Gillian Stone - Robinson Kirby - The Catenary Wires - The Highway Women - Ashley Monroe

Gillian Stone - Shelf.

Gillian Stone is a Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist whose work has been described as “a mix of Black Mountain, PJ Harvey and Weyes Blood” (PhotogMusic). Her songwriting draws from post-rock, art-rock, folk, minimalism, and ambience. Born and raised on Vancouver Island with Icelandic heritage, Stone channels the influence of outer landscapes in her inner lyrical worlds and soundscapes. Her music is often the product of processing her darkest emotions, particularly those related to shame, depression, addiction, self-doubt, and loss. She juxtaposes these themes with textures that range from tender to explosive in order to produce a singular sonic environment.

Stone’s debut release, “Bridges,” was described as “a dark and beautiful song; a song of many textures” (Monolith Cocktail) and “achingly vulnerable” (The Joy of Violent Movement). Her new single, “Shelf,” co-produced with experimental cellist Michael Peter Olsen (Arcade Fire, Haim, The Hidden Cameras), is a droning lullaby that explores feelings of alienation and dissociation after a trauma. The video for “Shelf” is Stone’s directorial debut, filmed in collaboration with Toronto filmmaker John M. Hall.

Stone holds a BFA in Jazz Studies from Vancouver Island University and an MA in Ethnomusicology from the University of Toronto. Her vocals and playing have been featured on projects by Alli Sunshine (FORCES), The Fern Tips (Beams, Ace of Wands), Völur (Blood Ceremony), and Althea Thauberger. She has performed in several notable festivals, including NXNE, Canadian Music Week, Open Ears Festival, In the Soil Arts Festival, and the Victoria International Jazz Festival.

Robinson Kirby - Find a Way.

Breezy Canadian folk-rock duo Robinson Kirby are off to “Find A Way” when it comes to lost affections in this, their heartwarming love-quest of a new single and video. Freshly pressed from their 2021 seven-track album offering, Little Dreams, the rhythm section of “Find A Way” instills a sense of beautiful calm, reminiscent of a gentle stream while the satiny vocal tones send the listener floating through the song with a feeling of warming assurance.

The song features a graceful, echoey twang of the electric guitar, and its solo, along with the slide of the lap steel, tie the instrumentation together seamlessly. These elements combined create a serene audible flow that contrasts the turbulence surrounding the song’s theme based on the uncertainty of lasting love. Love may be blind, but we can always find our way through. These sentiments are suggested by the lyrics: ‘I don’t look at you the same, since we played the losing game, but I will try and find my way.’

With that in mind, “Find A Way” is a song about revelation, and what we uncover both about ourselves as well as our loved ones during times of uncertainty amidst emotional strife. The overall message is relatable, as those who have felt love dwindle in the past have oftentimes found themselves questioning who they are, what they could’ve done differently and, perhaps, making peace with the circumstance by accepting that their counterparts' hearts may no longer be aligned with mutual perception of love.

‘Lay me down beside what happened here, wasn’t my love bigger than your fear,’ brings about the suggestion that it may come time for one to accept that, despite their best efforts, the love given may not always be the saving grace we’d like it to be. When it comes to the single, as well as the Toronto-based band’s Little Dreams EP, Robinson Kirby describes the songs therein by saying, “They reflect a time of growth and change in our lives. Conceptually, the songs are about love, searching for connection, and finding your place in the world.”

The Little Dreams EP, which hosts the lead single, was written between studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and while living in Los Angeles. They cite their musical influence as being the spirit of singer-songwriters from the genre’s heyday in the 70s, but with a fresh, modern approach. Robinson Kirby consists of lead singer-songwriters, Luke Robinson (vocals, guitar, percussion) and Madelyn Kirby (vocal, guitar), as well as Jonathan Elyashiv (bass) and Ross Hodgkinson (drums, percussion). “Find A Way” is backed by the talents of Paul Phelan (lap steel) and Harrison Lenz (backing vocals).

The Catenary Wires - The Overview Effect.

The new single "The Overview Effect" off the upcoming Catenary Wires album 'Birling Gap' has been released. I would try to string together some sentences to help sell this track/album/band, but I mean it's Rob & Amelia of Heavenly / Talulah Gosh / Swansea Sound / the list goes on. This single, this album, this band is pretty much indiepop essential listening. Indie pop comes of age.

The Catenary Wires feature Amelia Fletcher and Rob Pursey, once of Heavenly and Talulah Gosh. These early bands, once denigrated for being ‘fey’ or ’twee’: the wrong kind of female, have been re-evaluated in recent years. Their songs, apparently sweet and fizzy, were always smarter and darker than they seemed, while the band were radically independent, and an influential part of the movement that became riot grrrl.

In the Catenary Wires, Amelia and Rob are still in love with making pop songs with complex messages. This, their third, album is full of melody, and rich with backing vocal harmonies – but now the tunes are vehicles for startlingly honest adult concerns: the fractured relationships, anxieties, passions and politics of people who live on an island that’s turning in on itself. The Catenary Wires know that pop music is just as good at conveying dark, difficult emotions as it is at celebrating teenage love. The Go-Betweens and XTC proved that, and this record has comparable ambitions.

Birling Gap is a significant place. On the South Coast of England, it’s where steep chalk cliffs resist the rough seas of the English Channel. It’s where iconic images of England are created and re-created. A landscape beloved of patriots – the sturdy white cliffs standing proud and strong against the waves. It’s also a place where people, despondent and doomed, have thrown themselves off the cliffs. It’s where The Cure shot the Just Like Heaven video. It’s where romantic lovers go for passionate storm-tossed assignations. It’s where Shakespeare sent King Lear, blind and abandoned, hell-bent on self-destruction.

The Highway Women - Dead Man Walking.

Female country supergroup the Highway Women have released the music video for their song "Dead Man Walking." A ginger, a brunette and a couple of blondes walk into a dilapidated backwoods barn. They just rolled up to the scene in a black Camaro, prepared to wreak vengeance upon an all-too-cliche cheater. With no signs of remorse, the Highway Women break away from their goody-two-shoes persona to ensure this unfaithful lover gets his just desserts.

Just like the single, the “Dead Man Walking” music video projects serious attitude, showcasing a previously unseen, rebellious, headstrong side of the band. Armed with a container of gasoline and flaming matches, Drew, Kristen, Jess and Bailey came dressed to kill. Their symbolically dark attire tells listeners that they mean business.

If the fuel dripping from the man's face didn’t make his gruesome fate clear enough, the video’s final scene certainly eliminates any doubt. It follows the Highway Women as they strut away from the building, which has been completely engulfed by flames. As this performance proves, these ladies have the capacity to set the country music world afire in much the same way. The track features rocker Erin Coburn (Guitar). Erin is a member of The Be a Highway Woman Collaborative launched by The Highway Women in 2020.

Ashley Monroe - Groove.

The GRAMMY-nominated Nashville star Ashley Monroe released the official video for "Groove," the third song to be taken from her fifth studio album Rosegold out April 30 via Mountainrose Sparrow/Thirty Tigers. The new song follows the release of "'Til It Breaks" and "Drive."

"This one is the one I could listen to over and over," explains Monroe. "When Aaron Raitiere, Mikey Reaves and I wrote this, we knew it was cool. But I was hell bent on getting so many grooves in there that it was almost like a duet with me and the instruments. I had Chris Powell, Brian Allen and Zach Casebolt come in to give it so much groove, that no one could resist moving when they heard it. They slayed! I wrote this to all who like how they groove, and a tad to Nashville in the second verse. It is the 'don’t act like you don’t see me vibes.'"

Last month, Monroe spoke with Garden & Gun about the forthcoming album who said, "Monroe’s vocals shine through powerful harmonies, soaring choruses, and lyrics that blend vulnerability with vivid imagery and wordplay." Rosegold’s first single "Drive" was covered by Pitchfork, People, Stereogum, and Rolling Stone, who said, "The album’s lead single 'Drive' picks up where Sparrow left off and goes further, highlighting Monroe’s genre-hopping balladry with a trip-hop breakbeat, breathy falsetto, and murky electric guitar."

Written and recorded over the past two years, Rosegold finds Monroe pushing her sound in bold new directions, layering lush vocal harmonies atop dreamy, synthesized soundscapes and sensual, intoxicating beats. Rather than make demos of songs that appear on Rosegold, Monroe tracked and co-produced the album a-song-at-a-time, bringing ideas into writing sessions and inviting her collaborators — Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift, Lady A), Mikey Reaves (Maren Morris, Needtobreathe), Jake Mitchell (Ashley McBryde, Luke Bryan), Jordan Reynolds (Maddie & Tae, Dan + Shay), Ben West (Maddie & Tae, Lady A), and longtime producer/co-writer Tyler Cain (who co-wrote "Has Anybody Ever Told You" with Ashley) — to help build and produce full tracks in the studio. The record was mixed by engineer Gena Johnson (John Prine, Jason Isbell), who worked with Monroe to help make the disparate styles and production on the album cohere into a powerful, moving work.

ViVA Trio - Dawn-Song - Big Little Lions - Vinok - The Lagoons - Moli

ViVA Trio
- Siren Song.

Award-winning and Internationally acclaimed Canadian female vocal group ViVA Trio are set to summon audiences out to sea with this, their stunning new single, “Siren Song.” The three-piece’s two sopranos Anna Bateman and Katya Tchoubar, along with mezzo-soprano Erin Fisher, discovered a rare silver lining in the interruption of their international touring schedule due to COVID-19; the newly-freed up time meant they could create some new musical masterpieces to follow their breakthrough debut, Nothing Else Matters.

Telling the ancient sailor’s tale of the ‘Siren’s’ hypnotic voice and powerful lure, “Siren Song” instantly surrounds, haunting and hypnotizing from start to finish between its electronic mixing and multi-layered vocal mastery. “Anna naturally has the highest voice in the group,” Tchoubar shares and jokes of Bateman’s role as the song’s ‘siren.’ “We usually refer to her as the dolphin of the group!” “She’s not wrong!” Bateman laughs. “My voice is just happy there.”

Featuring the three artist’s signature powerful vocals, “Siren Song” serves as a preview for what’s to come with ViVA Trio — both with this single and their forthcoming sophomore and third release; currently being finessed in tandem, the two albums reveal a new yet familiar sound, style, and story for the Mississauga, Ontario-based group.

“Cinematic, electronic, ethereal, and dramatic are some of the words I would use to describe the sound we are creating for this next push of music,” Fisher shares of “Siren Song,” and beyond. “We’re pouring all of our creativity into these upcoming releases.” Set to feature full storylines, characters, costumes, elaborate makeup, hair and effects for their live shows, album art, and music videos, the theatrical overtones reflect each member’s professional background in opera and stage arts.

“It’s been a while since any of us have done character work on stage,” Tchoubar hints. “We’ll be leaning into our roots, and we look forward to revealing our hybrid show — blending a concert with mics with a staged show featuring a full plot line.”

Dawn-Song - She Has Spoken.

Released physically via Ffynnone Records on the 28th of May, 'For Morgan', the beautiful debut album by Dawn-Song will be available on Limited Edition Vinyl and Compact Disc.

Come with us on an epic journey from Dark to Light, an extraordinary tale of total excess to finding ones inner calm, a musical time-capsule 'For Morgan' is an audio letter from Father to Son. His Elemental Records a pioneering Label was home to Alabama 3, Rocket From The Crypt amounst others.

"I made an album of my songs with some wonderful collaborators over the last couple of years. When I’m gone I wanted to continue to be able to sing for my son Morgan if he needed me. My father published a small book of poetry before he died and if I’m missing him a lot I read a bit of it and I feel reconnected. I also wanted to make something my mother could enjoy. So the record is for Morgan" - Nick Evans AKA Dawn-Song

"When we were young We dreamed of creating a better future We Screamed, We Shouted We Loved, We Lost But We Lived Sometimes Together, Sometime Apart And Now I hear my friend talking from a future to his son I hear my friend imploring the world to do and to be better I hear the same song with a different sound I hear the Byrds, I hear Crass The shoutings gone, replaced with fragility and love I hear dawn Song" - Ffynnone Records

Big Little Lions - We Were Young.

Big Little Lions have been described as ‘a blissful marriage of new folk and sophisticated pop’. Prolific songwriting, infectious folk-pop style, and an offbeat, memorable live show.

This award winning duo consists of Helen Austin and Paul Otten who, despite living thousands of miles apart, have found a way to connect and create music together. Despite being in two different countries, they have found common ground to share their message. Call it destiny, or call it fate, call it a necessary progression for these modern times.

Helen lives in British Columbia, Canada and Paul lives in Cincinnati, OH. But the distance provides the necessity to create in a new way. Using technology as their ally and their differences as their strength.

Their monthly single releases are their way of getting through this pandemic while all the usual album cyle release plans don’t make sense anymore. Their music is jam-packed with emotion and tight harmonies, the sound of two people working side-by-side.

Vinok - River.

VINOK is not just another indie-rock band, it’s a statement of authenticity and social change to create a new culture of justice in a land of unknown. Giving a voice for the marginalized and bluntly bringing to attention crucial problems of a global society is what the band is all about. Their topics range from disability rights to feminism, politics and religion. Vinok’s sound is an unusual mix of experimental rock and indie art-pop spiced with notes of garage punk, pulp grunge and even hip-hop.

The hints of a Wild West atmosphere are to symbolize everything the band stands for - an attempt to build freedom and hope in a harsh opportunistic world by challenging the establishment. VINOK provides fresh, powerful and insightful music with deep syncopated rhythms, haunting lyrics, soaring powerful vocals and a molotov cocktail in the face of evil.

Co-founder, lead vocalist and keyboardist Nathalie has practiced as a mental health professional and expressive arts therapist working extensively with people who witnessed a wide array of abuse and neglect. As a journalist, VINOK’s co-founder and drummer Ilya has witnessed the atrocities executed by authoritarian and corrupt regimes in Eastern Europe and the sheer poverty that resulted from them. The band’s virtuoso bassist Anton comes from war-torn eastern Ukraine and says, “Music is my salvation”.

“river” is the namesake of a masterpiece written by American novelist Flannery O’Connor. Much of the symbolism within the song is in reference to her renowned story “River”. This song is about redemption and all of the pain that comes with it before one is truly set free.

“We have been inspired by much of Flannery O’Connor’s bold, truthful, gothic and often violent writing style,” said Nathalie, the lead vocalist of the band. “For example, our previous EP Wise Blood (hence the name being based on one of O’Connor’s novels) used a lot of similar symbolism”. “For some, river can be seen as a tragedy but for us it is definitely a story of redemption,” said the band’s drummer Ilya.

The Lagoons - Sedated.

From The Lagoons - Our brand new single, "Sedated," is a reminder to enjoy not only the destination but the journey too.

"Sedated" has psychedelic, trippy elements you'll see reflected in our music video.

We wrote and recorded "Sedated" back in 2018, but felt it was darker than what you heard in last year's debut album, Midnight Afternoon.

The Lagoons are the musical project of Southern California-raised multi-instrumentalist brothers Ryan and Joey Selan. The duo writes, records, and produces music out of their home studio in Los Angeles.

Moli - Insomnia.

Falling down the rabbit hole of social media and your own thoughts - a feeling we all know too well.

When the Belgian singer-songwriter Moli was failing to fall asleep in a hostel in London and fell down that rabbit hole, she ended up writing a song about it. With "Insomnia", she deals with feeling stressed out, not being able to sleep and sleep paralysis.

She says: "I wrote Insomnia while I was in London. At the time I was staying in a youth hostel. Always a bit of a hit and miss. I was very used to it as I nearly always stayed in hostels on writing trips and had had some great experiences but some not so great. This one particular night, I had been assigned a shared dorm on the ground floor and my bed was on the top bunk situated right next to the window where this one bright light shined directly onto my bed in my face. It was summer, the room was super hot so we also needed to keep the window open and people were being super noizy outside, I couldn't sleep at all.

I was lying there tossing and turning all night and anxiety creped up on me. I spent a while on my phone going through the news and social media and that stressed me out even more. I went down a rabbit hole of thoughts about life, had a little existential crisis. I was in the studio the next few days and felt inspired by that experience among other sleepless nights and the nights where I have sleep paralysis to write Insomnia." "Insomnia" is part of Moli's recently released mini-album, Préface.

Giulia - André Ethier - New Candys - T. Hardy Morris - Ida Mae

Giulia - Lucky Ones.

Versatile, intuitive, and multi-dimensional. Those are just a few words to define the genre-bending musician Giulia., who infuses jazz-influenced arrangements, unusual rhythmic phrasings, and understated spoken word into her dreamy indie-folk melodies.

Born and raised in Toronto, one of the most multicultural cities in the world, Giulia. was surrounded by a world of art from a young age. The moniker Giulia. (with a g and a period) comes from the Italian spelling of Julia she’d always wanted. Her parents “Americanized” their names in their youth when having a foreign-sounding name was frowned upon.

Years later, they gave both her siblings names with the traditional Italian spelling. Giulia. says, “I remember growing up, I was very dramatic about the fact that I was the only one who didn’t have an Italian name and always envied the uniqueness of their names.” Set to release her first song at 19, she needed an artist name immediately.

She says, “The little 9-year-old girl inside of me begged me to make her proud. I had been waiting for an alter-ego my whole life so I could name her Giulia., and now I was finally going to have one.” She added the period to make her feel extra special – like the name didn’t need anything else, just Giulia. Period.

André Ethier - Nature Compels Me.

André Ethier is set to release his new album, Further Up Island on May 28, 2021, via the beloved Toronto label, Telephone Explosion (Polaris long/shortlisted acts inc. Badge Époque Ensemble, Bernice, Pantayo). We’re now releasing the new single “Nature Compels Me.”

We announced the new record, Further Up Island last month earning support at GoldFlakePaint, Brooklyn Vegan, Exclaim and more – this comes as the final piece in a trilogy of Sandro Perri-produced solo records from Ethier with this specific track featuring the sax of Joseph Shabason (prev. tips from Pitchfork, NPR and Aquarium Drunkard). The first album (Under Grape Leaves) was very much about building a home, the second one (Croak in the Weeds) was about living in it and this new one, Further Up Island is about leaving it and exploring, packed with plenty of Ethier's tongue-in-cheek humour akin to Randy Newman, Bonnie “Prince” Billy and that ilk of songwriter.

André initially grew as a musician as part of the 90's/00's Toronto band, the Deadly Snakes at one point earning Ethier singing duties at the Dodger's stadium singing the Canadian national anthem (he shared a name with a Dodger's legend). Since those days, Ethier shifted his attention to this intricate, dreamy folk music as well as developing a notable career as a painter with his artwork here adorning the cover of the new album and also placements in galleries across Canada (Toronto & Montréal), the US (Derek Eller in NY & Honor Fraser in LA) and Italy (Torino).

New Candys - Begin Again.

New Candys have recently announced the release of their new album 'Vyvyd', out on 4th June via Little Cloud Records/Dischi Sotterranei/Fuzz Club.

Following the release of album opener 'Twin Mime' last month, the band have shared new track 'Begin Again'. "It’s the closest thing to a love song that’s on this record", they explain, "It’s about how we sometimes think about an ended relationship, and the only thing that’s left is just the memory of it. The bass line came first, then the chords and vocal melody. It is the first time that we used a drum machine instead of the traditional drum kit".

The single is accompanied by a video, directed by Ivana Smudja. She says: “Begin Again is the story of Lea and Mel Stevens, two twin sisters who exchange personalities from time to time. Whenever they secretly encounter, one of the two is set free, free from ordinary life, until they meet again. The video was filmed in Groesbeek (The Netherlands), during one of the coldest months of the year and during lockdown. We were not allowed to gather with more than two people outside and the woods were the safest place where to hide and film (keeping distance and wearing our masks, of course)”.

Known for their relentless touring schedule and DIY work ethic, New Candys are one of the most solid independent bands of recent years. ‘Vyvyd’ follows up on the widely acclaimed third album ‘Bleeding Magenta’, which saw them tour non-stop across Europe, UK, North America and Australia.

Recorded at Fox Studio in Venice, Italy by Andrea Volpato and mixed and mastered by Grammy Award producers Tommaso Colliva (The Jesus And Mary Chain) and Giovanni Versari respectively, 'Vyvyd' is the first record made by the new line-up of Fernando Nuti, Andrea Volpato, Alessandro Boschiero and Dario Lucchesi. It will be available through Little Cloud Records and Dischi Sotterranei, plus an exclusive vinyl edition via Fuzz Club.

“I’ve started to sketch some songs for the record during a very tumultuous period for the band, with many line-up changes between the end of 2017 until mid-2018, but as soon as the new line-up formed, the excitement to create new music together was overwhelming and helped the creative process immensely,” says frontman Fernando Nuti.

T. Hardy Morris - The Digital Age of Rome.

T. Hardy Morris is set to return with The Digital Age of Rome on June 25th via the New West Records imprint Normaltown Records. The 10-song set was produced by Adam Landry (Deer Tick, Rayland Baxter) and mixed by engineer Nate Nelson. It follows the Diamond Rugs and Dead Confederate member’s 2018 acclaimed Dude, The Obscure, which Pitchfork said "may be Morris' best record; it's certainly his most complex and compelling statement" and "it's sharp focus is refreshing," while AllMusic said, “Morris takes his ambitions skyward, infusing a joyous psychedelia into the mix…”

After touring Dude, The Obscure, Morris had 13 new songs demoed for a new album. He was excited to get his band together to rehearse the songs before hunkering down in the studio to record...then the pandemic hit. Sequestered at his Athens, GA home with his family, Morris, like most everyone else in the past year, mulled over what was truly important to him and in response, crafted an entirely new set of songs. Enlisting a group of musicians including Drive-By Truckers drummer Brad Morgan, singer-songwriter Faye Webster and many others, Morris pulled no punches with his mesmerizing lyrics and hazy brand of southern glam rock.

Looking directly inward and captivated by the sobering realities of the pandemic, Morris has composed one of his most personal works yet. He tackles the well-worn anxieties of the past year as pandemic and political divisions ravaged America. The Digital Age of Rome is more direct than Morris has ever been and is one of his boldest records yet. Unapologetic and brutally honest, it is a necessary diary for an uncomfortable time that continues to unfold.

Ida Mae - Road To Avalon.

Today, the Nashville-via-London duo Ida Mae shared their new song “Road to Avalon”, the opening track from their upcoming sophomore album Click Click Domino. “We wanted this song and production to be a cinematic, slow pan across a vignette of the towns and cities we’ve travelled through that felt lost and forgotten,” writes Ida Mae.

“Clashing a 1900s American gut string ukulele banjo with modern synthesizers, casio keyboards, thumb piano and Beatles-esque Mellotron organ was intentional to try and create a kind of sparse transatlantic dreamstate. We chose Avalon because it's rich in Celtic mythology, an earthly paradise in the western skies, a pretty grandiose metaphor for searching or escaping to a place or situation that's better than where you are.” Click Click Domino will be released on July 16th, through Thirty Tigers.

The song follows the release of lead single “Click Click Domino” which was featured in Rolling Stone who writes, “With guitar assistance from shred wizard Marcus King, the tune is a heaving mass of scuzzy blues-rock riffs and thunderous drums that indicts social media for its isolating, alienating effects… Somewhere, Jack White is busy looking for new amp settings.

Shay Martin Lovette - Mashup & Cozy Condition - Jason Pilling - Yoo Doo Right

Shay Martin Lovette - Upstate.

Wayfaring songwriter Shay Martin Lovette’s story is shaped by an enduring creative pursuit, an inseparable connection with the natural world, and a deep appreciation for the nonpareil musical voices of the past. After releasing his debut in 2018, receiving a plethora of regional accolades, and spending over 100 days playing shows to eager audiences,  he’s back with his sophomore effort.

The new 12-song collection, Scatter and Gather, was produced by Joseph Terrell of North Carolina’s cherished indie roots outfit Mipso (Rounder Records), and features members of the band throughout.

Lovette’s songs deliver evocative imagery that invites the listener along on one’s life journey, full of incidents, escapades, and moments of clarity. From a canyon to a “cold casino rooftop,” and various locales around the Blue Ridge Mountains in western North Carolina, where Lovette is based, The backdrops are ever-changing but a common thread can always be found in the feelings of his colorful characters.

There’s a “coastal queen” in “Fierce and Delicate Things” (which bears a refrain referencing, a bit mysteriously, “the ones that wear the white jeans”). Then there are the ladies honored by song titles reflecting their names–muses Nandina (“Oh Nandina”) and Rose Marie (“For Rose Marie”), a woman living in a coastal town whose “knees fear the winter” and whose mind “runs an ancient race.” There’s also Ricky, a tip of the hat to Lovette’s father, who is noted for his ability to make a harmony shine in “Parkway Bound.” And those are just the folks mentioned over the course of the first third or so of Scatter.

Mashup & Cozy Condition - Fly Wizard Fly.

Hailing from Richmond Virginia, Mashup & Cozy Condition is an electrifying eight-piece ensemble that melds vintage funk, with with modern production techniques. With a totally unquie sound that occupies the space between modern funk of Vulfpeck and off the wall experimentation of the Beastie Boys. Acclaimed band features frontman / lead songwriter Michael Hedrick’s edgy vocals over an effortlessly deep pocket and energetic melodies from the three-piece Cozy Condition Horns.

Mashup & Cozy Condition make the kind of dirty, brass-scorched funk / soul / rock which leads you into temptation. The dark side of the boys from RVA features, Jason Newcomb master of all six strings and production knobs, the world class “Cozy Condition” horn section is lead by saxophonist extraordinaire Rick Rieger. So successful are they, so good it feels, so natural, that voodoo filth will be pouring through you before you know what’s going on.

MCC’s have had solid success in 2020 with 1M total streams and an addition to the sought after “Nu-Funk” Spotify playlist. Three singles from MCC’s upcoming full length release will drop in 2021, the band plans to return to the road and release a live video / EP.

Jason Pilling - Bridges.

I don’t do love songs. I do real life.

My niche as an artist is that I’ve also lived the path of a “normal” life. I paid off a mortgage, and then I quit my job to do this.

I’m quirky/interesting…but there is no myth of Jason the artist to sell. I’m well educated and well read to have perspective from outside the artist bubble.

My music is like a conversation with your thoughtful friend. Sometimes we talk about ourselves or other people, sometimes we talk about politics, and sometimes we just shoot the crap.

Yoo Doo Right - Presto Presto, Bella's Dream.

Montreal-based post-rock trio, Yoo Doo Right have their debut album, Don't Think You Can Escape Your Purpose out via Mothland on May 21, 2021 and are today sharing their new single, “Presto, Presto, Bella’s Dream.”

We announced the debut album last month with the album-titled single, earning some tips at FLOOD, NPR and Under The Radar Magazine with the band selling out all of their limited edition vinyl in under 24 hours. This debut record follows previous releases which have found the trio collaborating with members of Braids, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Acid Mothers Temple who they put out a split 7" with last year titled "The Moral Compass of a Self-Driving Car" (they have quite a way with song titles).

This forthcoming eight-track album release was put together with names behind Thee Silver Mt. Zion, Panopticon Eyelids and Wolf Parade, recorded at the legendary Hotel2Tango which further cements YDR's place within that exciting Quebec scene alongside Godspeed You!, Jerusalem In My Heart, Ought, etc. Previously YDR – who find their name from a track on Can's debut album – have performed at Austin's Levitation Festival, M For Montreal and Sled Island, as well as opening for the likes of A Place to Bury Strangers, DIIV, Kikagaku Moyo, FRIGS, and more.
