This is The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band live at Fabrik, Hamburg, Germany, on the 12th October 2008.
This makes a great companion to the officially released live album 'Blue Again' (recorded live at the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis, Missouri in February of 2008) and we would urge anyone interested in this show to check out that album if you have not already done so. Blue Again received a 2010 Grammy nomination for 'Best Traditional Blues Album'.
This concert features some alternative songs to the official release and is a great reminder of the incredible material from the original 1960's Fleetwood Mac.

Mick Fleetwood did not seek to copy the original Fleetwood Mac, rather to "pay it tribute by creating something both historically respectful yet new and invigorated." To this end, he recruited former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Rick Vito, who had played on the Behind the Mask album in 1990, together with two relative unknowns, Lenny Castellanos and Mark Johnstone, to form the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band. The band subsequently undertook a tour of the United States, and later in 2008, Europe, including an appearance at the Notodden Blues Festival in Norway.

According to his website Matt Stevens is a musician and composer from North London. An instrumental artist, he uses an acoustic guitar and a sampler to create multi layered tracks live. This is often called Live Looping. His music is compared with artists as diverse as John Mclaughlin, Johnny Marr and Sigur Ros. He plays live all over the UK from festivals to house concerts.
His new album Ghost released today (June 1st) arrived in my inbox last Friday and has been playing on and off all weekend. This guy is really talented and the instrumental acoustic music takes you in many different directions and styles. Please check Matt Stevens out, it's a great shame that so many radio stations seem to shy away from 'instrumental' music as talented and creative work like this can go un-noticed, but not if Beehive Candy can help it! You can download 'Ghost' and more from Matt Stevens website below.

Music marketing company Musebox celebrate their forth annivesary in Brooklyn, New York, tommorrow (June 2nd) at Glasslands and one of the bands on the bill are Soundpool.
Soundpool are the disco-shoegazer NYC ensemble that fuses ethereal vocals, spacey lush synths, a wall of guitars sounds with funky bass lines, disco beats and psychedelic visuals. Their current record 'Mirrors In Your Eye's was released on the Killer Pimp label (of A Place To Bury Strangers’ fame) and was applauded by the likes of Pitchfork, The Deli Mag, GBH, and Losing Today. We here at the Beehive are reminded a little of St Etienne (in a positive manner) and cannot help ourselves in sharing a song on this occaision.

Also appearing at the above mentioned event are Telephoned. Now I did not intend to feature this band however the following song is just so catchy and the fact it goes off into a dub thing at one point is the tipping point. Oh well there goes my street credibility amongst the serious rock music fans...
Telephoned are a dance-pop duo from Brooklyn made up of DJ/producer Sammy Bananas (Fool’s Gold) and singer/party starter Maggie Horn (Good Peoples) that have earned early praise from the likes of Pitchfork, RCRD LBL, and YRB Magazine for their pseudo-covers and reworkings of original beats into hypnotic club tracks.

Not one but two instrumental albums in this edition! Spotlight Floodlight with debut album 'Polarized' which is a mixture of instrumental, cinematic and often mysterious songs from keyboardist Peter Adams.
Performed primarily on Rhodes and Wurlitzer electric pianos, Polarized blends the influences of Bill Evans, SIgur Ros (again - however valid point), and Erik Satie into a thick sonic atmosphere, where upright bass, and double drums interplay with Mellotron and wordless vocals.
Peter Adams, originally from Lexington Massachusetts, has recorded, toured, and performed keyboards with numerous bands and artists in Boston, New York City, and Los Angeles. He is now based in LA as an independent artist.

San Francisco-based The Real Nasty has just released its debut full-length album 'Paper City'. Recorded completely 'live' in the studio, the band have set out to get the concert vibe in the studio, something many bands struggle to achieve, however listening to the album I have to say there is an immiediacy and I can just imagine the guys collectivily playing along. With a traditional, up-right bass and a self-made cajon percussion set counterbalancing country-blues inspired guitar, The Real Nasty combines an electric sound with a more down-home, acoustic ethos, and are sure to gain some much deserved attention with their debut release.
Background to the band includes: Formed in January 2009, the Real Nasty is comprised of 3 veteran bay-area musicians with diverse musical backgrounds. Jacob Groopman’s guitar work is noticeably influenced by his bluegrass picking skills, and drummer Matt Smith’s deep interest in West African drumming is what informs his mastery of the cajon. With bassist Ryan Lukas, a music professor at the University of Santa Clara, holding down the bottom end, The Real Nasty brings together 3 very strong musical backgrounds, forming a unit and a sound that is truly unique.
Now, with their debut album just released, The Real Nasty are focused on bringing their explosive live show to new fans all over the West Coast.

Finally this time around we feature a rock trio based in NYC by the name of Vanguard Villains.
They contacted Beehive Candy directly and have informed us that they recently released their debut album, and are getting positive reviews from various blogs, such as Wild Honey Pie, Brill Dream, Moxie And Mayhem, and Knocks From The Underground.
The band formed in January 2009 and have been working the Brooklyn and Manhatten music circuit, and have independently released their debut album. Whats most important is they are really good, with the powerful sound a three piece rock band can produce, and some creative and well performed songs, check Vanguard Villains out - recommended !

This is Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds performing at Fuji Rock in Tokyo back on the 2nd August 1998.
This is a resonably well circulated recording of the show and is missing Brompton Oratory and possibly Whiskey Rye from the concert although there remains some confusion if the latter was performed on this occasion.
Sound quality is good and Nick Cave comes across in an upbeat mood somewhat teasing the audience on a couple of occasion. The set list reads as a 'Best Of' up to this point in the bands history.

01. Do You Love Me?

In 1990, the band collectively eliminated hard drugs from its diet, relocated to Brazil, and released The Good Son, Kid Congo Powers' final collaboration with the band. Their next record, 1992's Henry's Dream, was the first to feature current members Martyn Casey and Conway Savage. Following it came 1994's Let Love In.
In 1996, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds released Murder Ballads. It includes "Henry Lee," a duet with British rock singer PJ Harvey (with whom Cave had a brief relationship), and "Where the Wild Roses Grow," a duet with Australian pop idol Kylie Minogue. The latter was a mainstream hit in the UK and in Australia, winning three ARIA Awards including "Song of the Year." Australian violinist Warren Ellis began working with the band at this time, and would play an increasingly significant creative role in the band's output in coming years. American drummer Jim Sclavunos also joined the group.
Their next album, The Boatman's Call (1997), is marked by a radical shift away from archetypal and violent narratives to biographical and confessional songs about his relationships with Carneiro and Harvey. Nick Cave then took a short break to rehabilitate from his 20 years of heroin and alcohol abuse, during which time he got married.

UK producers and remix sensations Mock and Toof released their debut full-length Tuning Echoes on Monday of this week. Riding a reputation as one of the most sought after acts on the DJ circuit, Mock & Toof demonstrate what happens when one combines an education in house music with a love of experimental pop and psychedelic rock.
Duncan Stump (Mock) & Nick Woolfson (Toof) are two of the UK’s most creative music producers. Having made a name for themselves via 12” releases on James Murphy’s DFA Recordings and their own Tiny Sticks imprint; the pair have forged a reputation for brilliantly off-kilter, disco-fuelled house grooves that are laced with originality. Enough originality in fact to have caught the attention of Hot Chip, Zero 7, Holy Ghost! and Groove Armada who’ve all come calling for their remix services.
Their press release goes on "Tuning Echoes is not a “nu-disco” album of grooves. It would have been far too easy for the duo to compile ten club tracks and call it an album. “We’ve never been about ‘nu-disco’, whatever that means anyway…” Explains Duncan. “Anyone who knows our music will know that we’re a bit all over the place as producers, if we like an idea we run with it and we’re much more comfortable being eclectic and not pigeonholed.” Dont be put off by words like 'disco' and 'club scene' this is all about developing a quite unique album that has really captured Beehive Candy's interest.

Sonny Smith, front man of the group Sonny & The Sunsets, has launched a gargantuan art project called 100 Records that is currently running at San Francisco’s Gallery 16. Sonny dedicated one year to write 100 songs that were recorded over various sessions with his band The Sunsets, The F**karoos, solo recordings, and even recording sessions in his esteemed camper Sluggo. Close to 80 visual artists created faux 7” record covers of fictional bands and singers created solely by Smith...In addition is a homemade custom built working jukebox loaded with all 100 songs to play in the art show. The songs on the jukebox range from pop, concept ideas, spoken word, instrumentals, surf, garage, folk and rock n roll.
Gallery 16 has put out 100 Records ‘Volume 1’, a limited edition of 40 box sets including reproductions of 12 of the art covers, with a CD of 16 original songs inside. 100 Records ‘Volume 2: I Miss The Jams’, coming out on Turn-Up Records in early June, is another box set including five 7” splits with 10 of the fictional artists represented. Volume 2 also features fellow San Francisco singers Ty Segall, Tim Cohen (Fresh n Only’s), Heidi Alexander (The Sandwitches), Donovan Quinn and more.
Interestingly, two of the bands created in the project, The F**karoos and The Loud Fast Fools, have become real bands in addition to random appearances in live shows by Earth Girl Helen Brown and Zig Speck.
100 Records will be featured at Okay Mountain Gallery in Austin, TX opening June 5th as well as Cinders Gallery in New York opening August 13th. Look for 100 Records ‘Volume 3’ later this year.

Steve Hackett releases his new album 'Out Of The Tunnels Mouth' on the 8th June 2010.
He has also shared one track from the forthcoming album free over on the AOL radio blog. In support of the new album Steve will be touring North America from the 18th of June, just click on the picture to enlarge and see the tour date details.
Having only heard the song shared through the AOL radio blog Beehive Candy are not really in a position to say much more than it's good enough to repeat here, and if this song is anything to go by we look forward to listening to the full album.
And we have written all this without one reference to his 'former band' either, not bad eh?

The City And Horses, have been around for several years and just recently sparked new attention with their song "I Miss It All" that was featured in the Paper Heart movie.
The City and Horses is the work of a Brooklyn songwriter and former Cosby Show extra named Marc. While firmly steeped in the indie tradition, The City and Horse's songs traverse many genres of pop: from twee to power to psychedelic to chamber to folk to lo-fi and back again. The common threads are idiosyncratic vocals, often accompanied by surprising harmonies, and clever and heartfelt lyrics that mix the wit of Stephin Merritt with the wist of Stuart Murdoch (or something).
Anyhow this song came our way and sparked our imagination, the band are now with ever growing Paper Garden Records who seem to have the knack for spotting some 'stuff' we like.

The Super Vacations made their first recordings in August of 2007. They released their first LP on Shdwply Records in April 2008.
Currently all of the band members are living in Virginia. Since the release of their first LP they have played a bunch of shows on the East Coast, had over 15 different members, toured the US with Gary War and Teeth Mountain, and have members playing in several other high-profile acts . In January of 2009, they began working on a new record.
The new album 'Thicker Milk' will be out some time in June and many thanks to Rob from the band, who fowarded the Beehive a copy of this whirlwind of a new album. We love it! Check them out!

Invisible Elephant is the project of one man and his assortment of randomly acquired instruments, ranging from frog guiros to pre-school toy drum kits. These are melded together with found sounds, synthesizers and spectral vocals to create a dream-like wash of psychedelic noise which defies simple categorisation. Veering from ethereal softly-spoken psych folk to walls of monolithic feedback in a heartbeat, it's difficult to pin the sound down to one genre.
Well that's how the promo describes Invisible Elephant, and on the strength of the featured track we kinda agree. Actually this is a fine way to finish off this 2010FM round up, there have been a few quite contrasting tunes and Invisible Elephant dont let us down. More please!

As mentioned in The Watson Twins feature, the pathway that led Beehive Candy to the twins was through Rilo Kiley and their lead singer Jenny Lewis.
It's notable that performing as a solo artist Jenny has an alt country feel that is quite different to the music of Rilo Kiley, and demonstrates another dimension to her musical talent.
Occasionally we feature audienced sourced material here, provided the audio quality is very clean and does the artist and the concert justice, which is the case with this recording.
Recorded live at the Plaza Theater, Orlando, USA, last year on the 29th June this is a really good concert from Jenny Lewis.

In 2004, Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes invited Jenny Lewis to record a solo record for record label Team Love. Described by Jenny Lewis as "a kind of soul record", Rabbit Fur Coat (released January 24, 2006) features contributions from Oberst, M. Ward, and Maroon 5 guitarist James Valentine. Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie (and Lewis's bandmate in The Postal Service) guests on a cover of The Traveling Wilburys' "Handle With Care."
The Watson Twins provide accompaniment on the album, billed as Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins. Lewis toured with the Watson Twins in support of the album three times in 2006 and appeared with her band on The Late Show With David Letterman, The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, Late Night With Conan O'Brien and Later with Jools Holland.
In 2008, Lewis released a second solo album, this time without the Watson Twins, titled Acid Tongue.
