Saturday Double: Treetop Flyers - The Minerals

Treetop Flyers - 31 Years.

Background promo - For Treetop Flyers, the last few years have been a case of needing to fall apart, in order to rebuild, and come back stronger. Two and a half years on from their acclaimed debut album ‘The Mountain Moves’, fate showed its macabre sense of humour in dramatically shifting the ground beneath the London five-piece. The grief for lost parents, broken marriages, the near-death of a close friend, the departure of long-time bassist Matthew Starritt, the loss of numerous behind-the-scenes personnel (as well as an accountancy bill that they say “would make the government weep”) led to a prolonged period of upheaval and an unsettled and anxious camp. It was perhaps natural that Palomino was to become an honest, raw, and reflective record. As vocalist / guitarist Reid Morrison puts it; “We'd been through a lot individually and collectively. Coming together to make this record was very therapeutic for us, in a sense. It brought us closer and allowed us to let go of a lot of the bullshit that we'd had to endure and negotiate in the past.”

In 2015, after everything, instead of uncovering a lost and haphazard band, their caution-to-the-wind experimentalism sees a group dragging themselves to their feet once more. Sticking together extended far beyond just getting in a room and recording. Palomino is a wholly collaborative affair – no single songwriter is solely credited on any of the record - and you sense it had to be this way. Setting the tone for the album, opener 'You, Darling You' is a reflection on the old saying "sometimes loving someone means letting them go”. In this case it's over a failed marriage, but the record picks up on some of the themes of death and departure that made up The Mountain Moves. It’s a subject the band still find, understandably, difficult to shake, as Palomino flirts with many ideas of finality. 31 Years tracks a goodbye to a friend who passed away during the recording of their debut, and St Andrew’s Cross is a lament to the passing of Reid’s father, used almost in therapy by the band as a way to reconcile the past and the unknown ahead, all at once. Interestingly, it’s the band’s own smart production (as well as tracks like Dance Through The Night and Falling Back) that injects real life into Palomino. Hope permeates above all else, which is nothing less than they should allow themselves after everything they’ve been through. Treetop Flyers emerge triumphant from the most turbulent of times. New single 31 Years, out 26 Feb on Loose. Taken from the forthcoming new album Palomino, out 11 March on CD, double LP & download.

'31 Years' suggests a confident band knowing their business and craft inside out. With stand out vocals and a band who make playing seem effortless, this is a fine rock song, that has some excellent hooks and demands your attention.

The Minerals - Pieces.

Background promo - Based in the South Wales Valleys, The Minerals are Colenso Jones and Jodie Gibson, a couple who began writing and performing together in the Summer of 2014.

Merging elements of Country, Electro and Psychedelia, the duo's influences range from The Vaselines and Leadbelly to Mogwai and Nick Drake. The Minerals strive to retain a raw quality to their recordings with an emphasis on creating a specific atmosphere for each track.

Both musicians were involved in punk bands throughout their teens and early twenties and although their music is no longer confined to that genre, the DIY ethos is evident in their approach to writing and recording. The lessons learned within the punk period of their musical development are still very much ingrained.

The Minerals' writing process involves the merging of individual ideas which are then worked on throughout the night and recorded by morning, by which point they normally have something in place they're both happy with. 'Ball of String' and B-side 'Lo-Fi' were among several tracks written in a barn in the South of France last winter, where the band were unexpectedly snowed in for a week. A plentiful supply of wine and cheese kept them going until the thaw. They returned home having written a complete album.

Live Dates:
April 15th - The Moon Club, Cardiff (supporting Rusty Shackle)
April 16th - Snails Deli, Rhiwbina, Cardiff
Festival announcements are due spring 2016.

With some live dates announced and festival dates in planning, what better reason can we have, to share some of the excellent music from The Minerals, that they came up with last year. This duos music has plenty of diversity, edge and style. To see just how much that's the case, click (here) for some more.

Start The Weekend: The Flavr Blue - Tinted Sun

The Flavr Blue - Supply.

Promo info - In celebration of the release of their EP Love Notes and the announcement of their upcoming tour, the Flavr Blue is proud to share "Supply". Coming after the releases of upbeat satin thrill ride "Oxygen" (feat. Jarell Perry) and sensual synth wave "Majesty", "Supply" is another eargasm that showcases the trio's ability to create multi-textured masterpieces rife with beautiful vocal layering and harmony.

After a 2015 of major milestones, including a main stage performance at Seattle’s Capitol Hill Block Party and a sold out performance with Kiesza for Red Bull's 30 Days in LA Festival, Seattle-based trio the Flavr Blue sets out in support of their newest release, the Love Notes EP, a collection that marries the group's crackling energy with a soulful musical wisdom inherited from influences ranging from Cut Copy and Miike Snow to Feist and Sade.

The band's success is driven by the way its members — lead singer Hollis Wong-Wear, whose voice graced the Billboard Top 20 hit "White Walls" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and singer/producers Lace Cadence and Parker Joe, each with a litany of Seattle hip hop and R&B releases under their belts — weave their voices and eclectic experimentalism within a rich electronic landscape. It’s been that way since the beginning, when they first built tracks in a half bedroom turned studio in Parker's Beacon Hill townhouse. It grew as they translated the sounds to wild live shows, for crowds both charmed and electrified by their combination of heartfelt soul and energetic electronica. 2016 sees the trio embarking on their first ever national tour, in support of Love Notes.

Tour Dates:
February 11th - Black Cat - Washington DC
February 13th - Mercury Lounge - New York City
February 14th - Johnny Brenda's - Philadelphia
February 22nd - Virgin Hotel - Chicago
March 4th - Rickshaw Stop - San Francisco
March 5th - Echo - Los Angeles
March 8th - Lowbrau - Sacramento
March 12th - Neumos - Seattle

We featured The Flavr View not that long ago, but this new song was just to good to ignore. We can give their forthcoming tour a quick plug as well and every ones a winner.

Tinted Sun - Only One.

Those promo words - Toowoomba five piece indie rock band, Tinted Sun are comprised of Lara Hallaran (singer and lyricist), Jamie Sutherland (lead guitar), Callum Oliver (rhythm guitar), Jack Boag (bass guitar), and Joseph Morgan (drums). The band, all 17 years of age and younger, have been performing together in South East Queensland for the last 6 years.

Despite their young age, the band have developed their own identity, through writing original songs that offers a fresh take on familiar sounds. Tinted Sun perform a mixture of indie-punk rock with influences by greats such as Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Bon Jovi and Paramore.

Tinted Sun has been very successful in the Global Battle of the Bands competition winning the Toowoomba section for two consecutive years, placed in the Roma Battle of the Bands competition, and the acoustic section were second in the Valentine’s Day Busk competition in Brisbane in 2014. They continually perform regionally at hotels, restaurants and clubs.

“Only One” showcases the maturity of this young band, not only in the music, but the subject as well. The song explores the post-traumatic stress associated with major life changes and upheaval. The military beating of the drum provides a background for the rock guitar and lyrics, evoking the beat of a heavy heart facing life’s strain.

“Only One” was recorded at Heliport Studios at the Sunshine Coast with the assistance of producer Elliott Heinrich. All photographs of the band were provided by Paul Pugh of Pandom Images.

'Only One' is a melting pot of the bands ideas and some healthy musical influences. The net result is a more indie rock than punk song, a good one nonetheless.

Four More: CLAVVS - Crystal Cities - SheLoom - Andy Ferro

CLAVVS - Leviathan.

Promo words - Atlanta based duo CLAVVS have just released their stunning new single titled "Leviathan." Filled with stunning vocals from frontwoman Amber Renee, she is accompanied by the intricate instrumentation of Graham Marsh. Together the two bring to the table, an honest, heartfelt, and emotional brand of electro-laced-pop that brings their sound to life. "Leviathan" kicks off 2016, one to be a high-profile year for the group, as their charming, yet haunting sound lingers in your ears; drawing you back in every timeIf not for a chance meeting at a house party in Atlanta one summer night in 2013, Amber Renee might never have met Graham Marsh, and the pair might never have realized their shared love for hip hop and Radiohead. That same love would ultimately evolve into CLAVVS, a musical partnership fronted by Amber and produced by Graham, the four-time Grammy winner behind artists like Gnarls Barkley, Kid Cudi, and T.I.

Over two years later, their music has since been featured on Kings of A&R, Jam in the Van, Largehearted Boy, and Yaqui, among others, and on the air via Album88 and Anti-Robot Radio. CLAVVS will also be featured in the 2016 Atlanta episode of The Music Voyager, a PBS series following the lives of creatives in the city. CLAVVS' first single “Sit You Down” was picked up by Fresh Finds, a Spotify curated playlist boasting 40K+ followers. “Throats,” the follow-up release premiered by Press Play, garnered over ten-thousand plays in its first month.

After a case of mistaken identity, CLAVVS (formerly CLAWS) changed the spelling of their name to distinguish themselves from other groups with the same moniker. But really, it’s their music that sets them apart. If the vibe of their latest singles is any indication, the duo is departing from the mainly organic production of their first album and into a realm of dark, hypnotic alt-pop driven by spacey synths and anthemic drums. Given that half of CLAVVS is Graham Marsh, it makes sense that the duo is navigating more progressive waters. With Amber Renee’s sultry, at times eerie, vocals floating atop the organised chaos, CLAVVS has stumbled upon new terrain that just might catapult them into more mainstream success in 2016.

Definitely atmospheric, however also quite energised, 'Leviathan' is one of those songs, that appears to be going in one direction, then builds in another, with strong vocals and defined music. Can't help but liking this song.

Crystal Cities - Talking To Myself.

Background promo - Crystal Cities, was born on a balmy January night in the garage of Geoff Rana’s house, in Sydney's Inner West. They were jamming an older original song, and by starting in a different key after a long session, it revealed a chilled, stripped back and eerily, ethereal version of the once energy driven track. This was the new sound that inspired Crystal Cities to become the other-worldly pop band they are today!

Lead singer, Geoff Rana, is a prolific songwriter and a respected part of the Nashville Songwriters association. Geoff was chosen to write with well respected writers at The Writers Den after being spotted performing at the famous 12th And Porter venue as part of the Next BIG Nashville Music Conference.

The band released their debut single “Cut Me Loose” in 2015 to great reviews. The single gained interest across the U.S gaining rotation at radio WEQX in NY, Modern Rock 98.7 in Carolina and 92.9 in California to name a few.

Crystal Cities began working on their follow up single with The A&R Department and Platinum Artist Development in late 2015. After defining their sound with the debut single “Cut Me Loose”, the band headed back into the studio in December 2015 choosing producer Sean Carey at Church Street Studios in Sydney to begin recording their follow up single “Talking To Myself.”

The band is currently writing material for an up coming EP due for release later in 2016.

'Talking To Myself' is a mixture of vocals over a jangle pop type background. Both elements are strengths with this band, the vocal clarity and range demands attention, whilst musically things are beautifully tight and so, so pleasing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SheLoom - America On Fire.

From the band - Jordon Zadorozny (Blinker The Star) and  Filippo Gaetani formed a transatlantic pop duo SheLoom back in 2008. I live in Tuscany, and Jordan, lives in Canada. During the winter of 2013, our friend and indie chamber pop pioneer Eric Matthews (Cardinal / Sub Pop) joined the band.

Our first single off our new sophomore "America On Fire" is out this week.

The new album boasts a filmic, art rock bedrock tempered with elements of new wave, 70's rock and orch-pop. Outside of a rushed 10-day recording session, the bulk of this album was recorded separately, with files being sent back and forth over the internet.

The album "The Baron Of The Fjord" is to be released on February 5th 2016 on Ray Recordings. And in March we will do a small documentary of the Making Of "The Baron Of The Fjord".

I have only heard the featured track and like what I hear. 'America On Fire' genuinely has that 'timeless' feel I associate with such well crafted music. Album keenly awaited.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Andy Ferro - Sugar and Milk.

Promo words - Today we’re thrilled to introduce Andy Ferro to the galaxy, on behalf of Rough Beast Records. Ferro, who was born in London and raised between there and Nashville, will be releasing his debut full-length Muirhead through the label on February 26th. The first single “Sugar and Milk” is perfectly exemplary of the lo-fi psych folk vibe of the album, which was entirely self-recorded on a dusty old tape machine.

Muirhead is the first release outside of his band Ranch Ghost, and is the product of Ferro’s desire to become faster and more self-sufficient in the process of releasing his music to the public. After buying a tape machine and teaching himself how to use it, the songs of Muirhead quickly began to materialize. As the lead guitar player in Ranch Ghost, Ferro wanted his solo project to feel more stark and close to home, resulting in the stripped-down feel of his new album.

Having put all his efforts that he felt possible into this collection of songs, Ferro gave the tapes to Mitch Jones (Fly Golden Eagle, Thunderbitch, Majestico) a keyboard and sound-effects guru whose playing and atmospheric additions really helped him make it feel like it was finished. Muirhead is the final stage of an artist who has been a keystone in a band, but at the same time, felt he was ready to construct his own musical arch.

'Sugar and Milk' is reasonably indicative of the seven track album. It has a simple low-fi and folk feel, however clearly a considerable amount of love and labour has gone into this work. Very catchy.

Tuesday Two: Quiet Lights - Merival

Quiet Lights - In The Future.

Background - A long time ago, Beehive Candy featured Quiet Lights. Their new record, In the Future, was out last  Friday, Jan 15th, and it reminded me of just how much I enjoyed their somewhat distant last release.

Recorded over two to three years, In The Future features nine songs and shows Quiet Lights heads down in sound-scapes and uplifting restraint. The band describe the making of this album as "two years of entropy, agony, and ecstasy (but never apathy) of weaving layers to get it completed". You can hear and buy more on Bandcamp (here).

The featured 'title' song from the album, is indicative of the superb atmospheric dream pop Quiet Lights produce with such mastery. It is to all intents artful music, however never pretentious, and just so good for your ears and mind and soul.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Merival - Kicking You Out.

Introductory words from Merival - Lovers is a collection, my warm debut. The 5-song EP is shaped by relationships and reflection, finding beauty and transformation in heartache.

Since landing in Toronto in 2012, I have been active in the music community, contributing to projects and collaborating with musicians including Ryan Hemsworth (Secret Songs), Torquil Campbell (Stars), Darren Seltmann (The Avalanches), Swim Good (Bedroomer) and fronting my old band First Rate People.

All of the songs on Lovers were written before I was 20. I wrote 'Kicking You Out', the second single, when I was 17 - it's the oldest song on the EP - about someone I'd been in love with for 2 years already. I'd never lived with him so I took some artistic liberties there; the idea of kicking him out was more of a premonition I had, that I would carry him with me for years and years after the fact and would need to be continually kicking him out of my mind. So far it's held true.

Lovers was recorded with my friend Asher Gould-Murtagh and mastered by Glen Watkinson at Sheepdog Studios.

'Kicking You Out' is beautiful, honest and quite charming. Vocally it is quite stunning and the gentle guitar just adds the right amount of support. You can also check out the delightful first single 'A Better Deal' (here).

Sunday Duo: Slingshot Dakota - Golden Daze

Slingshot Dakota - Paycheck.

Background promo words - Slingshot Dakota is an indie rock band from Bethlehem, PA. Comprised of two people, this band has no shortage of volume, energy and catchy tunes. Carly Comando shreds an 88-key digital piano through multiple effects pedals and provides vocals for the band. Drummer Tom Patterson keeps the beat while energetically crushing his drums, a sight that is both entertaining and inspiring. While Comando and Patterson are influenced by their respective punk and hardcore basement scenes, their music can be described as poppy indie rock. Their live sound is loud, full and raw, but at the root of it all is an addictive rock song.

Over the course of the last three years since Slingshot Dakota's last album, 2012's Dark Hearts (Topshelf), the pair allowed themselves the freedom to write new material at their leisure as well as succumb to the temptation of outside opportunties - Comando, a commercial licensor, earned herself an Emmy Award for her song "Everyday" used in an episode of The Simpsons, Patterson wrote and recorded two albums with his doom metal band, Fog Cult, and what could be their biggest project to date, getting married.

Slingshot Dakota worked with photographer David Brandon Geeting on the album design. "He has an amazingly eclectic style, and his photos represent his interpretation of our record’s theme," explains Comando. The album cover album is a bouquet of flowers with a broken vase taped together in a sad yet hopeful way, and the back cover is the same concept but with a tree branch and leaves. "There’s something melancholy yet beautiful in his art," Comando says. "The images are bright and colorful, even though they evoke something sad." - Release Date: March 11, 2016. Label: Topshelf Records.

'Paycheck' has a punk feel, with vocals initially buried amongst a potent rock beat and fuzz laden digital piano. It's catchy straight music with a bite.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Golden Daze - Low.

Background promo - Formed by Ben Schwab and Jacob Loeb, Golden Daze is a collaborative song writing duo. Inspired by 60's melodic rock and contemporaries like Cass Mccombs and Brian Jonestown Massacre, Golden Daze drenches their straightforward earthly pop tunes in ethereal drones and tape flutter.

The duo, originally from the Midwest (Schwab from Ohio and Loeb from Chicago), are based in Los Angeles and will be releasing their self-titled debut LP on Autumn Tone Records on February 19th.

This week the band shares album cut "Low," a track they say is "like our version of 'I Believe I Can Fly'."

'Low' opens as something of an anthem, with the vocals bringing an additional lift. The sixties melodic rock inspiration, is pleasingly evident on this song, giving it a rich overall texture.

Synth Saturday: Meter Bridge - Pikachunes

Meter Bridge - It Was Nothing.

Background promo - Canadian synthwave duo Meter Bridge are releasing their latest single ‘It Was Nothing’ through WEATNU Records. Comprised of two tracks, this is being offered as a free download via Bandcamp. In this thoughtfully arranged and sparkly composition, moogs whistle and rhythms click into the night, as these two voices blend into a sound that is part Human League, part Blade Runner, and 100% Meter Bridge.

Meter Bridge, who are Richard Kleef and Jill Beaulieu, have a distinctive and unmistakable sonic identity, unique from anybody else on the current electronica scene. This is led by their trademark multi-layered boy / girl melodic vocals, melded with minimalistic groove-infused alternative dance melodies teetering between retro and futuristic.

"It Was Nothing is about a public figure spreading lies that play on peoples' heartstrings... for the purpose of getting millions of people supporting a false agenda," explained frontwoman Jill Beaulieu. "This kind of hypocrisy is very difficult to expose... because ignorance is bliss."

Based in Nelson, Canada, they have been playing together since 2011, gathering an enthusiastic following amongst music aficionados and lovers of classic and contemporary synthpop. In 2014, they released their eponymous debut EP, following by the 'Slow Motion' LP in 2015, both of them drawing significant attention on the electronica scene internationally and landing them in numerous 'Best of' lists in each of these years. The Record Stache (#8 synthpop album of 2015) says their music is "evocative of Man Machine period Kraftwerk, had the German four piece chosen to invent glitchcore on their way to perfecting technopop".

This B-side for this single features a remix by Rodney Cromwell, whose debut 'Age of Anxiety' LP (2015, Happy Robots Records) introduced electronic pop lovers to some epic retro future synth music.

Distinctive synths and dual vocals, and with hints of Krautrock 'It Was Nothing' is an imaginative hook laden song. The sort that gets me digging deeper on a band.

Pikachunes - You Are.

Background promo - Melbourne artist, Pikachunes has unveiled the first single from his forthcoming record, Allely. Premiered on Purple Sneakers, ‘You Are’, works Pikachunes’ strong, thematic vocals atop his metallic, dark undertones that he's become renowned for.

‘You Are’ conceptually follows the story of a young boy with a heavy heart, encountering the nerves that we find nestled in the pit of our stomach, to the controlled quiver of talking through our teeth once met with intimidation.

"Featuring some intimate and rather vulnerable lyrics that are quite revealing, but juxtaposed with a huge wall of sound that is his off-kilter brand of electronica, there is just something about this that has got us well and truly hooked!" -  Purple Sneakers

‘You Are’ is the first single taken from Pikachunes’ debut Monday Records album, Allely, to be available in 2016.

Live Gig - Thursday, 21st January @ The Evelyn Hotel, Melbourne.

'You Are' opens in pulsating style. Then the story unfolds, there is something as stated above quite 'vulnerable' within the lyrics, whilst musically everything is in control, it's fascinating.

Genre Wandering: Woods - Fritz Helder - The Bulls - Ify Jerry Krusade

Woods - Sun City Creeps.

Promo bio - On April 8, Woods will release its 9th LP, City Sun Eater in the River of Light on its own Woodsist label. This week the band shares the album's first single "Sun City Creeps", plus full album details (see below) and its first batch of tour dates in support of the album, most of which will include openers Ultimate Painting (see full list of dates below).

"Woods have always been experts at distilling life epiphanies into compact chunks of psychedelic folk that exists just outside of any sort of tangible time or place. Maybe those epiphanies were buried under cassette manipulation or drum-and-drone freak outs, or maybe they were cloaked in Jeremy Earl's lilting falsetto, but over the course of an impressive eight albums, Woods refined and drilled down their sound into City Sun Eater in the River of Light, their ninth LP and second recorded in a proper studio. It's a dense record of rippling guitar, lush horns, and seductive, bustling anxiety about the state of the world. It's still the Woods you recognise, only now they're dabbling in zonked out Ethiopian jazz, pulling influence from the low key simmer of Brown Rice, and tapping into the weird dichotomy of making a home in a claustrophobic city that feels full of possibility even as it closes in on you. City Sun Eater in the River of Light is concise, powerful, anxious-barrelling headlong into an uncertain, constantly shifting new world." - Sam Hockley-Smith.

Apr-22 - Toronto, ON - The Garrison
Apr-23 - Chicago, IL - Lincoln Hall *

Fritz Helder - Force Of Nature.

Background promo - Azari & III's Fritz Helder just unveiled the title track “Force Of Nature” as well as the B-Side “Force Of Nature” (The Bad Seed Manipulation) and a brand new music video off his forthcoming debut solo EP, Force Of Nature.

Comprised of six original tracks, Fritz Helder's Force Of Nature EP will be debuting on September 2, 2016 on London-based label AVSR.Following his recent collaborations with Sydney Blu & Blue Gates, Sinden, Andrea Oliva and fellow band member Dinamo Azari, the performer, vocalist and cultural influencer isn’t wasting any time releasing his debut solo project.

The title track “Force Of Nature” represents both an announcement and a confident distillation, packaged up into a vogue banger that embraces colourful, worldly vibes and mesmerising, throbbing grooves. “Force Of Nature” (The Bad Seed Manipulation) is a hyper kinetic re imagining of the title track, with playful, syncopated drums and a bazaar of beats that kick start the party to eleven. This track and other unexpected turns concludes Fritz Helder’s Force Of Nature release as a multidimensional piece that merges the polish of avant garde art-pop with the high-energy, slinky sounds of the dance floor.

"This being my first solo endeavour... I feel like my naïveté and vulnerability are on full display with this first collection of songs," Fritz says of his solo project. "I'm giving up the ghosts of my past and carving out a place of my own. I purposefully ventured away from what I thought people would expect from me..." Fritz Helder’s debut EP is marked by both its ambition and a sense of the new - fierce and unapologetic, this is Fritz Helder’s Force Of Nature.

This is a really powerful song, with vocals that just demand your attention. The equally forceful rhythm and beat, just adds to the whole mesmerising piece.

The Bulls - Prudence.

Background promo - Less than three weeks away from her all-female Girlschool festival, Anna Bulbrook's The Bulls are premiering a new song, "Prudence" with the single going on sale today, Friday, January 15. Although not unlike their previous output, Bulbrook successfully attempted to reach a bit further with her songwriting, and specifically her vocals for the latest single.

"This song is about a real person named Prudence whom I love dearly and who always seems to be running both towards and away from the finer things in life at the same time. When I wrote it, I was just starting to figure out my voice by aping different male vocalists whom I loved. And for this song, I was singing along to David Bowie every day, listening to his voice and trying to channel the smallest scrap of his spirit. Turns out he is, was, and always will be a thousand percent inimitable. At least by me."

"Prudence" prefaces the Girlschool festival, "Field Day Weekend" which is the logical extension of Bulbrook's August residency at the Satellite in Silver Lake. The festival is an inclusive event, giving the opportunity for fans of all gender identities to be a part of a contemporary, female, musical movement. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Rock’n’Roll Camp for Girls LA, a non-profit empowering and nurturing young girls through music education.

The resonating bass line and darker vocals lead us into a delightful dreamy indie pop excursion, that is 'Prudence'. Fill Top 40 radio with songs like this, and I might start listening again.

Ify Jerry Krusade - Everybody Likes Something Good - Wake Up You! Vol. 1.

Background promo - The Western world was in the throes of peace, love, and flower power as Nigeria descended into Civil War in 1967. The rock scene that developed during the following three years of bloodshed and destruction would come to heal the country, propagate the world-wide ideal of the Modern Nigerian, and propel Fela Kuti to stardom after conflict ended in 1970. Wake Up You! tells the story of this time, pays homage to these now-forgotten musicians and their struggle, and brings to light the funk and psychedelic fury they created as they wrested free of the ravages of the late 1960s and created thrilling, original Nigerian rock music throughout the 1970s.

Wake Up You! is presented in two 100+ page books full of never-seen photos and the story of the best Nigerian rock bands told in vivid detail by musicologist and researcher Uchenna Ikonne (who helmed the 2013 critical sensation Who Is William Onyeabor?). Each volume is presented as both a hardbound book with CD in a resealable plastic sleeve, and as a double LP with a soft-cover book included in a custom made 12" x 12" book holder. Vol. 1 is set for release on April 15 with Vol. 2 to follow in late May.

All I can say is that if the featured track by 'Ify Jerry Krusade' is anything to go by, then the thirty four songs that span the two CD's will be absolute 'must hears'. I have to say I had no idea Nigeria had a rock scene throughout the seventies, I live and learn.

The Chemistry Set - The Splendour Of The Universe.

The Chemistry Set - The Splendour Of The Universe.

Extensive promo words - Cult London Psychedelic band The Chemistry Set have quite a history. Founded by Dave Mclean and Paul Lake in 1987, the band are veterans of the alternative Manchester label “Imaginary” and cassette only label “Acid Tapes”; they helped pioneer the late 1980’s neo-psychedelic boom.

The Chemistry Set counted Factory Records boss Tony Wilson amongst their fans (they appeared on his TV show). They also received regular airplay on the legendary John Peel’s show (Peel even went so far as to sending the band a hand-written fan letter!).  The Chemistry Set have been championed by mainstream media such as The Times Sunday, Record Collector, XFM, 6 Music and Classic Rock as well as underground fanzines like Bucketful of Brains and Freakbeat in the UK, The Bob in the USA, Ruta 66 in Spain and Sound Effects in Sweden).

Their numerous releases (The Chemistry Set’s discography currently stands at 42 releases!) both in the UK and abroad were accompanied by extensive tours throughout the UK, Europe and the United States.. As well as reaching the indie top 20 in the UK, the band’s single “Don’t Turn Away” made the national Top 20 in Spain.

The band split in the early 90’s, took a bit of a hiatus, remaining silent… until The Chemistry Set “MACH II” remarkably reappeared in 2008! The return came about when their unreleased LP from 1989 “Sounds Like Painting” somehow was uploaded onto numerous blogs and was downloaded over 5,000 times. Since the return in 2008, the second stage of the group has seen the birth of 3 CDs: “Alchemy # 101”, “This Day Will Never Happen Again and “Chemistry is Just Numbers” plus 5 vinyl singles and 5 compilation appearances. Their first new release “Alchemy#101” in 2009 was heralded with radio play on BBC Radio 6 and XFM plus rave reviews.

It was a track on “Alchemy#101” that caught the interest of Cult Arranger/songwriter [and former Electric Prunes member] David Axelrod. The band made contact with his son and sent the CD to David. He loved how they added a symphonic section of his song “Sanctus” from The Electric Prunes’ masterwork “Mass in F Minor” into their reworking of Del Shannon’s “Silver Birch”. Originally found on Shannon’s “The Further Adventures of Charles Westover”, his cult 1968 LP. David said of their cover “Real Music! Finally music that makes you think and really listen to!”

The Chemistry Set have always liked giving things a “twist” , and have inserted a cover  version inside a cover version on other occasions, such as their version of Pink Floyd’s  “See Emily Play”. It had the “Bicycle Rider” section of The Beach Boys from the unfinished “Smile” album inserted within the song. Their cover was included in the 2013 Pink Floyd tribute box-set "The Many Faces Of Pink Floyd" and was cited as one of the best covers in the package.

In 2011 the band signed to French label Dead Bees records, which were the first European label to release The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Black Angels. In 2012 Dead Bees released their second album “This Day Will Never Happen Again” it received substantial critical acclaim and radio play in the USA, France, Spain and the UK.  The English newspaper The Sunday Times saying "The Psychedelic scientists exquisite English Toytown Acid-Pop songs achieve rare combinations of muscle and melody”.

The band were still up to their old tricks of putting a cover within a cover on the recently released Fruits de Mer records Box-Set of seven 7” vinyl singles entitled “7&7 is”. They cover “A House Is Not a Motel” & “Live And Let Live” by Love from “Forever Changes” and on “Live And Let Live” they have inserted some more Electric Prunes (this time an excerpt from “Get Me To The World On Time”) into Arthurly’s autobiographical confession.

The band released the “Elapsed Memories” EP in February 2015 to rave reviews and airplay. It included an unusual  cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Love or Confusion” given a twist with 12 string acoustics, sitars, tablas and a mellotron. The New York Music Daily said of their version “The Chemistry Set re-invent Hendrix’s classic as an Indian Jam”

The band returned to the studio in the spring of 2015 to record their new album “The Endless More & More”. The album will feature 12 original songs plus a bonus 12”featuring their cover of Hendrix’s “Love or Confusion” and 2 remixes.

The opening song from the forthcoming new album 'The Endless More & More' due this month 'The Splendour Of The Universe' is er.. well splendid. Loads of words above and believe me, they have been edited down, however it makes for an interesting 'potted' history of the band and a good introduction for those not familiar. in the meantime have a listen and find out for yourself, what an exciting album (based on the calibre of this song), is heading our way.

Jim Wellman - Dawn To Dusk (New Album)

Jim Wellman - Probably Good (Radio Edit).

Promo Bio - In Autumn 2014, ex Brand New Heavies Jim had no intention to work in music again. However with world events and in particular the western support of fascism in Ukraine, together with ensuing propaganda from the mainstream media, he felt he had to do something to express his dissent. Over a year in production, the result is a new Jazz/Funk/Disco concept album from Jim entitled Dawn To Dusk. He considers it to be his best ever work.

The album is social commentary, but viewed through perspectives of human psychological evolution, and analysis of mass communication and propaganda. The core of the work is the understanding that Man lives in a world of amazing technological development, but is still encumbered with medieval forms of government by representatives who serve mainly the interests of the elite. With the net, and a completely new concept of two way mass communication for all, the ability of the oligarchy to manufacture consent  for its interests has suffered and cracks are beginning to show. The signalled intention is clear that the response is to destroy net neutrality and subvert the Internet to allowable information only.

Jim uses the mechanisms of human evolution to show how this is wrong for humanity, and instead advocates new forms of direct democracy and openness through an uncensored Internet. Jim was a founder member of the Brand New Heavies in 1987, and subsequently worked on his own albums featuring Roy Ayers in 1994 (Time and Space) and Love Not Truth 2005.

The full album is due out on February 29th, 2016, Jim Wellman will be releasing an EP as a preview of the album entitled "For the First Time" on Feb 8th.

'Probably Good' is but a small taste of an incredible piece of work. Beyond the featured radio edit we have a (four track) EP, to preview the soon to follow (eleven song) album. Musically the album is superb both in composition, arrangement and execution. Both Jim Wellman and guest vocals help convey a serious message whilst supporting the overall class of this musical journey. If you like Jazz Funk this is a must have, if you are not sure, it's still probably a must have.

David Bowie: 1947 - 2016

David Robert Jones (8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016), known professionally as David Bowie... Plenty has been written and said about David Bowie today, I cannot add much more. Musically his work has been exceptional. As Beehive Candy is just about music, a few personal words on David Bowie the singer, composer and musician.

Many years ago a friend managed to get me a ticket to see David Bowie at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon (UK). The following concert at Hammersmith, London, was sold out, the concert where David Bowie 'retired' his Ziggy Stardust persona. I can still remember that Croydon concert, the excitement, atmosphere and being right up the front for the encore and being totally absorbed in the moment.

I went on like so many growing up with David Bowie's music. Musically he became some sort of reference point for me, I didn't always find his work to my taste, but I could not go without giving all of it, a fair listen. There are very few others that fall into that category for me. I went on to see him in concert on a number of occasions, always a showman he entertained and certainly on the gigs I went to, made his recorded material even more special.

As I said, we are just about music on Beehive Candy, so thank you David for being so generous with yours. Below is a 2002 David Bowie concert, we updated in June 2015 on Beehive Candy, it's just a moment in his history, enjoy.

David Bowie - Live In Berlin - 2002

This is a revision of the original feature we ran on David Bowie - Live in Berlin 2002, back in 2007, edited and with additional material.

Circulated both as an audio CD and DVD bootleg, the source material was from  a television broadcast by German satellite TV channel SAT1, on the 9th February 2003.

The CD bootleg is often called 'Come To Daddy' and along with the DVD, was recorded as part of David Bowie's 'Heathen Tour'. The concert was recorded at the Max Schmeling Halle, Berlin, Germany, on the 22nd September 2002.

On 11 February 2002, it was announced that Bowie had accepted the role of Artistic Director at the Meltdown Festival, an annual music and arts event held at the South Bank complex in London, England. David Bowie's Meltdown 2002 run from 14 to 30 June, with a schedule of concerts and events including performances by The Legendary Stardust Cowboy, Coldplay, The Waterboys and a London Sinfonietta performance of Philip Glass's Low and Heroes symphonies. The closing night was billed as The New Heathens Night with Bowie headlining the event with support by The Dandy Warhols followed by a DJ set from Jonathan Ross.

The Heathen Tour proper began at the Meltdown Festival with Bowie embarking on a series of European performances including a link-up with Moby for the 12-date North America Area:2 Festivals with a return to Europe for a further six performances. Before returning again to North America to perform a final seven shows with the first five in each of New York City's five boroughs, dubbed The New York Marathon Tour by Bowie, who quipped; I could get home from all the gigs on roller skates.

It may be the case that David Bowie has a bitter - sweet affinity with Berlin, having produced some of his most intriguing music there, along with facing up to his personal addictions of that period.

Adam Stafford - Taser Revelations

Adam Stafford - Atheist Money.

Background promo - Adam Stafford returns with his first album in nearly three years following the widely acclaimed Imaginary Walls Collapse in 2013.

Taser Revelations was recorded at The Happiness Hotel, Song by Toad's newly aquired warehouse recording space. Utilising the warehouse's natural room reverb to great effect, the album features producer and multi-instrumentalist Robbie Lesiuk performing a variety of instruments including steel drums, organ and piano. Greggor Douglas plays the Roland Juno/omnichord and ex-Maple Leaves Anna Miles provides harmony vocals.

Continuing Stafford's trajectory into electrified alternative pop, Taser Revelations begins with some of the most melodically catchy songs he has ever written, before taking a swerve down a dark alley midway through the album, venturing into industrial syncopation, samurai-guitar attacks and some unsettling, vivid imagery. Album available (here).

'Atheist Money' makes a good introduction to Adam Stafford's new album 'Taser Revelations'. If this is electrified alternative pop, then for me, the key word is alternative. Full of ideas and unafraid to take less pop orientated directions, the nine song album has plenty of imagination and enough hooks to keep the listener engaged throughout. Assessable, curious and yes catchy, this is a very pleasing album.

Two For The Weekend: The Wealthy West - Eileen Carey

The Wealthy West - I've Got To Go.

Background bio - Brandon Kinder may not be a household name but there's a good chance you've heard his songs or voice somewhere over the past few years as front man for Austins anthemic rock group The Rocketboys.  As a solo singer under his own name and his Wealthy West moniker Brandon's music has been used in an enormous array of TV shows, indie movies and commercials.

On 'Long Play' his debut LP as The Wealthy West he lets his fancy fly free and sets of on a grand journey. Themes of travelling, searching and seeking, tie many of the songs together. The Wealthy West becomes a character looking for something he may never find... or has already found and has to convince himself of that. Ultimately there is an honesty to the music. There are no wasted lyrics to fill space. Where The Wealthy West is clear on his road there is a sense of joy. Where he's confused or foundering there's a feeling of hope and experience to get through it all.

'Iv'e Got To Go' is the first of eleven songs on the album 'Long Play' (due for release on February 9th). The album is full of melodic, thoughtful songs. As I read the bio above, I thought it may be at the least, a little fanciful. Having heard the album if anything the words are understated, regarding what is a very good album.

Eileen Carey - Faith.

Background promo - The endlessly versatile vocalist Eileen Carey and her latest single, “Faith,” roar in the new year with an astounding eight cross-format award consideration nominations from New Music Weekly. The single has also just hit the #1 spot on Both New Music Weekly Country Charts. Talk about Faith paying off!!

Moreover, Carey’s YouTube channel has been garnering new and repeat viewers by the thousands, and her heightened prominence has earned her an upcoming guest appearance on “The Weekend Morning Show” on KCAL-TV, the CBS powerhouse in Los Angeles.

Carey is up for a nomination consideration for Female Artist of the Year, Best New AC/Hot AC Artist and Breakthrough Artist of the Year in New Music Weekly’s AC/Hot AC category.  In the Country division, she’s in the running for Female Artist and Breakthrough Artist of the Year.  And to tie it all up in a bow, she’s also contending for the Crossover Artist of the Year trophy. “Faith,” which she co-wrote with Kathryn Grimm, is vying for both AC/Hot AC and Country Single of the Year honours.

At last count, Carey’s popular YouTube channel had racked up more than 100,000 views and was still growing.  She will doubtlessly expand her fan base Sunday, Jan. 10, when she brings her musical magic to “The Weekend Morning Show” on KCAL-TV.  Carey is back in the studio this month recording her next album in Los Angeles.

I received the above promo and nearly ignored it. Plugging a TV appearance in Los Angeles didn't seem a very good fit for Beehive Candy. Anyhow cutting to the chase, I listened to 'Faith', thought to myself, this is good, so you get the song to listen to, and Los Angeles readers get a free TV reminder.

My Darling Fury - Satisfied

My Fury Darling - Satisfied.

Background & promo words - There is a bruised elegance, razorsharp wit, and quirky theatricality about the music of Richmond, Virginia-based band My Darling Fury. With a name that evokes thoughts of vulnerability wrapping its arms around unbridled rage, the indie pop trio of Todd Matthews, Joel Hollister and charismatic frontman Danny Reyes, defies genre limitations with songs that celebrate the unpredictability of life and love. Following the release of their debut album Licking Wounds in 2013, the band returns with A/O/K, out this Winter; a record that continues to push their singular aesthetic in new and exciting directions.

My Darling Fury’s affinity for complex rhythmic structures, operatic-sized dramatics, and chamber music intimacy should surprise no one, considering that Reyes and Matthews both come from classically trained backgrounds. With a pliant, strikingly beautiful voice that recalls Freddie Mercury, Andrew Bird and even Nate Reuss of fun., Cuban-American singer Danny Reyes conveys poignant lyrics in both English and Spanish, through songs that devastate and inspire. Looping and layering his acrobatic vocals with the assistance of an effects processor, he infuses the band’s sound with Afro-Cuban rhythms and harmonizes with himself in real time.

Bassist and sound engineer Todd Matthews integrates cutting edge music software and subtle electronic textures into the fabric of the band's everfluctuating song structures. While manipulating the sounds of electric and bowed upright bass, he continues to experiment and develop new and innovative dialects for his instrument. Together with drummer Joel Hollister, whose atmospheric dynamics and percussive strokes elicit more remarkable sounds out of a sampler and a traditional drum kit than predictably expected, the band continues to evolve. Defending the dark horse, embracing optimism, and staring into the eyes of adversity, My Darling Fury invite you to rewrite their future and yours. -Ryan Lathan (Pop Matters, Sonic Hive).

I find it difficult to know what to add to the fine words above. 'Satisfied' is my personal introduction to the band and the song sends goosebumps right through me. A quick search and I found a couple more older songs (here) and straight away, there's two more albums on my 2016 wish list. Six days in and this could be an expensive year..

Third Ear - The Ghost Road.

Third Ear - The Ghost Road.

Promo words - Third Ear engage the senses and offer an exquisite arrangement of themes and mood, designed to gently guide you as you embark upon a shared journey. Sometimes breezy, laid back and cool, sometimes taut, explosive and rollicking, Third Ear’s musical works are textured throughout with depth, imaginative flair and a soulfulness that seeks the heart.

Having well served their “live music apprenticeship” by travelling and performing extensively across the country supporting various headliners, Sunshine Coast based act Third Ear have released their debut single “The Ghost Road.” Produced by Mark Paltridge and recorded at Spark 1 Studio’s Maleny, The Ghost Road displays a captivating mix of classic American 60’s surf beat and Jim Morrison style dark lyrics and overtones reminiscent of The Doors.

According to Third Ear, “‘The Ghost Road’ is written from the perspective of a person attempting to conquer psychological torment, depression, guilt and anxiety, as it treks through wastelands of fear, turmoil and inner despair.” Deep rich vocals, a “killer riff”, and a hauntingly effective undertone graphically illustrate the subject matter with drive, purpose and gusto.

This is one of those songs that I will play far to much. Vocals are wonderful and the no nonsense musical soundtrack is just right. For me it's a little bit like a brighter version of the Sisters Of Mercy and maybe The Doors, but hey, what a mix to be likened to.

Monday And: Cabin Cults - Midwest Soul Xchange

Cabin Cults - Lights Out.

Background promo - After sharing stages with the likes of The Jungle Giants, The Cairos, North East Party House and more, Adelaide’s Cabin Cults are now gearing up for their headline launch show for new single ‘Lights Out’ January 16 at local watering hole The Hotel Metro.

Taken from their just released EP ‘Riot Is The Watchword’, ‘Lights Out’ is an energetic slice of synth driven post-punk with an urgent lyrical desperation of disbelief that’s all wrapped up in a Pixies inspired pop sensibility. Teaming up with producer Badcop (Tkay Maidza, Mio), the band have craftily captured their jam room instincts while ultimately shaping their material with an electro inspired sound.

The fraternity of Cabin Cults is made up of brothers and friends and indeed hails from the city of churches where the myth of purity amongst the reality of depression is evident throughout the city. The habitus that shapes them plays through them and through this body of work reveals the cracks in the veneer that binds them. Expect to hear more from Cabin Cults in 2016 as the band also prepares to announce east coast dates along with plans to head back into the studio.

Taken from a four song EP 'Lights Out' typifies the natural energy of Cabin Cults. The expression used in their promo 'synth driven post-punk' is pretty much spot on. It's upbeat, pleasing, and there's enough hooks in all four songs, to make a second listen more or less mandatory.

Midwest Soul Xchange - Roots.

Background promo - Imagine a duo that combines its Americana, folk/prog rock and pop influences with a passion for the sounds of acts that range from Kula Shaker, Pink Floyd and Tenacious D to The Beatles, The Decemberists, Queen and Michael Jackson.

Eclectic, perhaps? That's the robust template established by Midwest Soul Xchange, comprising Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin-based troubadours Nate Cherrier and Ryan Summers. The pair has been buds for nearly two decades, but only recently recognized their sonic synchronicity as songwriters, vocalists and instrumentalists. By year-end 2015, their 11-track debut full-length album "New American Century," is destined to hit the streets.

Each brings their unique talents to the XChange, with Nate contributing percussion and rhythm tracks as the "enchanting wizard of rhythm" and Ryan serving as the "professor," adding synthesizers, lead guitar and working as producer and engineer for the upcoming album. They prefer to deem themselves... the "maestro" and the "master."

Meanwhile, the duo dealt with the challenge of collaborating from afar... sort of. Even though they both grew up in Wisconsin, Nate was living in Phoenix during the recording process, meaning that every note and beat was literally an "exchange" of ideas. Now that the work is done, "New American Century" sashays comfortably between the pair's numerous beloved musical genres—while maintaining the identifiable signature and melodic moxie that has already become the act's calling card in live gigs.

I'm playing catch up again as this song has been around for a while, and the album was released back in November. However the album is so good, I did not want to miss out on giving them a mention. 'Roots' is but a small taste of the creativity of Midwest Soul Xchange, who travel through genres and styles with ease and top it all with superb twin vocals.

Bad Reed - EP

Bad Reed - EP.

Background Bio - Brantford, Ontario pseudo-rockers Bad Reed channel a multitude of popular and obscure influences into unique snapshots of passion.

Bad Reed released their first professional studio EP last year, and it's available on line for free (Here).

Bad Reed is Costa Chatzis on percussion, Austin Sharpe on bass, Sydney Sollazzo vocals and keyboards, and Graham Walker on guitars. Hailing from small towns and diverse backgrounds, Bad Reed consists of members with varying music tastes. The group emerged in March 2015 from the ashes of their previous acts to forge a new, focused force of nature. Strip-searching music's history while fusing modern zest, they are likened to acts from Alt-J, Hozier, Jack White, and The Black Keys to Snarky Puppy, The Mars Volta, and Esperanza Spalding.

Bad Reed is engaging and danceable. Bad Reed is happiness and strife. Bad Reed is harmony and dissonance. Bad Reed is overcoming the odds and getting even. Expect to hear them on more radio stations, to see them touring farther, and playing many festivals in 2016.

Three songs make up Bad Reed's first studio EP. It's been around for a while, however I only got to hear it for the first time yesterday and was really impressed. Above comparisons noted, they have enough of their own art and style shining through, and are really worth a listen.

Gooch and the Motion - Comin' Home

Gooch and the Motion - Coming Home.

Artist, Ryan “Gooch” Nelson and his band, Gooch and the Motion, are preparing to release their debut album, “Comin’ Home,” on February 19th 2016.

Background - Ryan “Gooch” Nelson is an inspiring quadriplegic cancer survivor from New Jersey, who hasn’t quit since his paralyzing 2004 auto accident, with an infectiously upbeat attitude and an ability to write and perform equally infectious blues-based rock.

His producer, nine time Grammy winner Joe “The Butcher” Nicolo (Billy Joel, Cypress Hill, Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill, Boyz II Men, DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince), thought enough of Gooch to make him the first artist on his new record label, Blacbird Records, distributed by Universal.

On his Facebook page Ryan 'Gooch' states - I am a quadriplegic, musician, writer, & a man of many hats. I am living my dream and want to inspire others to never give up on theirs. The Washington Post carried an article on Gooch and can be found (here).

The background story regarding Ryan 'Gooch' Nelson is both moving and humbling. That said musically Gooch and the Motion are featured here, not out of sympathy, but because they are such a fine band, and the forthcoming debut album is quite stunning. There's a mixture of blues rock orientated tracks and the title track is just a 'toe in the water' regarding the sheer variety that is included. Everything from vocals to musicianship has a truly natural blues feel, it really does have 'Cajun Sparkle'.

Wednesday Double: Mind The Journey - Angela Burns

Mind The Journey - Rose Colored Glasses.

Background promo - Raised on a tranquilising shoreline in Connecticut, Spencer Sabo spent his youth learning the drum set, making crazy films with his brother, and exploring his creativity. In high school Spencer found like minded peers and started playing drums in a band. Here he began his journey of learning the ins and outs of audio production, recording and mixing the songs they created. It wasn't until the age of 17, when Spencer began experimenting with an old keyboard, that Mind The Journey was born. He made sure that what was in his head was the exact way his creation came out.

This lead to Spencer releasing his first dreamy 8 song EP, of which gained buzz both on line and locally, with him playing shows in the New England area. Years later in Boston, a now almost-man and adrift introvert, Mr. Sabo is releasing his first 12 track album, entitled Colour In The Gray Machine, which was entirely created in his makeshift basement studio. Release date: January 5th, 2016.

'Rose Colored Glasses' quickly builds into a psychedelic maelstrom, before cooling off into a gentler synth and vocals piece. It's the sixth of twelve tracks on this intriguing album. There's a mixture of psychedelic rock (and pop) that at times seem to be suppressing the desire to break out into drum and bass. Original ideas meet retro styles, that make for a pretty cool album.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Angela Burns - All Together.

Background promo - Raised in the suburbs of Austin, Texas, Angela grew up listening to 90s grunge, pop-punk, and post-grunge bands circa 2000s. Her biggest aspiration being acting, she wrote her first song at age 9 and began playing drums in a band with her two sisters, Kathryn and Carolyn. After working as an actress and playing local shows in Austin, she graduated early from high school and subsequently relocated to Los Angeles with the goal of seeking out more opportunities as an actress and musician.

A multi-talented and surprisingly experienced 21-year-old, her work can be seen behind the scenes in film (Richard Linklater's "Boyhood", Robert Rodriguez' "Sin City 2"), in front of the camera, and on her first musical effort,  "So That You Can Feel Better". Her uniquely dark and emotive take on the genres is largely a result of her punk and underground rock leanings, and can be heard on a new eight track mix tape HERE.

'All Together' is the first of the eight tracks, and makes as good a starting point as any. Angela's music certainly demonstrates her punk and underground leanings, but those genres don't dominate the music, and she certainly puts her own style and ideas at the forefront. There's a link above to hear all eight songs, if you like the featured one, your in for a very pleasant surprise.
