Leo Sayer - Boston USA 1975

Image
This is singer songwriter Leo Sayer live at Pauls Mall in Boston on March 9th 1975. Leo's debut album 'Silverbird' was released in 1973 and was one of my favorite albums from that year, indeed I still give it a listen from time to time. Four songs from the album are performed within this concert. By the time of this concert Leo had enjoyed a number of hits and had gained a good following both in the UK and the USA. For me personally his musical direction after Silverbird was a little to 'single hits' orientated, however his positive and upbeat style gives all his songs a lift when performed live, and after all who can blame him from exploiting his chart success. 2010FM - April Edition Two.

Image
As was the case with the first April 2010FM edition all the featured songs are at the bottom of this edition in one playlist.  I have already given some attention to Alcoholic Faith Mission this year, however with the forthcoming release of the new album 'Let This Be The Last Night We Care' (available on April 27th in the USA on Paper Garden Records) and those nice folk at said record label sending us another song by the band, I just had to give them another big Beehive Candy recommendation. The band will be touring Japan and Europe along with the U.S. this year so keep a look out for tour details. Featured Track: My Eyes To See . Website: MySpace . Purchase: Paper Garden Records . Amazon . _________________________ Indianapolis three-piece Burnt Ones released their debut 7" All Night Long via Roaring Colonel Records last Thursday (April 15th), which also happens to be the label's debut release. The Corrs - Sopot Festival Poland 1998

Image
This is The Corrs live at The Sopot Festival in Poland back on the 21st August 1998. The band have been on hiatus since 2006, as raising families and personal aspirations understandably take priority. Having seen them live a couple of times, this performance is a fine representation of their excellent musicianship and harmonies. The Corrs are one of those bands that make what they do seem so easy, however years of practice lay behind their superb performances. With the encouragement of their parents, Jim took guitar lessons, Sharon played the violin and Andrea took up the tin whistle. Caroline did not learn to play the drums until she was 17 and was helped by a boyfriend at the time. They were all taught the piano by their father. Throughout their teenage years the children practised in Jim's bedroom at a rented house. Andrea sang lead vocals, Sharon played the violin, and Caroline and Jim played the keyboards. The Blue Nile - Manchester 1991.

Image
This is The Blue Nile in concert back on the 13th September 1991 at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester, England. The band was formed in 1981 when Paul Buchanan  and his friend, Robert Bell, met Paul Joseph Moore after graduating from the University of Glasgow in the late 1970s. Although their individual degrees didn't reflect their future career wishes (English Literature, Electronics and Mathematics, respectively), their mutual friendship grew out of their shared interest in music, and they began writing and recording together. The music of The Blue Nile is built heavily on synthesizers and electronic instrumentation and percussion, although later works have featured acoustic guitar more prominently. The band have only produced four albums and large gaps between recording and touring has always been the norm for this band. Source: BBC FM radio broadcast. 2010FM - April Edition One.

Image
A slight change for this edition with all the music streamed at the bottom in one player. Details of each featured track are mentioned with each artist. Hidden Shoal Recordings recently announced the release of the single ‘The Green’ by American ambient experimental pop duo Boxharp . For those new to the band, Boxharp are Scott Solter (producer/engineer for the likes of Spoon, The Mountain Goats  and St. Vincent) and Wendy Allen (Tarentel and The Ballustrade Ensemble). The title track from their forthcoming album, ‘The Green’ sees Boxharp perhaps clarify what spacious astral pop sounds like. The song is a splendid and gentle presentation of quality pop with the multi-tracked vocals of Wendy Allen, ‘The Green’is a great introduction for the forthcoming album and has got Beehive Candy very interested in hearing more. The band was recently featured on David Bowie's official website after previously being chosen by Bowie in an article in British newspaper The Guardian as one of h

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain - Live in Austria 2009

Image
This the The Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain in concert at the Glatt & Verkehrt Festival, Winzer Krems, Krems, Austria on the 26th July 2009.  The superb musicianship along with thier unique take on so many famous songs across different genres along with the humour, make this a definate must have for all fans, and a great reminder for anyone who has seen them at festivals or on tour. If The UOOGB are new to you then in my opinion this is one download worth the time checking out. This recording has had any radio announcements edited out and on occaision this is noticeable between songs however does not distract at all, and the banter from the band remains intact. Peter Frampton - Record Plant 1975

Image
It is worth going over the history regarding this Peter Frampton recording. The show was was performed at San Francisco's Record Plant studios on the 24th March 1975 without any audience which does give a 'session' feel to the material. It was originally broadcast on KSAN-FM's Live From The Record Plant concert series in 1975. Peter Frampton had little commercial success with his early albums. This changed with Frampton's breakthrough best-selling live album, Frampton Comes Alive!, in 1976. As a result bootleg versions of the KSAN show began to appear. A limited edition CD release was remastered from the original master tapes by Suha Gur in 2004. Peter Frampton himself was  involved in the project and 5000 copies were made. These often change hands for in excess of $100 (USA). Source: KSAN radio broadcast. Sound Quality: Very good stereo mp3@192kbps. Genre: Rock. Set: Full Set. Set List: 01 - Introduction 0:21 02 - Wind Of Change 2:59

2010FM March Mega Finale (Four).

Image
The last round up of new music for March and there is plenty of diverse music, that hopefully will have something that appeals to your ears. I really do intend to fly through this addition so in no order at all here we go... Starting with the wonderful My Education who have a new album coming out on the 27th April 2010 called 'Sunrise'. Word is, it is absolutely their best album to date and really shows the band expanding their compositional talents.Well having listened to the track featured below I will personally be after more from them, the musicianship and atmospheric build are spot on for me. Listen: 'Oars' Website: Official .  Previous Release: Bad Vibrations . _________________________ Keepaway are from Brooklyn and signed to Lefse Records and have an EP coming out on the 18th May 2010 entitled 'Baby Style'. A vibrant sounding indie band that have a stand out sound in the crowded indie market place, There is enough thats unique about

B-52's - Montego Bay Jamaica 1982

Image
You may have noticed that Beehive Candy owes something to the B-52's with our picture of Kate Pierson complete with 'Beehive' hairstyle residing alongside our 'music sharing policy'. Therefore it's about time we gave them some coverage musically and this is a solid performance from the band back in 1982. The band were taking part in the Jamaica world music festival and this concert was performed at The Bob Marley Performing Arts Centre in Montego Bay on the 25th November 1982. The recording starts with the first song fading in and I am not sure if this was the first song of the performance, however it is likely as they were one of many acts on that night, and the running time seems about right. Source: Soundboard. Sound Quality: Very good stereo mp3@192kbps. Genre: New Wave, post-punk, pop, surf-pop, dance rock. Set: Full Set. Set List: 01 - Party Out of Bounds (2:30) 02 - Give Me Back My Man (5:54) 03 - Planet Claire (3:55) 04 -

Billie Holiday - Storyville Radio Tapes 1951

Image
This is Billie Holiday live at the Storyville Club, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. The shows were recorded during a residency at the club in 1951 and broadcast the same year. Despite some research I am still uncertain if the dates cited (29th October to 1st November) refer to the actual show dates or radio broadcast dates. This is sourced from the more complete original radio tapes. Some of the tracks were digitally remastered and officially released on CD (see Amazon link below). Songs are repeated as the radio broadcasts most certainly covered different sessions and nights. Source: Radio Tapes (Pre Broadcast). Sound Quality: Good mono mp3@160kbps. Genre: Jazz Vocal, Jazz, Blues. Set: Selected for Radio from residency at Storyville Club. Set List: 1. You're Driving Me Crazy 2. Lover Come Back To Me 3. Ain't Nobody's Bizz-ness If I Do 4. He's Funny That Way 5. Billie's Blues 6. Miss Brown To You 7. Detour Ahead 8. Strange Fruit 9. Ain

The Quarrymen - 1957 to 1960 (Part One).

Image
This is another selection of material from The Quarrymen dating back to 1957. Some of this material is a duplication on the first Quarryman bootleg featured on Beehive Candy, however this is from an alternative CD source and the sound quality is much cleaner. With the amount of interest generated by John Lennon's first band (joined by Paul McCartney & George Harrison along the way) it is not surprising that many versions of the same material have surfaced down the years. The obvious historical nature of the recordings continues to fascinate fans over four decades on. This is the first of three features and inevitably the sound quality is average (but quite listenable) and their will be some more duplication of material. Art work from the CD boots is included in the download files. Source: Live, studio and home (reel tapes). Sound Quality: Very Listenable mono mp3@variable bit rates. Genre: Skiffle, Rock & Roll. Set: Various home & live recordings.

Television - This Case Is Closed 1978

Image
This is Television live at The Bottom Line Club in New York back on the 29th July 1978. This concert has been circulated as 'The First Farewell' and 'This Case Is Closed' both suggesting and confirming the historical nature of this gig, as it was indeed the final live concert of Television until 1992. At the time it was of course unknown if the band would perform or record again. The source of this recording is from the linage that led to 'This Case Is Closed' which suffers a little in the early stage from level adjustments, but is compensated by perhaps one of the best live recordings of the classic song Marquee Moon ever captured. Source: Soundboard. Sound Quality: Very Good (some audio level adjustments noticeable on second track), mp3@320kbps. Genre: Punk Rock, New Wave. Set: Full Set. Set List: 1.Fire Engine 2. Glory 3. Grip of Love 4. Foxhole 5. The Dream's Dream 6. Ain't That Nothin' 7. Friction 8. Prove It 9. Marquee Moon 10. Kingdom

2010FM March Mega Catch Up (Three).

Image
A backlog of music to go through has focused my mind somewhat, and I have to say as I set about another batch today, I was all set up to be remorseless with the delete key. Trouble is one of the first bands I checked out was Codeine Velvet C lub who have absolutely delighted me, I just love their music, and if you are in 'skip through mode' please at least give these folk a listen! They have raised the bar for this edition so perhaps a few others failed to get a look in as a result however as you will notice plenty of other pretty good tunes have also surfaced. As regards Codeine Velvet Club the new musical project from The Fratellis’ Jon Lawler (AKA Jon Fratelli) and singer - songwriter Lou Hickey, they release their self-titled U.S. debut April 6th on Dangerbird Records. The album is available for digital purchase now. The collaboration began when Jon Lawler, taking a break from whirlwind touring and recording with The Fratellis, teamed up with Lou Hickey to work on a track
