Braids have just shared a video for 'Snow Angel'. Last November we said of Braids "the indie art rock band manage to achieve everything that genre bundle suggest, doing so fabulously" this new song proves that was no one off event. === Juniper Bush have released a video for 'Turn' where the Winnipeg band deliver a mixture of restrained shoegaze and psych rock with melodic grooves. === Lavinia Blackwall shares 'John's Gone' ahead of her debut album due in May, the song is a vibrant, catchy modern folk song. === Duo Forces have been around for twenty years and 'Say It Now' demonstrates how well their musicianship and song writing has developed, with this energised pop/rock track. === Mardi Lumsden has a brand new album out entitled 'Hiatus' and it's a gorgeous collection of songs from this very talented Brisbane, Australia folk artist. === This is the third song we have had the pleasure of featuring this year from Kluster B and with 'Graveyard' the bands ability to mix genres and styles in just one song is both fabulous and notable.

Braids - Snow Angel.
Montreal-based indie trio Braids have announced their decision to push the release of their new album Shadow Offering to June 19th due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the meantime, however, they will continue to release new songs in the coming weeks. Today, they shared their new video for single "Snow Angel," a powerful opus that features singer Raphaelle Standell-Preston's most visceral performance to date as she leans passionately into her anger, diving deeper into frustrations and anxieties about her internal and external worlds.
Of the track, Braids said: "'Snow Angel' was written in the immediate wake of the 2016 US election, as our collective conscience took a sharp inhale. It's a diary entry of sorts - a snapshot of the mind grappling with our era's endless barrage of content and destruction, continents away and close to home. *This* moment, with our world in the midst of a pandemic, is admittedly a new context. But I can't help but sense the song speaks to feelings many of us are experiencing - uncertainty, angst, and a desperate desire to make sense of it all.
"For me, it was deeply therapeutic to write and sing this song; saying things out loud can help us to not feel so alone, can help validate our natural fears about the future of our world, and can bring to light some of the hard questions that many of us are asking ourselves. I believe that art can change our relationship to fear. We hope this song can offer you a moment of catharsis and relief, in the same way writing and performing it has for us."
"Snow Angel" first debuted on The FADER who stated "Producer Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie) lets the band breathe throughout the epic track, letting the energy ebb and flow as Raphaelle Standell-Preston switches her vocals between singing and spoken-word. The whole thing builds to a frantic final third in which the chaos and confusion is palpable."
Releasing through Secret City Records, Shadow Offering finds the band at their most personal, unabashedly flexing a new sense of confidence through songs that reach a higher level of artistry and collaboration. A luscious and expansive release, it leads us through a sonic tapestry of narrative. With heartbreaking honesty and precision, listeners traverse a nuanced and complicated world: one full of beautiful contradiction. Although the album directs itself at the failures of people to love and be loved, it also seeks to restore justice and attain blissful union. It's arc crests through the dark towards the light and learns how to dance with the dizzying rhythms of the heart. The songs bubble, sustain, dissolve, expand, and retract.

Juniper Bush - Turn.
In their latest video for “Turn,” Winnipeg psych-rock/shoegaze four-piece Juniper Bush explore the fantasy of unrequited love through a dance. The tune appears on the band’s debut full-length record, Healing Through A Sonic Figure, which arrives next week on April 3 via Transistor 66. Reverb-smeared chords and Lizzy Burt’s angelic vocals evoke the emptiness of floating adrift through space, and the impending sorrow of a lust disguised as love.
As Burt explains, “The song’s lyrics express the fantasy of a better life with the object of one’s affection, the inner turmoil and intensity of a one-sided romance, and how patterns repeat despite life’s lessons.” In the video, a wedding dress is used to represent outgrown notions of love and tradition. As the video progresses, a figure dances with a plastic bag, while a chair remains distanced from the figure. The chair is used to represent inner wisdom and truth, and the space between fantasy and reality.
“It’s sort of a dance of self-deception and struggle to maintain a sense of self,” says Burt, who appears in and directs the video. “I appear curled up naked in the chair for a mere moment near the end of the video to signify growth and a new sense of truth and awareness from the experience.”
Comprised of Lizzy Burt (Basic Nature), Adrian Schroeder (Black Cloud), and Danny Hacking and Kyle Loewen (Holy Void and Surprise Party), Juniper Bush has been called a Winnipeg supergroup, merging the snarling psychedelia of The Black Angels, penetrative shoegaze of My Bloody Valentine (circa 1988), and the otherworldly alt-rock of The Cranberries into a concoction that’s both abrasive and sweet. Juniper Bush's upcoming Western Canadian tour is now cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. The band will announce rescheduled dates in the coming months.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lavinia Blackwall - John's Gone.
Lavinia Blackwall is already a well-known name in many circles. Her work with prolific Glaswegian psych-folk outfit Trembling Bells having earnt her a reputation as one of the best voices in the scene, many critics having likened her singing prowess to that of Sandy Denny. Along with Trembling Bells she has released seven full-length albums and performed as the backing band to folk legends Bonnie Prince Billy and The Incredible String Band’s Mike Herron. Now she is striking out on her own with the release of her debut solo album Muggington Lane End which is out on May 1st.
Recorded live, the album is a mixture of wistful longing, joyful exuberance, wheeling psychedelia and classic songwriting. Listening to it, you wouldn’t believe that many of the vocals on the record were recorded in one take, though that’s the kind of faultless performance the classically trained soprano has become known for. Muggington Lane End began its journey back in 2018, with two tracks (Waiting For Tomorrow and All Seems Better) being recorded with former bandmates Mike Hastings and Simon Shaw. “They were in a previous incarnation of what I thought my solo project would be, called 'Orion's Belt'” explains Blackwall, however when she got together with partner and collaborator Marco Rea the project started to shift. “I realised I could get a fresh band together, seeing as Mike and Simon were very busy with their own projects”. Working with a new group of people breathed life into the project and the ‘Orion’s Belt’ moniker was ditched in favour of Lavinia Blackwall, perhaps an indicator that this would become the singer and multi-instrumentalist’s most personal work yet. “I don't think I've ever worked with a group so committed to working on arrangements, timings and feel. I just love it,” she says. “Marco is a fantastic producer, who pushes me to see things through, consider ideas I'd never have thought about and also just gets what I'm trying to do. We work so easily together”. A sentiment that translates audibly on record.
Lead single ‘John’s Gone’ harks back to 60’s style songwriting, telling the tale of an oddball named John in a style reminiscent of Beatle’s classic ‘Maxwell’s Silver Hammer’. Lavinia’s storytelling skills are artfully showcased throughout the record, Muggington Lane End’s most common thread being the notion of dreaming and escapism.
Muggington Lane End may still incorporate elements of Lavinia’s work with Trembling Bells however it also feels like a step towards a more authentic voice from the singer, singing songs from her own perspective. “I love every song, performance and recording and am so proud of the work everyone has put into making it,” she says, and that love really shines through.

Forces - Say It Now.
Hi, we’re Forces. I’m Jess and this [motions to the right] is Dave. Dave and Jess, Jess and Dave. It’s been that way for over 20 years. A time long enough that the lines between life, music and love have become beautifully blurred. We wouldn’t have it any other way. The name ‘Forces’ implies a literal “joining of forces” between Dave and I, each contributing our power into doing the thing we love to do most: making music, together. But, it’s also rooted in our love of joining forces with our musical community, and our passion for creating experiences for our friends to play and perform together.
Forces became a thing in 2017 after we closed the book on a whirlwind decade of recording and touring with our former band, The Golden Dogs. That trip took us all over the world and we had the privilege to support great artists; biggies like Sloan, Feist, Bloc Party, Libertines, Kaiser Chiefs, Thurston Moore and even the late great Roky Erickson (twice!). One thing that still astounds us is the number of amazingly talented people who grew through our band who continue to do great things and are still our dearest friends: members of Zeus, Taylor Knox, Wax Atlantic, and Brave Shores, to name a few. All of these musicians, including Dave and I, cut their rock teeth in the Golden Dogs.
When the band ended, we started exploring in the studio making what we thought would be the next GD record, but deep down we knew that it wasn’t. What we were making was dancier. It was groovier. We were growing new skin, wearing new hats, trying on ideas of all different sizes. It seems fitting the song that inspired us into a new artistic direction is a song about inspiration itself. ‘Step in a Sway’—our second single, but the first we recorded—felt to us like a true departure both in style and attitude. It was our foray into layering tracks with metronomic, percussive loops, as opposed to the traditional power-pop approach of recording we were used to, a bed-track with drums, bass & guitar.
In the studio, we were inspired by different production styles—the big beat and hypnotic grooves of Liquid Liquid and ESG, the thin guitar and funky bass of Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, the alt pop of Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, New Order’s approach to dance pop, and the layered hooks of the Cure. Forces is us embracing pure pop, and it feels right. Our rule is, if a song makes us want to get up and dance, then we’re on the right track.

Mardi Lumsden - Hiatus (Album).
Longstanding Brisbane folk artist Mardi Lumsden has today released her debut album Hiatus, a collection of dreamy folk songs filled with heart, soul and commentary on human nature.
The next step in an already long and illustrious career, Hiatus is an eleven-track delight showcasing Mardi's signature ability to weave heartfelt stories together using banjos, keyboards and electronic drums to create a unique genre of dream folk - a fusion of the ethereal atmospheres and textures creating a mixture of dream pop with acoustic-based folk. Recorded and produced by her husband Andrew Pennay in their converted church-turned home studio, tracks such as 'Juniper Trees', 'Someday' and 'Treasure Like This' are delicate, warm and truly uplifting.
The album's release is punctuated by the focus track 'Fiore', written under the inspiration of an Italian summer and the beauty of letting go of relationships. "It's about releasing your expectations and accepting that endings also mean new beginnings," Mardi explains. Her most recent single, 'Heading Home,' also featured on Double J's Tower of Song with Henry Wagons.
Previous success for Mardi Lumsden has included songs from her EP Wherever you go, there you are being featured on Australian TV shows such as Channel 7's Winners and Losers, ABC's Dance Academy and ABC's Time of Our Lives. Also recorded in a church-turned-recording studio (ARIA-winning producer Magoo's Applewood Studios), 'Classified' from the EP received the Q Song Award in the Folk/Ballad category and was nominated for Song of The Year as well as an Australian Songwriting Association award.

Kluster B - Graveyard.
Kluster B (fka Kluster) are putting out their second album, b, on April 17th. A lot has happened in all the five members lives since the first album, civic (2018). The band was very shattered during the period that the music was written, being far apart from each other both geographically and emotionally, which resulted in turns within the music none of the members could have foreseen. A band crisis emerged, a crisis that was processed in the studio during the recording week, something that has left its clear marks on the record. In the end, the recording of b was an enriching experience for the band, coming out stronger than ever on the other side, with a new name and a new record. There was now nothing left to lose.
The band was founded by four friends and a virtual drummer in Malmö 2014, a real life drummer joined in shortly afterwards and the gang was complete. Since then, the quintet has been active on as well the Malmö indie scene as playing shows in Berlin, Copenhagen, Stockholm, supporting acts such as Frankie Cosmos, Omni and Nicole Sabouné. Debut album 'civic' was released in 2018 and Kluster received praise from Line of Best Fit, BBC Radio 6, major Swedish music magazines and more.
The band returned earlier this year with new singles 'Counterpart' and 'Love Must Conquer', two tracks taken from their upcoming sophomore album that will be released on April 17th via Rama Lama Records. Today, another piece of the puzzle that is Kluster B's second album is released in the form of new single 'Graveyard''.
Graveyard is yet another glimpse of Kluster's playful sound - a melting pot of broad influences such as pop, punk, noise, lo-fi, indie and jazz. Just like its precursors, Graveyard is a development of the sound we got to know on their first album. The interplay and paradox between the complex and simple is still there but the quintet have this time allowed themselves more time and space to experiment with almost jamming parts that creates a larger soundscape hypnotizing the listener.

Julia P. - Walking On By.
It's never too late to start playing the banjo! Julia P. Hersheimer first got noticed in 1991 with her Twin Peaks Forever cassette. Thereafter many albums, EP's and projects followed. She shared the stage with Paul Weller, toured with dEUS and Daryll-Ann, was featured on the internationally acclaimed Eurosonic Noorderslag showcase festival, on famous Dutch festivals like Crossing Border and Lowlands, and on Dutch national TV.
In 2017 Julia P. released the ‘Summer EP’ to international acclaim - four sunny tunes about beaches and waves - and in that same year the ultimate Christmas tune ‘Christmas Is Calling’, which rode high in the alternative Christmas charts.
Julia P. always wanted to play the banjo. It took her 53 (!) years to finally buy one and take lessons.
New single Walking On By is the first banjo recording and it has a definite jingle jangle country/bluegrass vibe, somewhere in between Mumford & Sons and Gillian Welch. It is a song about the longing for long gone times when the sun always seemed to shine and life was peaceful and innocent.

BlackieBlueBird - Goodbye in July (Album).
Copenhagen's dream pop duo BlackieBlueBird return with their second album "Goodbye in July". BlackieBlueBird are the vocalist Heidi Lindahl and the composer Nils Lassen; together they create delicate torch songs of reverb and echo that captivate the listener with resonating guitars, wailing harmonicas, maudlin mandolins and a choir of lonely mermaids that sporadically embraces Heidi's golden voice. The echoes of love and longing, hellos and deceiving goodbyes live within her unique and clear vibrato.
BlackieBlueBird are now back with their second album "Goodbye in July" which leverages the dreamy romanticism but preserves the melancholy of their first work. Lead by the delicate and enchanting voice of Heidi Lindahl "Goodbye in July" comprises 11 songs of desire, love, life, and losses written by the experienced composer Nils Lassen.
The duo received great reviews worldwide for their debut album "Ghost River", where their sound has been compared to Nick Cave's "Murder Ballads" and Enya.
All songs are written and produced by Nils Lassen. The album is a cooperation among T&E Records, Poisonic, and Aenaos Records. "Goodbye in July" will be released on Vinyl, CD, and as a download on 27th of March 2020.

Certain Animals - Love, Space & Time.
New single Love, Space & Time is a loving, psychedelic trip along the earliest childhood memories to the currently found feeling of unity of Certain Animals. Hhinting to Creedence Clearwater Revival, A reverberated intro easily glides into a droning riff which could have been taken from an unused B-side of The Beatles' Rubber Soul or Revolver.
Three-part harmony vocals smoothly narrate the cosmic fortune and innocence of early youth. Tastefully accompanied by a cowbell, the chorus blasts away with an exclamation full of ambition and perseverance, a driving force of the band. Love, Space & Time is a characteristic example of the new Certain Animals: polyphonic and melodic, but always with an edge.
Dutch band Certain Animals serves you melodic rock filled with vocal harmonies. The members aren't afraid to show which records they've been listening to. Musical titans from the '60s and '70s are spinning on their turntable on a daily basis. The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Neil Young, Crosby, Stills & Nash and Electric Light Orchestra are regular companions in their musical life, but also the fuzzy and phasey sounds of contemporary bands like Tame Impala influence the music of Certain Animals.
Without being stuck in the past and with a critical view on the present, the band brings you their intriguing sound which makes for an energetic live show filled with intimate moments and explosive bursts of energy.

Jed - Black Gold Texas Tea (Album).
27th March sees the release of the debut album from Jed called "Black Gold Texas Tea". Jed is Jed Stephens a multi instrumentalist with a passion for electronic music of all kinds, his music is a mix of electro, techno, D&B, house and ambient.
He has been a song writer, producer and performer for many years, previous bands include Bass Bandits and Exchange, he is currently in the North West UK based Synthpop covers band Elektrio.
Jed's musical influences range from Sibelius and Bartok through to the Chemical Brothers and Orbital, via The Beatles, Kraftwerk, New Order, 808 State, Frankie Knuckles, Arthur Baker and Vince Clarke. Those old enough to remember The Beverley Hillbillies will recognise the derivation of the album title!
The music on the debut is modern electronic combining the best of elements of techno with the soundtrack feel of John Carpenter, Vangelis or Jarre. Using the best in modern electronic gear he creates stunning tracks which combine epic sounds with dance rhythms. His live show, complete with laser lighting rig, is stunning, a guaranteed dance fest for anyone who attends.

The Brave Faces - In The Dark.
THE BRAVE FACES, Brighton post-punk/indie band, have released their debut single, ‘In the Dark’, with a video to follow.
Influenced by 80s post-punk, shoegaze and contemporary indie, THE BRAVE FACES push forward bristling melodies and sweeping soundscapes. Wiry, melodic guitars layer driving industrial drums. Their first single, 'In the Dark', features glimmering chords, dreamy synths and palm-muted melodies - providing a stark soundscape for the singer’s cold commentary. The backing singer’s reverberating falsetto adds to the overarching feeling of uneasy catchiness.
“In the Dark explores power within a relationship,” says the band. “They’re delivered from the perspective of someone offering up fumbled clichés as apologies, desperately trying to save face after the latest in a series of breaches of trust.”
‘In the Dark’ is the first of three tracks recorded by THE BRAVE FACES with Dave ‘Izumi’ Lynch (Toploader, Jake Bugg, The Magic Numbers) at Echo Zoo Studios in Eastbourne. THE BRAVE FACES will release their next two tracks, ‘Lots of Nights Out’ and ‘It Takes a While’, throughout 2020, alongside a string of live performances around Brighton and London. ‘In the Dark’ was mastered by sound engineer Pete Maher, who has previously worked with U2, Pixies and Nick Cave.

Bethany Ferrie - Stayed.
Starting from sending voice notes to her friends in her bedroom as a teen, it’s only in the past year that Bethany has started releasing music and gigging wherever she can. With just her and an acoustic guitar, Bethany brings her pop music to life with hints of Fleetwood Mac, Lewis Capaldi and Ed Sheeran setting her apart from her contemporaries.
About the track: “I had broken pieces of a chorus in my head for weeks. I was at a time in my life where I felt really alone and distant from everyone, and the song actually ended up taking a lot longer to finish because I’m not used to being honest with myself. It’s made up of a lot of little different things; different people, different headspaces.
I think when I was younger, with any kind of relationship with someone, I thought I’d have it forever. Now I’m much more hesitant, I have a voice in the back of my head saying, “okay, this is good. So when does it end?” It’s kind of the moment when you’re getting on with your day and then you see something or hear a song and it takes you back to a time or a person. It just takes that split second to send you back.
I have this little thing on my keyring that someone once gave me and I never took it off. It’s sort of like I still carry them around, but I forget it’s even there until I notice it. Having the guitar through the bridge puts me into that headspace of letting music fill an awkward silence. I kept it instrumental because sometimes you can say too much. I feel ‘Stayed’ is the start of me coming into my own sound as an artist
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Dream Syndicate - The Longing.
When The Dream Syndicate emerged in the early 80s, front man Steve Wynn declared, “We’re playing music we want to hear because nobody else is doing it.” He added, “I’ll compromise on what I eat or where I sleep, but I won’t compromise on what music I play.” Both were true, and although their template of Velvet Underground meets Crazy Horse may seem commonplace today (and let’s not forget, the Syndicate spawned many imitators), their raw twin guitar, bass and drums approach was not common during an era when slick, polished MTV bands ruled.
Thirty years later The Dream Syndicate have announced their third album for ANTI-, The Universe Inside, which will be released on 10th April. They have now shared the video for new single 'The Longing', a cryptic clip that explores yearning, memories and the passage of time.
“A friend of mine once said, ‘You ought to write a song about longing,’” lead singer and songwriter Steve Wynn explained of the song’s titling. “This was a few years back but it stuck with me and when I was listening to minutes 20 through 28 of the improvisation that became The Universe Inside I knew that the suggestion had finally found its proper home. This section of music - that followed in real time the part that became “The Regulator” - felt so mournful and lost and adrift and confused, much like longing itself. You think you know where it’s at? The longing is stronger than that. Our resident visual interpreter David Dalglish picked up on that feeling for a video that connected hauntingly to that feeling of distance and memory. And now? Suddenly it all feels very much of the moment. A chasm, sleepless for day and days, rootless, unsettled and alone. All that’s left is the longing.”
This album could have been called The Art of The Improvisers – The Dream Syndicate were in a Richmond studio after midnight working out ideas when Stephen McCarthy dropped by and became a catalyst for uncharted exploration. In one session, they recorded 80 continuous minutes of soundscapes. Wynn took that raw tape back to his NYC home and played the shit out of it and thought, “My god, there’s an album here, damn it!”

Boxes - Electric Lights.
From the band - We're a country rock band based in Manchester, UK. We're a band all about those lyrics, harmonies and riffs.
We can't not make music, i'd be lost without it, inspiration include Luke Combs, Old Domino, Eric Church, Chris Stapleton etc (the list goes on) - we're country but with an English feel, there's a growing scene here in England and we want to be at the forefront of it!
The track Electric Lights is about going on a journey and the fear of being stuck in the same place or situation for too long.

Selci - Home Counties - Fassine - Beauty Pill
Selci has just shared 'Hide Forever' following on from 'Strangers' which we shared last month, her creative alt pop taking a slower, moody electro pop direction on this occasion. === Bristol, England band Home Counties have released 'Redevelopment' which is a vibrant and addictive indie rocker. === Last month we shared 'Magpie' from Fassine who return for a sixth time on Beehive Candy with 'Max' an atmospheric and more electronic piece, from this imaginative trio. === Released today Beauty Pill share 'Please Advise' a creative and highly individual piece, that exudes intrigue.

Selci - Hide Forever.
Calgary soundscaper Selci is returning with the languid electro-R&B number, “Hide Forever,” which will appear on her second EP in less than a year, A SOFT PLACE. As the world is gripped by the Coronavirus pandemic, the track’s message of finding comfort in isolation seems especially fitting in these uncertain times.
“Hide Forever” is a slumbering reflection of the artist trapped in a sleep state during a periodic low. Produced with the help of prolific Vancouver beatmaker Neighbour and tempered by Selci’s narcotic vocals, the track flows like a curl of smoke.
“I wrote 'Hide Forever' when I was in a major depression and I wasn’t able to face the world,” Selci says. “Sleep was my only place of solace. The world would shut off and I could drift away. For A SOFT PLACE, I needed to dig into the places that made me feel safe, where the fear and stress of the world was silenced: laying on a couch with family, dancing by myself, or sleeping. Sometimes finding a soft place is a site of peace.
Sometimes it’s a place of refuge or a part of you that you need to protect. Now with people all over the world going into self-isolation, this song seems to resonate more. I hope that people who are struggling with their mental health because of the pandemic are able to find their own places of softness and comfort. While you may feel like hiding forever, just know that you're not alone—we’re all in this together."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Home Counties - Redevelopment.
Home Counties reside in Bristol and combine angular guitar work with furious percussion. Supporting Whenyoung and Pip Blom on tour in previous incarnations of the band, the 5-piece make melodically rigid, socially-charged anthems that are lyrically tongue-in-cheek and scathingly satirical.
Yesterday (March 24th) the band shared their debut single as Home Counties, 'Redevelopment'. A raucously danceable earworm examining gentrification in the UK; the interplay between its intricate guitar passages and singer Will Harrison's impassioned yelps is infectious.
“‘‘Redevelopment’ is about town redevelopment,” the band explain. “Lyrically, the first half of the song takes the view of 1960s redevelopers, with the second half addressing the tearing down of modernist buildings and replacing them with gentrified luxury flats. The song points out that these ideas of nostalgia, urban decay and progress come around in cycles. Fundamentally, it suggests that we should be as wary of arguments against redevelopment, as of redevelopment itself.”
Having already caught the attention of Huw Stephens – receiving airplay on BBC Radio 1 and 6Music, 'Redevelopment' also stands as the title track from the bands upcoming debut EP, produced by Theo Verney (Egyptian Blue, Fur) – due for release later this year.

Fassine - Max.
Asserting a fierce electronic element to their acclaimed pop formula, UK industrial-pop trio Fassine will release new album FORGE this Friday, March 27 via Trapped Animal Records/Cargo Records. A gripping tribute to the unassuming heroes on the fringes of society, the new collection is bolder than ever, elevating the London trio’s distinctive take on electronic music with heavier, more aggressive instrumentation.
The band continues their tradition of covering obscure tracks, this time choosing Italian jazz singer Paolo Conte’s “Max” which debuted with New Noise Magazine today. Conte, an Italian legend who the UK’s Guardian once described as a “Maestro of a lost elegance” has been a part of the country’s DNA for over forty- five years. Aggressive and commanding, the band has reimagined the largely instrumental original with their uniquely cinematic and bombastic approach. Fabrizio of ARQTIC offers his authentic Italian vocals to the track, and performs the piano solo at the end.
Says Sarah Palmer “We were in the studio late one night and were debating about how to record the small section of Italian in the song. Not being Italian we were concerned that our English accents would destroy the song. We wandered down to grab a coffee and Stefano Fiori and Fabrizio Pagni just happened to be there. We couldn’t believe our luck and asked them if they would do the vocal. Initially, they were a bit skeptical owing to the fact that the song was so strange and niche but they ended up not only doing the vocal part but also contributing musically to the song. One of those serendipitous moments that worked big time”.

Beauty Pill - Please Advise.
Beauty Pill announces Please Advise, the first new music the band has released since 2015’s Describes Things As They Are, an album that earned widespread acclaim including NPR Music's album of the year list and TIME Magazine's 10 best albums of the decade list.
The lead single “Pardon Our Dust” is now available worldwide on streaming platforms as of today. This past Friday, the track was released early (exclusively on Bandcamp) to help raise funds for Beauty Pill and bandleader Chad Clark, whose rare heart condition puts him at critical risk should he contract COVID-19. "If I become infected, I’m gonna die pretty swiftly. My doctor has assured me of this," Clark shared recently via Twitter.
The accompanying music video for lead single "Pardon Our Dust" features newest Beauty Pill member Erin Nelson and debuted this past weekend via Spin. "Most Beauty Pill songs work by insinuation,” Clark explains, “but “Pardon Our Dust” is more abstract. It’s about oblivion. The dictionary says oblivion is “the state of being unaware of what is happening.” To me, oblivion seemed an idea worth interrogating in the Trump age when a lot of people feel like disappearing... To me, cumulatively the song feels like science fiction and the voice is some kind of malfunctioning artificial intelligence. What do "so few reasons left" and "willing to burn” mean? Something is happening in this song, but I can’t tell what. I’m not sure.”Please Advise will be available May 8th, 2020 via Northern Spy Records on Digital/CD/Cassette/Vinyl, each with distinct artwork (designed by Grammy-winning artist Brian Grunert) and unique bonus track exclusive to that format.
In conjunction with the release of Please Advise, Beauty Pill will host a weekend art exhibit of Yes I Am A Hologram at the highly respected D.C. art gallery, Lost Origins, where the band will also perform in an intimate, special one-off configuration.

Caroline Blind - Matthew Pinder (feat. Sara Davis Regan)
Caroline Blind has released her debut solo album entitled 'The Spell Between', along with a video for 'First'. This is a really fine album packed with variety from post punk through to more acoustic and reflective songs, with a dark folk connection keeping the albums overall style together. === Matthew Pinder shares 'Blue' featuring Sara Davis Regan, it's a gently paced song where the dual vocals are closely entwined and the atmospheric feel is soothing and blissful.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Caroline Blind - The Spell Between (Album).
During these very turbulent times for the world and the music scene, Caroline Blind shares her debut solo album. The Spell Between is a gothic love letter to some of the songs that inspired Caroline throughout her career, combining covers, reworked Sunshine Blind tracks, and original new material. The record features collaborations by Rich W. of the Wake, Dave the Dramedy, David Wolfenden of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Ashe Ruppe from Delphine Coma, George Earth from Switchblade Symphony, and Gordon Young from Joy Thieves/Pretentious Moi/Children on Stun/ The Dream Disciples.
The Spell Between includes eleven tracks that transmit different moods and feelings, all connected by a dark folk undertone. Songs like "God Damn the Sun" and "Heaven" reflect Blind's passion for acoustic guitars; while "Tribe" has pulsating electric guitars and percussion, for all the post-punk lovers. "Death to Sleep" explores aerie and experimental atmospheres, that Bjork fans would find appealing. One of the highlights of the record is Caroline's stripped down interpretation of the classic song by Bill Withers, "Ain't No Sunshine"
The album comes out with a video for the single "First", the track that serves as an opener for the record and the fourth single released by Caroline. "First" is a subtle goth ballad, Blind's version of The Wake's dark-wave song.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Matthew Pinder - Blue (feat. Sara Davis Regan).
Bahamian indie-folk artist Matthew Pinder has released a new single, “Blue”, on all major platforms. Collaborating with Sara Davis Regan (vocals), Chris Jacobie (producer) and Mitch Webb (engineer), Pinder has crafted a beautifully relaxed melodic soundscape to frame the vulnerably intimate lyrics that explore Pinder’s inner thoughts as an artist. “I don’t remember writing this song. I just know I wrote it when life stretched and collapsed during the aftermath of my mom dying.
I had no intention of moving, I had no plans. I think I knew I would eventually make songs again but I started feeling tired of the artist image I created. I preached honesty and vulnerability as if I invented the concepts. When I look back at old interviews or read how I used to describe myself and my songs I ask myself, “who the fuck is this guy?” Writing new songs became less about trying to be as deep and heavy and emotional as possible and more about making music that felt good to me. I don’t want to tell people what they should feel from my music. I like “Blue”, it makes me feel good… I just hope that whoever listens this song can make their own meaning out of it.” - Matthew Pinder
Seeking to find answers and slow the world down, Matthew Pinder is an artist that explores the mountain range of human emotions with a tender artistry that commonly threads throughout his music. The Bahamian singer-songwriter sings from his own experiences, never afraid to bare the raw honesty of life and use his music to tell the stories that often go untold, allowing his music to leave an "indelible mark on indie-folk music" (B-Sides & Badlands). Working with Chris Jacobie (Penny & Sparrow) to create his latest album, Give Me Some Time was met with high critical acclaim and hailed as "Pinder's magnum opus: a debut so rich and extravagantly heart-rending and deeply-crushing" (B-Sides & Badlands).
This album yielded the viral hit single, "Golden Hour", that launched Pinder into becoming a truly emerging artist. A fan favorite, "Golden Hour" has amassed over 1Million streams since its 2019 release, followed by hit singles “Break My Heart and Let Me Go” and “So Far”. Combining his modern flair with influences of classic singer-songwriters such as Neil Young and Bob Dylan, and present day artists such as Noah Gundersen and The Head And The Heart, Pinder melds it all into a sound that is completely his own - a sound that we are eager to see continue evolving.

Big Fox - Emmrose - Fake Shape - The Electric Mess
Big Fox just released the new track 'Let Love In' ahead of her forthcoming album 'See How The Light Falls'. It's a lush piece with layered synth's supporting some beautiful and oh so natural vocals. === Comprising of seven wonderful songs Emmrose has just unveiled her 'Hopeless Romantics' E.P. We featured the title track last November and now we have the full collection. === Alternative Indie band Fake Shape have shared 'It's Easy' which is a combination of dream pop and subtle indie rock and quickly develops that play me again feel. === The Electric Mess wowed us earlier this month with 'Last Call' and if anything have upped the stakes even further with 'City Sun' a glorious rocker, and some!

Big Fox - Let Love In.
Malmö, Sweden-based artist Charlotta Perers AKA Big Fox returns six years after her last album release with new full-length ‘See How the Light Falls’, produced by Tom Malmros (Alice Boman), along with focus track ‘Let Love In’.
Initially due for release in May 2018, Perers received some news which derailed the campaign. “A few weeks before the album was supposed to be released I was diagnosed with lymphoma,” she says. “It all happened very quickly and it was almost like entering a parallel world with a different time scale, rules and priorities. It felt almost like being forced on to one of those ghost trains in a theme park, going in and out of tunnels and not knowing when or how or even if I would be able to get off.”
The whole process also allowed a deeper sense of perspective to come to light for Perers. “Life suddenly became very intense, very here and now - but that amplified positive experiences too. I realized how deeply our happiness is connected to our expectations. If I didn’t expect or demand things of life I could actually be quite happy just playing Yahtzee all day. But it felt good to know that the album was waiting for me on the other side. It was a reminder of something else, the someone I was outside the hospital.”
Layered with hazy synths, string melodies, and soft effortless vocals; ‘Let Love In’ signifies the feeling of desperately longing to be more open with others, and taking new steps to change that. Fusing classic pop and melodic indie, Charlotta has cleverly created a distinctive sound that is both sophisticated and mature.

Emmrose - Hopeless Romantics (E.P).
Alt-pop teen artist Emmrose shared her debut EP Hopeless Romantics with the world on Friday. A deeply personal collection of songs reflect on love, heartbreak, and finding your own happiness. Emmrose delivers intense, poetic lyrics and catchy pop melodies, immersing listeners into a deeply emotive world of her own.
"Don’t let bad people stay in your life," reflected Emmrose, speaking both on the content of the EP and her own experiences. "It is possible to move on and find happiness. Don’t let the pain of life over come you and take away your spirit. It’s possible to overcome it. It’s okay to be sad, but just know that this sadness isn’t really ‘you’, and your attachment to people isn’t happy and you can move on." While much of the material reflects on heartache and heartbreak, the ultimate message is one of hope, and learning how to find a way to move on.
Hopeless Romantics embraces the idea of interwoven emotions, memories, and experiences, acknowledging how they can continue to impact an individual as they try to move forward in finding their own happiness. "The song 'Takes Me Back' was written a while after I wrote 'Five Months' even though it is heard as an intro to the song," shared Emmrose. "I thought it fit well since it is the memory of what had taken place in the lyrics of 'Five Months'. It was a pretty dark time for me, and the audio effects highlight the lyrics so well. I’m really proud of that track."
Much of her lyrical and musical inspiration comes while writing alone at home. "I’ll either play chords that come to me, or a melody that’s been ringing in my head. Sometimes I write down lyrics and then set it to music," said Emmrose. Over the course of the past year, she recorded Hopeless Romantics, and a surge of new material with producer/engineer Michael Abiuso (Behind the Curtains Media). "I’ve been working with Michael a lot more, and it’s been really exciting," said Emmrose, reflecting on her growth. "While experimenting with sounds in the studio, we often find ourselves working on individual creations until ready to share, we then combine ideas to make something really great. Mike will often suggest some crazy ideas, like having me pick up and play an accordion, or belt lyrics into the bell of a tuba as a vocal effect. We always find ourselves doing something kooky and fun in the studio." Their collaborative efforts showcases itself with intricate details on every track, further accenting her soaring vocals.

Fake Shape - It's Easy.
Fake Shape is an Alternative-Indie band from Hamilton, Ontario that formed in September 2018.
All five musicians offer their own aesthetic, creating music that falls between funk, indie-rock, pop and ambient electronic.
They have been writing and recording at Fort Rose in Hamilton and are getting ready to release their debut EP, Night Swim.
The songs drift through contrasting mindsets and morphing textures like navigating a solitary swim through dark water.

The Electric Mess - City Sun.
Garage-punk band The Electric Mess share a new single "City Sun" this weekend! Self-described as a dystopian proto-punk ripper, its timing is darkly appropriate, although unintended, with NYC, and the world, coming to a grinding halt over the COVID-19 virus. "City Sun" comes ahead of The Electric Mess' fifth album The Electric Mess V, due out April 17th.
" 'City Sun' is a dystopian tune I wrote about a year ago," reflected front-woman Esther Crow (vocals, rhythm guitar, percussion). "It has some surf elements but also a post-punk vibe, and then a slower, psyched out part with theremin (synth)." While the lyrics reflect darkly, they also provide a sense of hope and ability to overcome. "I think the overall feeling that most of us are experiencing under the current situation and events is what prompted me to write it," continued Crow.
"It specifically refers to the New York City sun, and the setting of the sun/entrance of "the shadow" is a metaphor for the end of the world (as we know it? or...entirely? It's your guess!). Though the song is dark, and times have gotten even darker than when I wrote it a year ago, there's a desperate clutching at HOPE and LIGHT too. The lyrics during the slow/synth part, "what more can I do, here, to keep the light on...in my mind?" reflect a yearning to dig deep inside and stay positive, even though the outside world keeps hurling challenges at us. Ultimately, defeating the darkest elements will depend on fearlessly standing up to evil, and conquering it with love and light. I believe we can do this!"

Dana Gavanski - Jakob's Ferry Stragglers - Glenn Thomas - Deleo - Jennah Barry
Dana Gavanski final single before next weeks album release is 'Small Favours', a stripped back piece that builds a little without losing a natural personal vibe. === We have always been fans of live music on Beehive Candy so Jakob's Ferry Stragglers live single 'Poison River' is very welcome especially as it's a fabulous Bluegrass song with superb musicianship. === Glenn Thomas shares 'Catherine Ames' an intimate modern folk song that is fabulously arranged. === Accompanied by a dramatic video Deleo has just released 'Unfair' a moody and hook filled modern pop song. === Our fourth feature for Jennah Barry just ahead of her 'Holiday' album release is for the new single 'Rocket' which is another beautiful soft rock song.

Dana Gavanski - Small Favours.
Serbian-Canadian musician Dana Gavanski will release her debut album, Yesterday Is Gone, on March 27th via Flemish Eye Records (Canada), Ba Da Bing Records (Americas) and Full Time Hobby (Rest of the World). This weekend she presents “Small Favours”, the final single before the album release later this month. Dana shared her state of mind when she wrote “Small Favours” and how it came to her in a song. “Small Favours expresses cheekiness. A playful dismissal of heaviness and getting bogged down by emotions, acknowledging how things may seem small when they’re big and big when they’re small.”
By turns break-up album, project of curiosity, and, as Dana puts it, “a reckoning with myself,” Yesterday Is Gone is an album of longing and devotion to longing, and of the uncertainty that arises from learning about oneself, of pushing boundaries, falling hard, and getting back up. Moments of beguilement splinter a backdrop of tenderly picked guitar, bass, synth, and poppier elements, which commune to produce her own kind of wall of sound. Each component is meticulously placed, yielding a deeply sincere response to the chaos of human emotion.
Yesterday Is Gone was co-produced between Dana, Toronto-based musician Sam Gleason, and Mike Lindsay (Tunng and LUMP w/ Laura Marling). While Sam helped Dana bring out the tunes, Mike’s input marked the beginning of developing Dana’s sound. The two kept stripped it down to the essentials, keeping things bare and letting the songs speak for themselves. The album shapeshifted as it passed through the hands of Dana, Sam, and Mike, taking on different tastes, feelings, and visions. When Dana performed the songs with a band, they found new form again. She was intrigued by performers like David Bowie and Aldous Harding, who inhabit different personalities on stage, physically tuning themselves to their music.
“Often we have to go a little far in one direction to learn something about ourselves,” Dana says. The months of solitary writing and self-doubt testify to this, but they’ve led to Yesterday Is Gone: an optimistic, steely-eyed gaze into the future.

Jakob's Ferry Stragglers - Poison River Live!
Jakob's Ferry Stragglers are eager and ready to release their first live album into the world, titled "The Straggle is Live". The album is a curation of the group's greatest hits and was recorded live at The Church Recording Studio by Dana Cannone. The set was performed on 10/9/19 with a private, invite-only intimate audience. It was mixed & mastered by Will Shenk at Metier Mastering in Front Royal, VA.
“The Straggle is Live'' started with an idea to capture the animated onstage energy of the band, in a controlled studio environment. It’s not often that a recorded bluegrass album truly matches the sights and sounds of seeing the talent live in-person.
The team took this task to heart and has produced an outcome where the at-home listener can truly understand what it means to be at a live Jakob’s Ferry Stragglers show. "Poison River (LIVE)" will be released ahead of the full album, which is set for a drop date of May 22, 2020, at their first-time appearance at legendary The Station Inn in Nashville, ahead of their weekend at DelFest in Cumberland, MD.

Glenn Thomas - Catherine Ames.
Glenn Thomas new song is called "Catherine Ames," named for the antagonist of Steinbeck's East Of Eden. In it, Glenn sings to Catherine and cathartically tells her he's let her go. The song is about resolution and moving forward.
Glenn says of "Catherine Ames": "This song takes it name from the antagonist in John Steinbeck’s East of Eden, Cathy Ames. She’s pretty evil and causes a lot of pain for the main character. This song is about holding on to pain and anger as though they are part of your identity.
Forgiveness is not the same as forgetting, and as with any kind of healing and moving forward, it takes time. There was a moment for me when I realized I wasn’t holding onto something in my past that hurt me and had become part of me for years, and it was a really cathartic thing to write about. I pulled Steinbeck’s character name because there is a similar theme of resolution and moving forward in that story that was relatable, and he’s one of my favorite American authors."
He's such a poetically clever songwriter, and his sound is like Brit-pop-inspired folky vintage sunshine. Would you be willing to share this one? The song is out officially on 3/20. We'd be so grateful for the support!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deleo - Unfair.
Unfair is representative of our sound – a hybrid of pop, rock and electro, as if these genres never split apart but remained a single, fused supercontinent.
The track is a good way to discover our music.
It’s a ballad, maybe our most subtly mutant song, one you can curl up in and sail away, as smooth as Black’s ‘Wonderful Life’ blended with Garbage and Archive.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jennah Barry - Rocket.
Jennah's new single is entitled 'Rocket'. Quote from Jennah: "Rocket is about acting on impulse and saying things you can’t take back."
"Rocket" comes from the gorgeous Jennah Barry LP Holiday, coming March 27th 2020 on Forward Music Group. Majorly recommended for fans of Andy Shauf, whose bandmate Colin Nealis produced the LP, the songs here are built to last, with echoes of those soft-rock classics often referred to as "AM gold."
Barry's vocals are warm and weave through the arrangements with so much skill. The arrangements are full and pillowey but always pull up short of being cloying or overdone, more-so than the source material she's referencing. This record is like catnip for me, honestly, just a true pleasure to listen to.

AM Clouds - Inbetween Movies - Proud Creature - Good Wilson - Elrichman
Last month AM Clouds released their 'Rainmaker' album, we shared 'Tune Me In' from it, now this very fine indie rock (and more) band have shared a video for the title track. === We have already featured the first two singles from the debut E.P and now we have the full collection as Inbetween Movies today release 'Temporary Music For The Masses' where their mixture of dream pop and atmospheric shoegaze is magnificent. === Proud Creature has just shared his 'Opening Creature E.P' from which we have 'Eastern Lines' and 'Pines', expect anything from ambient to psychedelic and jazz, all superbly delivered. === Good Wilson self titled album 'Good Wilson' is released today. The band describe their music as Sky Gaze or dream pop for staring at the sky letting your mind drift off, it's a good description for what is an exceptional album. === Elrichman shares 'I Mostly Consume' which is a vibrant sophisti-pop song, that exudes warm vibes throughout.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AM Clouds - Rainmaker.
Oregon-based AM Clouds craft adventurous roosty indie rock that traverses both the internal and external landscapes of human experience. Their hometown of Bend offers extreme climate changes and expansive beauty, prompting them to coin the term ‘high desert rock.’ Even their name, AM Clouds, was derived from a phrase that was constantly broadcast across the Oregon weather forecast.
Meshing classic and alternative, the band connects the dots between several eras of rock music, from angular indie to psychedelic noise jams, equal parts Neil Young and Meat Puppets, Tom Petty and Uncle Tupelo. Their debut EP, War of Love, was released in 2017, and was welcomed with open arms by local press, picking up heavy rotation on KPOV and KRFM. “We’re located in a rugged, remote place, where culture has a tendency to be overshadowed by nature,” Moon relates. “I think people really connect to hearing their majestic surroundings captured musically with a bit of cinematic flair.”
Made up of Bruce Troy Moon (lead vocals, lead guitar), Graham Boostrom (rhythm guitar, vocals), Pete Ficht (bass, keys, vocals), and Dan Paggi (drums, vocals), the band is both immediate and relatable, comprised of musicians committed to their individual tone but more invested in serving the overall sound. Since their inception, they’ve played across Central Oregon, sharing the stage with veteran roots rockers the Mother Hips and Portand’s psych rock pioneers King Black Acid.

Inbetween Movies - Temporary Music For The Masses.
Their first two singles have gained thousands of plays and streams on spotify, youtube and co.: Inbetween Movies provide the perfect soundtrack for the cinema in your head. Now, their debut EP 'Temporary Music for the Masses' is released today Friday, March 20th.
Inbetween Movies create atmospheric dreampop and shoegaze, while going back and forward in history and combine it's bits in a fresh and cheerful way. Their sound is a journey into the 1990s to the Pale Saints and Cocteau Twins, a detour into the 2010s to Ladytron and a trip to the present with Billie Eilish on the throne. Above all, Inbetween Movies lie their own spirit.
Zurich-based four-piece make us dream immediately, with «It all Sounds Quite Good To Me», the opener of the EP. At the same time this track reminds us of not closing our eyes permanently, but facing reality instead. And it make us watch one of their artistically playful video clips so we can dive into a colourful imaginery.

Proud Creature - Eastern Lines / Pines (Opening Creature E.P).
Introducing Psychedelic electronica/jazz/ambient musician Proud Creature, solo moniker for Todd Brozman. Expect fluidity, tension, otherworldly mystique and serious groove as this seasoned creator seamlessly merges genres, the underlying experience becoming of paramount importance.
Proud Creature's new 5-track EP release Opening Creature leans into it's sense of surrealism and should appeal to experimental ambient artists such as Oneohtrix Point Never and Future Sounds of London.
From the Artist: Opening Creature EP reflects travels and explorations I've had over the past few years. I'm trying to capture the headspace that opens up when we venture out of our default mindset and into something broader and more abstract. For me, these spaces have been explored through travel, dreams, nature, and spiritual exploration. Musically, there's lots of improvisation with eclectic instrumentation and non-traditional production techniques along with layerings of field recordings from travel, nature and religious prayer. Together, this creates an ethereal and otherworldly tone that underscores the broader themes of the album. As a whole, I am striving for something that feels alive, expansive, mysterious and alluring.
Over the past few years, I have gotten to create some great music with other artists. Now more than ever, I am inspired to release more music as a sole producer and instrumentalist. I hope you enjoy my first album as a solo artist.

Good Wilson - Good Wilson (Album).
Equipped with a mildly melancholic mood as travelling companion, the self-titled debut album “Good Wilson” is a dreamy walk in spring’s first sun rays, marked by easiness, absent-mindedness and sweet-tempered naivety. The band’s self-invented genre “sky gaze” - dream pop for starring at the sky and letting the mind drift off – describes Günther Paulitsch’s, Alex Connaughton’s, Mario Fartacek’s und Julian Pieber’s aka Good Wilson’s vibe perfectly.
Moony guitar loops, soulful strings, catchy synths and the unique smoothness of the pedal steel guitar remind us that life is a game, which shouldn’t be taken too seriously. “The daily struggle is real for all of us. Still, it’s important to sometimes lose your way on your own journey in order to discover new facets of yourself. You might stumble upon inspiring things, enriching yourself with confidence.”
Ethereal and snappy sound structures decoy the listener into letting go of everyday life and escaping into a parallel existence – if you engage in Good Wilson, you’ll wander off. Deeply submerged in a parallel existence, the album “Good Wilson” originated almost magically. “At time a mood went through all of us - we can find it again in our songs, but we can’t explain it.”

Elrichman - I Mostly Consume.
Toronto-based sophisti-pop artist Elrichman – the project of Paul Erlichman – is today sharing his breezy new single, ‘I Mostly Consume’. This is the latest track to be lifted from his forthcoming sophomore LP, Heaven’s Mayor which is due for release via the Madrid-based label, Bobo Integral in Summer 2020 (date moved due to COVID-19)
The record comes produced by Alex Gamble (Alvvays) with further contributions coming from members of Hooded Fang (Jon Pappo), Weaves (Zach Bines) and Twisted Pine (Anh Phung). The new collection trails Erlichman’s work as part of Goosebump (formerly Germaphobes) and bass duties in Toronto’s jangle-pop quartet, Ducks Unlimited.
Recorded at Toronto’s recently closed studios, The Hive, Heaven’s Mayor looks to meticulously examine how to be honest with oneself in a world driven by consumption. Chiming in with blissful stylistics akin to Orange Juice, Prefab Sprout and Sarah Records acts such as The Field Mice,‘I Mostly Consume’ thematically explores precisely what is says on the tin – consumption – focusing on the feeling that Paul has: the idea that we are on this planet solely for the purpose to consume.
Speaking about the track, Paul says: “‘I Mostly Consume’ is about feeling like you exist on this earth mostly to consume, which is the sense I have sometimes. The bridges set scenes of impending doom, but everything else is pretty cheery so I guess I'm a blissful consumer!” Heaven’s Mayor will be the follow-up to 2014’s Young, Healthy and Wonderful with a run of North American dates expected to follow the album release – we’ll have more on these shortly.

The Dollyrots - Claire Atkins
The Dollyrots brand new single was intended to be released at the start of a new tour, however not surprisingly that has now been postponed, however 'Make Me Hot' has been shared and their upbeat hook laden new wave/punk is once again wonderful. === Claire Atkins has just released 'Eternal Return' her debut E.P from which we have the title track where the singer songwriter serves up some heartfelt modern indie folk with a gorgeous musical backdrop.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Dollyrots - Make Me Hot.
The Dollyrots have released a new 7’’ on cloudy clear splatter vinyl that includes a brand-new song “Make Me Hot,” with a B-side of Lisa Loeb’s 1994 Grammy nominated number-one hit “Stay,” with a Dollyrots twist. The 7” will be available on March 17 on Little Steven van Zandt’s Wicked Cool Records.
The bands 2019 album Daydream Explosion was deemed by NPR as a ‘Notable Release’ and Huffington Post called it “foot-stomping medley” as it debuted on three billboard charts.
Their 2017 album Whiplash Splash hit Heatseekers chart at #13 and on the Independent Albums chart at #31. The band’s 2016 live album/DVD Family Vacation: Live in Los Angeles hit #15 on Heatseekers, while previous studio album Barefoot And Pregnant peaked at #7 on the same chart.

Claire Atkins - Eternal Return.
From the time we can talk we’re asked what we want to be when we grow up, and as we grow there’s huge pressure to find and follow a single passion. At age 46, Byron-based artist Claire Atkins has just released her debut EP Eternal Return, a body of work born of heartbreak and curiosity. With her training in fine arts, for the last 20 years Atkins has worked solidly as a studio artist, magazine editor, actor and creative producer, but it in the wake of significant loss, she says she hit a creative brick wall, and to her surprise discovered music.
‘I was dealing with a whole bunch of grief. My dad and two close friends died suddenly and in quick succession, and it paralysed me creatively speaking… Music kept suggesting itself to me, which was strange, because at the time I couldn’t play an instrument. I was quietly terrified by that, and so I started small with the uke,’ she said.
Within 12 months Atkins was writing and performing her own songs. Curious about the recording process, and with her teacher’s encouragement she sent her songs to producer and sound engineer Paul Pilsneniks (Angus & Julia Stone, Powderfinger, Silverchair) at Rockinghorse Studios in Byron Bay.
Pilsneniks says, ‘Hearing Claire’s demos I felt that these beautiful tunes would really shine with some additional instrumentation and production, and so we brought some amazing local artists to guest on the songs. We’ve ended up with a stunning debut EP, and I encourage any music-listening aficionado to keep an ear out for this body of work in early 2020,’ Atkins’s hometown region has taken up Pilsneniks's good advice with the album receiving significant media attention and high rotation on Byron’s BayFM.
The album’s title track is inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophy of eternal return that proposes the universe and everything within it has been recurring and will continue to recur in the same pattern infinitely. While Atkins says reliving heartbreak is not an attractive prospect she’s also confident of music’s power to transform hardship into something unexpected, beautiful and healing.
’In a strange way, I’m grateful for life’s challenging times, and if it wasn’t for them I may never have strummed a chord or written a lyric. That difficult period drove me to music and it saved me,’ she said. Atkins’s unique vocal style has been likened to Natalie Merchant and Julia Stone, and her story-driven songs are supported by a stunning line-up of guest artists including legendary horn players John Hoffman and Martha Baartz, and guitarists Angie Hudson and Al Brooker.
