Gris-de-Lin - Muhammad Ali.
Background - Gris about the song: "Inspired by a true story – a patient escaped from a local hospital and broke into my old flat overnight, leaving behind a pile of clothes and a nametag that read ‘Muhammad Ali’. This got me thinking about incarceration, whether physical or mental, and the idea that ‘whatever you do to me I will still have freedom of thought’."
Gris-de-Lin is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Dorset. Her music is a heady mix of post-rock, blues and alt-folk peppered with warped electronics. Her debut album, Sprung, comes out on BB*Island in April 2018. The album was recorded in a nursery school and saw her playing virtually all of the instruments herself — from guitars and synths to drums and saxophone. Working with producer/engineer Chris Hamilton (Torres/Kite Base), she also drafted in Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey/Anna Calvi) to play drums on several tracks. Alongside her solo projects, Gris-de-Lin has worked with a number of other artists, including Jim Sclavunos (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), Joe Gideon, The Duke Spirit, Tunng and Gemma Ray.
“Gris-de-Lin blends alt-rock, folk, world rhythms, skronky jazz and glitchy esoterica into a beguiling whole on her debut album, balancing strong melody with consistently inventive sonic texture. 8/10.” Graeme Thomson, Uncut Magazine. FACEBOOK.
It's two years and a few days since we featured Gris-de-Lin. I was pretty certain we had, however time flies and I didn't realise just how long ago it was. Anyhow 'Muhammad Ali' was/is more than worth the wait for a second share, as we are treated to some robust post rock of sorts, that cries out for attention, and attention I am most happy to provide, ahead of her much anticipated debut album.

Archie and The Bunkers - Laura.
Background - Archie and The Bunkers share their new single "Laura,"Songs From The Lodge Out 4/20 on Dirty Water Records. Cleveland's Archie and The Bunkers -- made up of brothers Emmett and Cullen O’Connor -- play "hi-fi organ punk," drawing influence from jazz organ greats like Jimmy Smith and Richard “Groove” Holmes and punk icons like The Stooges and The Screamers.
Since forming in 2013, the duo has shared stages with everyone from Iggy Pop, The Sonics, and Echo and the Bunnymen to Black Lips and Thee Oh Sees, and they've released music on Norton Records, In The Red, and Jack White's Third Man Records.
The band will release their sophomore LP, Songs From The Lodge, on April 20th via Dirty Water Records. Today, they share lead single "Laura," which features Cullen’s whirring, over driven organ wailing above the driving beat of Emmett’s four-piece drum kit. WEBSITE.
I am so enjoying Archie and The Bunkers a duo who never cease to delight with their raw energised and stupendous musical assault. 'Laura' is our third song feature and once again the power, speed and sheer vibrancy is here in abundance!

Tremends - Hands On The Wheel.
Background - "Hands On The Wheel" is the latest effort by the Miami rockers. The single is now available through Gummdrops Records.
The track is a gentle, piano based song, distancing itself in style from the normal Tremends sound of indie/brit rock. The vocals and piano are performed in their majority by Alejo Rozas (drums), with band members Juan Rozas and Alex Posada providing more of a backing role. The end result is a beautiful and relaxing track to enjoy on a Miami evening.
The video accompanying the track sees the return of double exposures and starts off with footage of the Florida Tri-Rail to then move on to Alejo singing and playing the guitar and piano. The colors of the video are soft and relaxing like the track itself, and remind one of sunset.
"After some time apart anticipation grows, driving back all night towards the dawn of a haunting en counter becomes poetry. Are they coming home to fall in on their arms again? Or is it only the craving of a hopeful dream? Love may be gold but sometimes distance brings despair." - Alejo Rosas. FACEBOOK.
'Hands On The Wheel' is a gently paced song, that is smoothly melodic and full of gorgeous vibes. The piano, vocals and remaining musical parts are perfectly in sync as the tracks restful nature spills out.

Trampled By Turtles - Chakra Efendi - Willie Breeding - Scratch
Trampled By Turtles - The Middle.
Background - The much-adored Minnesota sextet, Trampled By Turtles have shared their new single, ‘The Middle’, the second to be taken from their forthcoming album Life Is Good On The Open Road, due for release via Thirty Tigers on June 1, 2018 - you can listen to the new single here. After an indefinite hiatus, the band are returning with their first new album in four years following in the wake of previous Billboard-charting records which have included three No.1s on the Bluegrass and Folk charts.
Life Is Good On The Open Road is the welcome return that the group’s legions of passionate fans have been waiting for. Led by the songwriting of lead singer Dave Simonett, the new songs touch on key elements from the entire spectrum of Trampled By Turtles’ body of work, while creating something that sounds fresh and invigorated. Simonett, and bandmates Erik Berry, Ryan Young, Dave Carroll, Tim Saxhaug and Eamonn McLain reunited at a cabin in the Minnesota woods to see if the special chemistry they once shared still existed. It did not take long for the magic to reveal itself with an invigorated sense of purpose and the result shines brightly on Life Is Good On The Open Road.
After 15 years of recording and performing high-energy live shows, Trampled By Turtles have built a large and loyal fanbase that fill venues in their home of the US and here in the UK. As well as touring with the likes of Hiss Gold Messenger and Deer Tick, Trampled By Turtles have performed at festivals including Bonnaroo, Coachella and Lollapalooza, and performed twice on the David Letterman show. WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.
Trampled By Turtles have a developed and beautifully crafted maturity to their music as is demonstrated ably by 'The Middle'. The bands musical competence is gorgeous and the vocals are a perfect match for the bands take on roots music, mixing Bluegrass, folk and with this track even a hint of country rock. Foot stomping and catchy as anything, this track is like a magnet pulling us towards the June album release.

Chakra Efendi - Waste of Space.
Background - Having already amassed a dedicated following in far-reaching corners of the internet, prolific 18-year-old wunderkind Chakra Efendi shares his first official release, 'Waste of Space'. Attracting streams of 100K+ on a series of demos on SoundCloud, Chakra Efendi's uniquely forthcoming, noise-tinged brand of lo-fi pop has been steadily connecting with pockets of fans around the globe. Coming to further attention last year with a collaborative track with Memo Boy, 'Insomniac', the Brisbane based artist's characteristic sullen-yet-uplifting soundscape meets heavy-lidded lyricism in this debut, 'Waste of Space'.
"I wrote ‘Waste of Space’ during a part of my life that I was experiencing dissociation for the first time. I was completely oblivious and uneducated as to what it was that I was feeling", Chakra Efendi explains. A seldom acknowledged topic often disregarded as a symptom of approaching adulthood, the track traces "a very confusing time where my world was a constant blur of artificial people and scenarios that seemed as if they had been written as the plot for a bad sitcom."
Chakra Efendi expands to a four-piece live, consisting of Marli Smales (bass), Thomas Hobbs (guitar) and Fin Marx (drums) and in their short existence, the band have supported the likes of GUM, Crywank, Good Boy, I Know Leopard, These New South Whales and featured on bills for Gizzfest, Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and Against The Grain festivals. If a debut single wasn't exciting enough news for the young Brisbane artist, he can now add a manager to his team, in the form of Mucho Bravado's own Aisling Kissane. Garnering a reputation as a must-see live act and with more music on the way, 2018 will witness the burgeoning sonic coming-of-age of Chakra Efendi. FACEBOOK, TWITTER.
'Waste of Space' has a vibrant musical backdrop that complement Chakra Efendi's vocals as he sings his lines in an almost casual manner. Collectively the song flows with gentle hooks everywhere, and a level of interpretation that is natural and beguiling, another artist to keep an ear out for.

Willie Breeding - Ride On.
Background - Nashville based newcomer Willie Breeding will release his debut album ‘Big Sky’ later this summer. The melodies are rich and wavy, complementing the lyrics born from a life torn between their years in New York City, and their generations in Nashville.
Following the release of ‘Prague Spring’ from it at the end of 2017 (a lonesome ballad featuring guest vocals from Caitlin Rose), now comes next single ‘Ride On’. “It’s a song making fun of myself” Willie explains. "When I first moved to Nashville, I used to go out and often when I would walk into the bar, I would walk straight through it and out the back door.
It wasn’t a conscious thing, I almost wouldn’t even remember being in the bar. Then I would have no idea where to go or what to do. Living in New York, I always loved going out by myself. Did it for years. Nashville seemed very different. So I wanted the music to sound huge, and I had this big riff. Seemed appropriate for a song making fun of myself." FACEBOOK.
A somewhat dramatic rhythm is soon joined by some wonderfully wailing guitars as 'Ride On' gets underway. The vocals are rich and enticing on this genre defying indie something song, it's addictive and demands far more attention than just a couple of listens.

Scratch - Newer Things / Soak.
Background - Scratch is a rock band based in New York and Perth combining diverse musical influences and comprising of Ruzbeh Irani and Avinash Lalwani.
Living thousands of miles apart hasn't stopped band mates and childhood friends, Ruz and Avi, from pursuing their dreams of making music together.
Scratch's debut album is set for release in 2018, and the duo are excited to share their creation with the world. WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.
Whilst we don't have much information on Scratch we do have two fine tracks from the band to enjoy. 'Newer Things' quietly gets underway with an understated musical arrangement and some intriguing and pleasing vocals, before eventually upping the power and developing the music into something more rocky. 'Soak' is more of a fully energised rocker from the opening chords and something of a mini epic as the piece unfolds. Pretty good to say the least, for a duo with an ocean to separate them.

Ruby Vidor - Diamond Thug - Basement Revolver
Ruby Vidor - Ten Days.
Background - Ruby Vidor, is a 19-year old Melbourne based singer-songwriter releasing her debut independent single, 10 Days. 10 Days is a song about the pain and heartache when time conspires against a relationship. It’s melancholy and gentle vocal underlies the heartbreak that weaves through the captivating melody.
The lyric starts with a question - can the relationship survive? As the songs builds it reaches the conclusion that the relationship has come to a natural end.
“I wrote this song whilst studying in New York. Relationships start with such promise and yet often the timing is just not right” stated Ruby Vidor. As a songwriter, Ruby loves to tell stories that are inspired by real life experiences. She has a passion to tell a story that connects her with her audience. The folk vibe and love of storytelling is inspired by her greatest musical influences, Missy Higgins, Joni Mitchel and Birdy. Her musical style ranges from Pop, to Indie and even a little bit of country.
‘10 Days’ was recorded independently in 2018, mixed by Andrew Kerridge. The music and lyrics were written by Ruby Vidor in 2017. FACEBOOK.
Upcoming Show: 3rd April - Holy Moly Bar, Hawthorn, Victoria.
'Ten Days' is a sensitive modern folk song. Ruby Vidor's vocals are personal, melodic and refined, add in the beautifully structured musical arrangement and it's impossible to ignore the track or the artist.

Diamond Thug - Sapphire.
Background - In 2016 the South African band, Diamond Thug, recorded their debut EP with the help of Dave Minehan (The Replacements) and released it to waves of support, Indie Shuffle calling it ‘…a joy to listen to’. After significant support on a double platinum selling collaboration, Diamond Thug have introduced their music internationally with singles ‘Eclipsed’, 'Cosmic Dreamer' and 'Sweet Return' which have garnered fast increasing support. 'Choo Choo' is available via Phonofile.
Since their formation, Diamond Thug have continually evolved, always striving to create a unique sound that’s stay true to their perspective. Their music glides through dream-pop, skittish, off-kilter electronica & psychedelic-rock, creating cosmic-influenced ethereal soundscapes, which swirl below Chantel’s haunting, yet beautiful melodies.
The pursuit of an authentic & honest sound has earned the band various honours in international competitions such as Culture Collide’s pick to perform at SXSW 2017, as well as Converse’s Music Global Takeover and the attention of Grammy Award winner Darryl Torr, who had this to say about the band: "When listening to Diamond Thug, you are taken on a journey. It’s the effortless vocals, supported by a solid band, that tips you over the edge & pulls you through into their world. It’s rare to find a voice that can execute such interesting melodies so effortlessly as well as a band that leaves space for the vocals to shine, yet are able to maintain musical integrity." WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.
We featured Diamond Thug a couple of times in 2017 and so the new song 'Sapphire' was of real interest. The bands creative style of alt rock is centred around some smooth melodic vocals and harmonies, there is something of a fresh Americana feel to the song, along with some deep digging hooks.

Basement Revolver - Lake Steel Oil.
Background - Ontario trio Basement Revolver have re-released their critically acclaimed self-titled debut EP in a limited run of vinyl pressings via Label Obscura. Formed in the honest grit of Hamilton, ON, the band has seen a quick and notable ascent into the spotlight with their unique brand of 90’s infused indie-rock. Basement Revolver has been able to formulate a captivating and refined hypnotic aural experience typically found with those who are well beyond their years. Rarely captured in first works, the band exhibits this maturity and ensures promising future releases.
“Lake, Steel, Oil is song that kind of grows and progresses with me moving through life. It starts out with me and my sister as kids watching the northern lights on Manatoulin Island. As a young adult, I moved to Hamilton while my sister moved to Alberta as a newlywed. The song turns to reflect on Hamilton – this city that I have come to love and to call home. It is a reminder that our lives are short, so we shouldn’t waste it. So I guess that those are all things that we tried to show in this video – how as a band we all have our separate lives but we all find a home (in some form or another) in Hamilton. It is what brought us together as a band.”
Before the release of their debut, Basement Revolver was already opening for accomplished acts such as Dave Monks (Tokyo Police Club) and others. Sensing something special between the band, six months into the project they seized the opportunity to record with local studio, TAPE (Memoryhouse, The Dirty Nil, Single Mothers). Together with Adam Bentley and Jordan Mitchell they began to sculpt and carve out their signature atmospheric sound. Gaining momentum, they soon decided on releasing their debut single, “Johnny”, which encountered an unstoppable wave of support with grassroots endorsements from sites such as The FADER, DIY, Indie Shuffle, CBC, Exclaim! Magazine, and numerous others.
Basement Revolver’s self-titled debut proved to be a success eventually being released via Memphis Industries’ UK sub-label Fear Of Missing Out. The band continued this momentum with the release of their follow up EP Agatha in 2017 which received overwhelming support from fans and critics both old and new. FACEBOOK, WEBSITE.
I have to admit to being a real fan of Basement Revolver ever since I first heard their song 'Johnny' back in 2016 and 'Lake Steel Oil' is our fifth feature for the band. The recent vinyl re-issue of their first EP alongside this new music video is good reason for another chance to showcase the band, whose enchanting & timeless music deserves far wider attention.

Annabel Allum - Bryde - Drinks - Dead Man's Knee - Birdpeople
Annabel Allum - Rascal.
Background - Guildford-based Annabel Allum shares boisterous new single Rascal, her second offering of the year following acclaimed January release Beat The Birds and critically successful 2017 EP All That For What. Loaded with pulsating hooks and the enigmatic singer-songwriter’s tenacious vocals, Allum oozes charisma and once more showcases her ability to marry folk-style storytelling with snarling fuzzy indie.
“Rascal pinpoints a phase in time when it felt like no matter what I was doing, it wouldn’t be right”. Allum says, “Trying to look after myself, the people close to me, the people around me, and never finding a balance in any of it. I would either give too much or nothing at all. I still do that. It’s quite a sad song. Self-scrutiny, really. I guess I’m just still learning that it’s okay to not be able to please everything all the time”.
Alongside the striking sonic aesthetic of her music, her original look and self-styling has led to endorsements from Bastian Classics, Cheap Monday and various other indie clothing brands. Liam Corneloues on bass and Emma Hiley on drums complete Annabel’s trusty band, prepped to deliver raucous sets throughout the festival circuit in the UK and Europe this summer.
Rascal was produced by Adrian Hall (Goldfrapp, Du Blonde, Anna Calvi) and was released by London indie label Killing Moon Records on yesterday. WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.
We shared 'Beat the Birds' by Annabel Allum back in January and now we have 'Rascal'. Once again we have an expansive rock backdrop pulsating with power, whilst her vocals are more than equal to the soundtracks potent challenge as they melodically soar above.

Bryde - Peace.
Background - With debut LP Like An Island a month away from release, Bryde ups the ante on new single ‘Peace’. With her masterly understanding of dynamics and counterpoint, alongside her unbridled lyricism, ‘Peace' sees Bryde at her most amplified. Throughout her career Bryde has tackled challenging subject matter, exploring the curious relationship between vulnerability and empowerment with a psychological nuance and honesty that pegs her as a truly distinct new voice on the international indie circuit.
Mixed by Catherine Marks (Wolf Alice, PJ Harvey and St Vincent), and mastered by Mandy Parnell, it's a record of catharsis which gives a voice to bad times and exorcises old demons. Her cagey verses morph into expansive choruses as Bryde expertly plays around with the contrasts between loud/quiet and soft/heavy.
Bryde says of the track; “Peace is about the warm glow of two drinks and real connection with another person. It's about the end of anger and the settling calm after a storm. Being able to be entirely yourself and still be liked. I had to make it the loudest track on the album because if something's not a little subversive.”
Like An Island is scheduled for release on the 13th of April via Bryde’s own label Seahorse Music. Bryde founded it to publish records by like-minded women and help make them more visible in a male-dominated industry. This record is the culmination of all of Bryde’s experience with her craft so far, and support for it is also rapidly ramping up, with NPR recognising Bryde's voice as “equally stunning and chilling.”
Bryde will set off on her biggest UK, IRE and EU tour so far. It’s a sprawling 29 date stretch in April and May that will see her peddling her inimitable brand of incisive lyricism and raucous rock and roll to her widest audience yet. There is little doubt, whether on wax or on stage, that this year is a pivotal one in her career so far. ‘Peace’ is out now with Like An Island to follow 13th of April on Seahorse Music. WEBSITE, TWITTER.
And it's our second feature this year for Bryde and the new single 'Peace'. It's another fine taste of what's to come with the debut album just weeks away, this time we have a feisty rocker, which makes a good companion for Bryde's melodic and lively vocals.

Drinks - Real Outside.
Background - Cate Le Bon and Tim Presley (White Fence) have teamed up for a second album as Drinks. The new album, Hippo Lite, will be released on Drag City worldwide on April 20, 2018. Drinks began in 2015 with the release of their debut LP, Hermits on Holiday on Presley’s own Birth Records.
“A month spent in an old mill in the under belly of France.
River swimming thrice a day.
Hot nights soundtracked by the rattle of randy frogs. Scorpion fear. In the sheets, on the face.
Hours of bird watching – no phone service. No wifi. 3 DVDs; Jurassic Park 1, 2 & 3.
Violin practice. Bread scoffing.
Early morning coffee drinking before the sun was too hot to do anything but snooze in the thick walled house. Music in the afternoon after a dip in the river and a cold beer on the square.
An album made for each other by one another with no hands, eyes or ears piercing the bubble other than that of dear friend Stephen Black who kept note of it all.”
– Cate Le Bon
“In a town, so very still and quiet.
A month in St. Hippolyte Du Fort, South France.
Where completely all of their brave young men vanished forever from the death machine of the first world war.
At one time left with only women and young girls.
Only relics of time standing still.
All the deceased names of men chiseled under a stone angel, that watches over the town square.
We set up a recording unit in an old stone mill turned house and began to write and record with the attention of tree trimmers or gardeners.
It got so hot we had to swim in a local river near by just to be able to think, then back to our home to make sounds and songs. Any sounds we could think of or wanted.
We used night sounds, night insects and used frogs as instruments. Did you know frogs have saxophones in their throats?
This is a broken music. a crumble. It’s the music of the building we called home for a month. We’ve never made & recorded music in such a simple living environment.
With all the ease, and air we needed. We were in a town 8 miles over from Robert Crumb’s hidden residence.
We lived in a mysterious place.
We had a flock of bats over for dinner many nights. No internet, or a phone to look to.
We had a beautiful big stone house, a river, and from time to time a lovely elderly yet young-hearted couple who would visit.
It was the opposite of what a typical recording experience usually is for any of us.
We tried to capture all of this and put it on record.”

Cate Le Bon and Tim Presley under the guise of Drinks have come up with an exceptional album as is only partially witnessed through the featured song 'Real Outside'. It as "out there" as anything I have heard in a long time, quirky, avant-garde, refreshing and highly original, it's also very moreish, in fact it's an album I find myself returning to out of continued intrigue as much as delight.

Dead Man's Knee - Pleasure.
Background - A paradigm shift in popular culture put the heady rock and roll excesses of the late twentieth century (sex and drugs) into the hands of contemporary commercial hip hop. ‘Pleasure’ is Dead Man’s Knee’s no-holds barred hard rock debut single that lyrically sets out to explore the shame prevalent in rock and roll over its hedonistic past.
There’s a freewheeling sense of experimental progression akin to Funkadelic, and a contemporary hard rock edge like QOTSA at their most Led Zeppelin, but frontman Del’s vocal approach recalls the rootsy body singing of Chuck Berry and Little Richard. It all combines to make a fearsome three minute head banger that’ll have you shaking out on to the streets, bopping to your nearest dive bar to break every new years resolution you thought you were serious about.
Dead Man’s Knee are a group from London who come from a background of blues, rock and roll, gospel and soul. Comprised of Del on guitar and vocals, Angelos on guitar, George on bass and Leonn on drums, the group have already earned their stripes playing as session musicians on the pop and soul circuit while also coming together (sans Angelos) as a rhythmic core for Jodie Abacus. Del and Leonn grew up in London from the same church community while Angelos and George both came from Greece.
The group formed in 2015 with Leonn replacing their old drummer in late 2016. As their fearsome debut single ‘Pleasure’ demonstrates, the four-piece have an electrifying chemistry, reanimating the bones of vital and exciting hard rock while lyrically questioning the dogma of the long-faded rock and roll lifestyle. This is modern rock stripped of the pretence. It’s not packaging and selling you a hedonistic dream, it’s offering a nuanced critique on the role of pleasure in our lives. Sometimes it’s healthy to step out the zone and wild out. FACEBOOK, TWITTER.
'Pleasure' explodes into action as a full on straight down the line rocker. The vocals are pure rock & roll, potent, determined and commanding as the band turn out some super charged riffs, Dead Mans Knee are on fire and burning bright!

Birdpeople - The Monument.
Background - Birdpeople are not your regular pop outfit. Points of departure include Walter Benjamin, the Hyperobject, Reza Negarestani, Hayao Miyazaki, Andrej Tarkovskij, God, Fritz Lang, Robert Wiene, Alejandro Jodorowsky; a volatile love-hate relationship with contemporary art music; the zombie-like doggedness of plant life: viriditas vs. the smooth face of the everyday; Capitalism, the gender system, downfall and ruins; family and the impossibility of breaking free; affinity, camaraderie, loss, grief, decay; having the rug pulled out from under you; living like a shadow of yourself; the way back or out of here; nerves; dead capital and living labour; architecture and anti-techture. It’s a post-apocalyptic salvage-op in anticipation of the Collapse.
The members’ former project fell apart due to a sense of diminishing urgency. Guitar music seemed patriarchal beyond redemption, and in a fit of desperation they bought a semi-modular MS-20. None of them knew the first thing about analogue synthesis, but that was precisely the point. They projected old sci-fi flicks onto the wall of their rehearsal space, recording improvised music directly to a portable cassette recorder. Work on an EP soon began under the supervision of producer Magnus “Existensminimum” Monn, who shared the band’s musical claustrophobia. The songs resisted violently: writer’s block, homemade instruments, derelict vintage synths, sonorous metal scraps fashioned into a tree.
“We wanted to build a utopia out of all this riff raff, and somehow this became our way of making music feel like it mattered again. Using hardware synths makes played parts irrevocable, it limits and hinders – a paradoxical deliverance. There were times when we couldn’t communicate except through the sounds we made; sometimes we were like a harmonious hive mind.”
The nom de guerre Birdpeople was solemnly adapted after work on the EP was concluded. It’s meant to convey the impression of a family, or, rather, a cult. That was what the trio felt they had become during the process. Birds, ever present in the band’s lyrics, became their spirit animals. “We wanted to address the ambivalence of this wondrous-yet-harrowing imprisonment of being human. Nevertheless, music seemed to offer some way out of the compulsory nature of human-being. Bird-being thus became a metaphor for a kind of cyborgs-to-be, for the potentiality of being more than human – possessing wings, talons and beak, being able to observe the world from above.” Birdpeople are Amanda Blomqvist, Cecilia Wickström and Jakob Lavonius. Magnus “Existensminimum” Monn is their producer and next of kin. FACEBOOK.
A swift flowing beat introduces 'The Monument' that soon upgrades into something notable as the vocals and layers of sound develop. Rhythmic, creative and something of a musical journey at just short of seven minutes, Birdpeople keep you guessing and reward you with some beguiling twists along the way.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Background - Guildford-based Annabel Allum shares boisterous new single Rascal, her second offering of the year following acclaimed January release Beat The Birds and critically successful 2017 EP All That For What.

GRDNS - The Division Men - Preoccupations
GRDNS - Juniper.
Background - Psych-rockers GRDNS share latest effort Juniper, the second cut from their upcoming EP out later this year. Emerging from the largely forgotten and multi-cultural northern city of Bradford, the indie quartet burst onto the scene in February with woozy, off-kilter rock number Night Dance before heading out on the road with Husky Loops and whenyoung, drawing widespread acclaim in the process.
Discussing the release, frontman Jacob Lyons stated: "Juniper takes influence from both the modern and vintage surf sounds with a prog/alt section at the end but doesn't particularly sound like either. It was the first song we got together as a full band and the lyrics frequently reference the colour blue and a few of its colour palette relatives. The meaning of the song is open to interpretation, like all the rest will be".
GRDNS' own blend of psychedelia, heavily influenced by Tame Impala and Humbug-era Arctic Monkeys, has already landed them support slots with acts including Stereo Honey, Sea Girls and The Pale White and they'll be playing their debut London show in May before an appearance at Live At Leeds. FACEBOOK, TWITTER.
Live Dates:
02 May – Sebright Arms, London
05 May – Live At Leeds Festival.
We shared 'Night Dance' from the band just over a month ago describing that track as having "a delectable psychedelic feel." The new song 'Juniper' is more alt rock in nature, with GRDNS comfortably demonstrating that they can explore differing styles whilst retaining an armoury of hooks that makes their music so engaging. It has to be said, the EP is eagerly awaited.

The Division Men - Heaven Knows Why.
Background - "Niños Del Sol" is the 3rd album by The Division Men from Austin, Texas. The album was recorded over a period of two and a half years while touring and living in Texas. Five of the ten songs have been rerecorded. These songs have come off the first LIVE album titled "Live at Clap of Thunder." By revisiting the older songs, the band was able to open itself up to experimentation and collaboration.
The Division Men's named was derived from the idea of artists collaborating from all over the world despite their locations. J. Spencer and wife Caroline continued to actively write and perform together under the already established name.
Caroline was born in San Antonio, Texas. She spent her childhood surrounded by music. Caroline is the granddaughter to the master craftsman, Don Martin Macias, known for his handcrafted bajo sextos. Proud of the craft of her grandfather, she made an effort early on to make music an active part of her life by first experimenting with school band & later picking up the bass guitar. From 2007 until 2012, she played bass guitar for Tito & Tarantula. J. Spencer Portillo was born in Los Angeles, California but was raised in El Paso, Texas. His El Paso roots offer a huge influence on the lyrics which frequently present atmospheric portraits of love, life in a border town and death.
The new album was recorded at their in-home studio in Austin, Texas. The Division Men has a distinctive sound that has been described as dark, romantic, ethereal and haunting. The Division Men will be actively touring and promoting their new album "Niños Del Sol" from August to December 2018. WEBSITE.
From the opening moments the musical production signals quality and depth as 'Heaven Knows Why' quickly unfolds. That's hardly surprising considering the calibre of those who have worked on the new album, beyond quality however there is heart and passion in abundance. I'm not sure what genre to try and fit this song into, lets just say it's unavoidably addictive.

Preoccupations - Disarray.
Background - Preoccupations are days away from unleashing their latest creation New Material, out this Friday on Flemish Eye in Canada (Jagjaguwar in the rest of the world). Now the band are following with a third single and a stunning new video directed by Ruff Mercy. The video for “Disarray” was shot at Saunton Sands in North Devon in the UK and features Matt Flegel, the band’s songwriter, vocalist and bass player.
Matt says, "When I was writing "Disarray", it started off with an image of a mother combing her daughters hair that came into my mind, I liked the metaphor of splitting the braids and combing through the tangles, and wrote the rest of the lyrics around that image. This song sat untouched for close to 6 months as a recording with just bass and drums before we came back to it and wrote and recorded the guitar line while out of our minds one night in the early AM."
Director Ruff Mercy noted, "For me the word Disarray conjures up images of a mind unravelling in a chaotic way. I wanted to physically show that inner turmoil without having to have Matt or an actor run around with a painted face looking distressed so to cut up and distort and draw over Matt’s image felt like an interesting way to show this."
Preoccupations are preparing for their next world tour which kicks off next month with shows in Toronto (The Garrison, April 13, and a Horseshoe Tavern on April 14) and then Montreal (Theatre Plaza, April 16). The 4-piece will then tour the North America with dates in Winnipeg, Edmonton, two in Calgary and Vancouver on May 9th, before continuing on an extensive tour of the UK and Europe. WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.
Preoccupations are getting plenty of attention with 'Disarray' having 20 thousand plus views before I can even embed it here. Dreamy indie pop/rock with just a hint of bands like The Psychedelic Furs, this is one gorgeous song from a band who are clearly on something of a well earned roll right now.

MAWD - Atlantic Machine - Krantz - Ganser
MAWD - Dark Room.
Background - MAWD is the moniker of California musician and songwriter Madeline Matthews. Her stunning compositions fuse rock’n’roll, folk/blues and pop. The soulful, textured timbre of MAWD is diverse and ranges anywhere from a breathy and sultry folk/blues vibe, to a powerful Janis Joplin-esque/Karen O. belt.
Her vocals perfectly imprint upon the sonic foundation laid by quivering electric guitar, haunting harmonies, classic acoustic folk rhythms, south western inspired Americana bass lines, and full percussion. MAWD is a true musician playing the piano, guitar, ukulele, bass, accordion and some banjo as well.
MAWD’s upcoming single ‘Dark Room’, profiles the feeling of isolation that so many of today’s use experience today. “I felt like I was going crazy, sitting in my dark dingy dorm room, struggling with the longing for a comforting feeling, trying to fit in, feeling like a stranger in my skin, and discovering a new dark part of my mind”, reveals MAWD. ‘Dark Room’ is an explosion of soulful husky vocals, over gritty guitars and powerful driving rhythms. MAWD has been compared to the likes of Elle King, Janis Joplin and Alabama Shakes.
Her debut self titled EP is produced by Roger Gisborne of Los Angeles based record label Sound x3 and Josiah Mezzaschi (Rilo Kiley, Kate Nash, The Jesus and The Mary Chain) and mastered by Brian Lucey (The Black Keys, Beck, The Kills). MAWD has headlined sold out shows across the globe and will be performing at SXSW this spring. ‘Dark Room’ is currently available worldwide. FACEBOOK, TWITTER.
The vocals have some fine and natural blues vibes to them on 'Dark Room' a soulful rocker that has both passion and plenty of "play me again" hooks, it's natural and desirable.

Atlantic Machine - Automatic.
Background - London duo Atlantic Machine have released thier debut single Automatic (16th March) followed by the album Mosquito on 18th May. Atlantic Machine are Producer and Grammy award winning Engineer Jim Lowe (Stereophonics, The Dandy Warhols, The Charlatans) and Vocalist and Guitarist Tiffany Page, who first met in the studio before forming their own musical partnership.
The pairing sees the baritone voice of Jim mixed with Tiffany’s raspy tones to create a unique new wave sound. Debut single Automatic is a dark electro-pop track that builds with synths and strings to a powerful and emotive chorus. The band say;
“It’s about how we all do things automatically through our life. It can be how we automatically love someone or love someone despite being treated badly. It can be how we automatically carry on doing the daily grind. It is abstract enough to make it your own interpretation…"
Recorded in London at Jim’s home studio and Rak Studios, forthcoming album Mosquito includes collaborations with String Arranger and Cellist Laura Anstee, who has performed with Bjork, Kanye West, Adele, Jay Z and Florence & The Machine and Drummer Jamie Morrison (Stereophonics, The Noisettes). WEBSITE, TWITTER.
Atlantic Machine gradually increase the power on 'Automatic' where a seductive vocal duet is backed by an increasingly layered sound-scape, where mystery abounds.

Krantz - Until We Meet Again / Run Away.
Background - Nashville-based, alt/psych-rock band, Krantz, drop new lyric video, "Run Away From Me” and single "Until We Meet Again" from their upcoming EP, The Pennock Tapes, due out April 27. The single is an anthem dedicated to feeling stuck in a rut and disheartened by living in the shadows and realizing how nothing is going to change unless one takes a chance.
With a retro style and influence from the golden age of rock and roll, but with a modern touch, Jeffrey Krantz and his band bring a psychedelic/pop/rock edge equipped with an in-your face attitude.
Influenced by his drummer father and the Beatles, he embraced music as an expressive medium at the early age of 12, and developed himself as a musician, songwriter and artist. Leaving his home state of Iowa, traveling the world, touring over 200 days per year with the “Effects” and opening for bands such as the Kings of Leon, Shinedown, Foreigner and the Toadies, Jeffrey made the decision to “live the dream” and eventually landed in Nashville.
Recognizing the world was in dire need of some melodic rock he continued to write, record and eventually self-produced his own self-titled album. Krantz hit the studio between tapings of MTV’s music competition, “American Supergroup” where he eventually became a finalist in the competition.
A entwinement of provocative lyrics and no-holds rock and roll, Krantz sees his music as a balanced combination of frantic ecstasy and introspective depths. Alternating between crazy antics, a dash of face paint, and a meaningful look within, Krantz feels that his music is the perfect blend of his extroverted personality. Drawing from his influences of The Beatles, Weezer, and T-Rex, Krantz looks for meaning and purpose within his rock N Roll sound. WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.
'Until We Meet Again' opens with some classic riffs and a gorgeous guitar sound whilst the vocals are refined and easy on the ear. With 'Run Away' we have more gorgeous rock vibes and once again the melodic hooks are there in abundance. The band clearly have a knack for catchy unpretentious rock songs, that's plenty enough for me!

Ganser - Avoidance.
Background - “Avoidance” is the second new single and music video that the Chicago post-punk band Ganser has shared from their forthcoming debut album Odd Talk (out 4/20 via No Trend Records). “Avoidance” is a sharp pain of miscommunication, the exhaustion of trying to be understood by someone you love but your language is all wrong. Ultimately, the effort is pointless. Nadia Garofalo's voice rises and falls with synth washes over driving bass and drums, while Charlie Landsman's guitar punctuates with sharp flourishes. In the video, cars race in a sparse desert landscape towards an unknown end.
Throughout Odd Talk, Ganser’s amorphous sound takes on the form of their comedically grim, absurdist subject matter. Exercising both introverted melody and extroverted noise, the band finds meaning through echolalic shouts and murmurs. Garofalo shouts and barks with an acerbic edge, while Alicia Gaines' vocals soothe and swell. Mumbled, spit out, Ganser explores communication breakdown from beginning to end... seeking meaning in mess, they sort through syllables and signals to find the right words. “Avoidance” follows the album’s first critically-acclaimed first single “PSY OPS” (buy/stream), which came out last month.
After the bands’ headlining record release show @ Glitter Creeps’ party at the Empty Bottle on 4/16, the band will also be heading out on tour in support of Odd Talk (all dates below). They’ll be performing a string of shows with Bloody Knives before heading venturing out on their own in the Southeast. WEBSITE, TWITTER.

It is just four weeks since we shared the first single (Psy Ops) from Ganser, 'Avoidance' makes for a very welcome follow up. The music video is retro (just love those classic cars), the song a potent rocker packed with determination and emotion, expect plenty more on the forthcoming album, it's going to be worth the wait.

The pairing sees the baritone voice of Jim mixed with Tiffany’s raspy tones to create a unique new wave sound. Debut single Automatic is a dark electro-pop track that builds with synths and strings to a powerful and emotive chorus. The band say;

Man Mountain - JC Brooks Band - Elliott Heath
Man Mountain - Memory Trace.
Background - There is power in the repetition. When stretched across an infinite plane, even the smallest elements become transformatively integrated into the greater picture. Tones to spectrums. Feathers to flight. Molecules to mountains. Spartan Records proudly welcomes Man Mountain to the family — a melodic, instrumental post-rock outfit from Southeast Michigan. In the honorable lineage of bands like The Appleseed Cast, Sigur Ros, and American Football, Man Mountain's debut record Infinity Mirror is a journey of emotive dynamics set against a swirling dreamlike ferocity.
“With Infinity Mirror, we wanted to capture the sonic intensity of our live set,” says guitarist Mike Reaume, “that feeling when everything kicks in and your are entirely immersed in the sound.” Song by song, the album progresses with an intentionality that allows delicate melodies, motifs, and nuances to build into quaking full-band aggression. “We didn’t want any two songs to sound like different versions of the same idea,” says Reaume, describing the albums play between fragmentation and cohesion. “We wanted each song to explore a different facet of musical influence for us both individually and collectively.”
Intentionally avoiding a traditional studio recording path, Infinity Mirror was tracked in a variety of unconventional locations. With ultimate attention paid to sonic integrity, gear selection, and reckless experimentation, the record took shape over the course of many months. “The overall tonality of Infinity Mirror is much different from anything we’ve done before,” says Reaume. “The clean tones are much more pristine and shimmering, and the heavy bass parts just get amazingly filthy.” Once tracking and mixing were complete, final mastering details were handled by Mike Kalajian (Circa Survive, Prawn, Moving Mountains).
Thematically, the album presents a constant duality. Aptly titled Infinity Mirror, it is hard to ignore the unending and cycling conflict associated with any type of prolonged reflection. Sonically translated, this pondering plays as understated notes and moments reverberating into upheaval and dissonance. While the catalyst for much of this direction can be traced to the internal, the band also acknowledges the influential power of their surrounding physical environment. “Michigan is a beautiful state that really inspires a sense of adventure and exploration,” says Reaume. “It also can be somber and brutal in the winter. I think that definitely can be heard in the contrasting vibe of a lot of the songs we write. Even the way the album flows is from more upbeat ‘summer’ songs to more melancholic ‘winter’ songs — like the cycle of the seasons." FACEBOOK, TWITTER.
I have mentioned before that we do not receive many instrumental based bands at Beehive Candy. Man Mountain are therefore very welcome, especially as their post rock musical material is both refreshing and atmospheric as is the case with 'Memory Trace' one of six tracks on this much recommended album.

JC Brooks Band - Anywhere But America, Part 1.
Background - “Anywhere But America, Part One” was created to satisfy the need for the JC Brooks Band to return to their soul roots. What was not known was that the song would be a scrupulous break up letter to America that would stab any lover in the heart. The music lays out visuals of a ghostly platform for JC to write his ode to America. The choir and use of the church organ throughout the song, played by renowned recording artist Frank McComb, continues to paint a backdrop of a funeral held in a black church.
JC cleverly entangles lyrical ideas from M.L.K’s “I Have a Dream” speech with the Star Spangled Banner. “Anywhere But America, Part One” is a witty villanelle expressing Black America’s disdain for the country’s actions of the past and present.
The band’s percussionist JoVia Armstrong composed “Anywhere But America, Part One” and lead vocalist JC Brooks wrote its lyrics. Armstrong focused on creating simple chords for a simple song that will guide attention to JC’s lyrics and vocal delivery. The studio production of the song took it to another level of intensity. The band recorded the song in just two takes. Adding male and female choir-like vocals to the background made it a bit more Gospel. A dark and haunting reverb was added to the kick drum in the verses.
Renowned recording artist Frank McComb was in Chicago during the production of the song and the band was able to grab him to play organ, which really took us to church. The lyrics are compelling and JoVia’s composition and production create a solid, powerful vessel to carry their message. Red Black & Blue, Vol 1 is an EP about the evergreen frustration of being gas-lit by someone who's only slick enough to trick himself but not you. WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.
Soulful, bluesy and rich in emotion 'Anywhere But America, Part 1' is a timeless and fabulous song. The vocals and harmonies are pure roots and gorgeous, the musical arrangement pristine, love it!

Elliott Heath - Foaming Floor.
Background - Stepping out from behind his Minotawr mask, Elliott Heath has just released the new album Metropolitan.
Previous musical excursions have been both challenging, intriguing, exciting and sometimes almost mainstream and commercial in nature. The rule of thumb is to expect the unexpected, it's the one consistent theme throughout his musical explorations.
Elliott is not seeking great acclaim, rather just developing his own ideas and looking for new boundaries to cross.
With the new album 'Metropolitan' the eight songs are concise, the creative ideas are there in abundance, however there is a sense of order, ensuring each song stands out as an individual work, increasing the sense of variety.
The reality that this is assessable, and even compulsive listening at times, is perhaps why the only quote from Elliott was "I'm not even that keen on it really".. BANDCAMP.
It's very difficult to pick just one song from the new 'Metropolitan' album that can be described as typical or representative such are the twists and turns Elliott Heath takes with his music. 'Foaming Floor' is one of my favourites and it's for that reason alone I share it. It is because Elliott tests musical boundaries without any sense of self indulgence, rather with a "well why not?" attitude that I find myself drawn back to his material time and again. Different? Yes, Challenging? Sometimes, Refreshingly Different? Consistently!

The By Gods - Modern Whale
The By Gods - Wait Up.
Background - Nashville’s awesome garage rock trio The By Gods announced their US tour w/ fellow garage rockers Pat Chow (Australia), along with sharing a new music video for their single “Wait Up” that stars their two dogs, Dookie and Wheezy.
The two bands also teamed up on a split tour-exclusive 7” called No Strings/Try So Hard, which includes a new song from The By Gods that isn’t available anywhere else. The By Gods' sound harkens back to everything you ever loved about your favorite grungey 90’s era indie rock bands… brimming with nostalgia but never feeling forced, the band is touring on the heels of their 2017 album Move On.
Produced, mixed and engineered by Alex Newport (Deathcab For Cutie, At The Drive-In, Bloc Party), the album is the sound of a band trying to come to terms with their own ever-changing and strange reality, pushing themselves out of their comfort zone to finally sculpt their own hard-won identity. WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.
Upcoming Tour Dates
3/22 Nashville, TN @ Radio Cafe
3/23 Bowling Green, KY @ Tidball's
3/25 St Louis, MO @ The Sinkhole
3/26 Chicago, IL @ Emporium
3/27 Newport, KY @ Southgate House
3/29 Columbus, OH @ Ruby Tuesday
3/31 Philadelphia, PA @ Creep Records
4/01 Brooklyn, NY @ Alphaville
4/04 Asheville, NC @ Fleetwoods*
4/05 Atlanta, GA @ Starbar*
4/07 Nashville, TN @ The East Room*
*Pat Chow not appearing.
It was back in the summer of 2016 that The By Gods first appeared on our radar and so the new music video for 'Wait Up' makes for a welcome return for the band. A slower paced but nonetheless grungy sort of rock & roll piece, when the band up the power they do so with raw energy. So if a couple of cute dogs isn't enough for you, this sub three minute rocker should complete the circle.

Modern Whale - The Dirt.
Background - Brooklyn trio Modern Whale (the brainchild of musician Rob Guariglia) have dropped a new single ("The Dirt") and music video.
Naturally reminiscent of cult television program The Twilight Zone, the video was produced, directed and performed by Raviv Ullman (as seen on HBO, CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, MTV, and Disney’s ‘Phil of the Future’) and Martin Spanjers (Grey’s Anatomy, 8 Simple Rules). Maneuvering through New York’s finest visual trappings, the video also stars John Beach.
A “Modern Whale" is not a specimen of the sea but rather a musical crossing. If we are to think about band names as part of an overall expression then this name is enormous. So enormous, so amorphous, that your new favorite group might not fall into your standard “musical genre."
Too pop for indie, too indie for pop, Modern Whale has been Vevo’s ‘Featured Artist’ for each of their four releases on YouTube, with their single “Burn Like the Sun” being a favorite on Hype Machine.
Helmed by Rob Guariglia, the outfit formed in Brooklyn at the infamous rock refuge Meserole Sound Studio (also known as Rob’s home base). Living in Bushwick, ‘90s rock finds salvation and rebirth in Modern Whale. The name then reflects the animalistic tendency of music and is encapsulated through Rob’s dog Stella, his assistant and muse. WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.
Described as "Too pop for indie, too indie for pop" Modern Whale have that little rock something that makes sense of that statement. The video for 'The Dirt' is fascinating and just a little paranoid, the songs energy and musical armoury of hooks ensures they make fine companions, this is classy material.

Polychrome - Someone - Spritzer
Polychrome - Final Kiss.
Background - East-London-based Polychrome, who channel the spirit of Cocteau Twins with the electronic ecstasy of M83, are made up of Oliver of The Bronze Medallists and Victoria of Victoria and Jacob. Victoria and Jacob have been championed by the likes of NME, Time Out, The Line of Best Fit, Uncut and DIY to name a few, and have also supported The Mystery Jets, Com Truise, Daughter, and Katy B. Oliver, frontman of indie electronica band Bronze Medallists (also solo performer/activist Olly the Octopus AKA ‘Boris Johnson’s Nemesis’ – City AM), has worked with the likes of Lucy Rose, Mt Wolf, L.A. Salami, and been supported by Radio 1, Radio X, Radio 2, and 6music to name a few.
Polychrome now release lead-single 'Final Kiss' off the upcoming self-titled debut album ‘Polychrome’, which opens with crisp production that features floating vocal samples on flowing synthesiser, making for a deep estuary of thick chromatic chords. Victoria’s silky, reverberating lyricism pours through the verses, and rock-pool crevices are filled with intertwining bubbly synthesisers. Single artwork by Print Designer Lisa King whose work has appeared in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and W Magazine, and has collaborated with Kylie Minogue
Victoria studied Creative Music Tech in Cambridge and has contributed a large amount of the production on the album; she feels there is still a massive fight for women in the industry and wants them to get into production and songwriting in the typically male-dominated industry. Victoria considers production during the songwriting process, visualising which effects, samples, and techniques might be used.
Much of the Polychrome album was written in isolation at Grianian Eco Lodge in Scotland – close to Oliver’s hometown. The band took some time out to focus here. Inspired by the incredible landscape and isolation, the duo feel their sonic soundscapes are massively influenced by the Highland views, rivers and incredible mountains.
‘Final Kiss was one of my favourites to work on as I directed the production. I really wanted a vintage sound, and managed to pick up a harmonica mic that I found in a bargain bin. I’ve got a Juni 106 keyboard and a 107 drum-machine keyboard at home that I also recorded to gain the backbone for this track. I’m big on female production and songwriting and seeing how male-led the industry is drives me harder. Olly is always happy to let me take the driving seat as he trusts my style and skill.’ - Victoria. FACEBOOK.
'Final Kiss' opens with some beautifully layered synths that develop into a flowing arrangement with some catchy musical elements that complement the smooth, gentle and notable vocals. It's a little retro in feel, the production however is gorgeously distinct, whatever influences Polychrome might be channelling, they are doing so with significant style.

Someone - Chain Reaction.
Background - Amsterdam psych-pop artist Someone releases her debut EP Chain Reaction, and unveils 1920s silent-movie inspired video for the single of the same name. The former cutesy singer-songwriter shakes off her previous self to explore the rockier depths of pop composition and discover the power of absolute freedom on her debut EP, Chain Reaction.
First single The Deep had a warm, brooding groove, Say Something brought the fuzz, and third cut Forget Forgive ushered in a more delicate, contemplative and personal side to Someone’s sophisticated songwriting. Final single Chain Reaction is a an infectious indie-rock shuffle, accompanied on release by a short film aping the silent movies of the 1920s. It’s been 4 years since the release of (Songs from) The Sandbox, Jackson’s debut album which bagged an impressive number of plays on the Dutch airwaves, and multiple television features, plus syncs for American commercials and series (such as the acclaimed New Girl).
However, set with the task of writing album number two, the TRJ river was running dry. She discovered that the teenager responsible for the poppy happy-go-lucky tunes of her debut album had been replaced by someone older, someone wiser, and (dare she say?) someone a whole lot more interesting. After three years’ working as a composer for TV and feature film, Jackson’s skillset as a writer and producer was broadening, along with her musical tastes (and dusty synthesizer collection).
Hence the regeneration. “I wanted a name that meant: Don’t worry about who I am. Just check out what I make. I make a lot. Some you may like, some you may not. But I’ll like it. And you know what, I’m someone too.” Though the ear-wormy pop sentiment of TRJ still trickles through the veins of the new tracks, the rest of the music is a far cry from the Sandbox. Enhanced by Jackson’s own abstract artworks and live visuals, Someone is like a trip inside her chaotic, over-productive (but colourful) mind. FACEBOOK, TWITTER.
The video is a piece of art in it's own right, thankfully 'Chain Reaction' is one very fine song and the two go together wonderfully. After the classic introduction we have a feisty psych pop track that is just so addictive, with it's slightly understated arrangement and dreamy vocals the detail for each element is thoughtful and as I say, addictive.

Spritzer - Little Mystery.
Background - Spritzer is the project of Matthew Meade, founder of Brooklyn chamber-pop band Friend Roulette.
Though the band features a rotating cast of players, its core members include Ryan Weiner (Tiny Hazard), James Preston (Maybird, Sam Kogan), and Kyle Olson (also of Friend Roulette.) They will release their debut LP, Love. Lies. Decay., on April 27th via Paper Garden Records.
The upcoming release draws influence from a wide array of genres, from indie rock and guitar pop to Americana and bossa nova. Its eight tracks showcase Spritzer's diverse and experimental sound, but the album opens with their most upbeat and pop-leaning song to date: "Little Mystery." Described by Meade as a "fun and shamelessly cheesy love song.”
Spritzer will celebrate the release of Love. Lies. Decay. with a show at Brooklyn's Elsewhere on April 25th. FACEBOOK.
Paper Garden Records have a track record for delivering superb artists material and 'Little Mystery' from Spritzer only endorses that opinion further. Brisk, energised and melodic, the chamber pop band have a very catchy (as in hooks galore) track, that suggests the debut album is going to be, more than worthy of inspection in April.

FACEBOOK.
