came fully into view, I thought I had found some clarity. But it turns out, I still had a lot to process. These songs came from that in-between space—the aftershock, the quiet reckoning, the feeling of trying to move forward while still haunted by what came before. “The EP title came to our drummer Ally Bull when she was watching one of her cats having a vivid encounter in her sleep, but for me, the title reflects the heavy experiences that seem ‘done’ but linger beyond our conscious reach.”

Dark and Twisties - Grace and Dignity.

Swansea Alt-Folk Band Dark And Twisties released a brand new single 'Grace And Dignity' just a few days back and this is a gorgeous song that just has to be shared. It's a gentle flowing piece with exquisite vocals and harmonies along with a beautiful musical arrangement, it's also one that will sit for sometime on any discerning Alt-Folk fans playlist.

Prepare to be swept into a world of beauty and shadow with Dark & Twisties, the alt-folk band that’s making waves with their evocative harmonies and story telling. Drawing inspiration from both nature’s power and the depths of the human experience, the group brings a unique sound that intertwines the dark beauty of traditional folk with modern, ethereal sensibilities. Dark and Twisties are; Sarah Birch, Kate Ronconi, Sarah Passmore, Danny Kilbride and Huw Rees.

They have received a rapturous reception since bursting into the scene just months ago, weaving stories old and new into strange and beautiful songs with glorious harmonies and skilful musicianship. This song provides a landscape  that explores the complexities of being. a woman on her own of a certain age. The joy of solo endeavours vs loneliness. masking and unmasking. the pursuit of  a quiet life vs the fear of missing out and the perpetual navigation of  friendship and loss. With an uplifting sadness the Dark and Twisties produce harmonies, counter melodies and  a beautiful arrangement to tell this modern folk tale for all of us : perfectly flawed and flawlessly perfect.

Dark And Twisties continue to build a loyal following across the alt-folk scene with intimate live performances and harmonies that transport listeners into a different realm. Their music is a perfect fit for those who love the eerie, the beautiful, and the transcendent.

McCabe - Sunset Boulevard.

Ahead of the release of his debut album Sunset Boulevard on July 11th, South London’s soul maverick McCabe teases fans with the album’s title track this week. Following the success of 'Vicious' and 'Days Of Heaven,' this sun-kissed opener serves as both artistic manifesto and cinematic gateway into McCabe's genre-defying world. Named after Billy Wilder's iconic film, the track establishes the movie-influenced foundation that runs throughout his highly anticipated ten-track  album.

"Sunset Boulevard is about making it in Hollywood – an enchanting, dream-like world where not everything is as it seems," McCabe explains. "This is the first of many references to cinema through the album. Hollywood becomes the symbol for making it to the top, but there's always that sense of deception and forgery lurking beneath the surface."

Drenched in Hollywood mystique, the track captures both the intoxicating allure and dark underbelly of the entertainment industry's dream factory. Working alongside producer Patrick James Fitzroy (Sorry, Katy J Pearson, PVA), McCabe weaves west coast hip-hop synth lines with arrangements reminiscent of Stereolab's Dots And Loops, creating a sonic landscape that feels simultaneously nostalgic and futuristic. Dub bass lines anchor the piece while horns punctuate its dreamy narrative, drawing inspiration from the surreal atmospheres of David Lynch and the golden age cinema that Wilder helped define.

Ant Thomaz - Believe.

Ant Thomaz is a Glasgow-based singer-songwriter and musician from southern Louisiana's Bayou region, recognized for his eclectic musical style that blends folk, soul, pop, zydeco, and rock influences. As a self-taught artist, he began composing songs at the age of twelve, cultivating a distinctive sound characterized by rich storytelling and cultural depth. His music showcases a unique fusion of influences derived from his Scottish, Irish, and Coushatta Indian heritage, with lyrics in Scottish Gaelic, Cajun French, and English.

Rooted in personal experience and inspired by his daughter Gaia, his latest single “Believe” is a song for anyone who’s been underestimated. It’s about rising above doubt, holding onto hope, and knowing that you’re just as capable as anyone else. Gaia has continually defied expectations, by embracing positivity, self-belief, and the power of persistence. Her strength and outlook became the emotional foundation of “Believe” and serve as an uplifting reminder that limitations placed on us by others don’t define who we are.

Originally written as shared meditations and short stories between father and daughter, Thomaz explains, “I witnessed her developing trust in her own resilience.” He continues, “There was no plan to make it a song as such, but then, discussing recording music at the studio with my friend Chris, I shared the words and emotions and it evolved into ‘Believe.’”

Honey Motel - Boo Boos - The Wind-Ups

Honey Motel - If You Didn’t Exist.

Liverpool's Honey Motel whose exciting current genre blurring single ‘If You Didn’t Exist’ has been accompanied by a new video released today 17th June.

Produced by Alexandros Brits (Clean Cut Kid, Michael Aldag, St Catherine’s Child), the new single builds on the acclaim the band have previously gained across national press and radio alike, showcasing the bands evolution as they build towards the release of the new EP. A striking display of musicality and intelligent songwriting, ‘If You Didn’t Exist’ moves between moments of swaying melodic-Indie, Blues infused licks and bursts of high energy Alt-Rock, ultimately resulting in a track that displays the band’s strikingly unique approach to songwriting.

A fluent and inventive journey through the band’s varying style and influences, the track shifts pace and feel throughout. From the flawlessly husky lead vocals, to the tightly locked drums and grounding bass, to the elegant flourishes of guitar, ‘If You Didn’t Exist’ manages to balance its restless shifts in pace with catchy and memorable lead melodies. Talking about the single, guitarist Sam explains: “This is the first track the band and Fred clicked together on. I showed him the track in one of our first rehearsals and Lew and Jack played along. It was like the track went from black and white to technicolour instantly. He just seemed to get it…Fred brought it to life.

Thematically, If You Didn’t Exist is about the quiet weight certain things carry in our lives. Things that might seem insignificant to others, but for us, hold everything together. A favourite band, a partner, a personal obsession, take them away, and suddenly the whole structure starts to wobble. The song sits with that feeling, the fear of losing what makes life feel like life.”

The Wind-Ups - Cheer Up.

The Wind-Ups are back with a new song off their recently announced upcoming full length album. The Wind-Ups (Northern California) return with their third album this summer. 11 blistering tracks of lo-fi sugar punk à la the Ramones and Spits, Confection is a cotton candy rock’n’roll blitzkrieg. Recorded to tape by frontman/ringleader Jake Sprecher.

The anxious and snarling energy of the lead off track "A Fine Pink Mist" recalls the early days of Denton, TX's Marked Men in their most primitive state. From there the tone is set–a wall of noise and fuzz-drenched guitars recalls Black Tambourine's Ramones covers EP, with a backbeat that feels like a panic attack. The result: bubblegum music through blown out speakers played at the wrong speed, noisy and demented in the best possible way.

When Sprecher sweetens things up a bit for the saccharine sing-alongs “(That's Just My) Dream Girl" and "To Keep Away," Confection shows its softer and more sensitive Joey side; but it’s the midtempo spoken word duet "Cheer Up" that steals the show. A love letter to those feeling exhausted, beaten down and doubting themselves, the song radiates the genuineness, positivity and earnestness that really defines who The Wind-Ups are. Last but certainly not least, the LP closes with a rare electric guitar appearance from Jonathan Richman on the outro of “Little Boy Blue.”

Ruth Lyon - Caswell - Looms - Chwaer Fawr

Photo - Valentyna Vasylevska (c)
Ruth Lyon - Poems & Non-Fiction (Album).

Ruth Lyon has just released her remarkable debut album 'Poems & Non-Fiction' it's now available to stream and purchase on 12" vinyl via Pink Lane Records.

Poems & Non-Fictionis the debut album by Newcastle’s Ruth Lyon—a major waymark for a powerful songwriter who weaves deeply evocative narratives and potent meditations, with an artistry that balances delicacy and strength. Forged by her experiences as a disabled woman and a life-long sense of otherness, she explores the beautiful mess of existence, challenges social norms and ignites a journey towards self-acceptance, empowerment and perhaps most importantly, hope. “ I have surprised myself with the raw honesty in these songsand I hope these stories inspire healing and growth”.

Working with acclaimed producer John Parish (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding) and influenced by artists like Adrienne Lenker, FionaApple and Moondog, the songs are rich with poetic nuance and the unconventional insight of a young life lived to capacity—a mesmerizing blend of analogue and angular indie-folk that gives as much attention to silence as sound, with understated yet muscular grooves. Shimmering between the abstract, the archetypal and the naked truth, meaning lingers just beneath the surface, daring listeners to both reach out and dig deep; to give emotion a solid, tangible shape.

Coming off the back of concerts from across the world—most notably performing at New York City Hall where she received the prestigious Danny Award, Brighton’s Great Escape international showcase and Glastonbury Festival—as well as receiving the flagship PPL Momentum Grant and being included on the Power 100, that named her among the most influential disabled people in the UK, Poems & Non-Fiction, set for release this year, promises to further cement Lyon’s reputation as a singular voice in the contemporary music landscape; one that dares to challenge, comfort, and captivate in equal measure.

Caswell - Final Call.

Suffolk (England) Alternative-Pop riser Caswell returns with the radiant new single ‘Final Call’ (13th June), taken from the anticipated upcoming debut album Break/Bleed/Bloom (1st Oct).

Blending elements of downtempo electronica, ethereal deampop and indie musicality with pop sensibilities, Caswell brings a sonic intelligence and melodic clarity which sets her music apart. Lush, immersive and emotive, the new single ‘Final Call’ continues this trend, with a tight lo-fi beat and fuzzy modulated bass with splashes of sparkling synth creating a transportive and rich soundscape. Caswell’s tender and commanding lead vocal pulls the track forward through its instantly repeatable melody, creating a feel which is at once cinematic and intimate, marked by a delicate interplay of vulnerability and strength to reflect playful, yet heartfelt lyricism.

Speaking about the single Caswell explains: "Final Call explores the concept of reincarnation and feeling a playful curiosity about death, which is something so often seen as negative and taboo in our culture. Nature has always been an incredible way of helping me to feel present and there is beauty in knowing that we are connected to this ancient and cyclical network of life, and that one day when we will inevitably return to the earth that we are made from. Maybe death is simply a fallow period of rest, after which our energy lives on in the natural world in some new way."

Known for her magnetic stage presence, Caswell first grabbed attention by winning a nationwide competition to support Ed Sheeran, performing for 40,000 fans on his Divide tour. She’s since lit up stages at major festivals including the likes of Reading & Leeds, Latitude, and Bearded Theory, each performance showcasing her ability to balance the softness of her sound with undeniable stage energy.

Chwaer Fawr – Byw yn ôl y Sôn.

Chwaer Fawr new single 'Byw yn ôl y Sôn' is out now via Klep Dim Trep. Chwaer Fawr is the solo project of 'Mari Morgan', known for her time with Rogue Jones, Bitw and Saron. Her debut album (due June 27), oxymoronically titled Diwedd ('end'), is a quiet turning point marking both a conclusion and a beginning. Written and recorded slowly, at home and with friends, Diwedd grew organically and patiently. After years of playing in other people’s bands, this time it's her own quietly defiant voice that's front and centre.

Sung entirely in Welsh, Diwedd explores the tension between innocence and responsibility, between personal vulnerability and quiet resistance. It hints at the duality between the wonder of new motherhood and the anxiety of the modern world, threading in themes of peace, hope, and the urge to rise above it all. Birds and flight are recurring images throughout as symbols of freedom, fragility, and defiance. The album doesn’t seek resolution, but offers space to sit with discomfort, wonder and change.

Musically, Diwedd lives in a wonky, artful corner of alt-pop. It balances off-kilter textures with melodic clarity, gentle warmth and sharp detail. The record features contributions from a reliable circle of collaborators, including Llŷr Pari (Gwenno, Omaloma), Alex Morrison (Cate Le Bon, H. Hawkline), and Gwion Llewelyn (Aldous Harding, Villagers), with production from Gruff ab Arwel (Bitw, Y Niwl), who helps shape its tender strangeness.

Despite it's title, 'Diwedd' isn’t a full stop; rather, it’s the exhale after a long breath in. It marks the end of the slow, steady making of a debut, and the start of a more personal musical chapter. The album is both a personal journal and a quiet protest, not against one thing, but against forgetting what matters. It might not shout, but it stays with you. Sometimes, an ending is the most powerful way to begin.

heddlu - Chorus of Courage feat. Mèr - Maya’s Radio Orchestra - Ryan Dunn

heddlu - Wish You Were Her.

The Welsh Electronic & Indie Artist 'heddlu' has a new single 'Wish You Were Her' out this week via Zawn Records. Heddlu is the new musical project by Rhodri Daniel. The Ceredigion native was a founding member of renowned Welsh band Estrons who had a major impact on the industry having gained rave reviews from the likes of NME, Vice, DIY and Clash to BBC Radio, Radio X, Ultimate Guitar, The Guardian and Independent.

After finishing the band in 2019, Rhodri became aware that his hearing was severely damaged. Years of touring the live circuit had taken their toll, Rhodri ultimately being diagnosed with hearing loss, tinnitus and severe sensitivity to noise. The effects were so acute, Rhodri was unable to play live music, leading to him composing his critically acclaimed debut album (Cantref, 2022) in his head whilst completing the entirety of the Wales Coastal Path (900 miles). His family and namely his sister, were great sources of comfort and hope during this difficult period. Serendipity led Rhodri back to music, and heddlu was born. Meaning ‘Police’ in Welsh, from the words ‘peace-force’, heddlu's music has been true to its’ name, offering a force of peace to the songwriter.

Rhodri spent the next few years writing and experimenting with new sounds and instruments as his hearing slowly recovered. Whilst writing and recording his 2nd album, life found a way of both disrupting and influencing the creative process, leading to multiple re-writes and an entire album being erased. Eventually, despite the interruptions, heddlu’s 2nd album, ‘Tramor’ - was completed. Meaning ‘Overseas’ in Welsh, ‘Tramor’ is series of intimate and volatile songs, detailing years of loss, estrangement, trauma and hope.

“Wish You Were Her”, is the 2nd single from heddlu’s 2nd album ‘Tramor’, it is a raw emotionally charged track that pleads for someone close to grow into a better version of themselves—driven by equal parts frustration and love. Both confrontational and compassionate, it’s a self-aware lament that blurs the line between calling someone out and looking inward, capturing the messy beauty of caring deeply and hurting honestly.

============================================================================

Chorus of Courage feat. Mèr - Let's Fight.

Chorus of Courage and singer-songwriters Mèr (Cindy Doire and Sarah Burton) unveil “Let’s Fight,” a powerful new single that confronts the emotional trauma of narcissistic abuse and the difficult journey toward self-liberation. With unflinching honesty and a calm, cinematic soundscape, the track captures the moment of finally breaking free from manipulation, gaslighting, and cycles of harm — and the quiet strength it takes to say “I’m done.”

Chorus of Courage, a collective rooted in amplifying the voices of survivors of violence provides a home for Mèr’s new song, which resonates as both an act of personal healing and a statement of solidarity for others navigating similar experiences.

Written from the aftermath of emotional abuse, “Let’s Fight” challenges the futility and toll of toxic relational dynamics. “Have you ever had a friend or lover who always wanted to pick a fight? It’s an exhausting cycle of manipulation and hurt,” states Burton. “‘Let’s Fight’ is meant with irony and calm, as if to say, ‘I won’t fight anymore.’”

Though its title may suggest conflict, the song’s intention is the opposite. It’s about reclaiming peace.

Maya’s Radio Orchestra - Garden Variety.

Glasgow-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Maya’s Radio Orchestra returns with her emotionally intimate and rhythmically immediate, genre-blurring new single ‘Garden Variety’. A harpist, fiddler, vocalist, and string arranger, Maya combines classical instrumentation with modern pop textures to striking effect. In ‘Garden Variety’, disco-inspired strings, layered harp, and urgent percussion underpin lyrics that examine the often-blurry line between compassion and overreach.

“It came together after I gave someone what I thought was helpful advice — but it clearly wasn’t wanted. That made me reflect on the balance between caring for others and maintaining your own wellbeing.”

The track began life as a sparse harp-and-voice demo but transformed after a collaboration with drummer Edwin McLachlan, who brought in an unpredictable, high-energy drum part. Maya re-composed the strings in response, drawing from 70s and 80s disco orchestration. The final result is a confident blend of genres, grounded by the refrain: “You don’t like my common garden variety advice / Your rage blooms, and I’m terrified.”

Originally from a village near Cheltenham, Maya moved to Scotland to study theology — later switching to physics — before turning fully to music. She trained in clàrsach (Celtic harp) and pedal harp at Edinburgh College and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and now works as a performer, arranger, and session musician. Her music fuses traditional instruments with unexpected influences, often layering harp and fiddle over bold textures.

Noiseshaper feat. Simple Straw - Kitty-May - Kissing Other ppl

Noiseshaper feat. Simple Straw - Fly Up.

By 2019, the release of King Size Dub Special: Noiseshaper and Paolo Baldini Dubfiles Meets Noiseshaper rekindled the band’s spark. Reuniting with their former bassist Clemens Handler, the three of them began producing fresh material, giving fans a glimpse of the new chapter with the EP Listen To The Sound in 2023.

Kissing Other ppl - Ashes of American Flags.

This is an auspicious pairing: Baiman has earned raves from American Songwriter, VICE NOISEY, Folk Alley and has 60,000 monthly listeners. She has collaborated with Erin Rae, Shaboozey, Kacey Musgraves, Kevin Morby, and Molly Tuttle. Under the Radar has raved about Durham, NC-based Viv & Riley’s “warmth and organic joy [on] welcome folk delights.” They’ll be touring this spring with the Wood Brothers. First single “Where’d All The Time Go” (originally by Dr. Dog) came out in May, whilst “Ashes of American Flags” (Wilco) is out today June 13 and the album “Kissing Other People” (Lennon Stella) is due July 11.

The harmonies on this thing are magic. It initially presents as a folk album, but it includes a fair amount of indie rock sensibility and experimentation, from the musicians trying instruments less familiar to themselves to unconventional recording methods (a ‘90s camcorder used to capture room audio, abstract sounds in the Wilco song, off-kilter guitar sound on the Dr. Dog tune, etc.).

Many of the tracks are drawn from early takes, with the energy and ideas fresh. The band decamped to a studio in the Connecticut countryside but ended up making the entire record in the accompany midcentury modern house, never setting foot in the actual studio, recorded often in the living room and even the indoor pool when they needed extra natural reverb. The idea began when the acts toured together and asked each other what non-folk music they each listened to in the van, and that led directly to a few of the song choices on here, including Lennon Stella and Waylon Payne. “Hold On Magnolia” holds special significance to Riley, as he went to Oberlin, where Jason Molina also attended.

EDIE - ALA.NI - Gelli Haha - Hilary Hawke

EDIE - Girl’s Girl.

Boorloo (Perth) songwriter EDIE has made a name for herself through biting back at the misogyny that lurks all around, and now she’s turning the camera around to the girls who take part in tearing each other down in her newest single, ‘Girl’s Girl’, out on June 12.

Perth’s indie/ pop-rock princess EDIE is back with the same punch of energy she’s growing to be known and loved for, as shown through her 2024 debut EP and live shows buzzing with electricity. She kick started 2025 with her last release, ‘Bleed’, catching the attention of Triple J, RAGE, Triple J Unearthed, Rolling Stone, and even receiving a WAM nomination in the pop category, showing off how people crave her blend of girliness and edge.

‘Girl’s Girl’ has that signature EDIE bite with its toe-tapping electric basslines and its catchy drum loops, with EDIE’s strong voice helping the lyrics to stand out and be heard. This tune is versatile and addictive, the kind of song that can be listened to as a background track or really heard with the meaning of it raining down.

This song isn't afraid to call out those who aren't a ‘Girl’s Girl’— Girl's girls lift each other up and aren’t afraid to call out misogyny, even when it’s coming from another woman. As such, this song is a softer side to EDIE’s usually cutting discography, a song more sad than angry. When a man is sexist, it's half-expected, but the friendly fire of a girl turning her back on another girl feels like a betrayal. EDIE says,

“‘Girl’s Girl’ is about the girls who just don’t support other girls! The ones who say they are there for you but then stab you in the back. And the ones who say “I’m one of the boys” or “I don’t hang out with girls, they’re too much drama!” I am exhausted with it! Let’s all support each other and lift each other up!”

ALA.NI - Summer Meadows.

Paris-based singer/songwriter ALA.NI releases new single “Summer Meadows” via No Format Records, her second new song of the year following last month’s “Something You Said.” Drawing from a rich tapestry of influences – from calypso, to jazz, to bossa nova – the track is an intimate, heartfelt homage to her time spent living in Jamaica. The song also arrives with a music video which further celebrates her Caribbean heritage by effortlessly weaving her music with footage from Trinidad’s 1959 Carnival.

“I definitely wrote this one under my duvet, wishing for sunshine,” shares ALA.NI. “It was December 2023, and mentally, I was back in Jamaica. The contrabass you hear is actually Clément Petit on the cello, while the carnivalesque trumpets and horns were played by Okiel McIntyre, a great kid I met playing music in Jamaica. I needed someone who knew what Caribbean sunshine feels like! I called him out of the blue — and he just happened to be flying into Paris to play with The Skatalites a few days later, so I grabbed him.”

The track takes inspiration from the two and a half years she spent traveling across Barbados, Grenada – where her parents grew up – and Jamaica, a trip that helped her find a renewed sense of self. Music flowed naturally, and she found herself collaborating with many of the Caribbean’s most prominent artists. Back in Paris, she channeled the energy she felt on this journey – thinking of the sunshine, heat, beauty and soul of these islands.

Gelli Haha - Normalize.

Gelli Haha reveals “Normalize”. Influenced by 80s Nigerian soul boogie, her final single ahead of the release of debut full-length album, Switcheroo, delivers mid-tempo synth-funk underneath a raw but smooth vocal. Gelli Haha expresses her desire to be free of hardships in the chorus, singing “I want to fly away”. The video for “Normalize” adapts Gelli Haha’s live stage performance into film, and is the next chapter of the psycho-science experiment that began in the previous single, “Spit,” revealing Gelli has been transformed into a parachute monster.

A shapeshifter, a sonic acrobat, a performer with one foot in the cosmos and the other in arthouse theatrics, Gelli Haha (pronounced Jelly-Haha) is a space for pure creative chaos that exists somewhere between Studio 54 and Area 51. Gelli’s music thrives on duality: playful but profound, tongue-in-cheek but sincere. Her debut album Switcheroo, out next month via Innovative Leisure, is the soundtrack to the Gelliverse, a sensory adventure sphere created by Gelli.

With a shared taste for off-kilter pop and vintage gear, producer Sean Guerin (of De Lux) joined Gelli in turning freshly-formed demos into a high-voltage experiment, abandoning meticulous structure for something freer and more electrifying. Every song on Switcheroo makes use of a myriad of recording toys; wacky analog effects, such as the Eventide Harmonizer, MXR Pitch Transposer, and various Electrix units, fashion an intentionally flawed and strictly silly texture throughout the album. Switcheroo is an exercise in letting go, an inside joke turned theatrical spectacle.

Hilary Hawke — NYC Waltz.

Hilary Hawke is a genre-blending banjoist, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist whose sound is as rooted as it is boundary-pushing. Originally from upstate New York and now a longtime staple of the NYC music scene, Hilary brings warmth, charisma, and grit to every stage she steps onto. Whether fingerpicking with precision or digging into clawhammer grooves, her style radiates a rare combination of technique and heartfelt authenticity.

She is looking forward to the release of Lift Up This Old World (coming July 11, 2025 on Adhyâropa Records). Featuring contributions from Ross Martin, Max Johnson, Jacob Jolliff, Camille Howes and Bobby Hawk, the album is raw and honest bluegrass and old-time music, exploring themes of self-belief, resilience, and reconnecting with your roots. Born out of heartbreak and the unpredictable journey through life and the music industry, it’s a return to authenticity-just real songs, played and lived. Nine of the 11 tracks are original, touching on themes of strength, perseverance, acceptance, and even a couple of tearjerkers. This album is about trusting your path and creating genuine connections through both traditional and original music.

The album's first single "NYC Waltz," out today, is an ode to Hilary's locality, written and performed by Hilary on banjo, and featuring Ross Martin on guitar, Max Johnson on bass, Bobby Hawk on fiddle, and gorgeous harmonies by Ruth Merenda.

Hilary current live project features a powerhouse trio, rounded out by celebrated guitarist Ross Martin and rising fiddle innovator Camille Howes. Since forming in 2023, the group has built its identity around improvisation, original songwriting, and a shared reverence for bluegrass and old-time traditions - while never being afraid to stretch the genre’s boundaries. In 2023, Hilary released Lilygild, an instrumental album, with guitarist Reed Stutz, followed by Open the Doors, a neo-classical collaboration with pianist/synthesist duo Ola & Claude Aldous.

Yoshika Colwell - Soot Sprite - Ezra Veda - Emmett Jerome - Galore - Sienna Thornton

Yoshika Colwell - In Bloom.

The latest single from Yoshika Colwell's forthcoming debut album On The Wing (out July 25 via Blue Flowers), "In Bloom" is a textured and gently radiant indie-folk track that explores the concept of “sunny nihilism”—the idea of embracing life’s impermanence with warmth, clarity, and joy.

Hailing from the South East of England, Yoshika has been writing and gigging solo since 2017. In early 2022, whilst living in a caravan in the Kent countryside, her home-made demos found their way to the Blue Flowers record label who began working with her. 2024’s debut E.P. ‘There’s A Time’ heralded the arrival of a captivating talent and vital new voice in the great canon of English singer-songwriters. The E.P. garnered support from BBC 6Music, BBC Introducing , CLASH, The Line Of Best Fit and The New Cue.

In late ’24 a collaborative E.P. with The Vernon Spring followed, an avant garde and deeply intuitive collection which challenged any initial perceptions of Yoshika as a traditional folk artist. Yoshika’s songs are often deeply personal and concerned with attempting to understand the self & others, time, nature and mortality. A life-long Joni Mitchell fan she also takes inspiration from a wide mix of artists inc. Gillian Welch to Linda Perhacs, John Prine to Talk Talk.

Soot Sprite - Wield Your Hope Like A Weapon.

Ahead of their UK tour dates next week, today, Exeter alt-trio Soot Sprite have shared their new music video for 'Wield Your Hope Like A Weapon'. The track is the title-track from their debut album, which came out last month via  Specialist Subject (FRESH, Jeff Rosenstock, Doe, Muncie Girls).

Of their new video, lead vocalist and guitarist Elise Cook says: "Our friend Corey Eyres reached out to us wanting to do a video for the record, when we had a phone call about it it’s like our brains all went to the same place. We wanted it to be a silly video for a pretty serious track, and spent a day prancing about the Bath Spa uni grounds making this video, our friends pitched in all the props and our friends Joe Kime and Glenn Saitch kindly offered their days to do incredible extra work, everyone fully sent it and our faces collectively hurt from laughing the whole day away."

Since the release of their debut single in 2018, Soot Sprite has grown from a one-woman lo-fi bedroom pop project to a fully-fledged touring alt-indie shoegaze outfit. Their debut album sees Cook, Sean Mariner (bass/backing vocals), and Sam Cother (drums/backing vocals) fully embrace the dynamic highs and intimate lows that define their sound.

Sonically, Wield Your Hope Like A Weapon takes influence from many alt-indie greats, creating a sound that blends shimmering melodies with raw, visceral energy. “When I started Soot Sprite I was hooked on Clean by Soccer Mommy and Hovvdy’s Cranberry but with this record I was listening to a lot of Sweet Pill’s catalogue, Ovlov & Wednesday,” explains Cook. Written over a span of four years - some tracks taking shape just weeks before recording - the album was captured in September 2024 at The Bookhouse in London, with the help of former lead guitarist Abi Crisp and production by Tom Hill.

Ezra Veda – Shadows Of Trust (Album).

Amsterdam-based artist Ezra Veda refuses to follow the rules of the music industry, and that’s exactly what makes her shine. Starting as a vocalist, she soon took full control of her creative process, producing her own music and defining her own narrative. Ezra is not one for the spotlight, but her talent is impossible to ignore. Her sound moves effortlessly between electro-pop, trip-hop, drum & bass; sometimes dark, sometimes light, always authentic. One moment you’re floating, the next you’re singing along.

Ezra doesn’t play the game, she questions it. At one point, she even stepped away from music altogether. Thankfully, she was convinced to return, leading to her stunning debut album Shadows Of Trust. The title says it all. Ezra’s world is one of cautious observation, dark wit, and quiet rebellion, the perfect breeding ground for bold creativity.

The album collects ten previously released singles alongside two brand-new tracks, all written and produced within a single year. It opens with “Fading Embers,” a song that mirrors her careful, introspective approach before bursting wide open. On “Old Umbrella,” she launches into drum & bass with ease, while “Insta-worthy Dreams,” a collaboration with fellow Amsterdam producer Pillek, showcases her flair for smooth, downtempo electro-pop.

Lyrically, Ezra doesn’t hold back. Whether writing about family, friends, lovers, habits, or the struggle to belong in a chaotic world, she tells her truth with fearless honesty. Shadows Of Trust is dark, beautiful, captivating, and unapologetically Ezra. Press play and let yourself be pulled into her world.

Emmett Jerome - It Ain't Me.

With a voice like worn denim and a songwriter’s compass pointed squarely at the truth, Emmett Jerome returns with "It Ain't Me," a dark, tape-warmed Americana track that exorcises heartbreak and hard truths in one raw, live-off-the-floor performance. It's the sound of dust on boots, a heart in hand, and a young artist wise beyond his years.

Written in a quick flash on acoustic guitar, "It Ain't Me" captures the emotional aftermath of love gone cold delivered from the voice of a character haunted by what once was. "I related the idea of an emotionally unavailable or heartbroken individual to that of a spooked horse," says Jerome. "That tension, that jumpiness, is something I've known."

From Springsteen-tinged lyrics to the swirling blend of vintage amps, banjo grit, and studio tape hiss, "It Ain't Me" straddles the line between classic and contemporary. "It sounds to me like it could be some obscure 70s banjo-rock B-side or a Neil Young/Crazy Horse jam," Jerome says. "We brought in great players rooted in blues, country, and rock. You can hear it."

Tracked live off the floor at Vancouver's Afterlife Studios – a storied space packed with analog gear and old ghosts – the song barely touches a computer. "Aside from a few vocal overdubs and extra banjo, what you're hearing is a band playing together in a room. That energy is everything."

Galore - Field Trip.

San Francisco-based Galore releases their second full length album, Dirt, on July 25, 2025, on Speakeasy Studios SF. With multiple songwriters, sinuous harmonies, and rock riffs born out of an intensely communal creative process, Galore — bassist Ava Rosen, guitarist Griffin Jones, guitarist Ainsley Wagoner, and drummer Hannah Smith — embodies the spirit of a true musical collective.

The album’s theme is in its name: Dirt. In ten songs, Galore takes us back to the sandbox of creativity on an exploration of what makes us human through layers of jangly, off-kilter guitars, interwoven harmonies, and incredible pop sensibilities.

Three out of four members of Galore were born and raised in San Francisco and Oakland, and all of them cite the Bay’s storied music scene as inspiration. Local favorite Grass Widow’s influence looms large in lead-style bass lines and frequent harmonies on tracks like “Solastalgia” and “Dream Palace”, while tracks like “Bastard” and “Zinger” lean on the rowdy experimentation of early aughts femme punk band Hey Girl.

The first single and first song, “Field Trip,” points the way, embodying the collaborative songwriting and playfulness of Galore. Jones opens with stripped down vocals that invite the listener to “take a seat in the meantime,” sung over the light strums of a harpsichord. A driving beat cuts in, Rosen’s vocal takes over, and the track hightails it into a pop anthem for Bay Area summer. “Take me to the land / Take me to the dirt / Where the grass is long and weedy / Where it grows freely,” sings Rosen, opening the album with an exploration of the volatile connection our lives have with earth, creativity, and each other.

Sienna Thornton - After Harvest.

After a long silence since the release of 2018’s ‘Cyanide Thornton’ album, Narrm-based songwriter Sienna Thornton returns with a new full-length album, ‘Birding Out’. This week we see the release of ‘After Harvest’, the first single from the forthcoming album. Says songwriter Sienna about the track “As with a lot of this album I let this song come intuitively, starting with the chord structure which reminded me of patterns in a maze.

Within this I remembered the story of the minotaur from Greek mythology - greed, suffering, nature and nurture, intergenerational threads and the line of twine. This led to linear and non-linear time perception, life-line, body and mind, cycles and spirals, ecosystems and resources - what happens when the extraction of the final harvest has fed our unending hunger.

I found myself trying to find a balance between a desire for certainty, concreteness, and what it feels like to embrace a less tangible, intuitive experience. I tried to imagine where each source of knowing comes from.” The song features Sienna on most instruments, with a range of guest performers including Shaun Fogarty (tenor sax), Emma Stuart (voice), Georgia Knight (voice), Mei Craken (voice) and Luke Brennan (acoustic guitar). It is accompanied by a music video filmed by Sienna and Jasper Lopez on Yuin Country.

“We filmed the video at Hyman’s Beach just above Booderee National Park on Yuin Country. We were told by a friend to go and see the sand there as we were on a drive down from up north. Finding so much beautiful red seaweed in the water was inspiring visually and texturally, it felt like the interior of a body. We acknowledge and pay deep respect to the custodians of this land who have been caring for Country for so many thousands of years.”

Worn Through - Walter The Producer

Worn Through - Everything's Different Now.

Baltimore's Worn Through have just shared a video for "Everything Is Different Now" from their debut LP, Barely Real.

Immediately, with the release of their debut album, Barely Real (via Strange View Records/Just Because Records on June 20), they have found their sound, and harnessed the collective ache of lost time like car wheels down a gravel road. Yet, for all their introspection, there’s a quiet strength in their music, a sense that even in the face of heartbreak and uncertainty, there’s beauty to be found.

Walter The Producer - Modern Rock (EP).

Walter The Producer continues to blaze musical trails with the release of his highly anticipated new EP, Modern Rock, out now. A soul-stirring sonic joyride through an array of genres, the six-track project showcases Walter The Producer’s signature blend of heartfelt storytelling and genre-bending production.

Modern Rock features the dramatically spacey new single, “Lonely Cowboy,” which Walter The Producer crafted with his collaborator, Alex Beitzke, during a whirlwind recording session last Spring.

“I came up with his guitar riff, and we built the song around that,” shares Walter The Producer. “Then, a couple of months later, we got back together and re-recorded everything in a key higher. At the time, I was listening to a lot of Jimi Hendrix. So, I was definitely inspired by Hendrix. But also, by AC/DC and Brent Faiyaz’s song called ‘L.A.’”

Part indie, part soul, part fever dream, Modern Rock is fully Walter The Producer, who has been heralded as everything from “a psychedelic architect” to “borderlessly creative” by outlets like Pigeons & Planes and GLIDE Magazine. Ones To Watch describes the EP as “an effervescent thrill ride through many shades of rock.” In addition to “Lonely Cowboy,” Modern Rock features previously released singles “Little Lies,” “I’d Know,” “Tell Me Again,” “Bad Bad Man,” and “Roadtrip.”
